On 1/7/2016 Buff and Coat or Timberland hardwood flooring, same company, same address, run by Dave V., gave me an estimate of $1478 to sand & finish our floors He asked for $750 down on 1/12/16. He asked to have the check made out to him personally not the business. The balance to be paid on completion to my satisfaction. He came back to start job on 2/8/16. We heard Dave make comments to his helper about how to run the sanding machine, it was odd to hear him say that but assumed he was competent at running the sander. Unfortunately for us the job looks like it was his first time at sanding. After the sanding Dave put down the sealer and left. I was unable to go in and look at job until later that night when the sealer dried. At that time there were streaks and blotchy areas that looked terrible. On 2/10/16 when Dave came back, I showed him the streaks and blotchy areas left by the sealer which was unacceptable. Dave said that was normal as the sealer needs more time and sun for the streaks to go away. He also said he had to buff the floor before putting the poly on. I believed him and he continued his work and put on the first coat of polyurethane. I had to leave for an appointment before he put the second coat on. I gave him a check for the balance due before I left. Again the check was made out to him personally. When I returned I looked at the floor and was so disappointed that I called Dave to have him come back and look at the floor that night. He answered back that he couldn?t come that night and was busy the next day. And he again said to give it some time, all is fixable. The streaks were still there from the sealer and the poly was unevenly applied with dirt and sanding dust mixed in. It is truly so rough it feels like sand paper and the floor sanding left sanding marks and divots all over the floor. At this point I stopped payment on the check because I was not satisfied with the job he did, in fact the floors were in better shape before he started. Dave came back two days later to look at the floor. I pointed out all of the defects and told him I could not accept the poor job he did. It was unacceptable. After much discussion he finally agreed the floor had many imperfections and he said he could do the floor over. I told him that I stopped payment on the check for the balance due and said I would not pay for a job that I was not satisfied with. Fortunately, I stopped the check before it cleared our account. After looking up Dave's business on BBB and Angies list I found that he had numerous complaints about the poor quality of his work. Many of these complaints that I read had the same poor workmanship issues that I had experienced. I told him that I wanted a full refund of all money paid to him and that I would not trust him to do our floor over. I had three other flooring refinishing companies give me an estimate to repair the damage Dave has done to my floors. When the other companies came to look at the floor they were appalled at the poor quality and all said it needed to be completely redone. I do not feel I should have to pay twice to get the floor finished to our satisfaction. I would like my money refunded. I would also like this man to be held accountable for his terrible workmanship. Please stop him from putting anyone else through this nightmare.

Please Reference the complaint against Dave Varley of Buff and Coat. It appears he uses Buff and Coat for Invoices but actually owns Timberland Hardwood Flooring which he did not disclose to me.
