The Original Driveway Design

Company was very easy to work with. They gave me a bid and explained what needed to be done and what schedule would be. They were very professional. They came when they promised and completed the work on time (even in the 95 degree heat). They left great instructions regarding when I could drive on it and what I should and should not do while garage floor and driveway cure. I would absolutely hire them again. They may not be the cheapest, but they certainly provide value for what you get.

Went well ,and are getting a lot of praise from neighbors.They put on a layer of acrylimat sealer in two months,but think i shoud have done two layers as check marks are showing threw.?? Time will tell.

Received a visit from the estimator the same day I called. That person stated the work could not be done because the curb cut was on city property/easement. I called the City of Robbinsdale who stated WITH a permit, the work can be done. The estimator, with 20 years of experience as he stated, clearly was not familiar with city permits. I was disappointed. I have hired someone else.

We are very pleased with the final result. We upgraded our sidewalk to a colored concrete that matched our house trim and also stamped it and had an oval shaped patio area off the front stoop built into the sidewalk. The end product is very striking and we have had numerous comments from neighbors and multiple others that were walking. Our curb appeal went up dramatically and we know this will greatly add to our resale value.

Set the appointment up a week in advance. Heather, was very kind and suggested Randy the owner be the one to make the appointment. We were looking forward to the appointment, arranged our schedules to accommodate the 9am appointment. I had a missed call and message at 7:30am from Randy asking if he could come early because his first appointment was a no-show. I called at 8 and said that would be great, but he proceeded to tell me he already headed back and doesn't need any more work this year as they are plenty busy! I was disappointed, and certainly can't make someone work if they don't want to, but don't waste my time setting up the appointment. I found it completely rude and unprofessional.

I thought the estimate was very high in relation to the small area. The estimate was detailed. They were punctual. I would get a quote from them again if I was going to do the entire driveway.

The finished product stood-out for quality work. Responsiveness sometimes was slow, but we called the salesperson he got back here right away all the time.

I think the sales area could have been better. They didn't get back to us right away in the sales area. We asked them to followup with us about a sealer for the driveway and they were going to get back but then we haven't heard back from them on that. They actually were punctual.

Randy has a great eye for design and went far beyond what I would expect from a driveway company. The product looks amazing and we receive many compliments from their work. I would use them again in the future for sure.

The stamped concrete asphalt and apron for the driveway went fairly smoothly. One of the blocks cracked (no real fault of the company, sometimes concrete just cracks) and the company fixed it no questions asked. The original driveway was poorly done in the past, and ODD had to dig up remnants of 2 poorly poured concrete driveways put in by the builder. It ended up taking an extra 3 tons of gravel to fill the driveway. The asphalt was put in in October of 2014, but it was too cold to color the asphalt until late May/June of 2015. The driveway looks great. There were a number of complications with this project that ODD handled very well and professionally. ODD was not the cheapest option available, but the quality and professionalism was high, and the price was OK. We would recommend them.

Randy came out to quote us for cement apron and asphalt driveway giving an idea of how much our neighbor's portion of the shared entry was. He listened to our concerns regarding drainage and presented reasonable solutions. Unfortunately, it was a bit out of our price range and something we wouldn't benefit from since we were selling our house. He gave us the option of just replacing our apron, sidewalk, and step. Based on how much the original concrete sunk, we found out we really only needed one step to get into the front door instead of 2. The guys came to do the work and got it all done in one day. They did a great job and While out checking on the guys, Randy pitched in and swung the 20 lb sledge hammer with the young ones. A team effort where you can see how much pride Randy and crew has for each job. Thank you and see you at our next house!

Highly recomend Driveway Design. They were the only contractor to provide references.The driveway looks excelent. Thanks to everybody at Driveway Design. Very profesional and they do top notch work.

They explain things more thorough and what they will do. They have already provided ideas and I have decided when I decide to do this I will give them a call.

They were excellent. I like their attention to detail and offering of suggestions that I wouldn't have thought of myself to improve the space or just to make it better.

Randy is the consummate professional. He did a thorough analysis of the job to be done. He put together a plan to deal with a couple of complex issues we had and explained what he was going to do throughly and professionally. Every step they took was done carefully and well. The final laying of the asphalt was done very smoothly. Clean up was excellent. We've had several rainstorms and the waterflow off the driveway is very good. Randy did everything he said he would do and he did it well. Not the cheapest by the way, but worth every penny. I recommend them highly.

