Minnesota Exteriors was founded in 1947 by the father of Marty Bennis. Marty & Zenalou Bennis grew the company throughout the next several decades until the they turned the business over to their four sons – Greg, Jeff, Dan & Tom. The four brothers continue the family tradition, making Minnesota Exteriors a third-generation, family-owned company. We’ve built & maintained our quality reputation for more than 60 years. With our long-term performance record, you can be sure we will be there when you need us. Since its beginning, our company has experienced steady growth & expansion. In the early days, we used a semi-trailer for a warehouse; today, it takes a 100,000 square-foot warehouse & showroom in Osseo, MN to service all our customers. With over 100 well-trained employees, we pride ourselves on getting the job done correctly, on time, & at affordable prices. We are members of the Builders Association of the Twin Cities, National Association of the Remodeling Industry, Builders Club, & the Minnesota Multi-Housing Association. We believe that quality is the least expensive investment you can make. That’s why we provide & install only the finest exterior products available on the market today. We work with top national brands like James Hardie, Andersen, Rollex, LP SmartSide, EDCO, IKO, & WeatherShield. We’re so confident in the quality of our installation that we offer a limited lifetime warranty on workmanship, in addition to the manufacturers' warranties on materials. Additional address - PO Box 266. Additional contact name - David Kapsner.
It 3 weeks longer than they stated to just get the product to install. When we called the office a few times, we got a different person each time and different excuses each time. The installers were slow, argumentative, opinionated and somewhat rude. The results are fine but not what I would expect from an Angie's List recommendation.

We are very sorry that you were not happy with your experience with Minnesota Exteriors. You chose a custom color for your new siding and that takes longer to obtain than something that we stock regularly. There is also a paint sample approval process that adds to the timeframe of a siding project. Your customer service agent Cindy was in touch with you throughout the project and attempted to keep you informed on the status of your job. We apologize for not meeting your expectations. We hope that you are happy with the finished siding project.

Very well indeed, even after glitches the installer returned to rectify work (a minimal problem with the wiindow boxes). The receptionist, customer service rep (Lorna), the installer (Dale), and Ryan the project manager were just suburb in both their professionalism as well as their reaction to my needs.

Wanted to get an estimate for a complete exterior remodel of my home. The customer service rep on the phone was very punctual in responding to my initial request for an estimate and the salesman cam to my home in about a week to gather the info for the estimate. Didn't hear anything for 2 and 1/2 weeks, so I went up to the showroom to look at some materials and spoke with the same salesman again. He did take the time to give me a lengthy sales pitch on window and siding options. He said he was very embarrassed that he had not gotten me my estimate yet and that he promised to have it to me in a couple days. A week and a half later I have not heard anything. Very disappointed and will be going with another contractor for my job.

I think you need to detail everything thing in wring with them, I could not go by their word. I would recommend you get a hold of the project manger so you can be ready to file a complain in-case there is any discrepancy. They did not cove the A/C unit, I have pictures of them not using the non-touch latter. The unit was not covered, and my now have bent down spouts. No one seems to want to answer my phone calls regarding my complaint. They kept pawing me off on the sales guys. He said they would fix my gutters, and give me $100 back. But this was a while back, and I have not heard anything since. This as not been corrected.
Description of Work: They were suppose to put on a new roof for me. They were also suppose to cover the my landscaping, A/C Unit. I was also supposedto use the non touch latter so they would not damage my new gutters.

We own a rental property and unfortunately had a break-in in December where 2 windows and a door were destroyed and had to be replaced. MEI sent someone out right away but once we signed the contract their service went down hill immediately. It took over 2 months for the work to be completed. They said it had to do with the weather which would have been fine if they would have communicated that to us; however, they would tell us they were going to do the work and no one would show up with no phone call or anything and when we tried to contact them, either we didn't get a response or they were incredibly rude and unprofessional in how they responded. After the work was finally completed I tried contacting the company multiple times to discuss my concerns and to say I didn't feel I should have to pay the entire amount due. I played phone tag with someone for several weeks (obviously not their fault) but I finally wrote a letter and sent a check with $500 deducted which I felt was fair since we lost rental income due to their failure to complete the work in a timely matter, also due to their rudeness and un-professionalism. I received a reponse from a manager saying he would deduct $250. I called and left a message asking to discuss this further and never got a response, except for another bill with interest. I paid the amount (without interest) just to end my dealings with them. We own a home and several rental properties and I will never use this company again.

