Northern's One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning

Excellent. The people I talked to on the phone to ask about the service were great. Met initially with Chad Healy at our home. He explained every thing very well, was very personable also. If you need any HVAC work done, I would definitely call these people. I will definitely refer my friends to them. Excellent experience from start to finish. Thank you everyone.!!

They are local,they competetive in their pricing, they gave us a couple of different options on the location of A/C, to help with noise.

Brad was on time and very professional. However, the receptionist said the estimate would take 1 and a half hours but ended up taking 3 hours. He didn't leave until almost 7:00 p.m. and our kids were hungry and cranky. We also didn't like that the furnace they suggested was oversized for our house. When I called to inform them that we had chosen another heating company because we decided to get a heat pump instead of an air conditioner, Brad said that he wished that we had told him we were considering a heat pump and they would have included that in the quote. We chose to go with another company because they gave us quotes for all of our options even though we had not mentioned wanting a heat pump. I figured that was Northern's mistake for not including all options at the time of the quote.

Company was responsive. The staff was very professional. Installation went faster than expected. Cleaned up the work area afterward.

The Northern/One-Hour representative showed up on time and prepared a detailed analysis of our home s heating and cooling needs. We were considering upgrading to a 95% AFUE furnace, but due to the house s design, it would be very difficult to run the needed PVC piping out, so we settled on the 80% with a DC-blower motor. The representative was very technically inclined and was able to provide detailed answers to my questions which I liked very much. The only problem with his visit was that he was long winded and ended up staying almost 3 hours. I researched some of his claims about the system and compared them to another system from another HVAC company we had contacted for a quote, and found the One-Hour claims to be accurate to the best of my ability, whereas some of the claims of the other company were not hence, our choice to go with One-Hour. I was also able to save some money by agreeing to let them put a sign in my yard for several weeks. The installers were clean, professional, and very careful in removing the old systems and installing the new. They did a very nice and clean job connecting the new system to our existing duct work, and cleaned up afterwards. I am very pleased with the system we purchased, the installation, the lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger and AC compressor, and the one-year comfort club membership where they will come back free of charge in the spring and fall of 2009 to check and tune the system. I highly recommend Northern/One-Hour.

Where do I begin? My husband and I bought our house about two years ago. Our first adventure was finding that the furnace wasn't venting properly. We had the gas company come out to access the situation - the tech told us the furnace room had negative pressure and advised putting vents into the door. I think we had the gas company come out a second time for the same issue. Getting no satisfaction, we contacted Northern Heating. Bryan from NHAC found that the venting ductwork didn't slope upward like it should to ensure proper venting (it frightens me that neither the house inspector nor the two gas company techs caught this). He went onto the roof and dropped a tape measure (or some other measuring device) down the vent; it made a crunching noise when it hit the bottom, which is never a good sign. The elbow of the ductwork was enclosed in a box made of drywall; Bryan asked for permission to tear the box away, only to find that the bottom part of the elbow was totally rusted through. The seal around the vent cap on the roof had eroded, allowing water to enter the vent and corrode a good portion of it. Bryan contacted his office and two of his co-workers were out that afternoon to replace the ductwork. Our second adventure was on the Friday before Christmas last year. The furnace didn't seem to be acting right, so out came Jesse to perform a tuneup. He found that the heat exchanger had a crack (and there were some other things wrong as well), and he was obligated to shut it off because it was dangerous. The furnace was 16 years old and he was honest in telling us that it would cost more to fix it than it was worth, since the life of a furnace is around 15 years. Jesse provided a couple space heaters for our use as we couldn't reactive the furnace and it was quite cold. Chad from NHAC was out that evening to provide us with information about new furnaces. We got a 95% efficient model, which was fairly pricey, but we also received rebates and a tax incentive which took about $700+ off the final price. Our new furnace was installed the next day - the Saturday before Christmas. The installer (I'm sorry, I can't remember your name!) was professional, courteous, timely, and neat. Jesse was also out for a tune-up on our AC unit. He found a minor issue - didn't press us to replace the part at that time, but he was here so we had it done. Rebecca, the gal Friday of the office, is a true GEM. She's friendly, knowledgeable, and I think she truly cares about the customers. This company is good about calling with service reminders, and the techs call before they arrive. They wear paper booties over their shoes and are very careful to clean up after they're finished.

They were really good. Our furnace went out on a weekend and they sent someone out that night to look it over. Then they came out the next day and did the work. We did have a problem with the humidifier and the inspection and they came back and fixed everything for no extra charge because they guarantee their work. They are just wonderful.

They came out the same day I called and was on time as scheduled. Bryan was very knowledgeable and had all the appropriate diagnostic tools to trouble shoot and determine the problem. He scheduled Chad, a heating consultant, to meet with me the following day to help me decide if I wanted to replace my existing heat exchanger or replace the entire furnace. Chad arrived as scheduled and went over with me my options and provided costs associated with each option. I elected to go with a new 95% efficiency furnace with a life time warranty on the heat exchanger plus talked about humidifiers and a new thermostat. The new furnace was installed the very next day. All employees were every professional, polite, service oriented. The installers were very organized, professional, dressed in uniform, protected flooring and carpet where they had to walk, and cleaned up after themselves. They went over in detail all component operation with me. Outstanding workmanship - highly recommend.

Pretty well. The technician was knowledgeable and courteous. Fortunately, I had called the company previously in comparing rates, and they had sent me information on their annual maintenance contracts before the technician came out. Otherwise, it would have been somewhat confusing and would have felt a little manipulative to be presented the information at their first visit to our home. We had already decided to sign up for a maintenance contract before the tech came, but what we didn't realize is that we could not put the benefits of the plan into play on our first visit but would have to wait until a subsequent visit. It took me a while to understand it, as the tech didn't explain it very clearly when we were trying to determine what we owed. However, we are now set for two visits a year to check furnace & A/C, and we will have the benefits associated with our contract when the tech comes again this spring.

