The were committed to the project and helped by working the two days after Thanksgiving as I had more things to finish before renters moved in and they did everything to make it work for me. I use a lot of contractors and they are the best I use.
Description of Work: Lance and Loren came in a worked to rehab a duplex I bought that was in foreclosure. They pulled out plaster throughout the building and replaced with sheet rock, put in doors, put in French doors and built in shelving units, put in closets, matched and put in interior trim, built soffits for a repaired exterior, finished off fixing bathrooms, to get the units rentable on a very tight time frame.

Description of Work: Lance and Loren came in and replaced a bathroom floor that was damaged, pulled out toilet, sink, heavy claw foot bathtub, ect, replaced sub floor, put in new linoleum, found issues with the plumbing and fixed that, and put in a new toilet. While they were doing that, found about 4-5 other things for them to fix in the apt. which they did. Everything was done very professionally

+ -1 moreHoLance responded to my request when he received the message. He had been working out of state...but promptly completed my project for the association when he was available. Based on his prior work...we chose to wait for his availability to do the repairs. He is extremely conscientious in his work and makes sure we are satisfied.
Description of Work: Lance rebuilt and replaced 4 newspaper boxes on a stand for a member of our homeowners association. He purchased the needed materials and then built the boxes, stained them to the appropriate color and installed them on the stand. Made it look like before the damage from a city snowplow.

+ -1 moreLance did an estimate for roofing a section of our house. The bid was the lowest we received. They were very accommodating as far as the start date. They came on time on the date scheduled. They tore off the old roofing, replaced flashing and roof vents, and installed ice and water barrier along the eaves, around the skylights, and up the wall under the siding to ensure against leaks. They replaced a damaged area of decking at no extra charge. They worked carefully and did an excellent job. Our siding and plants were protected during the tear off of the old roof. The cleanup was very thorough including a magnetic sweep of the lawn to check for nails.
Description of Work: Roofing a section of our house that had two skylights, two roof vents, and an area of flashing along a wall.

Description of Work: I have used Lance in the past. He is very quick and very good. In April, I called him, and he told me he was in the middle of laying concrete and to call back and leave a voice mail message, which I did. He never responded to my voice mail message. I noted that a past complaint duplicated the same non-responsiveness from Lance. To me, Lance's failure to call back is just plain rude and shows a lack of professionalism. I will never use him again, but I should thank him because I found another handyman through Angie's list who does a great job and charges $22 less an hour than Lance does.

+ -1 moreHis roofing crew of six arrived on schedule and worked diligently installing 43 squares of shingles in two days. Lance, his brother, and the crew kept the work area neat during the installation and completed a final pickup of nails and materials once the installation was finished.
Description of Work: Removed old roof shingles and vents and installed new Certainteed Timberline Impact Resistant shingles and metal vents.

+ -1 moreWhen searching for a contractor we met with Lance to discuss our needs. The wooden screen door on our porch had rotted and the type of wooden doors available were not of adequate quality so we had included a metal screen door as a replacement in the proposal. Lance told us that he could have a Cedar screen door built that would be a more desirable and less expensive choice for the porch. We choose to have the Cedar Screen door built to replace our existing door. Lance suggested that the service door and porch door be delivered prior to installation so we could complete all painting and staining. We initially thought that only the brick mould on the screened windows would need replaced. Lance found that the rot was more extensive requiring two new window sills, exterior plywood under the sidewall shingles, and trim. He and his helper completed the additional repairs very neatly and quickly. They removed all debris and cleaned all areas that were worked in. Both of the gentlemen were very friendly and professional, would definitely hire Lance Melville again.
Description of Work: Replaced pre-hung service door in garage. Replaced wood screen door and framing on screen porch. Repaired and replaced rotted brickmould, trim and window sills on exterior screened window openings on porch. Replaced dog chewed studs in basement. Refastened loose sidewall shingles.

