+ -1 moreOur 62" TV went out and we took it to Alex for repair. It took them 2 weeks to perform the diagnostic ($110), 2 weeks to order and receive the part ($575) and another 2 weeks to tell us that the part did not work. At that point, they were going to order another part ($800) and try that which, of course, would take another 4 weeks to figure out if it worked. We decided with that much money into repairs it was better to purchase a new TV. The only good thing was that we only were out $110 for the diagnostic fee. The communication with the company was horrible. The service techs were condescending and rude. We would call them for a status update and it would take them days for them to call back. It is hard to believe that they are that busy that a diagnostic would take 2 weeks to complete. They offered to dispose of our TV for us, but now I am wondering if they didn't want to keep it to resell. ($110.00)

+ -1 moreVery frustrating, felt helpless, should have just rented a U-Haul and picked it up myself.
Description of Work: Colors on TV looked bad, especially blues and greens, making football almost unwatchable. Under Best Buy warranty, they had me contact Alex's. Over the phone I described the problem and was assured this was common with my model, but that it would have to be brought to the store and parts ordered which would probably take a week. They picked it up on a Friday, this is my only TV, when I called on Tuesday they had not even looked at it yet. They called Wednesday and said they couldn't find anything wrong. So, I called Thursday and figured if there wasn't anything wrong, perhaps it was a poor cable or connection, I would ask for it to be returned. There delivery guy only services St Paul on Friday and he was on vacation the next day. I tried to arrange delivery during the next week, but couldn't get anything before Friday. I told them several times I had to work at 3pm and was assured I was scheduled between noon and 2pm. I called at 1 and was told the delivery guys were just returning to their store and should be able to make it by 2:30. I finally got a phone call at 2:15 that they were in traffic and wouldn't make it in time. Not wanting another week or longer without my TV, I just left the door unlocked and asked them to drop it off, which they did. The TV looks fine, but it was a long 2 weeks.

+ -1 moreWe were at first pleased. During our second interaction with this company, however, we were very frustrated. We appreciated that they offered to repair the TV a second time under their warranty, but disappointed by two things: 1. They did not update us on the status of our TV for about 2 months. We would call and they'd tell us they'd have to get back to us and would not call us back. 2. They told us our TV was repaired and ready to go, but as it turns out, the TV was unrepairable and we had to dispose of it. We were very disappointed, having been led to believe it was fixed when they called to tell us to pick it up. I can only assume they misled us out of an error or out of a fear we'd just leave the TV there for them to dispose of, which is NOT what we would have done. I don't know if I would use this service again after this experience. I definitely know I'll NEVER buy another Toshiba television!
Description of Work: In November 2007, our TV stopped working (it turned off in the middle of viewing). We brought it to Alex Audio & Video who attempted to repair it. Less than six months later, the TV stopped working again (in the same way it had done before). Alex Audio & Video has a warranty on their work so they took back the TV to repair it again at no cost. We dropped off our TV in January. In April, we were notified that the TV was fixed, however, when we went to pick it up, they told us it was unrepairable and to take it and dispose of it.

+ -1 moreOverall I was pleased though initially I had to make the phone calls back to get an update versus having someone keep me posted. They said usually 3-5 business days for the repair. I was on the later end in just getting the estimate.
Description of Work: They checked out TV and found it needed new a picture tube. The cost of the repair would have been more than buying the exact same model new so I chose not to get it fixed.

+ -1 morePretty good. They charged about $12 for "shop supplies". This, just as in auto repair, is a rip off. A fair price for some solder and rags is about a dollar max. I think the labor costs were pretty high but in line with what other shops charge. (Other shops charge too much also.) They were very friendly and helpful and did the repair in about two days. I brought it in and picked it up.

+ -1 moreGood overall. I had my son drop it off while I was on a mini vacation. The person receiving it was rude to my son because he didn't have my work phone number. When I came back I supplied the needed information and made a deposit. The TV was repaired well. I thought the price was a bit high, but cheaper than purchasing a new one. Also, a nice young man whom I had made the final payment to carried the TV out to my car. He was not rude.
Description of Work: TV had no picture and Alex's repaired the problem 3 days after it was dropped off.

+ -1 moreWhen I called Alex Audio & Video and inquired about my problem. I was told there would be a $50 fee to exam my TV. If it is repaired, the fee would be applied to the repair. The person on the phone made it sound as if it was not a big problem. It was repaired the next day. It works great.
Description of Work: I have a 27 inch Zenith TV with a picture tube. After a storm, the picture was a very thin horizontal line. The sound was okay. Obviously, my surge protector wasn't any good. With TV's changing in the near future, I wasn't excited about purchasing a new one.