Estimator was thorough and gave me 2 options for a furnace. Installers arrived on time and did a great job. I had various questions, both as I was deciding on a contractor and while the furnace was being installed, and they happily answered them all. An enlargement to an intake register that I had discussed with the estimator did not make it onto the work order but the installers had no problem in including it at the last minute; they did not have the new register cover with them so someone had to return the next week to install that and make one other minor change. They cleaned up as they went and everything is working great!

Came out really fast, they were really good, shut off the gas. I will be getting a new furnace with them. They also brought a camera to show me the crack.

He was very professional and offered a good Angie's List discount. Will have the work done by him.

Our experience with NHAC was great from start to finish. All are very pleasant,professional and easy to work with. They were on time and cleaned up after everything was done. They have a good price on service calls and it was taken off of the bill when we purchased our new unit. Along with the tax credits and refunds we saved a bundle. There wasn't any high pressure, just honest answers about the products they sell and what would be appropriate for the size of our home. They all take pride in the high rating they hold on Angie's List and we will be having them do annual maintenance on our new equipment. They answered all of our questions during the inspection, evaluation and during installation. Great people. We are looking forward to lower energy bills and safe equipment from now on.

We called Northern Heating and A/C after having problems with the company who installed our new furnace last year (see report on Hoffman Heating and A/C). Of course it was the hottest week of the year when our A/C went out. We were given a date when the new air conditioner could be installed, and the owner even stopped by the day before installation to make sure there wouldn't be any surprises. He recommended a smaller A/C than Hoffman and said an air conditioner that is too big for a house can cause problems. Of course that meant an even better price than the original bid. They arrived as promised and did a great job. The house feels cooler than it has in years.

They seem like a very good organization and I am very pleased with the service.

Service person responded in an hour after I returned home from an overnight stay to a very cold house. I told him I was having difficulty with the thermostat and had planned to call my regular heating service the next day, but they did not have 24 hour service. He did a thorough check of the furnace, and the thermostat and did make the same diagnosis. Installation was prompt. He helped me set the programmable thermostat. Price was relatively expensive, but what one would expect for emergency service on a below zero day in February.

They were exceptional, from the moment we talked to the customer service representative to the service man. They were kind, efficient, and helpful.

The whole experience with Northern was very good. They were on time, pleasant to talk with, if I had any questions the follow up was the best I have seen from any company. Customer communication is very important to them and I appreciate that very much as I have my own business.

Technician seemed very knowledgable of the furnace. Technician was on time and did his service quickly.

Rich, the furnace tech, was right on time, very nice, and even put booties on to protect my carpet while working inside. He was very professional, knew what he was doing, and did a good job in a timely manner at a good price. With the Angie's List coupon I received 20% off repairs above and beyond the base furnace tune-up price. This resulted in a savings of $40 from the two parts he found that needed replacing. Rebecca, who took my initial phone call to set up the appointment, was also very nice to work with. They will also call you when they are a few minutes away from your house if you want them to, to let you know they are on the way and will be there soon. This was a very good experience and I will use Northern Heating and Air Conditioning next spring to have an A/C tune up done as well.

We were very happy with both Bob Olson, the sales representative, and Reg, the installer. The install appears clean and functions well. Northern appears to stand behind their installations. The price includes a one-year service to verify performance. The price was higher than some of our other estimates that we received but we weren't as confident that we would get a quality installation with the other companies.

RICH, THE TECHNICIAN, (IN ADDITION TO PERFORMING OUR ANNUAL FURNACE TUNE-UP) TOOK THE TIME TO FULLY EXPLAIN THE PARTS OF AND MAINTENANCE REQUIRED (ON BOTH A MONTHLY AND ANNUAL BASIS) FOR OUR AIR-TO-AIR EXCHANGER. OVERALL, VERY SATISFIED W/ THE JOB AND THE PRICE PAID (NOTE--THE AMOUNT ABOVE INCLUDES $12 FOR THE FIRST MONTH OF OUR ENROLLMENT IN THEIR ANNUAL MAINTENANCE PLAN; THE FURNACE TUNE-UP WAS $99).

THEY CAME OUT THE NEXT DAY DURING THE 2 HOUR TIME PERIOD THAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD. THEY TOLD US HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST FOR THEM TO COME OUT AND CHECK OUR SYSTEM UP FRONT. AFTER CHECKING THE SYSTEM HE TOLD US WHAT PARTS NEEDING REPLACING AND HOW MUCH THAT WOULD COST. HE WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE. HE WAS VERY DIRECT AND TRUTHFUL IN THE QUESTIONS HE ANSWERED. HE OFFERED SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO KEEP OUR SYSTEM RUNNING BETTER.

I HAVE NEVER MET SUCH FRIENDLY PEOPLE. ROBYN, WHO RUNS THE OFFICE, IS EXTREMELY FRIENDLY AND QUICK TO ASSESS YOU NEEDS. WE HAD OUR PILOT LIGHT GO OUT ON THE WATER HEATER ON A LATE SATURDAY NIGHT AND COULD NOT GET IT STARTED OURSELVES. I CALLED SUNDAY MORNING AND WAS RELAYED TO ROBYN'S CELL PHONE. SHE WAS OUT IN BOSTON AT THE TIME ON A SHORT VACATION, BUT WITHIN A HALF HOUR SHE HAD CONTACTED ONE OF THE SERVICE MEN AND HE WAS OUT TO A HOUSE WITHIN A HOUR ON A SUNDAY MORNING TO GET IT GOING AT NO CHARGE!
