I had new shingles put on our garage and some new windows put in our house. The pricing was competitive and quality of work was excellent. I have already hired Thompson Exteriors for our next project which is putting new siding on our house.

Peter Thompson gave me a quote and we signed a contract after reviewing my insurance documents in July. At that time he said he would do the work in September. When September rolled around he asked if I could wait until the spring, which I told him was unacceptable. He then informed me that he needed more money to do the work and was going to contact my insurance company to see if they would pay. I told him that if he couldn't do the job for what we agreed that I wanted my deposit back ($5400) and I would find someone else. He stalled for two weeks and finally did do the roof, after my insurance came up with more cash. The roofers he hired did a good job, but I found him very unreliable.

I was hot happy with the quote process. My interaction with them was pretty poor. Their price was high too.

In July, I contacted Thompson Exteriors for estimates for replacement windows and a bay window installation. While the associates were friendly and professional, their responsiveness and commitment to deadlines was disappointing. I made it clear from the beginning that I was looking for the bay window installation to take place before October as I was having family visit; I was given repeated assurances that it would be. Over the almost two months I was working with them I had to push and call repeatedly to get responses and, for reasons I don't understand, the cost ballooned by almost $1,000. I explained that I was willing to commit to do business with them and was wanting to sign; this was still met with cancelled appointments and broken promises of returned calls. Due to the manufacturer's turnaround time the absolute earliest the window can be installed (as of today) is mid to late October, assuming they would actually keep to a commitment to meet and sign papers. I absolutely want to support local businesses and was willing to do so even though the cost was more than the big-box stores; being ignored in this fashion makes me second-guess that decision and has pushed me in a different direction. I feel that I have wasted two months of my time; two months that I could have spent with a company that actually wanted my business and treated me like it.

Overall, I was unable to get a quote from the company and I was very disappointed with their response and lack of followup.

Thompson did the skylights and the windows. We had somewhat higher estimates from another company that would have gotten the job if they had been responsive to our timeline and returned our phone calls. After they faded out on us, we called Thompson, only because they are in the neighborhood and we had driven by and noticed their offices many times. We got immediate action. Kim came over and listened carefully to what we wanted, left us some window and skylight catalogues to look through, came back as soon as we called again, and had an estimate ready for us very quickly. Because we were ordering custom sizes, we had to wait two weeks for the materials to come in, but as soon as they arrived, work started the next day. The basics took about 7 days to complete, although there were a couple of days when the weather didn't cooperate which added to the total time. Thompson provided the carpenters, the roofers, the siding installers, and the sheet-rocker. All of the workers were courteous, cooperative, informative and cleaned up inside and out at the end of each work day. They took the time to listen to a short list of our worries about the mounting of the skylights and explain the corrections that would be made before the sheet-rocker came. We also signed on for the exterior painting for the new siding pieces and the outside window trim. They were able to match our colors without any problem. Kim came by regularly to check on progress. We don't think the project could have possibly gone more smoothly. We're going to do some remodeling of our front porch next spring and are considering some replacement windows. Thompson will definitely get the job.

The projects went very well! They were able to start within a couple of days of me signing the contract. It would have been sooner if not for the weather. They were also able to work around my unusual schedule as I work during the night and sleep during most days. Joe, the project coordinator, was very friendly and honest. He responded quickly when I called with questions. One crew came out to remove my old soffits and they did a fairly good job cleaning up after themselves. They were unable to put the new soffits on right away because of the weather. When the crew did come back to install the new stuff, they were very professional and were able to finish in one day. They did leave some garbage in my yard, however when Joe came to check on the project he had it removed without me having to ask about it. A different man came to do the chimney repairs a day or so later. He also did a fine job. I am very pleased with the work and will use this company again if the need should arise.

The quality of the workman ship was quality work as far as the straightness of the shingles. The stacks from the furnace and hot water heater they were installed very poorly and crooked. In both cases they weren't willing to address the problem that they created. The workers cleaned up after themselves but were not carefully about my gutters. They did scratch my gutters. Also the owner of the company took several day to return my phone calls.

The only good thing I can say about the job is that it finally got done. While everyone was "nice," customer communication and care was very poor. Work was to have been completed on Thursday, but no one showed. Same for Friday. It took repeated calls from us on Saturday to find out when work would be done. The owner finally stopped by. Said he'd fired the original crew and would get a new crew for us on Monday -- if he couldn't he'd return our deposit. Fine -- except at 6pm on Saturday evening, work started on our roof. We went out to investigate and learned it was the "fired" crew. We contacted owner and requested he come back, which he did. However, we asked that he supervise the job (since we now had a "fired" crew working on our house) but he refused. Also found out the right materials hadn't been ordered and he wasn't sure if the job would finish that day or Monday. Work finally finished 10pm Saturday evening. Quality seems fine, but overall experience was too frustrating.
