Very prompt appointment to review job, and go over specific detail of the job and quote. Accommodated what I feel to be my very picky requests with a smile. Expert knowledge of various products used, and techniques of the job, better yet, it was explained in a manner that was easily understandable to an average person not in the trade. Job was done professionally, job site was kept clean, and schedule was on time based on schedule given during the quote. Outstanding overall job. Recommended to neighbors, and friends.

They did a great job! my biggest concern was that it was going to get messy. and they did an believable job cleaning up and preventing any problems. I have been referring them to everyone.
Description of Work: Painted the whole inside of our house and then went on to do the outside. My wife wanted some resurfacing of our cabinets and he did an unbelievable job.

The project did not start out well. We had expected the crew to show up to start the onsite work on the Monday following Easter Sunday only to find out on that Monday morning via e-mail that they weren't going to start until the next day. I called Scott and we discussed that and after that the communication went much better. After the intial problem the project went very well. The crew did a good job and kept us informed about the process. They stayed ontime and cleaned up well when they finished. They did a great job managing the odor and making sure that our counter tops and other items not getting refinished were protected well. All in all we were pleased with the job they did. We love the new cabinets and Scott and his team did very nice work. If we have another project we would use Scott and his crew again
Description of Work: Minnesota Best refinished all of our kitchen cabinets, the kitchen island and repainted the kitchen ceiling. .

First of all I will qualify myself by saying that we have always used professional painters and never had any real issues. The only reason we did not use the painter we normally use is because that company is too far from us to for such a small job. In hindsight I could have paid them extra and still come out better in price and quality. The estimate Scott from Minnesota's Best gave was very confusing and so I asked my wife to ask him when they got there to tell us how much we were going to have to write a check for at the end of the day. She called me and told me what he said which was " this many hours of labor plus paint plus clean-up plus charges to go get paint, etc " I called him and told him I wanted to know how much it was going to cost or they should not start. After listening to his convoluted answer I came to the conclusion that it can't be that bad it is only two bathrooms and lets just get it done. To give you some perspective when my wife talked to them by phone about the job she estimated it would be about 350.00 when they got there and talked to him she thought it would be closer to 500.00 and that is about what I thought after talking to Scott on the phone. When the bill came it was 730.00, they charge extra for clean up and for going to pick up the paint . The work was not bad but was not great either there were many areas of edges along the the tile where they left paint on the tile. I did not complain after the fact as I do not want them back in our house anyway.
Description of Work: They painted two bathrooms.

Response from Minnesota's Best Painting Co
This is in response to the review that we were unaware was on Angie’s List. We apologize for not getting a response on here before this time. I always try to resolve any questions on billing, etc. with the customer so this is a very rare instance that something like this would be posted about my business. I take great care in treating my customers well and I take pride in the quality services we provide at MN Best Painting Company. I have 0 complaints with the MN Better Business Bureau and I actually have a compliment on their website. We were on time and we completed the job professionally. We cleaned up well and in the 13 years that I have been in business I have never received a comment like this and if I did I would be able to resolve with respect considering I never saw him once, not even for the estimate. The project/estimate facts: I was on time at the estimate in Apple Valley, rang the door bell and knocked on the door. I then called the customers and waited 15 minutes. I received a call and he could not make it to the estimate so he asked me told me to enter the home with my cell phone and he would have me bid via phone a 3 season porch to be stained and varnished, kitchen and living room ceiling repairs and a few basement projects. I left the estimate on the table. I did feel uncomfortable about the bid in the first place. On 3 occasions I called and did proper follow-up considering on the first two he was going to send and mark the boxed of things he was going to do on the project. I never received the paperwork. I called the third time and he said his wife wanted 2 bathrooms to be painted and to deal with her. They asked what I charged for a kid’s bathroom (I figured a normal 2-coat 6x8 room with a tub/bath/sink) I normally do not give verbal estimates for this reason. He gave me the contact information and I followed up with his wife. I did present the bid when arriving and viewing the project that was much bigger than the phone conversation. The bathroom had separated rooms for the shower areas and sink area and was more time consuming therefore, extra time. She had us move the mirror and complete repairs to walls and ceilings. The stains in the shower room had to be primed before painted. She added the ceilings in the bath. The color was a hot reddish pink that required at least 3 coats rolling and brushed. The other bath was exactly what I said. In addition to the 2 bathrooms we repaired and spent 2 hours repairing the ceilings from the previous painter in the kitchen/living room areas, upon request. I always suggest I complete the estimate in person and split it up into labor + supplies + paint (some like Hirshfields/Sherwin or Benjamin Moore). She asked me what a bathroom costs. My response was that a kids bathroom cost (typically 6x8) is about $155 labor, 2 coats of paint, $12 supplies and .6 gallons of paint. A ½ bath is about $135 labor, 2 coats of paint, $10 supplies and .5 gallons of paint. I have a fee of $75 listed on every contract large or small to collect supplies/paint/gas and dispose of waste. In addition repair time is at an hourly rate. Ceiling painting and priming of walls had to be figured as well since I had to purchase 1 gallon of primer and 1 gallon of ceiling paint then figure time to apply. I continue to learn not to do phone estimates, because I need to see issues that the homeowner might think is no big deal. The staining from the shower needed to be primed and then use a moisture resistant paint and this process takes time and materials. Painting certain red colors takes 3-4 coats in most cases. Thank you, Scott Pierce Minnesota’s Best Painting Company Inc.
