They took the time to explain what they were going to and what our options were. They made recommendations, and we had a very pleasant experience in dealing with them.

They were very professional, didn't try to oversell, and did all the work we requested on time and completely. We were especially impressed in that they took multiple samples and carefully examined our Oak trees before recommending treatment -- more thorough than other companies which just looked at the trees from a distance.

It went very well. I continue to trust Top Notch on my property and trust them to do the job well. As in the past, with this job I called to have an arborist come out in the summer to look at the trees and make recommendations and write up an estimate. I then called in the late Summer/early Fall to get scheduled for the actual work. For this job, the work was done early the next year in January . The crew arrived in the morning with the bucket truck and was able to finish by early afternoon. Part of the job involved taking a limb down that was hanging over the roof of the house. This time, as always, the crew worked steadily and cleaned up well (which is a challenge when it's freezing cold and there is snow on the ground). Thank you, Top Notch!
Description of Work: Performed pruning and dead wood removal on four mature oak trees. Performed pruning and raised the crown on one of the four that was adjacent to the street.

The bid was better than the other we received and that was without the Angie's discount (runs through the end of March 09). The owner, Rebecca, did the site visit and bid. She was knowledgeable and professional, and seemed sensitive to our concerns about dealing with a tree that is a significant enhancement to our property and home life. The work crew was timely and efficient, and cleaned up nicely after the cutting work was done. The work appears to have been completed as specified, although spring will tell if any dead branches were missed on the oak. I will update once the stump work has been completed.
Description of Work: Trimmed dead branches from a healthy 100 year old oak, removed a couple of branches that were close to utility lines and removed a mostly dead birch in the front yard. They are also sub-contracting for stump removal, which has not been completed yet.

They are excellent. They are really concerned with their service. The trees look great and they cleaned up after they did the job. They are easy to work with. They are nice people and very accommodating. They did an excellent job. I have a lot of trees in my yard, they did the front path, I asked them to trim the lilac back, which was in the way and they did that for me. The thing I like about them is if you tell to trim or not to trim something or what should be done, they don't force you to spend more money, they give you their honest opinion and let you make the decision.

Last spring we were concerned that a branch on our elm tree was too close to our roof. An arborist from Top Notch came out to check the branch. There was no charge for this. We called the company in fall to have the tree trimmed. We were given an estimate and told the tree would be trimmed in winter. Prior to trimming we were called with a date. The crew arrived on the date and time expected and brought all the necessary equipment. Because our tree is very large and we have a fence they trimmed from the street and the back alley. Given the size of our tree and the difficulty getting to it and the large equipment needed, I believe the cost was reasonable.
Description of Work: A large elm tree which shades 3 sides of our house had a low hanging branch and needed trimming. Top Notch cleaned the crown of the tree, lightened the branches closest to the house and removed dead branches. All debris was removed.

They did a fabulous job. The limb was over 70ft in the air. They were able to remove it from the rest of the tree and bring it down with out damaging anything. They were the only company that I received quotes from that said they could save the tree and remove the large broken limb. I would recommend them to others.

The estimate went fine. I did not use Majestic because of their cost.
Description of Work: I had a Norway Maple that needed to be either trimmed or removed. Majestic responded quickly to my estimate request. Along with suggesting that I remove the tree, they gave me advice as to where and what type of tree I should replace with. I did not choose them because their estimate ($2500) was twice as much as all of my other estimates.

The company was highly recommended by a friend and we were impressed when we met with them. However, one of our apple trees (which appeared to be perfectly healthy) died after the trimming - the company said it was not their fault but I cannot help but wonder if they trimmed it too early in the fall. They were also very expensive relative to other bids, but we went with them since we place a high priority on our landscaping and taking good care of the beautiful mature trees on our lot. They did a good job with clean up, etc. but since we ultimately lost a really nice tree I cannot recommend them.

Overall it went pretty well. My only complaint is related to the grinding of the stump. I did not pay for them to haul away the grindings but when I came home after the first grinding there we wood chips all over my deck. They also had to come back out to re-grind the stump because they didn't go to ground level the first time. They were very apologetic about the wood chips and came out very quickly on the re-grind. Overall fairly pleased.
Description of Work: They assessed the appropriate treatment for our catalpa tree. Unfortunately it needed to be removed. They came out and removed it and grinded the stump.

The crew arrived to do the work as scheduled. They seemed on the young side, but they were professional and convinced us quickly that their experience was more than sufficient. The trimming took three guys about an hour and a half-two were up in the tree most of the time, one on the ground. They also installed a set of three support cables high up in the larger branches, and this seemed to take only minutes. They were friendly and courteous and cleaned up nicely. On the day of the work I didn't have much time to evaluate it, and when I looked at the tree closely a few days later I thought there were a handful of other small branches they could've taken out. Honestly though, I don't know much about tree trimming, and there could have been valid reasons these branches weren't removed.
Description of Work: We recently moved into a house with a huge tree in the yard, and the tree had not received any proper care for several years. This company initially came out to do an estimate on trimming an enormous silver maple tree in our yard. Rebbecca came to evaluate the tree and provide an estimate for the project. She was very professional and knowledgeable, and proposed a few different options for maintenance of the tree. She gave us information about proper care of the tree, and also gave advice based on a structural flaw she noted in the tree. We hired them to do a "moderate trimming" and put in three support cables. We had five or six different companies come out, and we chose this one.

