A new septic system was needed in the property I was purchasing because the current system was not in compliance. Dan was able to take on the project and complete it very promptly. we did not have to delay our closing date because Dan was able to complete the work and have it inspected by the county in time. Dan did not damage the driveway or lawn while completing the project. Also he installed the new system in a location that does not interfere with our enjoyment of the yard or appearance of the property. The septic system works great, we have not had any issues.

I had met with Dan, owner of Cass County Construction in June of 2013 to go over what was to be done to the lake lot. We agreed upon scope of work and price. He told me he would send me a write up of the work to be done so we had it in writing. I had issues with obtaining the permit from the county which resulted in getting the permit on July 8th. Dan, told me over the phone that he usually gets to projects 2 weeks after knowing the permit has been issued. Little did I know that I was beginning down a path to contractor h***. I called him on July 8th and told him I now had the permit. He never ever comitted to any date to getting it done. He always said he's busy and he'll get to it when he can. I had to call him up about once every week or two to get an update and he always had an excuse on why it didn't get started. He never did provide me with the write up of the work to be done. Eventually he stopped answering my calls when it started to appear to me that he might not get it all done by Labor day weekend, which is the last big weekend for trying to sell lake lots. I still don't know why he decided to shaft me and certainly wish he would have called me and told me at anypoint during the summer to tell me he's not going to do the work (for whatever reason) instead of me havingto miss out on a whole season in which to sell my lot, which btw was going to be the funding for another property purchase. I now need to do conventional financing for the other purchase as I'm not able to complete a 1031 land exchange for this purchase and thus will have to pay interest and will not be able to defer capital gain taxes on the eventual lake lot sale. He was very unprofessional and a complete waste of my time. I honestly don't know how someone like that stays in business.
