On the initial visit, very detailed plans, that would meet OUR needs, were drawn and approved by us before starting the project. The demolition was extremely efficient. They cleaned up daily, used protective floor covers on the living room carpet, and hung plastic to protect the bedrooms from the dust. The rebuild went very, very well. Custom-made vanity and cupboards were used to give us more room. Tiling on the shower wall, the shower floor, the shower seat and bathroom floor, were done to an extremely high standard. Suggestions and changes were made along the way to better meet OUR needs. All was done in a timely fashion. Again, GREAT JOB Twin City Home Remodeling!!!

They were punctual, they said they would be there at 7:30 AM and they were sitting in my driveway at 7:15 AM waiting patiently. They conducted all of the work professionally and and cleaned up behind them. We have an active house with 4 kids, and their workers were polite and had great manners and behavior. I didn't have to worry about my kids hearing "construction Language." They cleaned up their messes, and did a great job from start to finish. Now with the cold weather coming in the windows that they had recomended have completely changed the climate of the rooms. I wish I would have done this 8 years ago. There are no more drafts, the rooms are now warm and comfortable. We are now looking at doing the windows in the rest of the house. We will hire Twin Cities Home Remodeling to do the rest of Windows.
Description of Work: I had four full replacement windows replaced in my home.
This is my fourteenth review I've written on Angie?s List and all but one were rated ?A?. In my almost 40 years of home ownership, I've remodeled two kitchens and a bathroom without a problem. I would not consider myself a fussy or problematic customer. However this time when we remodeled another bathroom using Twin City Home Remodeling. It was a horrible experience. 1) As they demolished the old cast iron tub and subflooring, debris rained down into the basement. They swept up the upstairs but left it to us to sweep up the chunks of iron and splintered flooring on 3 separate nights just so we could use the basement bathroom. 2) On the day they roughed in the plumbing they shut off the pilot/gas to our water heater. Inconvenient. 3) They punched a hole in our living room wall which to their credit, they patched. However when they painted over the patch, they used semi-gloss paint. My living room is painted in a flat finish. Now it has a lovely shiny spot. 4) My old millwork for the window which I planned on reusing was ?tossed? in the garage and had a corner broken off. Twin City Home Remodeling gave me new replacement millwork however it doesn't match any of our other woodwork. 5) The design was to have the recessed medicine cabinet centered over the vanity with a glass tile back splash between the two. During the bid process I explained to the salesman it would involve shifting the old medicine cabinet hole to the right but I was worried that the drain vent might be in the way. He assured me that they?d move the drain vent if necessary to line thing up everything as I wanted it. That was during the sales pitch. During actual construction, the supervisor didn?t even want to move the medicine cabinet over an inch because a stud was in the way. They finally lined them up as I originally specified. 6) While installing a glass shelf on Thursday, they dropped it breaking not only the shelf but the toilet (bowl) they had just installed on Monday. By strange circumstance, I happened to have a second toilet available. They installed the same day but missed caulking the toilet around at the floor level. They agreed to pay for the shelf. I paid for the extra toilet which they installed for free but failed to caulk at the floor level. I told them about this but still had no resolution after a week. Here's a video to show you what I mean: http://youtu.be/hFw24dfNH9M 7) When they installed the glass tile back splash, they installed some broken tiles. My husband, sister and daughter will testify you could have cut yourself on a few of them. They came back and chiseled out the broken ones & grouted in new one. 8) When mounting a towel bar on the back of the bathroom door, they punched a hole in door clear through to the other side of the door. They patched it and in doing so, managed to spill polyurethane on the dining room hardwood. They wiped that up but I now have a circular smear on the floor. 9) Somewhere in all this chaos, they chipped the mirror door on the medicine cabinet. They agreed to pay for a replacement mirrored door. 10) I was told they would seal our grout on Monday, September 22. Monday, came. No sealed grout. I asked about this three separate times and never received an answer, Finally on September 26, we decided we didn?t want these people back in our house. We had lost all trust. So my husband and I are finished the work ourselves. We replaced the medicine cabinet door, sealed the floor around the toilet, sealed the grout and installed the shelf over the toilet ourselves. My overall impression of these sub-contractors is they were haphazard and careless, including tossing cigarette butts on my driveway and forgetting food in my fridge. Joe, the owner, is a very nice man who seemed to do his best to mitigate the damage, but I have to honestly say I would never hire this company again. Ever.
Description of Work: Demolished an old bathroom down to & including subfloor. Install new tub. Tile the floor, the tub alcove and back splash for the sink.

