I called this company about a month ago on a Saturday morning and the person who answered said the owner would contact me the following Tuesday or Wednesday to set up a time to pick up my machine. He never called. Last week on Thursday, I left a detailed phone message that I had the Big Deal coupon for my snowblower, but I would also like my lawnmower tuned up, which I would pay full cost for. I asked him to please return my call. He did not call. I really don't feel comfortable doing business with someone who does not show respect or value for his customers.

After purchasing the deal, we made an appointment for him to pick up the snowblower. I had your mother come to my home, to wait for him to get there. He said he would be there between 9 and 10am, but he did not show up. When I called, he said that his son had forgotten. He said his son would call me and make another appointment, but he did not call me. I called him 2 days later, and he said that he would call me back. He sent me an email that listed a different price for the pick-up. I called him to ask why the price was different, and he immediately started calling me names and cursing. I did not respond to this at all. After that call, he called me back, not realizing he had just spoken with me. I just played dumb with that call.

BEWARE of this company. They lost my snowblower. May 18, 2013 - I bought an Angies $55 Snownlower Tune-up and notified the company to pick the blower up at my house. July 25, 2013 - I called to say, "when are you going to pick it up?" They picked it up later that day and charged me an additional $25. September 27, 2013 - I called to ask if my Snowblower was done and when it would be delivered to me. They asked me, what kind of blower is it? Then they said they did not have it. I hopped into my car and drove 20 minutes to see their shop to help them find my blower. I confirmed it was not there. The owner, Jim Michaelson, appears to be totally clueless. I only regret I did not have the good sense to KISS MY ACE HARDWARE MTD Snowblower good-bye when it left my driveway on July 25, 2013. I am out one great snowblower. Thank you, Angie!
Description of Work: I bought an Angies Good Deal for a $55.00 Snowblower Tune-up on May 18. I called the following Monday and told them the Snowblower needed to be picked up at my house. They said they could do that. NINE Weeks later, I called again and said the snowblower needed to be picked up, they picked it up later that day for a $25 pick-up charge. NINE weeks later, I called again to see when I could pick up the blower, they could not find it (9/27/2013).

Loved that they were willing to pick up the mower from my garage. Turn around time was pretty good - they actually had it almost done before I realized it was gone. I was very pleased with how easily it started up and ran smoothly. Much better result than the last tune up with someone else. However, I noticed a gas smell the next day. The remaining gas in the tank had completely leaked out. This happened the next time I mowed too so a leaky hose or something needed to be fixed. Called and reported it and they were not quite as willing to pick it up a second time. Left it vague if they'd call again or just pick it up and they ended up doing neither. I didn't pursue it because my mower was recently stolen - it's moot now! Really liked the initial work - just the follow up regarding their own error was disappointing.

Description of Work: I bought a big deal for a lawn mower repair and tune-up. It took a little while and some effort on my part -- a couple of calls -- to get the tune-up scheduled, but then everything went fine. They were great and responded right away when I called them. They told us where they were located and also mentioned that we could either drop the mower for service or they could pick it up. I paid a little extra to have them pick it up and drop it off for me which was great. I prefer not to have the lawn mover in and out of my car. So that was a very nice and quick service. The guy who dropped it off also showed us some things we could do to keep it performing well. So they were customer oriented and very keen to make sure that we were happy with their service. Their prices were very consistent with others too.

I got the $55 Angie's list coupon for a $90 Oil change Blade sharpening, Replacement of spark plug, Check the belts/cables/recoil rope on my Toro walk-behind mower. I dropped it off & he had it ready in week & a half. It's a small shop, he was closed the first time I stopped to pick it up. But he did call me twice to remind me my mower was ready. I have another mower I will have him tune up in the near future.

It was fine. I received an email almost instantly as to whether I wanted to drop it off or have it picked up for an additional fee and I never received a response. I then tried calling a week or so later and the voicemail said the mailbox was full. Thought that was odd. Eventually, I called again and got someone and then I brought it over and everything was fine after that.