We were hired by [member name removed] to replace an entry door and windows in their rental property in Minneapolis. We were very understanding of their circumstances; nobody wants to deal with a break-in type of situation. Upon the initial visits to the property our sales representative thought that the entry door that was needed would be a standard-size door which we are able to get rather quickly. However due to the age of the home a custom-sized door was required which added to the time it took to complete their order and this was not discovered until our installers visited the property to do the final measurements. We made every effort to assist this customer and make the project run smoothly for them. The typical process for our company is to wait for all the parts of an order to arrive prior to scheduling the installation. However, we made an exception in this case and made multiple trips to the rental property. We even ordered and installed a temporary door for the front entry to secure the building until the new door arrived, at no additional cost to the homeowner. A separate trip was also made to install the windows when they arrived from the manufacturer. When the new entry door arrived and was taken to the property to install it was discovered that it had arrived damaged from the manufacturer. Rather than install a bad product we left the temporary door in place until the problem was corrected. While there was a delay during this project we feel it in no way equates to the very low rating given by these homeowners. We did agree to the $250 discount which more than makes up for the delay when you consider the additional costs that were not passed on to the homeowners for the multiple trips for the installation.

It went good until I never received an estimate.
Description of Work: On Angie's List I read many good reports of MEI so I had them come out to give an estimate on a new deck or patio. Brian came out, seem interested and knowledgeable. He took measurements, photos, and listened to my ideas. He said he would put together an estimate and e-mail it to me in a few days. That was April 17th. Today is May 1 and no estimate or phone call. If they don't want my business all they have to do is tell me.

Minnesota Exteriors would like to apologize to our customer for the delay in getting an estimate for his deck. Brian required assistance in preparing the quote and unfortunately our decking expert is experiencing a high volume of requests which is common this time of year. However, Brian should have communicated the delay to the homeowner and again we extend our apologies. Brian recenlty reached out to this homeowner and offered to set up an additional meeting which would include our decking expert to try and put together a plan and estimate for his new deck.

Minnesota Exterior did a really good job on my project (sidings, soffit and fascia). The pricing was really reasonable and rather competitive compared to any other estimate I received. The installers performed the job in a really professional manner and gave no hassle during the project. They were willing to entertain any of my requests and addressed it without any questions. The installers and the service crew went above and beyond than what was agreed upon. They cleaned up really well after the job and did a really good job. I?d recommend Minnesota Exterior to anyone else out there and would consider them as my first option for future projects.

I bid this job out for over a year and called all the big players in the area and also some smaller companies. My house is about 20 square of siding and the estimates were all over the place. The top estimate was over $50k with a lot of bids coming back in the 40s. I think some companies throw out huge numbers just to see how dumb/rich you are. So when the sales guy, Dan, came out I was already jaded by the whole process. I told him what I was looking for and that I had a number in my head what I thought it should cost. He didn't try any hard sell tactics and out of everyone I talked to he seemed the most interested in getting the job and working with me to get to a reasonable price. I will say he definitely earned his money on this job. We went back and forth for about a year and he ran through many different scenarios to keep the price on budget. It probably bordered on ridiculous how many quotes he sent me but through the whole time he remained professional and didn't seem bothered by all the hoops he was going through to get the job. He even asked me to get other bids and reviewed them with me pointing out things he thought the other guys missed, showing how their low price was too good to be true. I eventually signed up with MEI and once all the materials were ready I stayed home and watched the whole job to make sure it was all done right. The guys were quick and efficient and the finished project looks great. I've gotten a lot of compliments and even an offer to buy the house! I'm satisfied and will call them again for future projects. One area of improvement could have been the communication about the status of the project and the speed in wrapping up all the finishing touches. The job was basically done in a week but there were small things that needed to be finished that got dragged out. Some of that was my fault because I'm away quite a bit for work but I think the project management could have been a bit more thorough. I was expecting the project manager to come out and see the job or at least call me to discuss but it was me calling customer service asking about the status of the final details and when they were going to schedule the inspection! It wasn't a huge deal for me since I'm a details person and prefer to be in control anyways. Cindy in customer service did a great job following up on everything and making sure I was taken care of. All of the little frustrations at the end were pretty minor and I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again.
Description of Work: Removed old siding and deck. Replaced all windows and doors. Repair rot as needed and flash for future deck. Installed Azek trim around perimeter to meet LP grade requirements. Installed LP Smartside lap on sides and back. Install LP Smartside on the front in a board and batten design. All siding was prefinished and the windows were Lindsay Sunview series with an Anderson sliding glass door.

