Al performed on site inspection and quoted between $400 and $500, with guarantee of no more than $500. The scheduled date, Al arrived late in the morning with his lift truck and waited around for an hour or more for his helpers to show up. Shortly after starting, his helper told me it would be $75 more because of unspecified complications. I wish I had gotten written comfirmation of the extent of the work but he limited his work to the few trees that we had discussed in detail but I had assumed that we were going to get all the clearly dead branches in the yard cut. While we had not been explicit, I am sure there were some other trees that I had discussed generally that he denied were included in our agreement. He initially neglected to remove some large dead branches even in the main tree we had discussed, but he brought his lift truck back to the back yard to take care of those two, because even he couldn't dodge that that was indisputedly part of the deal. If you use this guy, you should write down what you want him to handle and have him sign it with a fixed price. He was also too talkative both at the estimate visit and on the day of work. He did, however, give me some useful (and what proved accurate according to other sources) tips about repairing squirrel and wood p***** problems. After the work, and the shameless way he jacked up the price and shorted me on the work, he called me up suggesting I buy some pine trees from his son.
