Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup

They came out in January cleaned out all the lines up to the street. We had two guys come out and clean the drain and run the camera through. The guy who came out did not secure the cap on the drain coming up from the street. Because the cap was not secure, we had water damage. We had them come back out and the technician said the work was done incorrectly back in January. He was able to fix the problem. They way overcharged us on the first visit. We will never use them again.

They were great. I had no negative comments. They were very nice and he explained different things while he was working on them.

Our sink was clogged. Roto rooter is always good about coming out quickly. We called on Sunday night but chose to wait until Monday morning to avoid extra costs. They came on time and finished quickly and efficiently. However, it was outrageously expensive. $300.00 to just unclog the sink.

I booked the appointment online through Roto-rooter's appointment scheduler. This was very convenient and easy to use. I selected a two-hour timeframe that worked for me for the same day. The dispatcher called me during the selected time-frame and told me a technician would arrive within 30mins. The technician arrived promptly and went to work. He was very professional and explained the issue with my sink and garbage disposal. He presented me two options for my disposal and explained the price differences. He was quickly able to fix both the sink and disposal. For the amount of time it took him to finish the job (about 30 mins) he charged me almost $500. This seems very steep for a quick job. I will probably look around and do more of a price comparison before booking a plumber next time.

Unplugged the floor drain then said main drain was plugged. I told him to do the work. I was not home during the repair. I returned to find black greasy foot prints all over the laundry room and the carpet on the stairs. It was obvious that the plumbers shoes were all dirty and he made no attempt to clean them off before entering the house.

We had some water backing up in our basement drain so we had Roto Rooter come out to clear the line. This was a two-day process, as the first day they cleared the line and the second they ran a camera. Clearing the line went fine but I later found out that I was being charged twice as much as another company in the area. I paid $170 just for them to move my toilet (the only access to the drain out is underneath a toilet), which in my opinion is an obscene amount of money to pay. At the time I just wanted the job done, plus I was a new homeowner and oblivious to how much things should cost or how easy it is to do things like that yourself - this is why I signed up for Angie's List a month or so later! Clearing the line itself was twice as expensive as another company that I used at a later date. The next day they ran a camera down the sewer drain-out, which showed that after 80 feet of clear cast-iron piping there was a PVC pipe that had moved so much that there was really only an inch and a half of room for things to drain out, which was causing things to clog easily. He did not give me a copy of the video, which was ridiculous in my opinion because I paid for them to run the camera I should at least be able to have a copy to show other contractors. I was told it was a $7,000 repair. I said I would wait and see how often it backs up, to which he said okay but it's just a matter of when, not if, it will back up. He also said I could call the city but the sewer drain-out is my responsibility until it hooks up to the main line (which is technically correct). I got a second quote for $2,200 - $2,800 for the repair from another company who ended up personally going to city hall and talking to the engineer. The city's contractor WAS at fault for the repair and they covered the cost of the repair plus all plumbing bills up to that point. Even if I had needed to make a repair, it would have been FAR less than their quote. I would never recommend going with Roto Rooter for ANY repair - even clearing the line is twice as expensive as other companies in my area.

Very smooth process scheduling service at 9 p.m. Nice that they offer 24/7 service. Of course they say "no emergency service charge" added, but they were $100 more than most local small businesses. The convenience when this was my first experience with a sewer back-up made it worth it this time. Also nice that I'll be having a sewer camera inspection on Saturday at a large discount ($75) compared to local plumbers since I used them initially.

Initially the company told me that someone could be out here in 2 hours - they kept in touch several times via phone to let me know that the service man was delayed and that they'd call me when he was on his way (that was above and beyond the call of customer service, in my book). They called and said he'd be here in half an hour and he arrived before that. He did a great job and was exceptionally knowledgeable. He was very careful bringing in heavy equipment and left the areas where he was working clean. He explained that he had some difficulty making his way all the way to the street and that there was an obstruction which would benefit from a camera review. After my husband and I discussed this, we decided to go ahead with the camera review as well. Brian called him, explained the situation on voice mail and gave him our number. We anticipate having the camera person come out as soon as he is able. The service was expensive but several discounts applied, including a $20 coupon they left for us years ago the last time they were here. Also, the camera service will be less expensive (by over $200) because we decided to do it now in conjunction with the cleaning of the mainline. Finally, Brian explained how we can better prevent back ups from happening and offered an environmentally safe drain cleaner which we also decided to purchase. All in all, the service was prompt, thorough, and priced fairly. I highly recommend them and will definitely use them again should the need arise.

Service person arrived, went up to look at the bathroom and then Eent out to his servie truck to get his equipment and unclogged the toilet. the service man was professional, knowledgeable and nice.

I was a Saturday and he was there within a couple of hours. Understood the problem immediately and had it unplugged within 15 minutes.

Crew was punctual. They finished time within the estimate given. They still have to return to replace the public sidewalk, so project isn't finished. We thought they were very professional and did good work. The price was high.

The toilet which is relatively new (8 yrs) was frequently continuing to run after being flushed. The old fashioned way of stopping this didn't work. The plumber showed me the problem and how I dould fix it myself when the leaking happened again, but I asked him to replace the inner workings of the toilet. He purchased the parts and returned to fix the toilet. I especially liked the fact that the worker was comfortable with my overly friendly little dog.