Any item brought to our attention was addressed. There was never any reluctance on our part to address any issue. I personally communicated with the home owner to complete the final punch list items. When the home owner did not receive two of my email responses (I did not follow up by phone.) to her questions it was interpreted that we did not want to respond. This is very unfortunate because I have a picture of their bathroom in our portfolio, which the home owner did a beautiful job in designing and selecting finishes.

I am still waiting for the company to get back to me on when they want to come in again to do the infra-red survey and then make a plan on what would be needed to be done to help me make sure I have enough ventilation in my attic and or more insulation if needed to help keep ice dams from forming and or any damage to my roof, attic house due to ice dams or inadequate attic/house insulation. I am hoping to hear from the company before it gets too cold or too far into winter if possible.
Description of Work: I have to check on exact date of estimate-not on top of my head right now. My deal is for an estimate of possible future service. The representative came as promised. He was kindly and seems sincere. He looked at the attic area and said he would get back to me in the near future when the weather cools more to do an infra-red survey for heat loss. He was also going to call and talk to Angies List about my deal and how it may be used or not used to assure that I get the credit and full use of my deal or refund if not used. I appreciated his assistance for this.

I did contact Angies List regarding using your coupon at a later date and they said they would credit it for you do not need additional insulation. Being that your house is has a second story you do not have attic space that would lend itself to blown in insulation. As I suggested, it would be most beneficial to wait until it is colder and use our infrared camera to pinpoint any bad areas. This would be a more efficient use of any money you may choose to spend.

Things went well during the first meeting when he was collecting the data regarding the lack of energy efficiency of the windows, walls and attic. Then for the second meeting, he was supposed to contact me and return in about a week. Two weeks later, I contacted him and there was an issue with his computer or something. He came about a month after the initial visit with a quote. He explained the quote and when we told him that we were getting another quote, he started ignoring us and looking at his phone. At that point, we knew that we wouldn't use them. I got another quote for the same product for $2,000 less. Haven't moved forward with anything yet, but will soon.
Description of Work: They came to do the energy evaluation and then gave us a quote for 11 vinyl double-hung windows and a patio door. He also made some recommendations regarding insulation.

Thank you your review. I was actually the one who completed your evaluation. We did loose several files, but were able to recover them after a few days. I apologize if I gave you any impression I was not interested in your project. I was very happy to be able to complete the report for you. The windows and patio door were a significant area of energy loss. Actually, we handle several lines of windows and patio doors each at different price points and quality levels. I wish you the best and would be happy to give you pricing alternatives if you would so choose. Thank you. Joe Nelson - Twin City Home Remodeling LLC

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was okay. They came out and checked a bunch of stuff out and did a bunch of work. It was fine. They were no additional charges. They had a pretty fancy camera with them but it took them forever to get it going. I don't know if the batteries were bad. He kept apologizing and trying to get it going. I'm not sure if he had to use a different one. Once they got it going, they walked around and it was fine. It did take them a long time to get the fancy camera working. The cost was good. They made an appointment and came out. They have called me a time or two trying to get me to buy insulation.

A real example of professionalism, attention to detail and accountability. This involved a knockout from kitchen to living room/dining room, all new cabinetry, create island, new appliances, new lighting, new counter top..the whole 9 yards. However, an early miscalculation by TCHR regarding a load bearing wall could have resulted in a disaster. NOT SO! > They discovered it > They acknowledged it > They took responsibility for it > They worked with city engineers to figure out the solution > They fixed it (major work) ENTIRELY AT THEIR COST!! I have little doubt that this greatly impacted any profit that was to be made on this project...but they did it without so much as a whine or a whimper. Their attention to detail was excellent. They kept up full communication every step of the way. Their contractors were all part of the same culture of professionalism. Never a moment of complaint. The designer they worked with created a beautiful environment and stayed with us every step of the way, meeting at vendor stores, making suggestions, creating and re-creating designs. It was clear by the end of the project that TCHR had only one thought in mind...to make the customers happy...and they accomplished that in spades!

