Rum River Tree Farm & Nursery

They did well. The quality was good. I am going to use them again this spring. The person interpreted what I wanted and put in what I had asked for. It is the guy I used and he worked for another company before, so I am not commenting as much on the company. It took them a reasonable amount of time.

Very professional. Came when they said they would were polite and professional. Cleaned up all areas when finished. The trees are beautiful!

We had looked at trees at some local garden centers and then decided to search for tree farms online. Our search came up with Rum River Tree Farm. Their site advertised Friday Happy Hour specials (it was cute--they had a cooler full of bottles of water and soda and a tray of cookies)--so we decided to take a Friday afternoon drive to Oak Grove, MN. Their tree selection is nice. We received great help and information from Kris Ballou. The discounts we received on the two trees were over $100, which covered a chunk of the cost of delivery and planting charges. We were able to get bigger trees for the same price the local garden centers were charging for smaller trees. Kris arranged through Gopher State One Call to have our utility lines marked (call before you dig law), and set up a delivery date and time (2-3 hr. time window). We were concerned about our tree delivery as our house sits on a hill and the only access is up the front steps (no alley). It was no problem. A crew of three came in the appointed timeframe and, on a sweltering day, brought both trees up the front steps with the use of a dolly and a lot of muscle. In no time they had holes dug, added the appropriate tree saver (mychorrizae) and manure, installed the trees and topped them with mulch. In May 2010 I called and spoke with Tom telling him that our birch tree was crooked. At the time it was planted it looked a bit crooked but the thought was that it would settle and straighten out. It didn't and was really bugging us. I asked if a crew could stop by the next time they were in the neighborhood to straighten it out. Tom said that was no problem. We scheduled a day and Tom called the night before to give me a more accurate time frame when the crew would be coming. Luckily we were home as the crew came a couple hours early. In about ten minutes they had straightened the tree.

This company was very responsive and very reliable. They did what the said they would do and were punctual in showing up at the scheduled time. The first tree had a problem but the company was responsive and prompt in finding a replacement without any hassles.

My 40 ft wide city lot really needed a tree in the front yard. After researching trees, I decided I wanted a birch. I quickly tired of trekking from one garden center to another, and started calling tree farms. Chris of Rum River Tree farm was so knowledgable and helpful. She personally selected a good tree and we did the entire transaction over the phone. The installation crew arrived as scheduled and did a great job installing the tree. I would definitely use their services again.

They were superb. We are bringing them back for some other work and I think that is the most sincere endorsement. They did a very good job.

We realized this spring that we had used the wrong kind of salt on our front concrete sidewalk during the winter and had badly damaged the sidewalk. We had had Rum River do a stone patio for us last year so we requested that they quote us to replace the sidewalk. Jim came and made a drawing of what the path would look like and gave us the estimate. We hired them on spot based on our satisfaction with what they did last year and the price for this project. The workers arrived as agreed and after carefully protecting the existing plantings, tore up the old sidewalk and hauled the material away. They then prepared the base for the stone, then very artfully selected (and shaped, when necessary) the pieces of stone for the path and then installed them, adding in crushed granite filler around and under the stones to seat them (no concrete is involved). They then installed some additional plantings in the area, patiently waiting while I put my favorite soil amendment in the holes. They cleaned up all their mess. Before they left we asked if they could take a few extra minutes to remove a bit of broken asphalt at the edge of our driveway with their big concrete saw, which they cheerfully did for no charge. When we walked on the new path, (which is SO cute!!) some of the stones were a bit wobbly which the workers explained usually goes away after a good rain during which the stones settle. Which was the case last year, except that I didn't remember the stones being quite so wobbly on last year's project. Because they were out of time for that day, the workers agreed to come back as soon as possible to make some more adjustments. Which they did and which improved the stability of the stones. I don't think there are any safety issues and I am willing to wait for some additional rain before I make a final judgment. I am confident that Rum River will continue to work with us until we are completely satisfied.

Initially when we called Rum River and asked for the price of type and size of tree we were looking for, the price seemed unusually high compared to other places where we have shopped. However, on arriving at Rum River to see the tree it became apparent that the trunk diameter was almost twice the size of what was being offered at the other nurseries for that size. The tree was well worth the money that we paid. They showed up on time to plant the tree and did a nice job.

Amazing job. Dan showed up when he said he would, had great suggestions for improving the design, got the whole job done in three days. I have suggested him to coworkers who inquire about landscape design. We have received tons of compliments on the landscaping.

ONE OF THE TREES DIED IMMEDIATELY AND THEY REPLACED IT. AN OAK TREE FROM THEM DIDN'T THRIVE, BUT CONTINUED TO GROW AND IT LOOKED VERY SICK. THEY'VE TOLD ME TWICE THAT THEY WOULD COME OUT AND TAKE A LOOK AT IT AND THEY NEVER HAVE. THEY HAVEN'T FOLLOWED THROUGH.

WE DISCOVERED THAT ONE OF THE TREES HAD BEEN PLANTED TOO DEEP AND ONE OF THE TREES APPEARED TO BE DYING. THEY ALSO DID NOT LOOSEN OR CUT THE BURLAP BAG AROUND THE TREE ROOTS. WE WENT BACK TO THEM AND DID NOT HAVE OUR RECEIPT. THEY REFUSED TO LOOK IN THEIR RECORDS, SO WE ENDED UP LIABLE FOR THE TREE. NEVER AGAIN!

DAN WAS WONDERFUL TO WORK WITH AND HAD GREAT DESIGN IDEAS. HE RECOMMENDED A DESIGN THAT WAS VERY AESTHETICALLY ATTRACTIVE. THE DESIGN, SERVICE AND OVERALL EXPERIENCE WITH RUM RIVER EXCEEDED OUR EXPECTATIONS. WE WILL WORK WITH DAN NEXT YEAR TO COMPLETE THE BACK YARD.

CONSIDERING THIS WAS THEIR BUSY TIME OF YEAR I WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE SERVICE I RECEIVED. I FELT THAT THEY WERE VERY RESPONSIVE TO MY NEEDS, OFFERED SUGGESTIONS AND WERE REASONABLY PRICED. I WOULD DEFINITELY USE RUM RIVER AGAIN.
