They quoted us a price in the Fall of $110 and then subsequently billed us for $110 plus another $115 when they had to restart the system in the Sping for a total of $225. I am certain their are plenty of other companies who will winterize your systems for less than $225.

They weren?t able to do anything about it as the sod was starting to get established. They made notes of what our concerns were and seemed concerned about us. Our experience with them was really good.

+ 5 moreLyle was professional and knowledgeable from the first. They took out 20 year old junipers from clay soil, amended the soil and planted replacement shrubs. We explored options and discussed what I wanted. When I thought there were too many plants for the look I wanted, Lyle cheerfully worked with me to come up with something that I was happy with -- and suggested some boulders that added a nice touch. He pushed the schedule because I was leaving town for a couple of weeks -- without my even asking. The two men who did the work left everything completely cleaned up.

+ 4 moreAfter having our garage rebuilt, we needed to have the area around the foundation regraded since everything was excavated for the construction. We also needed to address drainage issues being that our neighbor's property is higher than ours. L&R had regraded and landscaped our property when we first bought the house, so we trusted them to do a good job. Ron is very knowledgeable about what needs to be done to correct the problems. He is very professional and takes even these "smaller" jobs seriously. Even though we had hired L&R for two previous jobs, we decided to get a couple of other bids to compare pricing and see what the others had to offer. Ron's bid was about even in terms of price, but he offered much more when it came to correcting the drainage problem, and finishing the landscaping. Other companies suggested that we install the river rock ourselves, but not at a reduced price. We had a crew of two men that did all the digging by hand (the space did not allow the use of machinery.) They completed the regrading, drain installation, and sod replacement in two days. We are very pleased with their work again.
Description of Work: Regraded around foundation after remodeling construction. Installed drain tile to assist with drainage problem. Installed landscaping river rock. Replaced 67 yards of sod that was damaged during construction.

+ 2 moreWe planted in late summer, early fall. They were great to start with- professional and prompt. We were good about watering. In the spring about half the plants and all the sod were dead. It took several phone calls to even get them on the phone to discuss it. The receptionist was like a brick wall, referring us to page 6 of the contract that said plants were only warranted for 30 days! We left several messages with her before anyone ever called us back. When we finally got Ron on the phone, he agreed to come out and replaced everything after having a look. This would have been an A review if they would have returned our calls when we had a problem.
Description of Work: Extended garden areas in front, sides, back of our house with pavers, edging, mulch, new plants, etc. Also built up an area next to the house to improve runoff and re sodded about 1000 sq feet in this area.

+ 5 moreThe experience was largely seamless. It started with Ron who came with the most concrete plans we were presented amongst all the bidders. We had a complicated project and he just nailed it with his vision and drawings. Other contractors drew some vague sketches of the proposed work, but never left me with a real concept of what it would actually look like. Ron has us at "hello" with his professionalism and attention to detail. He drew stunning plans that he subsequently made sure came to fruition. Work started on time and proceeded quickly. The two on-site guys were both delightful people and were responsive to all my ?'s. The finished product is truly stunning and in line with the drawings that Ron presented us at the beginning. We ran into a little snag right at the end when a nosy neighbor called the city and the city retroactively made L and R pull a permit--but Ron and Layla handled it professionally and gracefully. If you have a complicated landscaping project, I would w/o hesitation, recommend L and R. If you are going to spend that much money, do it right.
Description of Work: Completely overhauled our "urban wildlife" backyard. The terrain was very sloped, full of weeds and debris, without a place for the children to play safely or adults to even walk easily. Borders a creek. The company placed tons of black dirt and boulders back there to form level surfaces via grading and retaining walls. Also placed a bluestone patio and sodded.

+ 1 moreThey removed all old dead sod from lawn and installed 8 zone irrigation system. I have to say I have never hired anyone that worked harder or faster than the crew from L&R Landscaping. The only thing I would suggest to anyone getting an irrigation system is to get a drawn map of the piping and valve units for reference when trying to do work in the future.

+ 1 moreL&R was prompt in its response and clear in its review of the site and its proposal. It took one month after we agreed to the project for L&R to do the work. New landscaping and lawn is attractive. We didn't have water seeping into our home to begin with, so it's hard to know if the drainage corrections have completely worked. This was more of a preventive measure in some low-traffic areas around our house. However, the air in the enclosed basement seems less musty, which may have resulted in part from the removal of the moisture-retaining planter boxes and the lowering of the soil grade. A leak was noticed in the sprinkler system after L&R completed the project. I'm frankly not sure whether this was caused by the work, but L&R came out promptly and fixed the problem. The only knock was the month delay in getting the work done, but then we did seek a bid in August during a presumably busy season for landscaping.
Description of Work: Drainage improvements around the exterior of the house. Planks to a raised wooden deck were removed so the contractor could regrade the soil underneath and seal foundation around a window well that had been filled in. Planter boxes were removed from another section of the house, soil level was lowered, and a section of the lawn was regraded to improve drainage and was then reseeded. Landscaping to replace the planters boxes included fabric weed barrier underneath and decorative rock on top. Third portion of the project included sealing foundation at a point where the old house and a new addition met, and correcting drainage in that area to flow away from foundation.

