+ -1 moreGreat craftsmanship, horrible communication. Since I work near here, I went to them with a personal project need at my home. I was told that my project as less than their current minimum threshold but that they'd make an exception. I had told them I had that my project was somewhat time sensitive and after their initial emailed proposal, I replied with some questions/edits. I didn't hear anything back for a couple days, so I emailed back and had no reply. So then I called them and was told that I'd have a reply to my email by the next day. Near the end of the next day, I still had no reply to my email, so I walked down to their office and inquired in person; I was told that the person handling my project, the owner Katie, was not even in that day but that I'd get a reply the next day. Well, no big surprise - still no reply the next day! I guess some people just do not want business and don't have the common courtesy to communicate with their customers, especially when it is made clear that there are time constraints. I had much higher hopes for this project and using their services but I will be bringing my business elsewhere.
Description of Work: I needed some floating shelves for a kitchen remodel.

Description of Work: We have Northland Cabinets in our kitchen, bathrooms and as built in entertainment cabinets in the family room. We bought a home built by Lennar in late 2011. We decided we wanted to add cabinets to the entertainment area, and add custom built in cabinets to our office. We initially reached out in February 2014. We sent a follow up email in early March after not hearing back. Northland responded by requesting photos of the space -which were sent back the same day. No response followed over a two week period. At that point we reached out again and were informed that they've been busy and out of the office and that an estimate would be coming soon. Another two weeks went by without a response. At that point another email was sent and they informed us that they had confused us with another client and would get back to us soon. Two weeks have gone by since then and it is clear they have no intention of doing business with us. It would seem that they are more interested in working through larger orders for builders or businesses than personal home clients. Dealing with homeowners is demanding and time consuming - I can appreciate that - but it is no excuse for leading potential clients along. Our kitchen cabinets veneers have started chipping anyways - so apparently in addition to lousy customer service and a total lack of professionalism, their products are low quality as well. It's frustrating being led around for two months by a company to whom you want to give your hard earned money. I would have appreciated a polite "not interested" and a recommendation of another company to use. An email similar to this posting is also being sent to the original builder: Lennar.

+ -1 moreI have been waiting over a month for a quote. Nov 8th- I emailed our assigned sales rep general details requesting quote Nov 11th- he responds via email that he will get back to when he gets in office. Nov 18th- I call and ask if someone else could give me a quote and wanted to qualify the job request I had in case he sales rep only worked with large accounts. The admin insisted it is not too small of a job and only the sales rep assigned can give me quote since they all have different pricing. I send another email with additional details about the job in the hopes that he could send a quick email with a quote. Dec 9th - I call again and am told only sales rep can help me. Admin leaves hand written note and I email again based on her telling me to do so 5 hours later I get email saying when he gets back in office he will contact. Evidently they ARE too busy to follow up on additional jobs after home building has been completed. I am not holding my breath for follow up.
Description of Work: Like another reviewer, northland had done all the cabinets in my new community and I want to match shelving unit to bench in mudroom.

+ -1 moreThe cabinets are very nice but the service was very slow, communication slow also. The cabinets arrived without the top countertop, they evidently forgot it and had to make it and bring it out after cabinet installation. I forgot to ask about handles and they didn't ask me so I had to run out and buy handles and pay the installer to put them on.

+ 1 moreTim seemed quite personable on the phone and was familiar with the space we were looking to build our bar, as Northland has done cabinets for many of the homes in our new construction neighborhood, including my own. I contacted Northland based on good reviews and because I wanted to try to match the new cabinets with the existing ones that were installed at the time of construction. Tim asked me to forward over my design on Monday and said he should be able to get a quote back to me by Friday. I sent the information over and had to send a follow-up e-mail the following day to ensure that the files had been received. As the week went on, I heard nothing back, so I sent another e-mail on Friday asking if Tim was still going to hit his target of Friday. At 5:20pm, I recieved an e-mail back from Tim indicating that he had not had a chance to get the quote out and was going on vacation for a week. His new target for getting a simple quote back to me was now Jul 22nd (14 days later). I sent Tim a final e-mail on the 22nd asking when I could expect the quote. As of 11:30am on the 23rd, I have stil received nothing. I have since moved on to other cabinet makers. While I have learned over time that contractors seem to have a very slow response time when it comes to customer service, 14 days just to get an estimate is absolutely absurd. Any potential business I have will certainly be directed towards a company that is interested in doing work and collecting payment, rather than one I have to chase down. This was by far one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had.
Description of Work: I contacted Tim at Northland Cabinets on July 8th, 2013 regarding cabinetry for a bar design in our basement.

+ -1 moreFrom beginning to end of the process, Jim M. at Northland Cabinets was professional, prompt, helpful and responsive. He listened so well to my wishes about the kitchen, that I changed nothing in his detailed plan. Now, after living with the new kitchen for more than a year, I still can't think of one thing that I would do differently in the space plan or design and materials. We have recently asked Northland for a price to do some additional work replacing original bathroom vanity cabinets in our upper level bathrooms, and after investigating some other options, find once again that Northland comes out on top when it comes to both quality and price. And, we get to design what we want to fit our space and style exactly. I'm so glad that Northland was recommended by our flooring store. I didn't know about them, and they are a real find.
Description of Work: Designed and installed a large custom kitchen, cabinetry for a large mud room, and cabinets in a family room area.

