It went extremely well. We were added to the schedule late in the patio installation season, so we weren't scheduled to have any work performed prior to August. An opening in the schedule came up and we jumped on it. From start to finish probably took them around 12-16 hours. It was hotter than h*** the day they started, but they powered through it. After everything was done, Debbie followed up later in the week to do a final walkthrough of the project with us, inform us about maintenance, and ask if we had any further questions for her about the work done. Work Performed: cut out existing sod placed 5+ inches of class 2 sand installed 12' x 12' natural Chilton pavers installed 2' border of river rock (and landscape cloth underneath) installed plastic edging around perimeter of patio setup set 5 stepper stones in the grass from back steps leading to the patio raked out mulch in front yard, leveled ground, installed new sod
Description of Work: Complete install of a 12' x 12' chilton natural paver patio with 2' border of river rocks. Also raked out and added new sod to front yard where a tree stump was previously ground out.

Thank you so much for the review - I am glad you are both enjoying your patio. Tell Maja that I tried the Brats she recommended and I am hooked.
Debbie came over twice before giving us an estimate. On the second visit she brought an employee who used a lazer device to help determine the corners of the new patio taking into account our uneven yard and tree roots which had grown under the old patio. Thus, we were very clear about what work would be done. The standard size for pavers had changed since our patio was first installed. Alex, who led the paver work, came up with an attractive pattern which allowed for reuse of our existing pavers along with some new 'standard sized' pavers which were needed to complete the job. We were kept informed of the status daily. We felt that their crew does very good quality work and are very happy with our new patio.
Description of Work: Removed the pavers and retaining wall of an existing patio which had become very uneven over the years which resulted in rain water being directed back toward the house. Rebuilt the base for the wall and patio and reset the wall and pavers so water drains away from the house.

Debbie called to confirm a couple of days before, and then never showed up for our appointment. I called her office, and then never received a follow up call. During our confirmation call she seemed uninterested in the work, asking me if I had gotten other stonework quotes, to which I responded yes. If you don't want to give a quote, don't make an appointment and then not show up.
Description of Work: Supposed to stop for a quote.

I am very sorry. Missing the appointment was not intentional.
Debbie stopped by and net with us beforehand and provided detailed plans and an estimate within two days of her visit. Her crew arrived when she said they would and spent several days digging up our yard and placing the stonework and mulch. She called us to notify us that they couldn't come out one day (due to heavy rain) and was quite responsive to our questions. Her crew was polite and professional (our neighbors were wowed) and cleaned up after themselves at the end of the week. The final Bill came in with $100 or so of the estimate and the yard looks gorgeous! Debbie came out a week later and walked us through some planting options, then came back the next day to add the shrubs we wanted.
Description of Work: The landscaped our entire front yard, including removing the timber walls which had started to rot, and replaced them with stonework. They had to level off several sections of the yard and work their way through tree roots (and a hornet's nest we didn't know about). Debbie (the owner) came back out at our request and consulted with us before adding some lovely new plantings.

They were there on time and removed old paver bricks and finisher the project in 2 days. After they were done a noticed a low spot that needed to be redone. They were out the next day and corrected the problem. The guys were very nice and polite, Debbie was easy to get a hold off and responded within 12 hours of contacting her. I definitely recommend Twin City Landscape.
Description of Work: Had them come out to remove a 15 year old paver sidewalk that was not level anymore due to tree roots and add a patio.

Debbie was great at responding to questions, creating a design and then adjusting plans to address my thoughts. She listened well to get the best fit for me. Also recommended some really nice choices in plants for surrounding area. Alex led the paver patio work and did excellent work. He was also really good at capturing the design I was hoping to get. Very pleasant to work with also.

I called and left a voicemail. Voicemail was returned the next day. I was informed that I was "out of their service area" despite their service area being listed as the "entire area" and despite there being reviews on band of neighbors that are further away in the NE Metro. I live .5 miles outside the 694/494 loop, so I don't consider that very far out. Please make sure your angies list page is correct, so I don't waste time on your website investigating your services.

Debbie and her crew were great! She came out to the house to discuss what I wanted to do - and was far more interested in what I actually wanted than in what she thought I should want. We exchanged drawings and made a trip to the landscaper supply to look at stone. When what I decided upon turned out to be special order, that was no problem. Start of work was delayed due to the atrocious weather, but once started, they did a great job. One of my neighbors even commented on how courteous & friendly the work crew was when I was at work. They were very responsive to any comments or concerns I had while the work was ongoing, and always left the work area tidy at the end of the day. (the project took about a week) I could not be happier with the process or the result, and spent a significant part of the summer enjoying my new space. It is beautiful and the work is excellent. I will definitely be calling Debbie again as I continue to upgrade my property!
Description of Work: Dug out old (small & ugly) patio and install very large (roughly a third of my back yard is now patio) new patio including walkways and edging for garden beds.