We liked working with them, they gave us lots of recommendations for all the issues they found and instead of trying to sell us they advised us how we could fix the issues ourselves. Providing a bulleted list of issues with their urgency and prices for their remedies as well.
Description of Work: They did a home energy audit for us.
When my wife and I decided to make the major investment in our house, I turned to Angie's List to assist with finding a general contracotor to complete the work. It was not something I wanted to do. After reading and re-reading multiple reviews, I contacted Twin City Home Remodeling and one other company to give me an estimate. The other company, while good, was higher than Twin City Home. I contacted Twin City home in May and was quickly scheduled with an appointment with Joe Nelson. When we met with Joe, I explained I wanted two estimates, one for the kitchen work and the one for the bathroom. Based on the other estimate I received, I was afraid the cost of the bathroom may bust the budget. The shower was not properly installed by my previous homeowner and it was something I wanted fixed and installed right. While Joe was out, he provided some ideas to think about in regards to flooring and granite color choices. I thought I had to remove a cabinet above the refrigerator, since a new refrig would not fit. Joe said he could have it modified and made smaller. He also suggested the same thing for the cabinet above the microwave, to provide more clearance as well. I was concerned about how everything would look, since I was not replacing the original cabinets. Joe said not to worry as he has seen a lot of people doing the same thing, and the results were just fine. There was no pressure at all from Joe, to consider replacing all of the cabinets. Joe mentioned estimates were about 10 days out, due to his current project load. When Joe did come out to present his estimate, I was pleased with his cost. We decided on the spot to move forward with Joe and Twin City Home. I still needed to think about the bathroom shower. Based on the cost of the kitchen, we decided a short time later, to increase the budget and include the bathroom. There were no issues with adding this to the orginal contract or several other changes made along the way. Joe provided us with the names of the places to go to pick out the granite countertops, tile for the backsplash and bathroom floor, and where to look at the Onyx samples for the shower. The contact at the tile store was extremely friendly and helpful in pointing us in the right direction. We had no idea what we should do, but in the end, we picked out the backsplash and floor tile in less than 30 minutes. Joe also arranged for us to meet with the floor installer. After looking at his samples, we deicded to upgrade to the hardwood floors instead of the original choice of a higher quality laminate (we have two dogs...) Choosing the granite was also really easy, for us anyway. There were more color choices included in our price category than we needed, so it was pretty easy to narrow our selection down to three right away. Besides working with Joe, I also was in contact with a couple of project coordinators throughout the whole process. The overall process took a little longer than I thought it would, but I have to admit, I did not know what to expect, having not done anything of this magnitude before. At the end of the day, I cannot say enough about the quality of work that was done. There were a lot of people in and out of my house over the duration of the project. Everyone that came through was very friendly and professional. This includes the ones called out on a Sunday to remove my old countertops (as the granite people wanted to install on a Monday) or move out some appliances so the hardwood floor installation could start on a Monday. There was a minor mishap in the bathroom, but Joe took care of it right away. I would like to mention a couple of the sub-contractors that did a lot of the work. The floor installer did a fantastic job. To keep the project moving a different company was used than orginally planned. According to Joe, it was the owners son who installed our floor. High quality job. You almost did not need baseboards, the cuts were so straight. John, the tile installer also did an outstanding job. The backsplash is one of the highlights of the kitchen. Steve was the guy who had the fun job of framing the new shower. He made sure the new shower was square, since the old one was not done very well. Steve also installed the sheet rock and was determined to fix the flaws on the other walls, as he was taping and mudding. A second John installed the Onyx shower. Again, the quality of work shows. Everyone cleaned up in the house and garage before they left each day. I would like the wrap up (sorry if I rambled on too much) and say thanks to Joe and everyone involved in my project. The finished product speaks for itself.
Description of Work: New hardwood floor in kitchen and front entry New granite countertops New tile backsplash Re-do inside trim around front door, garage entry door, closet door and kitchen entry Re-build two cabinets to make them smaller Install new Onyx shower and new tile floor in lower bathroom New Applicances (not included in estimated cost)

The project went well. All of this happened after I had filed a very negative report on the company after a company representative had visited my house to do an insulation survey. I didn't hear from the company after the visit and filed a negative report. Almost immediately the company owner got in touch with us, apologized profusely for the misstep and provided us with a list of what they could do to solve our insulation problems. We agreed to their program and they came out as agreed, performed the insulation services, cleaned up and later repaired a couple of cracks in our ceiling caused by the work done in the attic. We were very pleased with the work and therefor have refilled this account.
Description of Work: The company reinsulated my attic, crawl space and utility room.

I had some water damage on my new addition that I needed repaired. I contacted the provider thru Angie's list and they were very responsive to contact me back and come out to see what needed repaired. I waited almost three weeks until I heard back from them, they then called me to let me know they were too busy to take the project on. Since they were the only provider I contacted I was furious at how the situation was handled and time that went by before this call. After a conversation with them I decided to give them another opportunity and they told me I would have the quote by close of business Wednesday(July 2). I agreed that I would work with them and accommodate this request, well I didn't get the quote until July 5th. After the first major hiccup and then the second missed expectation on their part I have decided if they have this many missed expectations before the work has even begun I would be scared to know what the rest of the experience will be like. My experiences with Anige'sList has always been good until this event.