I had brought my mower to someone last fall (its only 2 years old) who could not tune it up properly - even after 2 attemps. After this tuneup - it is finally running properly again However - the experience left a lot to be desried * Business was not prepared for the volume of customers * Did not return several of my calls - nor was I properly contacted (they said they had the wrong phone number) * Did not have a proper inventory system (e.g. the tag with my name on it was not on my mower when I picked it up) I would also suggest to the young businessman they he needs to be a bit more courteous (similar to his father who was very nice) If the mower had not been fixed properly - I would not recommend this place. But I believe in second chances - and think the issues I ran into can easily be rectified. If you decided to use this service - make sure to get an approximate date when the service will be completed - verify they have labeled and inventoried your mower properly (with the correct phone number) - make sure they give you some sort of ticket. And make sure you have idetnfiying marks on your mower thanks

It went pretty well. It was a back-up mower but a really nice mower. He said it was going to take a little less time than it actually took. After three weeks, I started looking for him. They did it at their place. It's fine. It all worked fine. I was just a little bit concerned because when I called to see what was taking so long, the father told me he didn't know where the mower was. That kind of scared me. I called again. I got a little trouble getting hold of the son. He said "You didn't need it right away." So, there's a little misunderstanding there. Once they gave it back to me, everything was okay. I was impressed that there was gas in there and it was filled. That was nice. I think they did a good job on it and I appreciate the pick-up and delivery.

I purchased two coupons for a snowblower and lawn mower. I don't have a car to deliver them so I asked them to pick them up. It would be $20.00. Fine.....so after a couple of emails and promises to pick them up, I've not heard a word from them.. A couple of calls have not been returned and it's been a month. I'm really disappointed with this company and I feel as if they stole $110.00 from me. They got the money and I didn't receive a service. As if I have $110.00 laying around just to hand out. I feel totally taken advantage of and disappointed that I trusted an offer on Angie's List only to feel screwed over. Not sure how to change the review...but note...NO SERVICE WAS PROVIDED.

Before I purchased this special deal, I called the Company to see what the timeframe was as my mower was leaking gas. This was on 5/27. They said they thought they could pick it up in a week. Noone ever called. I called again last week and they said they were getting close and would call when they could get it. It is now 2 weeks later. Had I known this, I would have taken it in to another place. I have had to pay to get my grass cut for the past two weeks so the coupon saved me nothing.

