Nathan and his crew were great! They showed professionalism, arrived as scheduled, cleaned up as promised and worked expeditiously! I would hire them again in a minute, and recommend them without reservation. I even found their work entertaining.One of the trees they took down for me was a dead Norway maple which Nathan said weighed 6,200 pounds (see pic). Thanks so much, guys!

Easy and prompt communication from beginning to end, great professional friendly attitude from the entire crew, speedy work, precise and careful not to damage surrounding trees and property, left a very clean worksite, did not tear up the yard. Looking forward to working with them again!

We had had a huge tree removed from our yard and knew that for several reasons it was unwise to plant a new tree in the same spot. However, we were not confident that we had a new spot that wasn't too close to the house, power lines, fence, boulevard tree, etc. Using the shape and growth characteristics of the new tree we had chosen, John was able to find a spot for the new tree that will work out well. His fee for the consultation was reasonable. He was professional, patient, very personable, and a good communicator, and he seemed honest and sincere--nothing slick or salesman-y about him. We would certainly consider him for future tree work.

Wasn’t here when it was done, but the results were excellent. One large tree was removed at the direction of the City of Bloomington who contracts with them. a smaller one on the first day, then the smaller tree on our private property was removed and subsequently the stump. They will return in the Spring to remove the stump on it.

They are very good! I will recommend and use them, again.

I have used them three or four times. They are a great company. They arrive on time, do what was agreed on and sometimes more, and clean up the yard. I highly recommend them.

Could not have gone better!. Showed up early. The crew walked the property to ensure everyone knew what was to be done. Set up a protective screen (made of ladders and boards) to protect my wife's flower gardens. Took great care to protect the lawn using boards when needed. Lowered all large limbs down by rope. Exceptional cleanup. Great, friendly crew, Would definitively use them again and can't recommend them highly enough!

My family has used John multiple times in the past. We've referred him to many of our neighbors as well. His prices are fair, his crew is punctual and John knows what he is doing. Don't bother calling anyone else!

John and his crews were great to work with. They were on time, professional, did an exceptional job and cleaned up as they went. This was the third time we've had them here and will use them again as needed.

I was very happy with their work. The crew arrived on time, gave me some advice on a couple of trees I had a question on, they worked quickly and carefully around my flower gardens and did a fantastic job cleaning up.

North Star Tree was EXTRAORDINARILY wonderful. We had to take our beautiful tree down because of damage. They were on time, efficient, amazingly good with clean up, really professional to work with and very pleasant. There was no evidence of this tree when done. I would definitely recommend them to everyone. Only problem was that they did not communicate when I emailed some questions.

North Star Tree did an excellent job. They were extremely helpful and professional throughout the process. It wasn't cheap, but their bid was very reasonable. I was extremely pleased with their services.

I liked that John scheduled a time with me where I could walk around with him as he looked at the trees and created the estimate (another company we talked with sent an arborist out without us needing to be there). I didn't realize we were getting to the end of tree trimming season for oak trees but John still fit our job into his schedule the next week, even after I took a little while to get back to him. My one suggestion for improvement would be offering the option of having a crew member double check which trees are to be trimmed just before they begin work, if the homeowner is home. We had talked about a few different plans so I felt like I needed to go out and verify what we were doing before they started. The trees look great and the cleanup was very thorough!

I contacted several tree service companies via Angie's List. Of the three, John at North Star was the only one that preferred to meet with me regarding the job, as opposed to just leaving a quote in my door. While his price was a bit higher than other quotes, we agreed to meet in the middle, and I don't mind paying a bit more for good work. I didn't get good work, I got outstanding work. It was done as described in the quote, and Nate and his crew did a great job cleaning up afterward as well. I'm not easily impressed by service providers, but I was here. I will happily recommend North Star whenever possible, I won't hesitate to use them again in the future.

The consulting arborist, John, was great to deal with. He showed up on time for the consultation and gave us a written estimate before leaving. He answered our questions and offered helpful suggestions on the work to be done. I called the following day to accept the quote and schedule the work. The three man crew showed up on time and were very professional and courteous. The did an awesome job. When they were finished, they cleaned up and removed all debris. They did such a good job cleaning up that you could hardly tell that they had been here. Will definitely look to them again for our tree care.

They came out and gave us an estimate. We then played phone tag. John called back with a tentative date. I returned his call and left a message indicating that the day should work but wanted to know what time they would be here so we could be around. We never heard back from him. At this point we were looking at getting someone else to come out and do the job but came home on the day he said he would come out and they had already been here and done the job. We were frustrated by this for a couple of reasons, one being that we really wanted to be there as we have been burned in the past by contractors misunderstanding what we want done and doing something else, and two we were talking to other contractors at that point. In the end the work done was what we wanted to avoid by being around. They trimmed away more than we would have liked and we are waiting to see if the trees fill in.

The crew of 4 men and lots of equipment arrived on the date agreed, but two hours late. They, however, did an amazing job of pruning the trees, cleaning up, and disposing of the branches. I would highly recommend this service!

Great! The owner and crew were friendly yet professional, arrived on time, and the results were impressive. The clean-up on the street was amazing. When they were done there was no evidence that there had been men, large machinery & 2 trees being dismantled that day. Just 2 trees gone and 2 nice patches of fresh topsoil where they'd been. Very pleased. Top notch. Note: On August 11, 2016, we had a huge cottonwood come down and I immediately called North Star. I had a nice exchange with the John, the owner, but he was unable to come out for an estimate as quickly as I needed it (very quickly) due to jobs already booked. That inspired me to belatedly write this review of last year's job, which I had forgotten to do.

John and his crew were extremely professional! John came over to assess the project, offer suggestions, and construct a bid. They were able to work us in almost immediately with the work commencing within a week. In one day the entire project was complete. They cleaned up EVERYTHING, not a trace left behind. They moved any plants that were going to be damaged by their equipment. I can't say enough about how great they were to work with. Fast, efficient, clean, polite, professional, on-budget, with all products and services as described.

This was a very large tree that was close to our house and also hung over our neighbor's house and driveway. We were looking for a tree removal service that could remove this tree without putting any equipment on our property or our neighbor's property. They did a great job removing the tree, grinding the stump, and cleaning up the area. I would highly recommend John and his crew! They did an awesome job!

John came out first and did a good assessment. He listened to our needs and preferences. About 3 weeks later, John and his crew showed up (5 men in all) with equipment and pruned two trees in the front yard, including a white birch and maple with on major limb and then other branches. There was quite a bit of excess growth and re-shaping/cleaning up of the maple and also of the birch where it was hanging over the roof and where there were some cross-over branches and dead branches. The men also did the "fine" work with a hand saw and through climbing--careful not to break healthy branches or over-prune. The white birch is a favorite and John took good care of it and the results are excellent so far. The leafs are just budding and we believe the trees will do well and remain healthy. We hope for a good 2 years before more is needed. Thank you, John and thanks to your great team!