+ 3 moreRon's design and bidding process was great, and he provided the clarity I was looking for in his bid. His crews showed up as promised and were very professional. The project was completed on time also as promised. With a large project there are always minor issues and both Ron and his crew were responsive to our requests. I felt like they always chose to do things the right way instead of taking shortcuts or the cheap way out. Drainage issues were addressed correctly. I think it is very hard to know if the price is right with landscaping. In the end I felt I got what I paid for. All the work was done by hand (no machines due to access issues) and 3 solid weeks of work. What I do know for sure is that Ron bid all the costs separately and up front - so I knew exactly what to expect, and they delivered exactly what was bid. There were very few unforeseen add on costs and they were reasonable. My only (very minor) complaint would be that some of the crews are not as detail oriented as Ron himself and could use slightly more supervision - nothing major and I'm known to be a very picky person. I would definitely recommend L&R Suburban Landscaping and plan to use them again myself.
Description of Work: L&R completely renovated our backyard landscaping including removing multiple trees, adding a stone patio, knee wall, fire pit, lighting, irrigation, and added a stone stairway and landscaping to our unfinished side yard. I had 2 other landscapers look at the project: one asked for $300 just for a plan and never delivered anything (I req. refund after 90 days). The other tried to pitch a project >$150K. Ron Cemenski from L&R showed up in less than 1 week and immediately seemed to know what we wanted and needed. He then delivered a professional plan within 2 weeks at no upfront cost. Ron's experience and professionalism were evident.

+ 3 moreEverything went well. We only had one minor issue, our old pavers they returned to the back door were uneven and sloping toward the house. I called to let the office know and the problem was corrected and turned out great! We are really pleased with the outcome and feel confident in our choice.
Description of Work: Backyard drainage correction, retaining walls, sod and mulch bed: We have a walkout basement which the dirt was built up against the house walls by previous owners and over time water had rotted the wood and sheathing causing water to flow inside. L & R corrected this problem by excavating the soil away from the walls and deeper than the foundation floor, and regraded the ground sloping toward the far backyard corner away from the house. Removed the one retaining wall, dug back further into the hill and created a new wall with drain box which provides transfer of water from the back of the retaining wall as well as the gutter downspout. The drain box empties away from the house near the bottom slope of the hill. They also created a small retaining wall at the other side of the walkout foundation by removing a large shrub and landscaping rocks as well as taking out some of the earth there also. This provides better drainage away from this corner which also had flooding inside. The AC slab and pavers by the back doorway were temporarily moved during the work and they put them back in place. Sod was placed in the area which was regraded and mulch with vinyl edge w/metal support stakes and fabric weed barrier placed at the tops of the retaining walls, and about 4-5' from the foundation along the walkout wall. Placed grass seed in areas of grass damaged by equipment. During our final walk through, Ron took the time to go over the work completed and he gave detailed instruction how to care for the sod.

+ 1 moreThis report is about work that we had done about 5 years ago when we first moved into our house and found that we had inherited drainage issues. Ron came out to do the proposal. He was very professional and knew exactly what needed to be done to correct our damp basement which was a result of grading problems. We had 3 other contractors bid the project, and none of them really addressed the drainage issue. It seemed that Ron was the only one that actually listened to our needs. The others thought that adding plants near the foundation would solve the problem, when the exact opposite was needed. The crew that did the work was fast and thorough. They removed most of the plantings near the foundation that were holding moisture near the house. They corrected the grading and installed decorative river rock. The planting beds were moved a few feet out from the foundation and edged with a nice flowing curve to complement the rest of the yard. Now, 5 years later, the landscaping still looks great and drainage has not been a problem (knock on wood). We have since used L&R for removal of a row of poorly planted shrubs along our back fence, which they replaced with some nice dwarf Korean lilacs. They are a bit more expensive than some other landscaping companies, but it was worth it knowing that the job was going to be done right the first time.
Description of Work: Regraded the perimeter of the house to correct drainage issues around the foundation. Installed drain tile to divert excess water from an area near house where pooling was an issue. Removed problem plantings near the house and replaced with landscaping rocks with poly film underneath to divert water away from foundation. Also raised 3 window wells to help with water intrusion.

+ 1 moreThe grading near a basement window got messed up when the extension piece of our gutter was accidentally knocked off by playing children. Water flowed the wrong way, a sinkhole developed, and instead of water being directed away from the house, water was pushed up against the window frame and held there. The estimator came out and saw immediately what needed to be done. He remarked that he was going to include the area where the gutter was because, given the circumstances, it was likely that the extension piece could and would be knocked off again. He explained in detail what they would do. I also had him look at another area that was not causing a problem yet, but might in the future. He broke the estimate down into two parts, the part that had to be done and the part that could wait. The estimate was fine, we decided to have both areas corrected, and the company scheduled the work around my schedule (we had some travel plans). The guys who did the work were prompt, hard working and courteous. The project took 2-3 days. A supervisor turned up at the end of each day to take a look at the work and give further instructions to the guys doing the labor. At the end of the project, a supervisor came out to inspect the project, walk through it with me and answer my questions. I have a project in mind for next year involving landscaping and my driveway, and this is the first company I will call.
