Malcolm did a terrific job on the ceiling, replacing plaster with drywall, and on the repair of the plaster walls. The cedar panels in the closet, however, only extend part of the way up the wall to a border that is there at rod height. He didn't seem to want to deal with cutting the cedar to extend it to the ceiling. He also did a very poor job on the painting as he installed the varnished crown molding and painted afterward so that there is noticeable paint along the edges of the crown molding. It seemed to me as if Malcolm enjoyed some of the more challenging aspects of the job but hurried through the more mundane parts doing a rather sloppy job.
Description of Work: We hired Malcolm to redo our bedroom ceiling and walls as we have an older home and things were beginning to crack and shift.

Response from J MALCOLM THOMPSON CUSTOM
I'm very surprised to get such an average rating from [member name removed] as they told me they were very satisfied with the entire job. The issue with the cedar involved extra material and costs that I discussed with them and I charge by time + materials so the involved fitting of the paneling was going to cost a great deal for what they were going to get. They therefore elected not to extend the ceder. As to the paining, I'm at a loss. It is customary to use colored caulk to fill gaps between trim and the wall and to extend the wall color onto the trim by 1/8" to create a sharper line. Contractors rely upon clients to be honest with their expectations and budgeting. Contractors have to balance quality vs. costs. If Sheryl had told me there was something she wanted corrected or improved, I most certainly would have insured she was happy. I did this work more that two years ago and this is the first I'm hearing of problems. Malcolm Thompson Thompson Custom Remodeling