My purchase was for two of this shop's "Big Deals", one each for a push lawnmower and snowblower tune-up. I first called the shop owner and made an appointment to bring my machines in on Friday, May 31, as he said he would have the lawnmower ready early the next week and I agreed that I could wait several weeks for the snowblower. Upon delivering the machines I pointed out to the shop owner, Jim Michaelson, that the transmission control cable was detached (rendering the self-propelled feature inoperative), and the rear toe guard on the lawnmower was torn and might need replacing. I offered him my "Big Deal" voucher, and he seemed pleasant enough during this meeting. On not hearing from him I called on Thursday afternoon the next week, and was told he's backed-up but he will try to get to them tomorrow, although it might be longer if he needs to order parts. I replied that I wish he would have ordered the parts last week, because my grass is getting long and I need the mower soon (we've had lots of rain recently). He replied that he'll have it ready the next morning. We agreed that I would stop in the next day (Friday, June 7) during the noon hour, which I did. Upon my arrival Mr. Michaelson was busy with another customer, and he told me it would be "a few minutes". I patiently waited 20 minutes, and during that time I examined my mower which was sitting in his parking lot. The transmission cable was still dangling loose (appears to have not been repaired). I pulled the oil dipstick and noted the oil was dirty (appears to have not been changed). I pulled the spark plug wire plug and noted the spark plug body was dusty (appears to have not been replaced). I lifted the mower up and noted the blade edge was rounded, and the safety flap had been reattached with two small sheet-metal screws. When the first customer left and Mr. Michaelson finally came over, I asked him what work had been done, and he replied "everything". I pointed out my observations and asked him if perhaps he confused my mower with another machine, and he seemed confused and said "I'm not sure". He said he remembers sharpening the blade, and he removed the blade with a wrench and showed it to me; sure, it had been sharpened, but the edge was rolled over (a sign of over-heating and too much pressure). He said that if I wait an hour he'll finish it off, to which I replied that I was already late in getting back to work and I cannot wait, but that I would be back the next morning. He said he'll make sure it's ready then. I returned late-morning the following day (Saturday, June 8) along with my wife, to pick up my lawn mower. A younger man came out of the shop, followed by Mr. Michaelson who yelled "I personally did everything on this for you!" The younger man said to him, "Dad let me handle this", then said, "Are you f***ing with my father? You can f*** with me". He proceeded to start calling me names, a dozen or so different names (most of them vulgar), and he spit in my face as he screamed. I told him that he was spitting in my face, and he replied he's ready to do more than that (threat of assault). I did nothing to provoke him, but I asked him what was his his name. He replied that I "don't need" his name (so I'll refer to him as young Michaelson here), and he screamed "All you Craig's List [sic] a**holes want your G**d*** mower now. I can't keep up with it", then he raised his fist in front of my face (this constitutes legal assault). I told him that if he touches me I'll make sure he ends up in jail, and that I'm ready to call for the police. He cooled-off a bit, and told me here's my "G*d*** mower and it's all fixed". I looked at it and said the transmission cable is still hanging loose, then his father said "OK, we forgot about it, I'm sorry. I won't charge you for this one". I replied that I had already paid for it through Angie's List and that I'll seek a refund from them. Young Michaelson continued his litany of profanity, yelling "OK, you bald-headed f***er, take your G**d*** mower and your fat-a** wife off my property now and never come back!" I told him he still had my snowblower, then he went inside and rolled it out and shoved it in my direction and yelled "get the f*** out!" At this point I pulled out my cell phone and turned on the video camera, and told him I'll record the rest of this. He retreated, and I loaded my equipment into my car and departed. My wife was standing near me, and saw and heard everything (including his insult to her). Needless to say, I am requesting a refund through Angie's List. This business owner obviously over-sold his Big Deals and over-committed to his customers, and his son (who appears to be helping him with the business) lacks both anger-management and customer-service skills. Physically and verbally assaulting customers and falsifying repairs should not be tolerated of any legitimate business in the United States in the 21st century. This former Angie's List star has crashed and burned. I personally completed the repairs on my mower and mowed the lawn the following day, am I will be pursuing legal recourse against Young Michaelson.
Description of Work: In a nutshell, a fraudulent repair and verbal and physical assault when I called him on it. Repairs later partially completed. See below for details.

See above. Terrible. Angie's List took 55 dollars for prepay DEAL and I got no service and repeated attempts to get my mower returned and repaired with no luck. Please RETURN my 55 dollars. Thank you.
Description of Work: I bought a 55 dollar deal to have lawn mower tune up and repair on Angie's list (prepay). I took my mower over there and was promised the mower within 5 days. He said he would call me. I tried to call them when they did not call and repeated got voice mail that was full or no answer. I finally got a hold of someone after the five day promised date and he checked and said it was ready. I asked him how late he would be there. He said 4pm. I drove over there leaving early from work as I needed the mower and they were locked up. I then tried to call with no luck. I drove over there the next day. Locked up and no ability to call with anyone answering. I still do not have my mower repaired and paid 55 dollars. I do not want anything from them at this point and wish for Angie's List to return my 55 dollars so I can get my mowing done sooner than later and actually get some service. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