Overall it was a great experience except for the billing. My invoice showed I had made a down payment on my credit card. When I received a bill after the work was completed, the down payment had not been credited. When I called in, the person I needed to speak with was not in and I left a message. My call was not returned and I called back after receiving a subsequent billing for the entire amount. It was eventually reconciled, but the office personnel were not very responsive or caring about my concerns.

Got a estimate from MEI for gutter work which seemed a little high but since the gutters had to be put three stories up, I decided to have MEI do the work. They called several times for a period of a couple of weeks to keep me up to date on the status of the job. One call said that they would be dropping off the material and that the work would be completed in a couple of days. When I got home, I checked to see if the material had been dropped off. Not only was the material dropped off but the work had been completed the same day. Excellent customer service.

I had estimates from three different companies to replace the shingles and also did a lot of reviews on line prior to choosing the three companies I did look at. Bob Guzzo met with me and we had a couple of long phone conversations as well during the process and I was very pleased with his knowledge and experience in the roofing industry. The fact that Minnesota Exteriors has been in business for 65 years and carries a lifetime warranty on both the product and the labor makes Bob's job much easier. I also had a slight dip in my garage roof that I wanted removed since the shingles were being replaced, they were able to shim up the roof in the dipped area at no charge. After the job was completed I saw that a couple sheets of plywood were bad and they just replaced them with new boards and I did not need to be involved or discuss the issue with them I was not charges extra for that issue either. The men doing the work came on a very hot day in July and had the job completed that day. A couple of days later a gentleman came and did a great job replacing my gutters and installing new gutter guards. A few days later I had a question on a covering for one of my roof vents and within hours a field representative was at my home to resolve the issue. I just received the final bill and it is exactly what was quoted and agreed upon. The unfortunate situation of needing a roof replaced was made much easier with the help of Minnesota Exteriors and I would strongly recommend them if you find yourself in that situation

Their estimate for the work was far lower than those of other companies we got quotes from, $17k vs. $22k-26k, with their estimate including all of those small jobs, where some of the others did not. The sales guy was really pleasant, answered all our million questions, and didn't try any hard sell tactics. We are very happy with the end result. There were some hitches along the way, however. MEI provided the materials and a project manager, with all of the labor being subcontracted out to other companies, which wasn't something we were told up front. Stan's Exteriors did the siding work -- and Stan and his crew were actually great, easy to work with, and seeming to take pride in the results. The project manager, however, was not great to work with. We often didn't know when people would be at our house, the dumpster was prematurely removed when the siding work went past the original target end date because Stan and crew were re-assigned to another "urgent" project while ours was underway, and a hard to reach gable was left unsided initially. We also weren't thrilled that a portion of our house was left exposed during a rainstorm, with neither siding nor a wrap covering it over night. And initially, the wrong wrap material was used -- the Hardie warrenty only applies if you use their material, so by wrapping part of our house in Tyvek, they could have voided our manufacturer's warrenty. I still give MEI an overall "A" grade, though, because all of these problems were eventually fixed, at no extra cost. The wrap was replaced, the unfinished gable finished the next spring as promised, the waste disposed of cleanly even in the absence of the dumpster. They even sent an electrician to fix a minor problem with the exterior lights that had happened when they were removed and replaced. They eventually came through on all their promises, and they did not go over their quote.
Description of Work: They replaced our old siding with pre-finished Hardie fiber cement, painted the doors to match the siding, added "gutter helmets" to our gutters, and replaced a section of deck railing that had been damaged in a thunderstorm, for us.