+ -1 moreIt's my first time hiring a handyman service, so I didn't know what to expect. I just figure that a return phone call would have been appropriate to receive in a timely manner. I was disappointed that I didn't get back any response. That doesn't seem to be good business sense. The overall experience was rated and quot;fairand quot; as I had nothing else to compare it to. Responsiveness and punctuality rated and quot;lousyand quot; because he never returned my call when I wanted to hire him after he had said he could do the work. Professionalism rated and quot;badand quot; and again that is because of how he did not regard my phone calls as important enough to return after he had said he could do the work that I had shown him and he showed an interest in being hired.
Description of Work: I called/emailed several companies that advertised under "handymen". Lance Melville did show up and walked through and listened to what I needed to have done. He was attentive to the needs I had and offered advice for various projects. He even pulled out a chair and popped in a ceiling tile that was out and also fixed part of a door handle that was sticking as we talked. After hearing what he would charge and his availability to start within a week (and getting estimates from others) I called him back and left a message that I would like to hire him and asked him to call me to let me know what day he could start. I did not hear back, so I called again after a couple of days. I left a message that I would like to hear if he could do the jobs or if he could not, as then I would hire another person. He still did not get back to me either way. I waited several days after leaving that message as I thought that he would be the best choice. In the long run I wasted over a week in waiting for his return call. I did hire someone else and that company has done a phenomenal job on all the things I needed done (and then some)!

Description of Work: Lance and Loren completed many varied projects: built and installed beautiful bookshelves; installed track lighting; low-grade electrical work; built industrial shelving; painted, ininstalled items from a former home and installed them in new home. They are currently working on two other projects: building a woodworking shop in a garage stall and building a bookshelf for DVD's. I believe they can pretty much do anything asked of them. They are fast, reasonable, very pleasant, reliable, and great people. We highly recommend them.

+ -1 moreLance answered call right away. I had water intrusion caused by ice dam. Very busy time for those doing snow/ice removal work. He came out on time as he said he would, and worked on roof even though snow and ice pellets falling. The work was done quickly, in order to prevent further problems to our home. The fare estimate he had given to me, was reduced further. Eric, another handyman, had recommended Lance. After having called about dozen people for help, and being overcharged, I was thankful for these handymen, and plan to call them for further work, especially this Spring.

He came out to inspect the problem with no trip/diagnosis charge and then returned to do the work the following Saturday morning. He was efficient, neat, and careful. + 2 moreHis only fault (and I forgive him) is that both times high on my priority list was repairing my screen door, but he was too busy doing other things to get it done properly. Hopefully, the third time I have him out will be a charm.
Description of Work: Lance is a very quick worker and also sees things that need fixing and suggests repairs. He fixed my garbage disposal; he saw an installation problem with the kitchen sink and fixed that, he painted beautifully, he reconstructed a cedar fence that had blown over due to poor construction from another handyman; he brought his huge truck and for $200 we filled it up with my garage junk; he saw what a poor job my sister and I were doing cleaning the garage and on his own took over and in no time, I had a nicely organized garage. He brought his brother Lee along, and Lee was excellant as well.

I couldn't believe they were able to finish the roof in 3 days since it was very challenging as it is a 3 story steep roof. Everything was done exactly as requested and they improvisied when they ran into issues from the original roof lines and flashings. Great Job
Description of Work: Lance's team did an amazing job of coming in and taking off three layers of shingles, repairing and putting new plywood and re shingling in a total of 3 days on a 3 story very steep roof. People couldn't believe I got such a great price and they cleaned up every day and were very responsive to all requests.

+ -1 moreI called them for the first time on a Thursday afternoon and the job was done the next day. While that is probably an exception (because they are very busy) I included that information to show how responsive they were. Lance and his coworker arrived on time with all the tools necessary. Lance gave me a price and I told him to go ahead with the project. They immediately went to work and started the dis-assembly of the stairs. Then they made a list of materials that were needed and went to the local building center to pick them up. They came back in about 20 minutes with everything needed. They cut the plywood, installed it, reassembled the stairs, and cleaned up after themselves. Beginning to end the project took just over 2 hours. Price quoted: $55/hr per person with a 2hr minimum + materials. So 2 hours at $110 = $220. Price charged: $220 + $40 for materials = $260. I have already recommened Lance Melville Construction to another person.
Description of Work: Dismantle 3 lower stairs of interior stairway, demo existing subfloor, install new subfloor, reassemble stairs.

Most places were closed, some didn't service residences, some didn't service my area. Lance returned my call within the hour, came over within the hour and took care of the snow. Since then, I have always found him to be responsive, professional, and easy to work with. I recommend this company to anyone looking for solid, reliable service.

Lance came over exactly when he said he would, removed the existing shingles, installed new paper, ice guard and the new shingles we picked out. Lance was able to finish everything in one day, hauled away all the waste leaving our home spot less.
Description of Work: I added a third stall on to my existing garage and needed the entire garage re-roofed.
