moving companies

This move was a nightmare from start to finish. Two other moving companies supplied quotes for the move based on an actual walk through of the property. Precision Van Lines chose not to come and look over the property to be moved. I provided the square footage of the house and was asked questions of what I had by going from room to room and also providing the shipping weights the other two companies estimated. Then I was given an estimate for using 2 trucks. I chose this company because the bid was only slightly higher than one of the other companies (which hadn't been real friendly) and much lower than the 2nd company. The owner assured me all of my property would fit into two trucks. Family and friends all told me there is no way it would possibly fit into just two trucks. About a week prior to the move I contacted the owner expressing my concerns and emailed pictures of everything on the main floor & offered to email more. The move was scheduled to take place on a Monday and I did not hear back until late on the Friday before. Again I was promised all would fit & it would break a company record if it didn't, based on the square footage of my house even though I kept stressing how much stuff I had. The company didn't want more pictures & promised it would all fit in 2 trucks, but if it didn't they would come back for another $2000+ the next day. I said I wouldn't pay that. Well since it was late Friday when he got back to me, that meant it was also too late for me to contact a different moving company. On Monday when they showed up, right away complained about my steep driveway (they were told about it from the start & the other 2 companies that saw it weren't concerned at all). The owner insisted I call someone with a payloader or tractor to be on standby in case they couldn't get back up my driveway when fully loaded. The 1st truck made it up the driveway. When the 2nd truck was being backed down it went off the driveway & got stuck. The moving company owner told me to call the person on standby. He was pulled out by my good friend; and never offered to pay him. In hindsight I should have insisted he call someone in the business of towing! Their truck going off the driveway shouldn't have involved me whatsoever. I never should have asked my neighbor for such a huge favor. It interfered with his work day, not to mention the time and fuel to pull the truck out. And just like everyone thought, two trucks was not enough to move all of my personal property. Also, as they were loading, the moving company owner would hand me items that he said he wouldn't take. I kept telling him my car was already full & he should have informed me ahead of time so I could have moved those items myself. They unloaded the 2 trucks the next day and said they would go back on day 3 (even tho I had been promised they would go back on day 2) for the rest of my property for the extra $2000+ that had to be paid up front (and now once again I had no choice but to use them). And not only did they need the money up front but specifically at 8:45 am. My bank opened at 8:30; so I had to make sure and be there as soon as they opened & hope they weren't busy, so I could hurry back within that 15 minute window of time to present the cashier's check. Then I had to contact the buyer of my property (who still lived over 40 miles away) to meet them (he owned it since Monday & planned to have furniture delivered Wednesday; so it was a big inconvenience). The movers got another late start due to repairs, then broke down again & were delayed over 4 hours; while the new property owner sat & waited until late afternoon. They did not finish loading until 10pm, which was a considerable inconvenience to the new owner. Everything that was left to be moved had been discussed and was in specific areas. While loading truck 3 they called to confirm certain items that I wanted. However when they returned on day 4 to unload the 3rd truck, the movers told me they didn't bring everything and named off some items. Some they couldn't take by law (paint) and again, this was day 3, truck 3 and why didn't he tell me that on day 1, especially since this moving company owner had walked around the cartons of paint all day long on day 1 and never said a word about not taking paint! On day 4 while his employees were unloading the 3rd truck, the moving company owner called & said he thought they did a good job & I should tip them. I said I was a very unhappy customer & if anybody should provide a tip it should be him. And he didn't provide the full service when making a decision about what to load. When I asked him why he didn't load some of the items he said those items should stay with the house. I told him that was not his decision to make & he should have brought all of my personal property with the exception of items not allowed by law (fuel & paint); but could have told me up front about those specific items so I could have arranged to have them moved and not left on this new owner's property. This business owner hung up on me! I have packed and moved over 25 times and have never experienced a move as stressful and unpleasant as this one nor have I dealt with such an unprofessional business owner. I am one unhappy customer.
Description of Work: Moving entire household of furniture and all other personal property from one location to another; a total of 200 miles roundtrip.
