Upper Mississippi Irrigation

So right off the bat I could tell this company was a smaller company more like a mom and pop shop the price was lower than most, but now I understand why. The company owner Paul. Is a dishonest man. My wife called me six times while I was at work. She finally got a hold of me she told me that one of the employees name Andy kicked my 10 pound dog in front of my wife; she yelped. When my Wife asked if you kick my dog It took her asking him twice for him to finally respond with yes. She then went to the supervisor and told him about the incident and he said he would’ve done the exact same thing. I didn’t call Paul up and ask him what is going on and he basically told me that Andy did not kick my dog and my wife was lying he also said that he was there when it happened and the guy just tapped my dog then he changed his story to “I tried reaching out to the dog and she tried to bite me” my dog has around him all day when they initially came out and the day of the incident he was never around my dog. He then put his hand in my wife’s face and said he was done with her in a very rude and disrespectful way. I rush home and confront Paul, He states that he sent Andy home which was another lie because we saw him literally a few minutes after he stated that. He said that this whole situation got blown out of proportion the only reason that whole thing was born at proportion. True, because he could not be professional and apologize for his employees action instead he decided to lie to my face call my wife a liar put his hand in her face and say it’s OK for his employee to kick a 10 pound dog that is wagging its tail and he would do it to. Finally after going back-and-forth and his story changing three or four times he finally apologized but even then I did not feel like a genuine apology. I will never do business with this company they are unprofessional and apparently have issues with “wives” not liking at work. He stated several times that it’s always the wives that have issues with our work. I truly feel that saving a few bucks on the sprinkler system was not worth it I would go with a bigger company that really cares about their work and their customers, Paul should be ashamed of himself and needs to have more integrity. Based on his handling of the situation only tells me that he is dishonest about other company practices.

Found the problem -- tree roots constricting underground pipe. Then fixed it.

the repair guy was rude and didn't show up when he said he would. 1st appointment, I was told they have someone in my area and they will call me when the repair guy on his way. No one called or showed up. 2 days later he called me to say someone can come the next morning, I advised I have a early morning meeting however, we can go it later that day. So the repair guy came and figured out the issue and stated he can come back the next day due to he needed to get the part. So I took off work and waited an no one called or showed up again. So I sent a message and advised of the no call no show. So I was then told they wasn't aware that the repairs was not completed so they would get back to me later. I received a call that day to say they could be come now. I advised unfortunately I was at work and I couldn't leave right now. Explained, I have been trying to be flexible and meet them but no one comes when they suppose to. I was told by the repair guy: Look, I can't worry about what didn't happen before and if I wanted to go look for another company I could. So I said thank you. This is the most unprofessional behavior and is completely unacceptable. No way will I spend $1 with a company that treats me this way.

Paul came to our home and wandered the yard with me while I explained what we wanted. He returned several days later with the quote and provided a detailed diagram of the irrigation system he would install. The installation was done on time and on budget. He was very pleasant to work with and freely answered all my questions.

Everything was great. On time. Lower quote from others. Lawn already looking great!

We put them into operation about a month ago and so far everything has turned out very well. They were referred to us by an architect who is very well known and respected.

Never got started. The tech never showed up.

Paul worked rapidly with both the quoting process and the installation. He does the work himself with two long time employees. Since the ground was extremely dry, there was more damage than I had expected with the installation of the piping, but Paul insured correctly that the ground would repair itself in a short time. I am very pleased with the system and the guarantee.

I contacted three contractors for bids and Paul was the best price and most convincing. He mentioned he would be able to do it in 2-3 weeks and at three weeks I had not heard from him and I contacted him to find out when it was going to get done. He said he had us scheduled for one week out, first thing in the morning. He was on time and went right to work with two assistants.They were very personable throughout the process. I was disappointed in two aspects of the job. 1. Sod was replaced sloppily in those areas where it needed to be cut to accomodate juncture boxes etc. I am sure in time those area will look fine, but more care could have been taken. 2. Some digging had to be done in and near plant beds and in the process one plant was destroyed and another was covered with dirt and not uncovered. Overall I was satisfied, just not wowed. Perhaps my expectations were too high (this is my first sprinkler installation) and if so, it would have helped for Paul to prepare me better for what was to come. The system has worked flawlessly since installation including the rain sensor and I thought the price was fair.

