I called Twin City Landscape on a Friday, and scheduled an estimate for following Wednesday. When Debbie, the owner, arrived for the estimate, I explained that I only had a broad sense of what I wanted, basically to update the look of the yard to increase my curb appeal for plans to sell my home the following spring. She gave me some suggestions as we did a walk through of my yard, she took measurements, and said she'd get me an estimate within my stated budget within a couple of days. Sure enough, early Friday morning I found the estimate in my email, loved what I saw, and called her to make arrangements. As luck would have it, she had a scheduling change that opened up the following Monday (otherwise she was booked into early the following month). Debbie and her crew arrived before 8 am Monday morning and didn't waste any time getting to work. By the time I got home from work around 5:30, they had the tarp and new rock down on the side driveway, all of the old plants and borders pulled out, and probably 80 to 90% of the plants in. They finished the job by 1 pm the next day. So from the initial phone call to project completion, it took less than 1.5 weeks (granted, it was the aforementioned fortune of scheduling). In addition to the initial project, Debbie was also willing to take on some additional work based on a decision I made on the fly Monday morning. Initially I was only going to have her cover the old, weed-ridden driveway, but she gave me the option of having the old rock scraped down, tarped, etc, as well. She figured it would be $300, which still kept things in my budget of $5,000. I was also pleasantly surprised to find on Tuesday that they had used leftover brick and mulch to put a border around a small silver maple which wasn't part of the original estimate or plan, and mulched a couple of other problematic bare spots in the yard. Upon completion, Debbie did another walk through with me to make sure I was satisfied with the work, explained what I would need to do to maintain the plants, and also said they would return in the spring, check on the plants, and replace any that didn't make it through the winter free of charge. We'll see how everything fares through the winter, but all in all, my yard looks amazing! And I'm sure potential buyers will agree. Once I move, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to hire Debbie and her crew to work their magic on our new home, as well.
Description of Work: Tore out existing river rock, plants, bushes, and border along the length of the front of the house, front yard trees, and the length of the back of the house and replaced with an updated stone border, myriad perennials, and mulch than extended around the side of the yard. Also removed old, dirty, weed-ridden rock from a side driveway, laid down tarp to prevent weed growth, and covered it with fresh river rock.

Contacted Debbie during the winter about this project. Communication throughout the months until completion in July was excellent. She was very responsive and detailed in her estimate. As spring came and the snow melted, I added a bit more to the project; and that was no problem whatsoever. Scheduling was perfect. The crew that she sent out was terrific. They were hardworking, quiet (music, but no crazy music, and at a reasonable volume), respectful (actually kept me informed about the progress, plans for the next day, information relayed to them from Debbie), tidy (clean-up was great). Debbie also told us that as a matter of course, they will contact us next year and make sure there are no problems with the patio (e.g., heaving, cracking, etc.); and to keep them apprised in the meantime if problems come up.
Description of Work: Trenched natural edge and mulched perennial beds. Removed old concrete patio. Installed new paver patio and pavers at base of steps (dirt removal, add underlayment cloth, sand, etc.). Removed old window wells and installed new wells. Removed plastic edging and sod, and install paver bullet edger along the house, line with landscape cloth and river rock.

We originally contacted Twin City Landscape around early September 2007, when heavy rains began washing out a section of our retaining wall near the deck supports. Debbie came out to assess the situation. Her price was significantly less than the only other contractor who would actually provide us with a bid. (Our site was extremely challenging, with no access for equipment.) With her pricing, it was easier for us to consider replacing the patio at the front entry. However, we only had one income at the time. Debbie told us she felt the wall would hold through the winter. She informed us that we could call her if the condition worsened and she'd do whatever she could to stabilize things...even though we hadn't hired her at that point! Debbie checked back with us in February and, at our request, came out to review the project again. After hiring her, she promptly provided material samples and gave us tentative start dates. The dates were dependent on road restrictions being lifted. We received occasional updates from her on timing and materials for each project. The crews mobilized right on schedule, but experienced minor delays due to weather and material availability. (The patio took two or three days to complete in mid-May. The retaining wall work began June 2nd and finished June 25th.) All of Debbie's employees were friendly, conscientious and hard working. The neighbors even commented on how impressed they were with them! Debbie wasn't on-site full-time, but was very easy to reach by e-mail. She and her project manager, Karl, stayed in close contact and worked together to insure that we were informed at all times. Karl, Dan, Jacob, Justin, Everett, Matt and Charlie managed to transport approximately 44 pallets of block and several yards of gravel down the steep side of the ravine by hand, after transporting a hillside full of rotted railroad ties out! We elected to do plantings ourselves, but Debbie was extremely helpful in providing a list of recommendations.
Description of Work: Removed rotting wood patio and tree stump at front entry. Installed curved paver patio/walk per owner sketch. Removed 35-year-old railroad tie retaining walls along the steep side of a wooded ravine in backyard. Replaced with series of four undulating block walls (Keystone Intermediate II) in heights up to 4' and lengths up to 70'. Wall design followed the contours of the land and maintained desired trees. Also incorporated three sections of random stairs to create a meandering path that provides access to a fire pit and the bottom of the ravine. Installed fire pit with metal ring and 2' perimeter of pavers. Created approximately 15' long built-in seating at block wall beside fire pit. Installed sod in front and side yards. (Part of this was included in the cost of the retaining wall project, since a section of the yard was torn up from the material storage and site access.)