Thanks so much for the review. I will make sure to pass it onto the guys. We enjoyed working at your place. It was so fun seeing the whole yard come together. Hope you enjoy the margaritas!!
beforeThe work crew arrived on time and worked diligently digging out by hand the sod and roots of the bushes that had been there previously. They were careful not to walk on or damage flowers that were in a garden in front of the patio area. They took care to make the patio slope away from the house so that rainwater wouldn't pool around the foundation, and as described above routed the downspout under the patio so that rainwater will drain into the yard. They hauled away the dirt and did a good job of cleaning up after themselves. The crew was polite, worked hard, and the finished patio looks great! It's a huge improvement from the overgrown bushes that were there before!
Description of Work: Installed a front patio. This included removing 7" of dirt and roots of bushes that had been there from the patio area; installing underlayment cloth; sand; and pavers. They also installed an extension of the downspout, which involved digging a tunnel under the sidewalk and routing a flexible downspout discharge tube under the patio and sidewalk so that it will drain into the yard.

This was a really smooth process. Debbie Petschl, Owner, immediately grasped the concept we had in mind. She emailed an overall plan, several color views and an estimate in a few days. She was open to some minor changes in the plants of two varieties I wasn't sure about the ease of care and was willing to use plants she chose that I already had in my garden. She also understood the concept of a mixed media border around the gardens adding to some bricks I already had on hand. Other than those small details, we went entirely with her concept. Her crew arrived on time and were pleasant to work with. They replaced the topsoil with black dirt and covered the bed with dark shredded wood, chose some boulders and stepping stones, and planted all the plants including transplanting one variety I already had. We were particularly pleased with Debbie's choice of additional materials for the brick and stone border because the size and color had variation and visual interest. The boulders she chose were also visually interesting in color and texture. All during the process, Debbie's employees communicated and asked questions and Debbie kept in touch. Finally, they did a thorough clean-up and Debbie came to be sure everything was in order. The final result added visual interest and curb appeal to a space that was very boring and unattractive. Debbie explained they do a spring follow-up to be sure all the plants survived the winter, replace any that didn't make it, give them a spring fertilizing and gave me instructions about how to care for the garden the rest of the summer to give it a healthy start.
Description of Work: Twin City Landscape designed and created a garden in my front yard incorporating a barren area left by a tree removal. They also installed a brick and stone mowing strip around existing garden in the front of the house and the north side.

Debbie did a paver patio behind my house. It was appropriately sloped so water doesn't run into the house and looks beautiful. It took only 3 days and they dug it out with shovels and cared for my trees that got some roots cut off in the process. She said they treated all the roots so that the trees don't die. I'm glad I found her as my other option was a guy that wanted to use a bobcat, and as Debbie explained, a bobcat would not treat tree roots very nicely.

I called Debbie to get someone to come out for an estimate - in my message I left her know some of the details of the bid and that I would like to get the work done ASAP due to the fact that I have a two year old and my family would like to use the yard this summer. Debbie called right away to tell me they were currently booking out jobs months in advance (I literally called at the worst time - Spring - to book a Landscaper) Debbie said based on the details of the job I provided in my VM message she suggested I call a "sub" of hers who might be able to get to the job right away. She assured me they would do a good job. Well that crew just left and they did a wonderful job. I am pleased with the work and now think even higher of Debbie and Twin City Landscape. They showed true customer service by giving me an honest answer about TC Landscape timelines and suggesting another company so I could enjoy my yard sooner. I have already suggested Twin City Landscape to a few friends and will call again when we want a new look on our front landscape. If this is the type of crew Twin City Landscape uses customers are in good hands. Thank you Debbie.
Description of Work: I called to get an estimate for a quick backyard re-do. Tear out the existing "grass" till up the compacted soil. bring in new dirt and sod. Pretty straight forward - standard Minneapolis lot.