Everything was fine. Their prices seemed in line, but I decided on a full-service landscaping company instead.

Having heard from competitors, [and please understand, I had no personal experince] became concerned about doing business with them.

UMI did an excellent job. They arrived on time and were finished when they said they would be. Cleaned up after themselves and explained how the system worked. Great crew!

Very helpful in explaining operation, very responsive when I had a question about spring operation. Price was 1/3 lower than other estimates, for same service.

Everything went very well. They had it done in one day, and they were on time. They cleaned up very well afterward. Their prices were very competitive and we would certainly recommend them.

We had a tremendous experience from the prompt return of our first phone call, timely initial visit to provide estimate (in pouring rain,) accurate and reasonable estimate (half the price of other bids), convenient scheduling of work, on-time and thorough installation, and courteous and prompt response for minor adjustment during initial use of system. Maintenance has been prompt, reliable and this firm always provides the option of learning how to maintain the system on one's own, at no cost. Friendly, responsive and well priced professionals who accepted Angie's List coupon for price reduction. We can't say enough about this firm, and highly recommend it to anyone interested in an irrigation system.

Upper Mississippi continues to provide outstanding service and quality work. They are always on time and reliable. They initially installed our sprinklers, too, and we have had no problems at all. They are very good.

Paul came several times, at our request, to answer questions and explain the system. We have a well-established lawn, but have never used anything other than sprinklers and hoses. All of the workers were very efficient, and the work was completed with minimal "mess." We are very pleased and would recommend Upper Mississippi Irrigation to anyone!

Working with UMI was easy. They did a great job and have provided after-sales service. I received quotes from 7 irrigation companies. UMI was the second lowest price and the only ones to provide 2 years warranty for parts and labor (everyone else gave 1 year parts and labor). Other quotes: $3700; $2365 + Plumbing (approx 500-600); $2950; $1800; $3565 + Plumbing; $3380. UMI showed up on time and were done in 5 hours. Other companies gave estimates of 1-2 days to complete. UMI had to dig under our sidewalk for one zone which seemed to be a burden for the other providers. The irrigation system turned out well. We have head to head coverage and UMI has already been back to tweak the system at no cost.

The installation was excellent, no issues, and the winterization has been steady and reliable ever since. They are helpful when I call with issues (such as broken head) and were very helpful regarding a slow drip/leak in the system water distribution head this month when they were out for winterization. The service tech suggested a solution and then replacement in the spring if needed when they are better equipped for repairs and replacement of system parts.

I called this business based on their top-position in my search of Angie's List for a new lawn irrigation company to winterize my sprinkler system. I left a voice mail asking for an estimate. Their Angie's List profile page says, "Ask about Angie's List 5% off discount" so when I called I made sure to tell them where I got their name and asked about the discount. I received a return call later the same evening from Paul. He gave a price range for winterization and said that they only offer $150 off a new installation for Angie's List customers and do not honor any other discounts. He seemed to assume I was trying to use the $150 coupon for winterization (and getting it free) and treated me as such. I did not consider his response to be appropriate given that their profile tells Angie's List customers to ask for a 5% discount on their work. I have elected to use someone else. If they do not honor the discount for work done for List customers, I consider their statement dishonest.

They were friendly and knowledgeable. They showed up when expected. When finished they explained how to run the sprinkler system very well. Because my house was older they ran into a problem with my existing plumbing. Because of that they had to work about one hour longer but didn't charge me for the extra labor or parts. I felt it was a good price and the Angie's List discount made it even better. Now my lawn gets enough water so it looks so much better. Because of work and being able to water on even days only, I could not get enough water into the lawn before and my soil is sandy.

Very good, very professional, very neat. Neighbor used a different company and was not happy. I would hire Upper Mississippi again.