They were prompt, friendly, and professional. Watching them climb the trees was kind of fascinating. Also, my neighbor wanted a tree removed as well and they gave her a discount since they were out at my house already. However, they do not do stump grinding; when they remove a tree, they treat the stump and that's supposed to keep it from sprouting. This didn't work; I now have a sprouting stump where I used to have a scrubby tree, which is very annoying. They did a great job with the tree trimming, though.

Rebecca gave me an estimate for trimming a number of trees that we have, listed by how much per tree. The two apple trees hadn't been trimmed for at least 18 years, maybe more. The workers were professional, timely, and careful. I can tell the trees are healthier this year. We will have them out again this spring, as the apples were so overgrown that they need to be trimmed back gradually.
Description of Work: We had two apple trees trimmed. I can't remember the exact cost, so I guessed on that. Anyway, it seemed reasonable.

I was very impressed with the speed and quality of the service. Because of the proximity to power lines, I was unable to get many people to offer an estimate on the project, but Rainbow did. I am not sure if they worked directly with the power company or were able to work around the power lines effectively, but they did a great job.

I contacted Top Notch due to their advertising on FM 107 and their Angie's list reviews. My original contact was via their website and a consultation was setup via this method. In about a week an arborist visited my home to walk my property, document my trees, and listen to my needs. This went very well and the arborist was very professional and knowledgeable. He recommended action to address my needs. (Clear part of a tree blocking satellite service, clean up additional trees, plan of action for some disease on one of the trees.) We scheduled the activity on the spot for the tree trimming necessary. The minor disease would be addressed by a spraying in the Spring time frame. The time frame quote was for the work to be completed in 3 to 4 weeks as they were in a busy period. They would call prior to coming out the week that they were able to schedule it. After 8 weeks of waiting for them (I am very patient and not in a rush), I called Top Notch to see if I had fallen through the cracks. The receptionist apologized for the wait and would have a scheduling person call me in the next 48 hours. The next day they called and scheduled the job for the next week. When the three men arrived they were prompt in the morning and brought everything necessary for the job. They walked the property with me to ensure that the work order was complete and accurate. They also described how they would do the work and were very informative and courteous. While the work was being performed, I would check in with them from time to time and they were always willing to ensure that my expectations were being met. After the work was completed (about 3.5 hours), they chipped all the branches on site and raked all debris from my yard, probably leaving it cleaner than when they started. Overall, I am very pleased. They were professional and completed the work beyond my expectations. I will also use Top Notch again in the Spring to have some treatments done of a couple of my trees. I believe the scheduling snafu may be related to my proximity to their office. I live in Prior Lake and they most likely kept bumping my work to try and combine it with another outlying job. If I had called sooner to escalate the issue, I'm sure that they would have completed the work sooner.
Description of Work: Had four large adult trees (2 Ash and 2 Maple) trimmed. 3 had their crowns raised and the inside of the tree cleaned of extensive growth. A fourth had extensive trimming done to remove a couple of large branches that were about 6" and 8" in diameter and 70' tall. The three trees would require manual climbing and the fourth would require a cherry picker to complete.

The e-mailed document was very professional and itemized out the tree removal versus stump grinding. Due to the delay in receiving the estimate, and that it was considerably more than other estimates, I chose another company. However, I would consider Majestic in the future.
Description of Work: I e-mailed Majestic on 7-11-08 saying the city sent me a letter that my 37" diseased Elm tree needed to come down by 7-30-08. On 7-17-08 I received a very polite apology for the tardy reply--their e-mail server had been down, but that they could perform the work by the 30th if I chose them. Beth stated she'd be out to my place w/in 2 days to give me an estimate. On 7-28-08 (2 days before the deadline) I receive the e-mailed estimate, including stump grinding.

Rebecca came out a couple of days after I called her. Initially, I was going to have an Ash tree trimmed that had been hit by lightening a couple of years ago. She said that the tree was eventually going to die(20 or 30 years from now), and she suggested cutting it down and planting another one in its place. I told her I didn't want to do that and asked her to trim the tree so it had more of the original shape to it(it's a little cock-eyed from the branch the lightening took out). She said she wouldn't do that because it wouldn't be good for the tree. Her tone was one of "knowing best" and she had no flexibility at all- she knew what was best for the tree and wouldn't do anything else. Because I didn't want just a little bit of the ends taken off (what's the point? it wouldn't change the overall shape of it), and had other work to do, I asked her to give me a bid for trimming back lilac bushes, a pine, and a spruce. She gave me a reasonable bit, and the guys came out a few days later. They did a quick, excellent job of it, and even asked my opinion on their work. I had one suggestion, which they followed up on. They did a great job of cleaning up after themselves, and were respectful to me- oh, and did a good job of trimming everything.
