When Rebecca first came she took a look at all trees in our yard and gave us an over all opinion. For example, she draw my attention to a wild shrub which was bad for the surrounding plants and which she advised us to take out. She also assured us that a young tree which we were worried about was just doing fine. As announced she had come three days after I had called the company, and three days after her visit her team came over to do the job we agreed on; we also were aware of the price already by then. Tony, the arborist, also gave me some advices about the trees. A young tree, for example, was planted too deep and we were told we should remove soil from the top. We were also told that a leave disease we were worried about wasn't that bad as we thought. Then Tony explained what he was going to do. The team worked quickly and cleaned up everything afterward. They did a great job and we learned a lot in addition to that.
Description of Work: They installed a dynamic support system for a big sugar maple which was in danger of splitting in half. They also pruned the same tree in order to relive the parts in danger. Then they pruned a smaller linden tree and reduced competing leaders for better structure.

When the crew arrived to trim my tree they found an active nest of bees in the ground near the gate they were using to access my property. The crew Foreman told me that he was allergic to bees and would trim the tree when the bees were gone. The crew then left. It took several days to get a pest control company out and when they did, the technician identified the bees as solitary Miner Bees. He recommended not doing anything to eradicate them as they are harmless and also an important pollinator. He offered to call Rainbow Tree Care and vouch that the bees were harmless should Majestic not wish to return. In the meantime I had not heard from Majestic since they let several days previously. I still wanted to use them and called to relate what the pest control company had told me and my desire to not exterminate the bees. I talked to Rich in the office and he said that he would have his Foreman call me because he wanted him to hear about the bees directly from me. The Foreman never called, nor did I hear back from Rich so I called back several days later to check in. He said that they were going to be in the neighborhood the following day and were planning to finish the job then (I would have appreciated some advance warning). Indeed when I returned home from work the tree was trimmed. The crew did a very nice job and cleaned everything up after themselves including a pile of branches I had collected unrelated to their work. All in all, they did a very nice job. I feel badly that I didn't notice the bees ahead of time and saved everybody a trip. I also understand the technician's concern regarding the bees and his safety. My only quibble with this experience was the spotty communication from Majestic. It would have been helpful for me had they called after they departed with an update and what they needed in order to proceed. In the end the work was done satisfactorily, but I felt like I was required to keep moving it along.

The work went very well. The branch had fallen between the pool and the adjacent fence. I went to work with a large mess in the backyard and came home to having all the work done and everything was cleaned up. The only evidence they had even been there was that the work had been completed. The Hackberry that had lost a limb still had 2 other large limbs from a common junction. The other companies that had provided quotes that included complete removal of the Hackberry. Rebbecca told us it would continue to rot but we could probably keep it for another 8-10 years before we need to remove the remainder of the tree. Since this tree is the only shade for most of our backyard we decided to go with Majestic and have them remove a portion of the tree but keep the remainder. Rebbecca was even able to provide some advice on how close we could plant a new tree now so we have a shade tree when the existing one needs to be removed. I am very pleased with the work as well as Rebecca's advice.
Description of Work: Majestic removed a branch that had fallen off our Hackberry during a storm, removed the remainder of the branch from the tree, add cables to other our Hackberry tree and pruned out deadwood and pruned a Hawthorne tree.

I found them on Angie's List with high marks. Asked them for an estimate to remove several trees. They told me they were very busy, but could come out in a few days. I made an appointment. They showed up a little late, but did call. Estimator was very informative and gave me good advice on which trees needed removed. However, 3 weeks later and still no estimate. I have had similar experiences with other tree removal services. Basically, if they are busy and you are not the type of customer that doesn't need to ask how much, then you go way down on the priority list. I am thinking that it is almost better to find the cheapest removal service you can find and forget the reputation part.
Description of Work: No work was performed because they never gave me an estimate, even after coming out to the property and evaluating it.

I chose Majestic because they were a Minneapolis company, and their website suggested they were good at cutting down trees in tight circumstances. I sent them email, they came out the next day and drew up a map, and gave me an estimate. They said they would try and not crush my Burning Bush, and it came out unscathed. Overall they did a good job. Two small concerns. They left a couple of deep holes in the lawn, but I suspect this is their effort to save my burning bush, so I can hardly complain about that. The other, I asked they leave some of the logs for fire pit. They left both elm, and maple. The city came by and cited us for the elm. After some email exchanges Majestic came out and removed the elm so it was all good. Overall B+, had it not been for the city/elm issue I'd give them a POH.

Rebecca (the owner) came out to give us an estimate. We agreed on the estimate and waited about a week and a half to hear when her crews would be out. They cancelled on their scheduled day because of the late snowstorm that blew in, but rescheduled with us in a matter of days. When the crew came out to perform the work, it was amazing to watch. From start to finish, it took them just about an hour. They were very skilled in maneuvering among the trees. Three guys worked on the two trees to be pruned, while the fourth was constantly clearing brush out of the way. When the three were finished, they helped clear brush away while the fourth climbed the ash, cutting down branches as he went. It was all disposed of on the spot with a wood chipper, and they even swept/raked the driveway to clean up any spills. They left our backyard cleaner than they found it! They were super-efficient, friendly, knowledgeable, and hardworking. We were very pleased.
Description of Work: They performed a full fine prune on our apple tree -- a balance between aesthetics and fruit production. They also completed a partial prune on our silver maple that raised the canopy several feet and cleared branches away from the neighboring apple. Then they took down our ash tree. They even removed the old tire from around the base of the ash, in order to cut the tree down to the ground. We were planning on helping with that, but they took care of it for us! The stump grinding for the ash will be done in about a week, for an additional fee which was quoted in our estimate.

