My wife and I had some issues with a couple of fences on our home. We contacted a couple of fence companies and Built-Rite offered to repair our fence as opposed to replacing it. This seemed like a good idea and was a lot more economical. Our original fence was installed by a well known fence company a number of years ago and they apparently did a poor job. Overall, the repaired fence looks "good". There are couple things I would have liked to see done differently, however i need to remind myself this is a fence repair and not a replacement.

I chose this company to replace my fence due to the fact it was the only company who would replace a fence under 75' without charging an extra fee. The owner came out and gave me an estimate. I chose the fence I wanted and told him I wanted to be home when the work was being completed since I had 3 dogs and needed to create a temporary fence when they took the old fence out. I was home on a Sunday afternoon when I looked out the window and saw my fence being taken down without prior notice. I had to run out and create a make shift fence for my dogs. During the week I came home and found two men putting in the fence posts. Again, I did not receive prior notice. I was informed by my neighbors that they could hear these two men arguing with each other all morning. My fence was completed another day when I was at work without prior notice. I specifically asked Jon to place the fence close to the ground like my previous fence since I foster dogs and can't have space under the fence for them to dig under and crawl through. The fence was placed high off the ground. I found many split boards, the gate was very unevenly hung, the main posts had big holes in them which were unsightly and faced the street, the boards were poorly cut and did not abutt to the vertical posts evenly and there are many nails not properly installed into the wood. I called Jon and we went over the fence He agreed the fence gate was not properly built so he had different worker build a second gate, he replaced many boards that were split, he had the fence lowered and he placed boards over the posts to cover the holes and had a top board installed to create a better cosmetic look. There is a board on the gate that has a big chunk splitting off the board. Jon glued it down and told me if it didn't hold that I should call him in the Spring and he would replace the board. I have called Jon twice and he has not return my calls. The fence looks nice from the street but if you look close you can see the unevenly cut boards, nails poorly hammered into the wood and split boards. The owners response when I showed him the unevenly cut boards and holes was that it was an outside fence and not a piece of furniture. It was my impression that he was not concerned about how poorly the boards were cut as long as the fence looked ok. I feel this company, at first, did not send me top notch workers since it was such a small job and didn't seemed concerned that the quality of the workmanship was substandard.