We placed the order and down payment in early October. The job could not start until the windows arrived around Thanksgiving. The job was not completed until early January due to delay in receiving some materials, crew member vacation, etc. We were not terribly disrupted over the holidays--just had construction materials in the yard and an unfinished house. We have a large two story house so there was alot of siding and trim to cover. Crew was responsive to our requests to minimize disruption to the satellite dish so we woule not lose our TV reception. Overall I think we were fortunate as the mild winter allowed for minimal weather related delays.

Salesperson Todd was great but he no longer works there because of the poor communication and service of the company. The company forgot to schedule dumpster for the start date so the project was delayed a few days. The description of the first day sums up how the project went. The three person crew arrived to remove the existing siding. One of the crew members (nice enough guys to be sure) arrived without a wonder bar/ contoured bar for removing nails so he begins to pound away at the siding with the claw end of a claw hammer! Yes, he actually did this for 30 minutes before I went outside to offer him my tools. I was in shock that anyone who had ever done any construction would ever attempt to do something like that. His supervisor was working next to him but didn't it didn't seem to phase him as he hammered through small bits of siding and through my buildright to expose my insulation. It was like watching people from a third world country working without proper training or tools. From that moment it was beyond evident that I had made the WRONG CHOICE FOR MY $20,000 SIDING PROJECT. I called the company to let them know I had some concerns. When I had each contractor quote the job, I mentioned that part of our house had a sheathing material called THERMO PLY and that i wanted the crew on site to determine if a thicker sheathing with increased insulation R factor would be recommended. The siding crew was delayed as they waited for someone from the office to come by my house to look at it. I had done all of my research on-line and knew exactly what I needed long before the "once-retired but they desperately need me back to help out" supervisor came to my house. He said he had never seen that sheathing product so it must be junk and he wasn't sure what he would do. In fact, he said that MY WARRANTY MAY BE VOID IF I DIDN'T PUT SOMETHING OVER THE SHEATHING. Really? Look it up at on the internet. It is a commonly used green/recycled sheathing product readily available. In order to keep the project going I opted to spend another $700 to have them use some fanfold insulation over the thermo ply so the vinyl siding would be perfectly flat. The crew ran out of material so the project was delayed again. Since i've done quite a bit of remodeling myself, I had my lighting fixtures ready to be installed right behind the crew. The crew had broken all of my electrical gang boxes when they removed the siding so when I went to install all of my new lighting fixtures, they crew has pushed the gang boxes back into the wall cavity without attaching them to a stud!!!! UNREAL. I had to remove the decorative plate and re install new gang boxes. You guessed it, the crew never said a word or gave me the heads up. They finally finished The crew did have to come pack and re-do the chimney stack because it wasn't installed properly. The calking is sloppy and the corners are acceptable but definitely not a top notch job. To recap, I was never once called by anyone from the company to inquire "How is it going?" Are you happy with the progress... any concerns? Nothing.. but when it came time to collect the balance because "almost" all of the work has been completed (per the contract terms) they were right on it! I shared my story with office when they called to get my credit card information and it seemed like it was a normal every day thing that they knew they receive a letter grade of D for their service. I told them that I would give them a D. No one offered to hear why. No one offered a refund to make it right. The only thing was that "most" of the work was completed so it was time to pay. It was obvious that they were used to the negative feedback but chalked it up to "uninformed home owners". If you took the time to read this, I have now saved your hours and hours of pain and suffering by steering you away from using Minnesota Exteriors. Steve F (my project manager missing in action) should have given me a huge discount for putting up with such a botched job. Here's the real kicker... I hired them and they were the highest quote of four quotes. Yeah - shop carefully my friend. Sincerely, Chennault way home owner
Description of Work: Removal of old masonite siding, aluminum gutters and replace with new vinyl siding, aluminum soffit and new aluminum gutters. Minnesota Exteriors response doesn't even touch on the items in the review! Allow me to set the record straight. 1.The salesperson Todd never said anything bad about MN Exteriors whatsoever. It was the replacement customer service agent (a retired siding guy of 30+ years who said that the company had major issues. 2. Had I not stepped in and asked for the fanfold insulation, my warrant would have been voided according the the "fill-in" job supervisor. It is not the home owners responsibility to know how the job should be done. They are the experts. My complaint was that there was NO SUPERVISION, NO CHECK UP, NOTHING. 3. The electrical gang boxes were installed properly. I put them there myself when I built the addition! Minnesota Exteriors should have been responsible for hiring an electrician to come out and reinstall all of my boxes. I told the job supervisor that they were all broken and he said that there was no way the company would fix them. That, is why filling out a silly paper review form is a waste of time! I addressed the issues as they arose. Don't believe their response: When you read their contract, you have no choice whatsoever NOT TO PAY THEM. Their contract specifically states that if most of the work is completed that they must be paid in full. Otherwise, they will put a contractors lien on your house. 4. Beyond all of the lousy communication, the crew without tools and the damage to all of my electrical they workmanship was bad. If you look 75% of my caulk it is not smooth whatsover. They even missed entire sections that I have now caulked myself. A note to MN Exteriors....., when you screw up, make it right. What you did is a slap in the face.A $100 gift card as an adjustment for everything they did and a pre fabricated online reply.