Rebecca came by and quickly and expertly gaged our tree's health and suggested treatment. She also pointed out a tree with serious structural and rot problems on our property and talked about the care of our lilac bush and a young maple in the front yard. We were surprised and grateful to learn so much about our trees. We elected not to deal with the problematic ash tree this year, but Tony and his crew arrived a week or so later to prune the maple. They took care not to damage tender spring plants in the yard and worked for at least two hours and cleaned up thoroughly. Tony gave us a lot of useful information about the tree, as well as other plants on our property. Poor trimming in the past has made our tree vulnerable, so we are very happy that we opted to have this work done.

We recently bought a new house in St. Paul and had always used Top Notch for our tree care at our previous home. We knew that our new house came with an old (very large) tree that would need to be removed, but we had no idea how difficult that would actually be. Long story short, we only received two bids on the removal, and since we had previous (and positive) experience with Top Notch, we accepted their bid. The work (which required completely disconnecting power to our house) was completed, but only after our arborist failed to make the appropriate arrangements for the removal the first time around (and seemed to be out of town whenever we needed him). When the removal finally took place, the workers dropped part of the tree on our garage. Top Notch eventually paid for the repairs, but given the difficulties we had with the work, start to finish, we felt that they should have provided additional compensation, especially with such a disruptive project.

I called for a estimate and the next day Rebecca came to my home to give me a estimate. Rebecca informed me of what a rare Ironwood tree I have in my yard that I thought had to be trimmed way back, she told me it only needed a fine pruning and explained exactly what that they would do. Rebecca also included a tree that needed to be cut down. I called her later in the day to tell her to go ahead with the work (the estimate was below what others wanted) the next day I came home and all the work was done, with not a branch left behind. A sub comes out to grind the stump. I noticed on the work order she wrote for the workers to be careful climbing the tree as it was probably the largest in the city. I appreciated her knowledge, and taking the extra time to explain everything to me.

We noticed our Honey Locust tree was infested with small insects. When I called for an estimate, they were very knowledgeable and were able to identify the insects and recommend a chemical treatment to save the tree in addition to the pruning we needed. A separate person came and treated the tree. He pierced our underground sprinkler system when he was treating the tree. Majestic paid the small price to have my sprinkler service come and repair the leak. The tree trimming crew was amazing. They worked very quickly, knew exactly what to do and cleaned up every last stick and branch from the yard and our rooftop. We were very happy with the experience.

This tree was damaged in a storm in the spring of 2005, when a large limb was torn off, ripping off a long strip of barb. We had the tree serviced as best we could then, but by the spring of 2007, it was clear from all the woodpecker activity that the tree had problems. We had 5 tree services examine the tree. They were unanimous in their recommendation: this tree had to go. Majestic was the lowest bid and they only one that proposed a removal method that would not tear up the lawn. We were very pleased with their performance as they did the removal exactly as promised.
Description of Work: They cut down a dying oak tree, sending men up the tree and cutting it down piece by piece. The pieces were hauled out to their truck in the street following a path through the unimproved portion of our lot, thus preventing damage to the lawn. About a week later, they sent out a crew to grind the stump.

I requested estimates from 3 companies for removal of the large Silver Maple. I chose Majestic Tree because of the cost and their pro-activeness and rationale about considering the removal of additional trees (would grow large and present problems, plus already encroaching on Xcel lines). I felt like Rebecca/Majestic Tree was looking out for my interests. Even with the additional tree removals, the cost was more competitive than the other companies. Rebecca communicated in advance of the scheduled date (within 2 weeks of estimate); the crew placed signs on the road the day before; the work was done within the estimated time; the yard/home was spotless when I returned from work. I noticed the stump was still there so I called the following day to find out if that work is performed at a later time; I was informed within 5 days. The estimate did not include removal of stump grinding, or backfilling with topsoil; that can be added on. I haven't decided yet.
Description of Work: 39" diameter Silver Maple removed from front yard, including stump grinding; an additional 4 smaller trees (approximately 5" diameter) removed from back yard. Tree removals performed on October 25.

Great. Getting an appointment set up took a little long, but they were responsive. I knew from experience that they would follow through. She has always seemed knowledgeable about her work and provided options when appropriate.

Discussed project with arborist Beth, including preservation of large Maple and clearing roof of impinging branches from both trees. Beth gave me handwritten bids for various options, showing a map of my property. I accepted the two options shown above. Beth told me that the cost might run higher if decay was found during work but, I m happy to say, none was. Crew arrived promptly, worked quickly, cleaned up beautifully. Co-owner, Rebecca, stopped by during the work, at which time I pointed out the light branches growing near my roof, which I expected to be raised. They were. When I got the bill, I was surprised to find price increase of $125. Later, Rebecca said the extra was for raising the light branches. But Beth and I had specifically discussed these and no one told me their trimming would cost extra. I asked for and received a corrected bill for the original amount. Rebecca gave me advice for treating regrowth and a bid for grinding stump.