When looking for quote for a new driveway, was told by the office staff that Paul (owner) will only provide a face top face quotes. Found Paul to straight shooter, detailed oriented, and wants to do quality work. From reading comments on Angie's list, multiple folks said the same thing. After our first appointment, a had a number of concerns and Paul made a second trip out to our house to address them. In the end, I knew that I could probably find a cheaper contractor for the job, but Paul was the contractor I wanted to install our new driveway & sidewalk. The quote has everything spelled out in terms of the product specs, warranty, etc. No high pressure sales pitch and even provide a list of current customers. Paul's crew arrived on time for the demo & pour days. Job was done correctly and didn't cut corners. I could tell the crew had work together for some time and were concern about the details of the job. During the concrete pour, each person knew his duties and didn't need to be told what to do. Yes one of them loved to step on our shrubs a lot and I bit my tongue when he did, but other than that, it was a very low stress event. In the end, we got a awesome looking sidewalk & driveway. Many of our neighbors have commented as well. Really gives our house a nice curb appeal. Takeaways: - don't be afraid to go with concrete over asphalt as it probably only cost us an additional $1500 - $1800 - pay attention to the base of the driveway. Too many contractors cut corners in this area - Paul has interesting design ideas with some curves - be open to them - Don't forget to use the coupon on Angie's List!

The Original Driveway was good. I liked the way he stamped the concrete.

Everything looks AMAZING! Our new driveway & walkway look better than they ever have. Randy and team took a lot of care to make sure the levelling of both the driveway and walkway were done correctly, not just replacing what was there before. it had a dramatic effect - some parts of the driveway are 6" higher than they were before, but the water is running away from the house much more effectively than before. You can see the experience of the team in the way they work together. I strongly suggest you visit the company's website to watch the videos, where you'll not only learn about a driveway installation but also get a sense of the experience Randy brings to these jobs. And, it's clear his team has been with him a long time, too, as they work together quickly, effectively and with great passion for the work they do.

Randy came out and took a look at the project. He expressed concerns about drainage and water run off and stated he wasn't sure he'd be able to do the job with asphalt (vs concrete). He told me he would come back out at another time and look at elevations and such and then give me an estimate. That was a week ago and I've not heard anything since. I accepted a bid from another company in the meantime.

It went really well! This was the first time I had used them, and I would use them again in the future as well as recommend them to others.

The estimate was very reasonable. The work was not completely pristine - there were some rocks, tree roots and some debris left afterwards, however, the cost was half of my other estimate so I was very happy with the result and would use them again.

They were wonderful, they are excellent. Their product is wonderful and excellent. They do everything that they say they will do, and the neighbors have commented on their clean up. Their price was more than some of the others, but the quality was worth it. We would refer them to anybody.

We had an old patio slab removed and replaced. The patio itself looks good and we have no reason to question the quality of the work at this point. However, there were some issues with the process that we think could be helpful to others. They came to our house before the project to give us an estimate, so they saw the distance from our back driveway to the patio, and we also told them before the project began that we had an underground sprinkler system and that other vendors had driven on our lawn over boards that they provided to protect the sprinkler heads. However, when The Original Driveway Design workers did the work on our patio they used sledgehammers and saws to take out our old patio by hand. We later leaned from their supervisor that they did this because they did not have enough boards with them to get their heavy equipment to the patio site. It was a lot of extra work for the crew, they worked extremely award, and we do appreciate their hard work. But, we just had our house painted (the painters were actually still on-site when the patio work was performed), and the saws threw a tremendous amount of fine concrete dust all over the back of our house and our second story deck and deck furniture which was 20 or more feet from the patio. We found out later when having our windows cleaned that they also got actual concrete, not just dust, on the sliding glass doors by the patio, which had to be scraped off to clean the windows. The contract specifies that the homeowner is responsible for restoration (which for us meant buying dirt to fill in the 4-8 inch gap between the new slab and the lawn when the forms were removed), but they are responsible for cleaning the site, which should include cleaning up the concrete dust they created. When we asked about the concrete dust, we were told that we had to spray down all the dusty areas ourselves after the concrete cured. Although we did not like that answer, we are getting our house ready to sell so we followed their instructions, but the concrete dust is still visible. In our view, they are the experts and should have planned better for the job--either bring the boards you need to get to the site with your equipment, or if you choose to go the manual route, have a much better plan to minimize and clean up the dust. At a minimum, they should have warned us about the dust issue and let us decide how we wanted to handle it. We would also recommend asking about the timeline. We wish they would have communicated better about the timing of the job. They started our job on a Thursday, but did not finish. No one showed up the next day. We had not been told what was going on, so we called and eventually were told that the job would be finished on Saturday. It would have been nice to have had better communication on that. In fairness, they did stick to their original quote even though they found the job was more difficult than they initially anticipated.
