Went very well. Called ahead to schedule. Crew arrived on time. Reviewed work to be done with me prior to start. Very thorough and well informed about the job. Very cooperative on extras such as cutting stump as low as possible after I removed all rock and plastic sheathing. Worked very hard the whole time. Knew what they were doing. Excellent clean-up.

This is a "class act" company. Scott Henke, a consulting arborist, came out on 5/27/08, assessed the trees and gave a cost estimate. He said the work would be done in 1 1/2 weeks. On 6/5, I received a call that they would be out this morning (6/6) and at 7:30 this morning they arrived! In 2 1/2 hours, a crew of 6 men, with several trucks, safely and meticulously cut down the two trees. The stump grinders will come later. I watched them the entire time and the team, led by pruning foreman Brent, worked like a well-oiled machine - smoothly and in constant motion! And they looked like they were enjoying their work. Additionally, the clean-up was impressive and my lawn and sidewalk look cleaner than when they started. I VERY HIGHLY recommend this company.
Description of Work: Removal of two large, dying trees, each 40+ feet tall, and stump grinding, from a very small, south Minneapolis front yard.

The representative was helpful and gave sound advice. He marked the trees to assist the crew and listened carefully to my concerns. About a week later I received a call from the scheduler and told that the work would be done the next day. The work was done thoroughly, cleanup was complete and the results were great!
Description of Work: I needed to have three trees trimmed that are located in the front of my house. I also needed advice as to how often the trees should be trimmed and how best to keep them from interfering with the sidewalk and front yard.

Mr. McCormick was very knowledgeable and obviously had a great love for trees. He patiently explained that our tree was actually a shrub that was well over 100 years old. It's proximity to our foundation would cause no problems. He proactively checked out the health of the shrub and even looked at another tree because he just thought it was so beautiful. The shrub stays!
Description of Work: Mr. McCormick gave us his professional opinion on if a tree needed to be removed or not from our yard. Also, a cost estimate if they did remove it.

1. Consultation was a pleasant and informative experience. Arborist provided well-detailed diagram of yard with trees, and an organized, detailed proposal for treatment. He explained likely causes of illness/injury of sick trees. 2. Pruning work went well also. Anticipated wait was around 2 months, ended up being about 5 weeks. 2 workers doing pruning/removal were polite, efficient, answered questions, explained their work and cleaned up the yard well. They advised that trees might not look great for a while, but in fact they looked pretty good when they were done. 3. Work done August and October 2007. Company sent reminder in February 2008 about scheduling fertilizer treatment they had advised.
Description of Work: We had several trees in our yard that were doing poorly, as well as healthy ones in need of trimming. 1. Initial consultation by arborist Nathan Pischke cost $85. He identified the types of trees, conditions affecting the sick ones, and made recommendations for removing sick ones, and for trimming and fertilizing healthy ones. 2. Subsequent pruning of 6 trees and one large shrub, plus removal of one small tree, for $615.

We originally asked Rainbow to quote on trimming the birch and maple, and removing three other trees and stumps. Al Olson pointed out that the dead branches at the top of the birch were die to bronze birch borer. He recommended a pesticide applied by injection into the surrounding soil. Rainbow's price for the tree and stump removal was quite high, so we broke that work out and gave it to another contractor. We had much more confidence in Rainbow to do the work on the trees we wanted to keep. Rainbow had no objection to this, and maintained their price for the remaining work. They performed all the work promptly and as promised. The workers were very professional, and cleaned up thoroughly.
Description of Work: Treated birch for bronze birch borer. Trimmed birch and large silver maple.

We needed a large Maple tree removed. The tree was in a garden that had taken 7 years to develop, had a large fence post embedded in the trunk and a large branch was touching the neighbors tile roof. Russell looked at the tree and gave me the solution I was looking for. The bid was competitive with other companies. The day of the removal was set for January 3, after the ground was frozen in order to protect the gardens. The crew arrived promptly at 8:00 and began work. This task required the use of a crane. My husband and I were fascinated watching the work. As each branch was tied then cut the crane lifted it straight up into the air. The work was done quickly and the area cleaned up nicely. The gardens were treated kindly and I don't expect to see any ill effects next spring. The neighbors house was not touched. We were extremely pleased with the work. Communication was great, too. Very easy to work with.
Description of Work: Remove a very large Maple tree from our yard. Tree had a metal fence post ingrown into the trunk sticking out from the base at a 45 degree angel. Gardens under tree were not to be disturbed.

I had a dead elm tree I needed them to remove. They wanted $1500 for the work. After the job was done, I came home to find that 3 of my landscaping steps had been shattered. I have used them before and this is the first time the company has ever done this. I called them about the problem and they came back out, matched the stone from the steps and repaired the damaged steps. I would probably still use them again since they have done other work for me that was satisfactory.