We are very pleased with the quality of the work for all the new hardscaping. Debbie provided great design ideas and helped us create a great new backyard outdoor space. We are less pleased with the extent to which Twin City Landscape addressed regrading the backyard. Because the new patio is raised, we believe we will no longer have standing water close to the house during winter / spring thaws. (Could not tell this last winter because the thaw was slow.) However, during spring rains this year, we had water pooling just off the patio and had to fill this in with dirt and slope it properly. The new patio also has some low areas where water pools, so it is not graded downward away from the house as well as we would have liked. During the construction, we had to intervene to remind the crew to address the grading issue. They had to redo a portion of the paver by the steps so water would not pool in a corner. We also had to remind them to regrade the back of the house that did not have the paver stones. We felt that Twin Cities Landscape was not as responsive to our regrading concerns as they should have been. And we could not be there to oversee the construction since we had to work. In addition to the grading concerns, they left a messy work site. We have spent many hours picking up rocks they left around the paver patio and in a side yard where they did some of the work. They left small piles of dirt on top of the grass at the front curb where they unloaded. We picked up 10 steel pikes from the back yard. Because Twin Cities Landscape did not put enough focus on our regrading issues and because they left a mess for us to clean up, we would look for a different firm to do any future hardscape work.
Description of Work: We had standing water in the back yard during winter/spring thaws that was seeping into the basement. We needed to have the back yard re-graded to slope away from and around the house. We had to redo an existing paver patio in order to fix the grade. Twin Cities Landscape: - Removed existing back yard paver patio and installed new patio at raised grade. - Removed existing wood porch and replaced with paver steps. - Blocked in window well with glass block. - Regraded one side of the back to slope away from the house. (no paver patio in this ares) - Created a paver walkway around one side of the back of the house. - Removed existing side paver patio and replaced at new grade.

This is our second landscaping project that Twin City Landscape has completed for us, and we continue to be very satisfied and impressed with their work. Debbie is very responsive, and her quotes are always reasonable. Her workers show up on time, are good communicators and do great work. We already had some paving stones that her crew used to pave where we store our garbage cans. The area is next to our driveway, so it was important that the stones slope so water flows away and does not collect anywhere. The slope is very subtle, and works great when it rains. They also installed a very small boulder wall because the area cuts into a hill. A piece of the project was to clean up where we plan to have a fire pit. They leveled the area, removed 7? of dirt and sod, installed underlayment cloth, and then added sand and rocks/pebbles. When they were ready to lay down the four, very large paving stones where we would place the fire pit, they made sure I was there so I could tell them where they should go. I?ll continue to use Twin City Landscape in the future and have not been disappointed.
Description of Work: They laid some paving stones, and finished our fire pit area.

Debbie and her crew were excellent. Debbie provided an estimate within the same week that I called, and was able to schedule the work in between two other projects we were doing. One of those projects was installing a fence along the same property line where the retaining wall was being replaced, and they worked with the company installing the fence to make sure the location of the fence posts would be as close to the retaining wall (and property line) as possible. Debbie's crew completed the work over two days in really cold weather. The first day they removed the old wall, dug out the locations for the fence posts, and began laying the new retaining wall. Overnight, my neighbor expressed concerns about the location of the wall (she felt it was on her property, though I think it was right on the line and in the exact location of the old wall). When they returned in the morning, the crew talked with her about her concerns, took responsibility for the location, and got her to agree to moving the wall 6 inches towards my yard. They finished up the work that day, did not charge me anything extra for the additional time, and it looks great. I plan to call them this spring for help with landscaping in our front yard.

I'd heard good things about Twin City Landscape, and e-mailed them about the installation of a rock garden and walkway on September 5. No response, so I sent them a message via Angie's List on September 8. No response to that either. I contacted Angie's List for advice and ended up working with Garden Solutions & Design -- which I was very happy with -- but Twin City Landscape never responded to my messages. What's up with that?

Actually, I would give Debbie, Matt and the rest of the crew an A+. Matt, Eric, Jim, Paul, (I am blanking on the other two, sorry) did excellent work, were pleasant and thorough. They were great to work with. Pictures are of the not quite completed project.
Description of Work: Twin City Landscape extended three existing retaining walls, built steps, and built a sidewalk from the front yard to the steps which lead to the back yard. The project took about two weeks.
We had a cement slab removed and white rocks that the previous home owner had used instead of mulch. Charlie and his crew built a patio, and steps and landing for our back door. They also reused our bricks to build borders for landscaping around the house. They placed stepping stones on one side of the house and they applied grass seeds and sod where needed. They also put in a garden next to the patio. We had originally planned to have them prepare garden beds and we were going to do the landscaping. After seeing the great work that they did, we decided to have them do all the landscaping as well. Everything looks great - the patio, steps, garden and the entire yard. We are considering to hire them for the front yard once the sewer work is completed.
Description of Work: Debbie gave us an estimate on a new patio and walkway, and steps for the front and the back of the house. Debbie envisioned a design that incorporated our ideas, the character of the neighborhood and the era of the house (1914). We really like the 3-D drawings that she sent to us. They gave us a much better idea how the finished project would look. We decided to wait with the front yard since we will have to get some sewer work done first. Charlie was the site supervisor and he and his crew did a great job. They were communicating well with us and they had some great ideas along the way that didn't even increase the costs of the project. They had picked the hottest and most humid week of year to start the project, but they worked hard and didn't complain.