+ -1 moreI contacted Northland through their website and Kelly responded the next day. We were able to do a lot of preliminary work by e-mail. SHe asked as lot of questions about layout, color preferences, design details that I wanted and so forth. She was able to advise whether some of my ideas would work with my space. She quickly designed a plan--and after that little bit of reality check, she readily designed something a lot more modest and within my budget. I visited the showroom a couple times and Kelly was always patient in explaining the different options and giving me time to make my choices. Once the proposal was signed things moved very quickly--2-3 weeks and the cabinets were installed. They use other companies to install the countertops, and that took a little longer. Kelly kept me informed of completion and installation dates. There was a glitch in the delivery of the cabinets--a few hours later than planned--but overall things worked out very well. After installation I notice some scratches in the (new) paint job on the bathroom walls--none of the workers could recall damaging the wall, but Northland offered to pay a reasonable sum toward the touch-up. Before contacting Northland I had tried to work with 4 other businesses--2 never responded, 1 didn't listen to my concerns, and the last one referred me to Northland. I like the quality of their work, but I really appreciate their responsiveness. I know my bathroom was very modest compared to some of their jobs, but I was still treated like a queen.
Description of Work: Designed and installed bathroom cabinets. Bathroom is in a 100-year-old house with difficult layout.

Description of Work: Maple kitchen cabinets, and walk up bar for the basement. The installer Tim was awesome, very picky on the install,a problem came up, he would solve it,he made it look fantastic!! The walk up bar in basement that to looks fantastic, we are so glad we chosen Northland.

+ -1 moreNorthland was the selected subcontractor for customer kitchen cabinets in our remodel. They were very pleasant to work with. From a business standpoint, they were within budget, timely, and professional. They were flexible in meeting our kitchen needs. From a work product standpoint, the cabinets are beautiful and customized exactly as our plan specified. They were also very accommodating when we asked for some minor and expected touch up work many months after the project was complete.

+ 0 moreI was referred to Northland by Floors of Distinction. Northland has a great showroom and a nice choice of materials. Jim Hilger was very patient and thorough and helped me make the right choice for this expensive material. I'd already been to a few other places, was pretty sure I did not want granite and was very happy with the extensive range of Silestone/Cambria colors and options. Once the decision was made both Northland and Cambria came out to measure, although I'm not sure why and it seemed redundant. Cambria uses specialized measuring tools guarantees a perfect fit. Once the tops were ordered, there was little communication from Northland although I was working to coordinate several contractors. I was surprised they did not subcontract a plumber, but was able to solve that on my own. Cambria is very protective of their product, and have their own installers, so Northland's role was minimal. In the future I would go directly to Cambria to save some expense. Cambria was great, they have excellent PR (treat you like royalty, seriously!) and my only complaints are the dishwasher was re-installed slightly forward, and they did not thoroughly clean up. I love the countertops. Love them.

+ 0 moreWe could not recommend Northland Cabinets highly enough. Sam S worked so hard to get the drawings and finished product just right. His drawings and documented proposal/estimate was right on and there were no surprises in the end.
Description of Work: For our master bath remodel, Sam S of Northland designed a custom dual vanity out of walnut. He listened to every small detail we requested and he also made practical suggestions on design when it made sense. We simply could not have been happier with the entire process and the quality of the finished product. The overall spend included a Cambria quartz countertop, which we also love. Installation went very smoothly...even when we realized that our Kohler sinks were not perfectly rectangular. Northland was patient with this snag and returned once we had a new sink to work with. Three years later, the vanity is still beautiful!

+ -1 moreThey did an excellent job from coming out more than once to be sure we had the correct estimate to meeting with us for hours in their showroom to completing the work. Our house was built in 1913 and it was very important for us to have our new cabinets and countertops blend into the style and colors of the original windows and doors in the kitchen. They worked with us extensively to do that from matching wood stains to choosing hardware. There were delays on our end due to the necessity of last minute changes to upgrade wiring and plumbing, and they were very patient. The kitchen looks fantastic and we love it!

+ -1 moreMy experience with Northland Cabinets was mixed. The computer design and my design did not mesh well. I had to have three cabinets remade because the guys at the shop made them the wrong size. The end product turned out fine. I felt like the installation of the cabinets was too expensive. They charged me $2000. The installers for Northland Cabinets broke three cabinets that needed to be remade. I would probably not use them again in the future.

+ 0 moreThe work is in progress but the whole experience so far has been great. I read about this company on Angie's list from another member who said that if you don't think you can afford custom cabinets you should contact this company. It's true! They are very reasonably priced. We were also considering going with Home Depot who was going to charge us $15,000 for their premade cabinets installed. Northland Cabinets came in cheaper with a great product and it's all custom made to fit exactly in my kitchen. The price also includes the bells and whistles like slide outs, lazy susans, etc. And Sam, the person we've been working with spent 2 hours walking us through options. He knows the product and made some great recommendations so that we could get a lot into our small kitchen. I'll be sure to submit a full report when the work is completed.

+ -1 moreIt seems like a lot of money, but their bid on the kitchen was lower than the other contractors who gave us estimates. Their work, design, building, and installation is excellent. The designer gave us good advice but left the decisions to us. He also advised us on potential problems. The finished product is excellent. All cabinets are well integrated into our old house and enhance rather than smother its character. I researched shelves before asking a bid from Northland Cabinets. The prefab shelves are not good quality, and they are much smaller than our custom cabinets. The expensive prefab shelves are nice, but they wouldn't fit our house and they were MORE expensive than custom cabinets and shelves. Definitely consider custom work when you remodel. It's worth the effort and may cost less than prefab.
Description of Work: They did a complete design and installation of kitchen cabinets and counter tops and five living room shelves (floor to ceiling), including an entertainment center.

THEY ARE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND ACCOMMODATING. THEY CAME OUT TO THE HOUSE AND DREW UP A PLAN FOR OUR CABINETS AT NO CHARGE SINCE WE USED THEM FOR THE WORK. I REALLY LIKE THE DESIGNS THEY CAME UP WITH AND WE ARE VERY PLEASED. THEY HAVE A NICE SHOW ROOM AND ARE VERY HELPFUL. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!