Response from Rainbow Treecare West Metro
WE DO APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CARE FOR YOUR TREES DURING THE LAST FOUR YEARS. ON OCTOBER 31ST, WE ARRIVED AT YOUR HOME TO REMOVE YOUR ELM TREE. AT THAT TIME WE DISCOVERED CONCRETE PAVERS HAD RECENTLY BEEN INSTALLED NEAR THE TREE TO BE REMOVED. WE DISCUSSED THE SITUATION WITH YOU AND STATED THAT WE DID NOT FEEL WE COULD REMOVE THE TREE WITHOUT DAMAGING THE PAVERS BUT WOULD DO THE BEST WE COULD. WITH YOUR APPROVAL WE REMOVED THE TREE BUT UNFORTUNATELY DAMAGED 3 PAVERS. AFTER TALKING WITH YOU ON THE PHONE ABOUT THE DAMAGED PAVERS, AGAIN ON THE 31ST, WE AGREED TO REPLACE/REPAIR THE DAMAGE AT NO COST TO YOU. YOU INFORMED US AT THAT TIME THAT YOU ALREADY HAD PAVERS AVAILABLE AND WOULD JUST NEED SOMEONE TO REPLACE THEM. WE WERE HAPPY TO DO THAT AND ARRANGED TO DO THE REPAIR WORK WITHIN A WEEK'S TIME. WE UNDERSTAND YOUR DISMAY WHEN GREETED WITH THESE BROKEN PAVERS BUT FEEL WE HONESTLY STATED OUR CONCERNS UPFRONT AND THEN DID EVERYTHING POSSIBLE TO CORRECT ANY REMAINING ISSUES IN A TIMELY MANNER. OUR UNDERSTANDING, AFTER OUR PHONE CONVERSATIONS WITH YOU, IS THAT YOU ARE VERY PLEASED WITH THE RESOLUTION. THANK YOU, WE LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU IN THE FUTURE. I find Rainbow Treecare a very knowledgeable and trustworthy tree service. They have a Ph.D. arborist on staff to answer questions (consultation is free if you are a repeat customer). They steered us in the right direction after our lawn care company tried to propose some unnecessary work. They work with clients to schedule tree care at times when they can get the best deal, send out periodic newsletters on pertinent tree and lawn issues and employ eco-friendly methods as much as possible.

The reason i chose this company out of 3 or 4 other bids. The one had an Arborists that listened to me The rest had their own plan and didn't seem to listen very well. He was very informative of different options we had to achieve the outcome I desired. He cut a another branch off of a tree that had Dutch Elm left by a different company at not additional cost. They were very nice and came out quickly. There was a few minor things that were missed, but they assured me they would be back out in the spring to correct anything that needed it. The clean up was also great. They raked the entire yard and removed other branches form around the yard.

I'm not an expert, but the pruning removed the deadwood, provided clearance to the house/garage, and lowered our back hedge to 10' (hopefully Rainbow's advice will make it thicker). The engagement though, was not very smooth. We received our quote in June 2007 and were told it would be a "few weeks" before they could get to us. My main concern was deadwood falling on our house. Two big wind storms in August 2007 reminded me that they had not done the work yet, so I called. Rainbow insisted they could get to it in early September. In late September I called and wanted a definitive date and was given the first week of October. Rainbow had to reschedule due to rains, pushing it out another week. They cleaned up the two trees but did not cut the hedge to 10' or cut it straight. They are coming back "soon" to remedy at their cost. I called Rainbow to get exact dates for this report but they did not send it to me. Rainbow did have the best price and matched their competitor where necessary.
Description of Work: Full pruning for large paper birch tree to remove dead limbs and provide clearance near our house; pruned box elder tree away from garage; pruned a buckthorn hedge from 20' to 10' to encourage thicker growth at the base.

I had hired Rainbow before, I appreciated that the arborist (Leben) was familiar with my yard. Leben assessed my situation, pointed out that only one tree needed to be trimmed (I had thought there were 2). Leben reminded me there was a minimum charge for using the tree truck, in case I had some other work I wanted done (I didn't). My job was scheduled for a Monday---the previous weekend we had terrible storm damage in St. Paul. A Rainbow person contacted me immediately to tell me they needed to do emergency tree damage before getting to my job. They re-scheduled me ASAP. Their cleanup was perfect--not a chip on the ground.

I called Rainbow to schedule an appointment for a tree pruning estimate and got an appointment for the following day. They did require that someone be home to do the estimate for pruning. Mike called the day of the appointment to say that he'd be in the neighborhood earlier than expected and could he come early to do the estimate. He wrote up an estimate for pruning various tall trees that were near or touching our house and to remove some storm-damaged branches. He was very friendly, helpful and professional. We ultimately decided to go with another company with a lower bid.

We were thrilled with Rainbow. Our Arborist not only assessed our tree but he answered questions about other trees on our property. He even pointed out that one of our shrubs was causing a tree to have a rust disease and suggested getting rid of the shrub to save the tree which plays a major structural role in our yard. I really appreciated his tree knowledge as well as his appreciation for the style in our yard. They charged us nothing for the visit! And to add icing to the cake, he honestly told me that the best company to remove the tree was another company because they specialized in difficult removals. He didn't put profit ahead of getting the job done right. I was extremely impressed. We would hire them in a heart beat to do other work in our yard!

They were here 20 minutes after I called them. When they were done they cleaned up the place better than it had been before they came. They even used a blower to dust off the top of the truck. The price was very reasonable. They will not injure your tree using spikes.