Response from Minnesota Exteriors Inc
There are a number of concerns raised in Member’s complaint that we would like the opportunity to address. Just to clarify, the reason for Todd’s departure from our company was purely based on his performance and in no way related to the atmosphere at Minnesota Exteriors. It is unfortunate that it appears that Todd has felt it necessary to make unkind remarks about his former employer of 10+ years. Member’s contract clearly states that any wall rot/repair was not included in the original bid and would be addressed in a change order should the need arise. There is no way for any siding contractor to know the condition of the walls behind existing siding until the removal has taken place. When circumstances require such a change order it is necessary for a representative from the main office to go to the job site and determine what needs to be done. The siding crew did exactly as they should have-they discovered an area of concern and alerted the project manager. It would have been irresponsible for us not to have corrected the problem in order to install the new vinyl siding correctly. To address the broken gang boxes-it is possible that the boxes were originally installed to the existing masonite siding and not to studs. We agree that our crew should have done a better job reinstalling these boxes and apologize for any inconvenience Member experienced while replacing his light fixtures. All of our customers are assigned a Customer Service Representative prior to the start of any project. Our records indicate that numerous calls were placed to Member during his project. In fact the notes from the final phone call state “homeowner said everything on the house looks good and to go ahead and process final payment”. It also appears that Member chose not to fill out our customer survey at the end of his project which would have given us the opportunity to address his concerns after completing his project. We were under the impression that Member was satisfied with the work completed by Minnesota Exteriors. We take all customer comments very seriously and will use what we’ve learned on this project to ensure top-notch service for future customers. We will be sending Member a $100 gift card for a local restaurant in order to make up for his poor experience with our company.

I had called them because I had used them for windows project in the past. They sent a salesman out who did not bring anything with him. I thought he would have the different materials for the door. He offered to come back and bring a catalogue that I could look at. He did come back to give the catalogue, but he said that I should drive to Burnesville to look at the displays for the doors. There was not very much available, but I was able to talk with someone and find a door to my liking. I then went back to Minnesota Exteriors who would have to send someone else out to install the door. The door ended up being beautiful, but it was difficult because I never worked with the same person. I felt there were several glitches along the way. There was a service representative that was a contact for me who tried to help me each time, but it was quite the process and it felt very disconnected. There was also a security storm door which they had taken off and they did not put it back on. I caught them before they were leaving and they gave me the reasons for why they could not reinstall the storm door. I called my service representative about the issue. She apologize profusely and had one of the guys from the company call me back. The installers came back out and were able to put the security door back on in the end. I am satisfied overall, with the finish project.
Description of Work: They replaced my front door because it had rotted.

They did a really good job for the most part. They were punctual, and cleaned up very well. They could have been a little more prepared for the unexpected with working on an older home.
Description of Work: They put a new roof on my home.

We had a smooth experience replacing these windows with MEI. The windows were installed by Tim Kohn of Kohn Service and Repair and Kevin Bennis. These young men certainly know what they are doing and were polite and hardworking. We were amazed at how well they installed the windows and would recomment them as well as Minnesota Exteriors Inc. Hats off for a job well done from start to finish!
Description of Work: Minnesota Exteriors sent their salesman out for a quote soon after we notified them that we needed an estimate on two patio doors, and a picture window in our master bedroom. Bruce was prompt and wrote us a quote that was lower then the other one we had received. Bruce also assured us of the quality of Lindsay windows and of their wonderful warranty.
