Description of Work: When a frozen septic system resulted in a sewage system failure into our basement with one and a half inches of sewage in 25% of that part of our house, I contacted Service Master immediately after phoning our insurance carrier. They were there the next day at 8:00 AM with three people who immediately began cleaning, disinfecting, power washing and vacuuming up the mess. They took complete control of the cleanup operation, and I was able to finally relax amid the chaos while they did their work. It was a tremendous stress reliever to have them work so hard and professionally. | |The contaminated area included a furnace/workshop area, storage area/spare bedroom, hallway and bathroom. The workshop area had LOTS of stuff on the floor from tax records to fishing gear and hunting equipment. They threw out what could not be cleaned and washed and stored to dry everything that could. By 5:00 PM that afternoon, EVERYTHING has been moved out of the flooded area, cleaned and drying. All carpets were removed and thrown and everything disinfected. Drying fans and dehumidifiers were installed. The odor was completely gone by that afternoon. And they worked with the plumbing and septic system people to get our system back into operation. | |For the next six days, someone showed up every morning to check on the drying progress. They took several area rugs to clean back at their shop. They also had some machine checking for mold and air quality. When everything was dry and safe, they removed all the equipment. I picked up the cleaned rugs from their shop several days later. | |The whole experience turned an unexpected and stressful disaster into a manageable experience. However, these services do not come cheap. The bill to the insurance company was slightly over $3000, but seemed well worth it. Had I tried to do the job, I would have probably exhausted myself to the point of sickness and I would have been at it for days, and still could not have ended up with a clean, safe basement. The only other downside, is that you should expect your utility bill to soar. Their equipment (I think I ended up with 6 dehumidifiers and heated fans) that ran constantly for 5 to 6 days added $150 to my utility bill. They draw large amounts of power, but did the job completely. Just don't be shocked by your next bill. | |I recommend this service without hesitation for anyone in a similar situation. A very professional outfit.