Debbie and the crew were great to work with, and the patio looks fantastic! Debbie came out for the initial consultation. She followed up with a sketch of the layout, 3d models of the design, and a detailed quote. Once we hired TC Landscape, she helped us pick out our materials at the landscape center. Debbie addressed all of our biggest concerns - first and foremost, access to our city yard. Her crew was able to do the work using wheelbarrows and did not need to use a bobcat. This minimized the impact to our yard, and meant we didn't need to take out trees or fence panels to give them access. Paul was our site supervisor. He did a great job figuring out how to resolve drainage and height issues for the patio, by putting in a window well and retaining wall that weren't part of the original design. Whenever issues came up through the process, he ran them by us to get our input. The crew was excellent! They worked hard to get the job done within a week. The yard was left clean and in good condition. We love our new patio, and have gotten many complements on it from friends & family.
Description of Work: -Demolish and remove 150 square foot deck. -Install 300 square foot paver patio with stoop, 19' curved sit wall and 7' retaining wall. -Install clay paver edging around garden beds (we dug up and reused the pavers from our own yard).

Deb and the crew were pleasant and reasonably professional (except some crew members smoked and it wafted in our windows). The foremen were pleasant young men who were good with the homeowner and their crew. However, the communication between Deb and the foremen and between the 2 foremen was not very good at all. We spent lots of time going over details--the pavers are to be this color, this is where we want the patio to be and what shape, this is how high we want the retaining wall, this is the placement of the path, here's how we will deal with the irrigation system, etc. All were explained to the Deb originally and then to the 1st foreman. Well, he only worked the first day. We assumed that the information was passed along, but most of it wasn't, so we ended up having to explain many things all over again. And stuff we had assumed were written down and passed along by Deb, never were, so there were also things that got messed up that way. It not only made the process somewhat painful, but some things just didn't get done quite the way we wanted. For example, the patio border was to be done with 2 different size pavers, but ended up all one size (which resulted in a not-quite-as-smooth as it could have been border). Also the 1st foreman told us they would leave the leftover pavers for our use, yet they got taken away and dumped. By the time they got around to planting, Deb was onto other projects so I had to help them figure out where to plant. So there was very little value in the design services. I could have just hired someone to build the patio and done the planing myself. In the end the patio looks nice and the plantings reasonably healthy. I would give them a "C"
Description of Work: They planned and installed a patio and plantings to replace an area where grass would not grow.
We are extremely happy with our decision to partner with Twin Cities Landscape on the installation of our backyard patio. We interviewed several of the top-ranking landscape companies listed on Angie?s List, but within minutes of our first meeting with Debbie, we knew TC Landscape was the company for us. Debbie is knowledgeable, succinct, a good listener, and was able to take our general idea of what we wanted in a patio and bring it to life. She was very patient with us during the design phase and helped us to stay within our budget while making the most of our space. She met with us several times and provided great direction on not only the landscaping products, but the patio design and solutions to some of the tricky aspects to our project ? such as grading issues and the need to work around our previously-installed fence and pergola. Matt, the foreman, took the time to answer any and all questions we had and led a very hard-working team who are all very talented, precise, and approachable. They had an eye for the details and transformed our general idea of the patio into a work of art. They took the time to do the job right, cleaned up at the end of every shift, and were very friendly and polite to not only ourselves, but to our neighbors as well. We are more than satisfied with their work and professionalism. In summary, we would not only recommend Twin Cities Landscape to our friends and family, but we would also work with them again in a heartbeat. Thank you Twin Cities Landscape for the amazing job!

Deb and her team did a phenomenal job on our yard. When we first did a walk through in May, our yard was full of random plants and weeds left over by the previous owners. Twin City Landscape removed all of the old plants, treated them with Round Up and revitalized our front yard. In addition to all the work in the front, we made a decision mid-way through the project to replace our railings in the front of the house. Deb was really flexible, we sent over a sketch of what we were thinking and when we came home one day there were beautiful wood railings in front of our home. Finally, Deb and her team installed a new brick paver patio in the back of our house with a herring bone pattern. I expected it to take longer than it did but her team had it done in about 2 or 3 days. It looks great and we can't wait to show it off. Through out the entire project Deb did a great job helping us understand everything and it was great to have someone so knowledgable and professional handle our project. It goes without saying that I would recommend Deb to anyone looking to do any or all of these projects. We will be calling Deb again in a couple years to finish the back yard for us.
