It went great. The plumber that arrived was very polite and accommodating. First I showed him the leaking valve and he took 30 seconds to show me how to tighten it and explained how/why it was leaking. It was simple and I now have the knowledge to do it myself for the next 60 years. We moved on to the pipe that had a tendency to backup (about every year or two). The last few times I had it snaked they told me where the trouble was and what I should do to fix it. These were more basic companies that just dealt with blocked drains, not replacing pipe. That's what Weld and Sons was primarily called out to do. We walked through our options and pricing on each option. There was no pressure from him to choose one over the other. He was just clear in explaining the pros and cons of each and let me make the decision. He did the work within an hour or so and it has been working great since. Before he left he also gave me tips on how to prevent future drain issues. I have an old 1918 home and I put a garbage disposal in. Where some plumbers told me that I shouldn't have done that, this plumber explained that it was fine and how I could take preventative maintenance steps in the future to keep it flowing smoothly. He was a tremendous help!
Description of Work: Cut out a section of old galvanized steel that was getting backed up every year or two and replaced it with PVC. Also tightened a loose valve to the outdoor spigot.

I am extremely happy with the work and professionalism and timeliness of Weld & Songs. I contacted them in the morning and they were able to come out to the house by noon the same day. Ben P., the service agent, was very professional and answered all the questions I had and was very knowledgeable in handling the problem. He also cleaned up after the work was completed. I will definitely use Weld & Sons again for my future drain / plumbing needs.

Weld and Sons were very professional and came in with the lowest bid. They showed up on time and even cleaned up any of the drywall dust for holes they needed to create for the plumbing. It was a large job and they had a team in to complete it in a day. My only complaint is that there is an additional drywall hole that was needed, which was not told to us ahead of time. We would definiately hire them again!

Review updated with sump pump in action after heavy rainfall (01-June-2014, flash flood warning in Bloomington). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMpeNh9X_MQ They are professional and reasonably priced. Bottom line: They charged me $720 for a job WELL DONE that Plumb Right wanted ~$1400 for. My primary sump pump went out and I initially contacted Plumb Right to (PR) install a new pump. I wanted to replace my failed 1/2 HP sump pump with the same HP pump. PR came and told me that they only carried 1/3 HP sump pump (which is common). PR charges based on a "simple" 3 tier pricing scheme.....standard (~$700), deluxe ($1000) and premium (~$1500). Typically, for a 1/3 HP pump install, without piping, they would charge the standard rate. Deluxe is for a back up pump install only while the premium includes both the primary and backup pump install. They considered my 1/2 HP sump pump request as unusual and told me that they will need to charge me deluxe pricing (and that I have wait for the next day because they don't have it in stock anyway). I would have been ok if they only wanted to charge me $100 more because the more expensive pump (from a M53 Zoeller to a BN98 Zoeller). I really didn't like PR's "itune-like tier pricing" strategy because I know that the labor involved in installing a 1/3 Sump Pump is about the same as 1/2 HP sump pump. I don't see a reason to pay $300 just because it is not their "standard" offer. I contacted Weld & Sons (WS) the next day. TIm, the warehouse manager was very prompt and answered all my questions. Tim confirmed that 1/3 HP is most common for residential but they can get 1/2 HP Zoeller (BN98) as well. After getting confirmation from his distributor, he called me back right away and setup an appointment. Tim also explained to me clearly how they charge (hourly), which I was ok with. He gave me an estimate based on what I wanted done. The upcharge on the 1/2 HP pump was also reasonable (I can google the pricing myself). The next day, Clyde (WS's employee) came and he was punctual, professional and well spoken. He was straight forward and let me know what needed to be done. Since they charge hourly, he allowed me to help any tasks that make sense for me to help and that I feel comfortable with. As an example, with Clyde's direction, I sawed off my existing piping myself while he setup the new pump. Everything was done within 2.25 hours (and they go by 1/4 hr increment after the first hour) and I was billed and charged accordingly. WS proved me right - it doesn't cost more labor to install a 1/2 HP pump than a 1/3 HP pump. The only difference should be in the pump price and its "mark up," which shouldn't be 2-3X of the 1/3 HP pump. WS got the job done to my satisfaction at half the price of BR. Don't get me wrong, BR appears to be quite reputable as well on Angie's list. However, different strokes for different folks. Labor is a big part of a plumbing job and charging "tier pricing" didn't work for me. My recommendation: If you want your plumbing job to be done right at the right price, call WS!
Description of Work: Installed 1/2HP BN98 Zoeller sump pump (Primary pump), re-piped with 2" pipe, and connected to my existing back up pump. Review updated with sump pump in action after heavy rainfall (01-June-2014, flash flood warning in Bloomington). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMpeNh9X_MQ

Don and his team were very responsive in getting us an estimate. The unfortunate part is the estimate to do the work was $11,000. We have since worked with another master plumber whom did the job for $2,500. This is an apples to apples comparison except that the new plumber has already completed the rough in and passed inspection in under a week. Pricing here was way outrageous!

Kevin did a great job of figuring out what needed to be done. He explained clearly the issues and showed me the broken shut-off faucet afterward so that I knew why it was broken, and explained about the newer plumbing that was installed. Very clear and thorough, and made sure there wasn't a wet mess left behind. He brought his own towels and buckets. He was friendly, clear and concise.

The experience was great. They were able to provide service on the afternoon I requested, with a two-hour service window. Ben Pullis was on time and very courteous. In addition to the specific service I had originally scheduled for a clogged sink drain, he also cleared the bathtub train and pulled some debris from the kitchen disposal. All considered, it was a great use of the visit, since there was a one-hour minimum expense.

We were very pleased with what Weld & Sons Plumbing did. They got us a new water heater, that it is for no charge and we just had to pay for the labors and we were pleased with them. In fact, that they were willing to go ahead and called Ao Smith that made the water heater and they are able to get us a new one, we never had to bill anything at all and we got another company and they weren't even bothered doing that.

The office lady called me back as she needed to check on schedules and said Ben Pullis could come out that same day. Mr. Pullis showed up on time and spent about 15 to 20 minutes snaking out the drain. He explained the process and what he was doing so that was nice. He did a wonderful job and we are all set now. I would definitely call Weld & Sons for future plumbing needs. Keep up the great work!

I performed a routine test of my existing sump pump, which was installed when the home was built 10 years ago. It didn't work so I decided to have it replaced instead of repaired due to its age and type of sump pump (i.e. plastic casing). I looked on Angie's List for options to replace it and selected Weld & Sons based on their reviews and that they have the fish symbol on their website showing me that they are Christians. The appointment was scheduled between 7:30 and 8:00; so Clyde called me and left a message that he might be late due to traffic. He arrived just a few minutes late, but I appreciated the call. He got to work right away installing a cast iron Zoeller Sump Pump (model M53). Clyde was also patient as my 5 year-old son, who was home that day from school, was asking questions about what he was doing. Clyde finished up the work in the time expected and cleaned up. The sump pump works well.

Called for service Friday night and got appointment for Saturday morning. This was okay as I had the water turned off in the basement so the pipe was no longer leaking. The plumber, Manny, was prompt, polite and skilled. Fixed pinhole leak in pipe, was clean and did a great job. Had to cut and remove section of copper pipe with hole, fit new piece and solder. Was fast and efficient. Had time left in the hour (bill by the hour) and helped with a leaky faucet in the bathroom. Was quoted a price before hand for the weekend at 1.5x their regular price. The bill was for the rate that was quoted the night before; no surprises. Would not hesitate to use them again.