I wanted a retaining wall built underneath a new screened porch structure as well a patio. I wanted both to look very natural as I have a very informal garden. Debbie had great ideas about use of materials. She understood the look I wanted and understood that I wanted a free form patio. She suggested that the wall and patio both be out of flagstone. Debbie's quote came quickly by email and the price was great considering all the materials for the tall retaining wall. The work began exactly on the day Debbie said it would. There was a small problem in that I was out of town the first few days of the work and they hauled the old stone away that I wanted to keep. Debbie is going to bring me some stone to replace what was accidentally hauled away. Debbie's crew worked very carefully, were easy going, and were punctual. Both the wall and patio look excellent and really connect the screened porch to the rest of the yard and garden.
Description of Work: Twin City Landscape built a tall retaining wall to replace an existing one that was falling down. Debbie and her workers also put in a patio in front of the retaining wall.

Debbie got back to me immediately and scheduled an appointment for the following week. She emailed her extremely detailed and professional quote later that day. We booked the work for a month out (we had to wait for the ground to thaw); she called the week beforehand to confirm they were on schedule and would be out Monday morning as planned. Debbie's crew was very professional and hard-working. I asked for a difficult paver pattern, and they took that task on with a smile. They cleaned up after themselves every day and always communicated well. They even helped level a problem area in my yard that wasn't in the original quote! I was extremely happy with the entire experience.
Description of Work: Debbie and her crew removed a huge concrete patio and replaced it with a beautiful, 600+ square foot paver patio. They also built new steps, veneered some concrete steps and prepared garden beds around some of the patio edge.

We are EXTREMELY pleased with TCL's service! They returned all of our calls and emails promptly. The owner and staff are very courteous, competent, and knowledgeable. When they or we had questions, they took the time to make sure that we were all on the same page, they provided us with the available options, and took the course of action we were most comfortable with. Our property looks great now. The big improvement is due to TCL.

Told us at first, before they came out we would have to take care of tree stumps and then they would come out and landscape. They forgot our first appointment and when the tree guy showed up to grind they stumps, twin city was not there, when we called they told us they forgot. Once they came out they took care of trees and after stump guy waited for an hour they showed up and helped remove rocks that were around the stumps. The stump guy removed the stumps and then Twin City landscaping finished the landscaping. Besides the tree removal and stump removal the work was excellent and we get compliments on our yard all the time. We wanted to keep some of the bushes but wanted them in a different area. They saved all the shrubs they could and saved them for us until we figured out where we wanted them.

Of the three landscapers we had come out to give us a bid, Debbie had the best grasp on what we were looking for and that is what she bid. The other landscapers did not deliver an estimate or plan that fit our vision. We requested the work to be done in late September or early October. Well, then it started to rain. We feel the work was completed on schedule considering the weather. The work was completed on October 11th. Debbie was very responsive to our comments and concerns as the work was being done. We are very happy with the results. It is beautiful. We especially appreciate the creativity the team displayed in stacking the stones - it really added character. Unfortunately, our lawn took quite a beating because of the rain. They have seeded the parts of the lawn affected and will be back out in the spring to check on the lawn's progress. Debbie also said that they typically come out that first spring to ensure that all is well after the winter.
Description of Work: We replaced a series of stepped railroad ties terraces on either side of the house with stacked natural stone. We also added steps on one side.

Debbie was very responsive in showing up for the estimate and quickly turned around a competitive bid. There were no drawings, and the bid wasn't very detailed, but we trusted that she knew what we wanted. 0 When the crew showed up, they further refined what they were going to do. I'm glad I was there while they were doing the work so I could contribute to the decision-making. They had some great suggestions and were very customer-oriented. However, the completed work was disappointing. It wasn't the professional quality we expected. We're going to redo some of it ourselves. If you need an extra pair of hands to help with some landscaping, and want a friendly team to work with who won't overcharge you, this company is a good bet. However, if you are hiring a professional to get professional quality work, I recommend looking elsewhere.

We appreciated that Debbie was on site each day and available to give us updates. Overall, there were no surprises and we are very happy with the quality of their work and the responsiveness of Debbie, the owner. They were very professional. Everyone in our cul-de-sac likes using the two sets of stairs that weren't there before.
Description of Work: The intent of the project was to correct an incorrectly installed wraparound walkway and patio. Twin City Landscape: Removed existing paver bricks and straightened the retaining wall of a wraparound walkway and patio. Dug and poured two 12" footings for deck (Twin City was not contracted to build the deck). Excavated eroded dirt under walkway and patio. Replaced with correct underlayment cloth and class 2 gravel. Replaced walkway and patio with new paver bricks set in herringbone pattern (approximately 627 sq ft). Reshaped flower bed into new curved shape and put in new mulch. Added 2 sets of steps onto walkway.

I have decided to go with someone else.
Description of Work: While I have read that they do very good work, the professionalism in appointment taking needs a major overhaul. When I called to set up an appointment to have someone come out and take a look- I was asked where I lived. When I indicated the area, I was immediately told that you do know that this costs thousands of dollars . This is not good business practice. I indicated that I was fully aware of the costs having checked AL and the positive results reported. I then was called a week later to inform me that there was a computer glitch and my appointment was lost in the system and they may need to reschedule.