It took a couple of attempts to find and fix the actual problem with my mower. They came out and picked the mower up from my house the same day I called, which was wonderful. They basically did a tune up and then returned it. However, the problem was still there. They came back as soon as I called and picked it up again. This time they consulted someone else and eventually did find and fix the actual problem, then returned the mower. They did not charge for the additional work, which was good since I had paid the original charge even though I had told them I had already had it tuned up that year. I brought my snowblower into their shop in December since the auger broke while clearing the first large snowfall of the season and I assumed they would be very busy, which they were. They had to order the part, which took some time, but they did eventually get it fixed and working well. I would have appreciated a status update at some point during the wait, but other than that I was satisfied with the service and work.
Description of Work: I had a lawn mower that was not running at full power. I later used them to replace the auger on my snow blower

I would advise anyone considering taking your small appliace to this place: DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHANCES with Twin Cities Loan Mower repair place: From my experience: it seems they do not have the expertise technically and definitely lack any people skills, politeness and the ability to treat customers with respect (possibly this is more true for women)-it is a one man shop with a disfunctinal owner. I have a farily new snowblower-bought last year only (toro) and only used a few times but this winter it was making a revving up noise when on and not blowing snow very well. I decided it needed a tune up or some minor tweak and rather than dealing with warranty and TOro, thought I would quickly take care of it in a neighbourhood place. I connected wtih Twin Cities Small Engine in south minnepolis. Over the period of 10 days in the shop, I was told it was the sparkplugs ($30.00), then the carborator ($150.00), then that the the carborater was replaced with a new one and there was still some problem... Every couple days the owner would extend the time the snowblower would be ready and would not do so proactively, I would have to call on the day he said previously it would be ready and each time there was a new reason it was not. Additionally he sounded annoyed and unpleasant and would tell me that "you don't need it anyway, as we do not have snow in the forecase"-as you can tell, we-the owners of equipment in repairs can make that determination ourselves...... Finally (and this was yesterday), I decided to stop by to check out the situation on the blower, as the final word was that they have replaced the spark plugs, the carborator and it was still not working right. When I stopped by, I was told by the owner's father, who appearantly helps out on as needed basis as the owner appears to be a one man business, that the blower was ready and not ready.....i.e. conflicting results in a matter of our 10 minute conversation. He did in the end confirm the blower was fixed, ready to go and should start right up and work fine. I asked what my total bill would be and the father of the owner said $30.00 (which was a lot lower than what the owner said but I decided they were doing good business since instead of 2 days this had already taken 10). We agreed I would come back in about an hour to pick up the blower and pay. When I returned with cash and on foot (this was the easiest and cheapest way for me to get the blower home), and asked for the invoice, I was given an invoice for $160.00....On it the work done was described as "rebuilding the carborator"-not replacing as I was told earlier and no mention of replaced spark plugs.... I wanted to clarify the items on the invoice and understand the work that was done when the owner started to yell at me: THIS IS THE INVOICE>>>>YOU WANTED TO SEE THE INVOICE>>>>>HERE IT IS>>>>>>>>!!!!!!!!!!" and so on......It clearly looked that his dad was also confused by the son's (an adult man...about 30 years old and the business owner)..behaviour...I tried to calm down the owner and tried to tell him that I want to understand what was fixed, what the issues with the blower might be....etc, i.e .focus on the technical but Jim appeared unable to listen, and was continuing to act personally insulting..... At this point his dad jestured to me that they will accept 30 dollars, I paid and walked out with the snow blower, as I was starting to feel unsafe. I tired to start it a block away-no luck. Got it home and tried to electrically start it- and heard the familiar puddering noise it was making in the beginning-the reason I took it to be fixed in the first place. I am not sure they did anything to the blower.......I am not sure what I paid the $30.00 for. I can tell you this: it was a surreal experience on a personal level, a completely disfunctional experience on a technical level........ the owner is clearly experiecing something that he may need help with that may or may not be not related to his business, he does not appear good at solving technical problems and is definietly not able to deal with people (at least not at this time). Save yourselves time and money and find a different place to fix your small engine appliaces. As for Jim-the owner, i sure hope he finds some peace in the new year, as he clearly needs a lot of help.
Description of Work: I bought a Toro snowblower last year and used it only a few times and this year, when we had our big snow, it was not working properly, so I looked up Twin CIties Loan Mower place, talked to the owner and took it there, as the location was really convenient. They had the snowblower for 9 days the shop was open and not only did not fix it (though worked on it and said they fixed it) but the owner was extremely rude to me and I felt threatened and unsafe, when I left the place with the blower (that was not fixed).