I received a call from a very angry [member name removed] because he had been informed we could not take on his project because of committments made since I first was out to take a look at his project. Because [member name removed] said we were the only company he had called I felt very bad for him. I told him I would see what we could do and would get back to him. It was the July 4th long weekend, but I contacted my electrical contractor at his cabin and got a committment from him for the following week. Because my crews were busy I contacted a drywall sub-contractor who had a cancelation and also scheduled the Beason's in for next week. I came in on the holiday weekend and prepared my estimates based upon email communications with my subs on vacation. I left several phone and email messages for the Beason's of what I was doing, not just preparing and estimate but getting the work scheduled for the following week! I never received a repsonse until this Angie's List email.

added insulation for bedroom wall, built it out ro accommodate the insulation, re-sheet rocked and painted bedroom wall. built a shelf along the wall again to accommodate the new insulation. They stained and varnished the shelf and touched up wood work around the windows and on the sils. In the attic they added vent chutes to each rafter opening, used foam insulation on the rafter heals, sealed the attic access door to prevent air leakage. Replaced my front door with a smooth fiberglass energy saver door plus replaced the storm door with an easy view screen door. Readjusted gutter flashing They were conscientious about not making a mess and cleaning up.\ There seemed to be a lack of communication at times in that the workers did not appear to know who would do what when creating inefficiency.
Description of Work: The energy evaluation--inspecting the roof and attic including using an infrared scanner-- was excellent; at the special deal cost of $59. I subsequently hired them to do the needed repair of my damaged bedroom wall and wood-work. .Evaluated the situation to what was needed and coordinated the work among his employees. He would check the progress as well as confer with me. He would facilitate progress of the job.

It was quick to get the sales guy out for an estimate, but very slow after I decided to hire them. It took several weeks to get the work done and I had to contact them to schedule, they never called me. A few issues with them not bringing the correct door, but they were quick with fixing the issues. Cracked the drywall in a couple spots during trim installation and didn't offer to fix it when I pointed it out. Overall, very nice guys, it was just a lot of effort on my part. They did a good job with my new window installation. I might consider hiring them again, depending on the job.

The appointment for the actual energy audit went fairly quick. All my questions were answered in a professional manner, no condescending tone of voice. When we went over the report I was given practical ideas for solving my issues, was given recommendations for the items that I could tackle on my own and advice on where to start to make the biggest impact. He explained that many things he saw were common due to the nature of construction and the age of my house. (It was built in 1940.) All in all it was a good experience and found that where I thought I needed to start upgrading insulation was less important than I thought.

The big deal was good. We didn't end up buying the product from them. One person came in and he had this tool with which he showed us where we didn't have insulation. It was really useful. This was the first time we used them. Usually two people come in, and one uses the camera thing, and the other one writes what they see, but because they were busy, only one person showed up, and he was doing the evaluation. He had no time to write it at the same time, and that is the only thing that I didn't like. There were some pieces of information that he didn't remember.

This was an excellent experience from bid process to completion. All facets of this project were handled professionally, all appointments were kept and on time. There were follow up calls made to inquire about our satisfaction. We have received numerous compliments on appearance and quality of installation. Would definitely recommend this company.

OK - the day ended up being too warm to do an accurate infra-red test, so the contractor said he would come back when it was cooler, and send me the results, but I have not heard anything further.

We contacted Twin City Remodeling through Angies List, March 17 and the first inspection took place March 24. It was a disappointment. The guy looked in the attic and said "Yes, that's an attic" and proceeded to show us pictures of other damaged attics. We never did get a 'report' after requesting it twice over two weeks. After reading that we were not happy, Joe Nelson the owner, came out April 19 and inspected again. He sent a report within an hour that highlighted several problem areas and estimates on what it would cost to fix them. Joe called on April 23 and said "I will send a guy out early next week to fix the water damaged closet for a reasonable fee. His name is Mike". I said "Fantastic" That was six weeks ago. We still have not seen any Mike. My wife is mad. She keeps asking when it's going to be fixed. I keep saying "I don't know" Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Description of Work: Looked in the attic and looked for heat losses with a thermoscope. Gave advice on ways to fix ice dam problem and closet leak.