I really appreciated getting weekend service, though I imagine i paid a premium for the privilege. (Personally, I do not understand why this is necessary. It's the same plumbing and the same plumber had this been a Wednesday. Hopefully, he gets paid the delta.) He advised me to get a new disposal, to use it less aggressively, and to throw more waste in the trash. Nice guy, and i appreciate his advise. Certainly, I'd use RR again, unless other plumbers get smart enough to advertise weekend hours.

The dispatcher said someone would come within a few hours and they did; however, the first technician they sent said we did not have a cleanout, therefore he couldn't drill out the line. I showed him a bill from 2005 where another company had drilled out tree roots in the 4" cleanout pipe. It took until nearly 5:00 to get another tech out who was supposed to also be a plumber who could cut a cleanout into the existing stack, since we thought the guys who installed our drain tile a few years ago had cemented over the cleanout. He was NOT a plumber, just a guy who drills out the lines. Boy, was I upset. Dennis, the tech, called the dispatcher and then said, "let me just take a look." Guess what? He found the cleanout, which was there all the time under some rubble in a hole in the floor. it was non-standard, under grade, but it was there. Boy, was I happy! Dennis promptly drilled the tree roots, among other things out for us and gave us $50 off. Overall, it was a positive experience. It's too bad the first tech didn't dig around a little. I could have done my laundry a day earlier.

They were on time, they did a good job. The worker that came seemed to be knowledgeable. However, he didn't want to go through the floor drain in the basement, where the water was coming up in the basement. He wanted to go in through another place, which is right next to my washer and dryer, which would have to moved in order to gain access. He said he couldn't move them, that wasn't a part of his job. I felt pressure to have him go through that way, even though I had no way to move them and neither did he. If he went through the floor drain, he wouldn't guarentee his work. I had him go through the floor drain, and he got it unclogged.

Service man who came was, punctual, polite, knowledgeable and did an efficient job. He cleaned up after himself and gave some good advice. I was very pleased and satisfied.

The experience went very well in terms of responsiveness. I called their 24-hour service line at 5a and by 8a someone was at our house fixing the problem. They were professional and efficient. The cost is higher than if our regular plumber would charge for the service, but we did call for 24-hour service and we got it.

I had my sewer backup into the basement over the holidays when family was staying with me. I noticed it before it did any damage and scheduled Roto-rooter to come out an do a drain cleaning. Our technician did a great job - showed up at 9PM on a Sunday and dug right in working to clean out the pipe. He pulled out half of a wastebasket worth of roots from the pipe and was there for 3 hours trying every trick he knew but wasn't able to get drainage in the pipe despite his best efforts. He did a great job and felt badly that he wasn't able to solve the problem but recommended we have the line scoped the next day. He also offered to come back the following day and look at the upstairs tub drainage issue we also wanted work done on. Monday another Roto-rooter tech came out and scoped the line for $75, showing a spot where the pipe was angled and causing backup. He recommended the line be excavated and replaced at that spot for $6500. He did offer to forgive the previous costs of the pipe cleaning and scoping as well as do some additional pipe replacement in the basement for free. I was on the verge of agreeing just to get the issue resolved but decided to get a couple additional quotes. Our first tech came back that day and fixed the tub issue in 20 minutes, honoring a reduced price quoted the night before. Looking on Angie's List I called 3 other reputable places and ended up going with Minneapolis Suburban Sewer and Water - they quoted $2400 for the exact same work, got it all done in one day with a crew of 4 and were great to work with. Overall the guys I worked with from Roto-rooter did good work and tried their best but the price they quoted was almost 3 times as much as I ended up paying with someone else. Pipe cleaning (didn't resolve issue) - $380(with $50 online coupon) due to extra time required Pipe Scoping - $75 Tub Drain Cleaning - $150 (reduced rate) Total -$600+ Roto-rooter quote to fix line - $6500 Minneapolis Suburban Sewer and Water quote I went with - $2400 I saved $4100. Just goes to show it pays to shop around!!! P.S. Roto rooter quoted $280 for a standard drain cleaning (plus more for additional time if needed) Minneapolis Suburban does it for $150

The second technician came prepared with the proper pump and replacement cover and the work was completed on time and per the bid. We did not have time to get a second bid but feel we were treated fairly!

Overall spectacular service and the price was worth the fact that they are available to do the service after "normal" business hours at no extra charge. The main sewer line from my house was clogged with what turned out to be roots. The technician explained what he would do and the cost prior to starting the work. I had to have it done or deal with a wet basement. The technician completed the work, was courteous and clean and explained everything along the way. Would definitely recommend Roto-Rooter, the 24-7 service is worth the little bit extra I might have paid. The estimate provided was $325 but I found a $50 coupon on the Roto-Rooter website that was honored on the spot.

Very satisfied with the service provided. Toilet plugged up and I was able to get service the same day with just a little wait time. Very careful not to make a mess and gave me tips on what I should do to avoid this type of problem in the future.

It went as good as possible. They came out to look at a floor drain in our laundry room that was plugged up. They diagnosed the problem, explained it to me, and cleaned out the drain.

After we agreed on the price he promptly performed all the necessary work and the job was done. The only think I did not like about the whole process when I was ready to pay a guy I gave him an Angies list discount coupon but the guy said he already gave me his best price. But after a not long conversation he said he would accept the coupon and will deal with his boss on this issue. But overall experience was good.
