It was an awesome experience. We had Mathis Construction remove our old deck and construct a new one from scratch. I am so glad we contracted with Verne and his crew. They started the project when he said they would. Only a couple of glitches with the decking material delivered by Scherer Lumber but when that was resolved the project was finished. The site was cleaned up so you could never tell the crew had been there. Verne even sent someone back to add a piece of decking to the top of the Cedar rail he had his crew construct. And they did that part this AM before we were even aware they were on our property. Neither my husband or I heard anything. The crew was professional, answered our questions when asked and went about their work. I would Highly Recommend Mathis Construction for your deck project.

Vern and his crew are amazing. They were timely, professional, hard working, and always willing and able to accommodate our last minute changes and requests. Vern was amazingly responsive via phone, email, and text. The bid was fair and very clear on the details of the project. The project was completed in a timely fashion and the entire job site was very clean. We are trying to come up with another project so that we can hire them again!

The company responded promptly to our request for an estimate and provided a competitive bid. They addressed our concerns adequately and were easy to work with. The workmen were professional, cleaned up after themselves and completed the job on time. They even did a few "extra" fixes while they were here. We are very satisfied with our "new" deck and will definitely consider Mathis Construction for future projects.

We cannot say enough good things about Vern and his crew for the 20' x 13' deck they built on our home. Their design was excellent, and the deck got built ahead of schedule with minimal disruptions even amid the pandemic. Vern and his crew had a meticulous eye for detail, and the final product exceeded all our expectations: they replaced siding along an old ledger board, adapted to issues like gutter placement and old concrete footings, and communication was prompt throughout the project. We have already given Vern's information to several friends and would not hesitate to recommend him for a future project!

They did an excellent job. Vern is very detail-oriented and added some nice features I didn't think of. every night the area was cleaned up and every concern I had was answered and resolved right away. All the neighbors comment on the beautiful deck.

Modernized my deck with composite decking and cable railing as well as replacing front steps of house with composite. Amazing transformation Vern is trustworthy and followed through on everything we discussed in our initial meeting. The project was fairly priced, his crew was professional and conscientious. Mathis Construction did a great job of removing my old deck and replacing it with a beautiful new deck. The handicapped ramp I requested blended in like a work of art. They were a pleasure to work with and I am thrilled with the result.

Vern is one of the best contractors I have ever worked with. We built an IPE deck and it turned out better than we had even hoped. We interviewed several contractors before hiring Vern, and he was by far the the most attentive to to our vision and plans, and was open to materials that are tougher and more time consuming to work with. He was a great communicator at ever step of the build, and was open to modifications as we moved through the project. I can't say enough good things about him or his crew. Top notch carpenter that I would hire again without hesitation.

We hired Vern to put a deck on our home after speaking with many other contractors. Vern gave us the most confidence the deck would be professionally built, his price was competitive and there were aspects of the project that were above the Building Code minimum standards. For example, many of the contractors we spoke with intended to support the deck with wooden posts resting inside preformed, concrete shoes. Vern poured concrete footings a week before he started working on the deck. You can also see where he used bolts to hold the support beams in place whereas other contractors use nails. Vern was knowledgeable about deck design and materials and was patient as we sorted through the deck we wanted. We ended up with Timber Tech deck with aluminum railing and glass panels for thousands less than some of the other bids. If you want a professional to build your deck, we recommend you give Vern a call.

It was ok. Expected bumps here and there but all worked out. I'm a year out and I've noticed just a few minor things that I can live with. The major issue was the brand new roof leaked right away. The roofing crew was terrible, I'm guessing he hired a crew off the street. Vern came out at least 2 times, finally had to do the repair himself by changing up the roof line. This was a design flaw on his part, but he fixed it all to my satisfaction. One instance where his professional grade went from an A to a C , he could have handled the situation differently.

Worked with Vern and he did a great job. He gave me a bid that had everything I wanted.. He was on site and managed all phases of the removal of the old deck and installation of the new deck. The new deck was installed and looks great. We are very happy with his work. We did have one issue, when they removed the old deck, they damaged some downspouts. Vern contacted a gutter company to replace the damaged downspouts at his expense.

We mostly knew what we wanted in our basement project so hiring a design + construction firm seemed like more than we needed. We were very happy to find Mathis Construction on Angie's list. In our very first walkthrough, Vern made a small suggestion to change the orientation of the bathroom. This small change took about 6 inches out of our storage/utility room but made a HUGE difference in the size and flow of the finished living space. We were able to save a significant amount of money by hiring Mathis Construction over the other design + construction companies that we received estimates from. Vern is always easy to get a hold of. Once the project started, it continued without any delays until completion. All of the subcontractors were punctual and fantastic to work with. We are in love with our new basement. We spend a TON of time down there playing with the kids and watching TV once they go to bed. It's also been really nice to have guests stay downstairs and keep our own privacy upstairs. I would absolutely recommend Mathis Construction to anyone looking to do a remodeling project. Give him a call, you will not be disappointed!