My initial call was for an estimate. I was told they would return my call with an estimate within a certain timeframe. When I didn't get a call back, I called again and was given an estimate -- and an apology for not returning my call because they were very busy. We then set up a time for them to pick up my mower and snowblower. Ben and another staff person arrived on time to pick up the machines. The pick up/delivery charge was reasonable and a great service. The work was completed earlier than expected, and we set up a time for delivery. I had a phone job interview at 2:00, so wanted to make sure delivery was not at that time. They assured me that delivery would be around 1:00. They arrived right at 2:00, as my interviewer was calling, so that was a little tense -- she asked if she should call back. Ben apologized and said that they had a walk-in customer, so were delayed. Aside from the little inconvenience regarding times, it was a great experience. Ben and everyone involved was very polite and professional. The company obviously cares about customer service and I would definitely use them again. The machines look great (haven't started them up yet). Ben even brought the old air filter from the mower; it was not on the original estimate, but really needed to be replaced (and he called prior to get my OK).

The process was painless - the items were picked up two days after my telephone call and the work was completed in under two weeks, the promised time period. Everything was fully explained before the work was done and a detailed invoice was provided when the items were delivered back to my home. Very professional and friendly service at a very reasonable price. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: I needed maintenance on a snow blower and a lawn mower. Company picked them up at my house and returned them to my house when the work was done. The snowblower received an oil change and the auger bolts and spacers were replaced. Several loose fittings were also tightened. The lawn mower blade was sharpened and balanced, the spark plug was changed, and oil was added. Both the snow blower and lawn mower were returned in sparkling clean condition.

Jim came out the day I called and picked up the machine on a Friday. By Monday he called with the issues and options of what we could do to get it running reliably. We knew we needed a new electric start already, the oil needed to be changed, the pull rope reinstalled (husband went a little overboard out of frustration trying to pull start it). Jim also suggested that he clean the carburetor. He returned the machine on Wednesday morning and even I could pull start it on the first try. The starter has a two year warrenty which is also a nice bonus. We'll definitely keep Jim in mind for all of our small engine repair jobs.
Description of Work: We have an Arens Snow Blower that we purchased with our new home in March of 2011. We only had one opportunity to use it before this year and it was almost impossible to pull start and the electric start wasn't reliable.

From my first call to the pick-up, from the initial evaluation to the revised diagnosis, from completing the job to promptly redelivering the machine to my driveway, Jim and Jim (a father/son team) were courteous, prompt, and straightforward. I appreciated their keeping me informed and providing me with alternative solutions once the problem had been fully diagnosed, and I respected their sensitivity to cost and delivery. I would use this service provider again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: My Sears two-stage snowblower started throwing more oil that snow during the first snow event of the season. I called the father and son team at Twin Cities to solve the significant oil leaking. They picked up the machine within hours after my call, made an initial diagnosis of damaged seals, and gave an estimate. Shortly afterward, they determined that the internal damage was greater than initially thought. They came up with an alternative solution (replacing the damaged engine with a refurbished one), and ended up charging only a few dollars more than the initial estimate to repair damaged seals. The machine was redelivered clean an in top working order.

Twin Cities Snow Blower repair was terrific. They came when they said they would, and took away the Snow Blower to be repaired. They even returned it before I was expecting it back. A big snow storm was on the way, and they wanted to be sure I had the Snow Blower in time. This was a very positive experience. I would recommend Twin Cities Snow Blower Repair, and would use them again myself.
Description of Work: Snow Blower repair. (Michaelson's is also Twin Cities Snow Blower Repair). They came and picked up a large Sears Craftsman Snow Blower from my home, replaced belts, tuned up, and returned the Snow Blower a couple of days later.
