I thought that their prices were very fair. This is the third time I have had them do work at my home. They have a warranty that is second to none. They previously completed my entire interior a couple of years ago and there were a couple of things that needed to be re-done inside. There was no hassle and they accommodated any time that was most convenient for me. John Armstrong is the man who comes out and lines the project up. The warranty touch ups were completed by Dale and he did a very nice job. The men who worked on the exterior did a good job in terms of power washing, sanding, and completing the work. They really took pride in their work and made sure that it met a high standard. The work turned out very well.

It went very smoothly. Communication with the project manager was god. The individual painters were polite, professional, neat, and sensitive to our needs. Our satisfaction level is high. These guys are GOOD at what they do

After my dad died my family and I were working hard to get my dad's house on the market and were anxious to have everything done in time for the realtor tour. I called the painters that the realtor recommended and everyone was busy or not returning my call. Of course it was beautiful weather for painting the outsides of houses at the time and all painters are busy then. So I called Magic Painting, they had painted my house a few years back and done some recent refreshing of paint on it. John responded immediately to my email and we set something up within a week and it was done beautifully. Magic Painting is definitely a go-to painter when you need it done in a timely manner.

I employed the Magic Painting Company several years back and was very satisfied with the job they did, painting and staining the entire outside of the house. Hence I recalled John for an estimate to do the front cedar again. It held up well for ten years. His estimate was competitive and I gave him the job. He and his crew showed up on schedule and the staining was completed in one day, several days after the washing. The cedar is over 20 years old and the color did not turn out quite the way I expected, perhaps because I chose a semi-transparent color instead of solid. I prefer the natural wood grain coming through as much as possible. Never the less, it was done neatly and it really dressed up the front of the house. Looks very good from the street with all the greying now removed. He does give a three year guarantee on his work to address any unevenness in the color that may or may not occur.

We have a classic tudor home in Tangletown and the front (South) side trim was in ragged shape. John and his crew did an impeccable job of scraping, priming, patching and painting. The work site was kept immaculate and totally cleaned up each night. They were an intelligent and responsive crew, asking all the right questions and attending to every detail. The price quoted and paid was competitive with other companies and the work was beyond expectations. I would hire them again in a heartbeat and recommend them highly.

John from The Magic Painting Company came out and looked over the job. A bid was emailed to me within a couple of days. I had gotten 2 other bids; one higher and one lower. Overall we liked John's presentation best and decided to go with his company. He scheduled the project for the following week and let us know what was expected of us. Since the job was to refinish our 7 foot double front doors, we did need to be home and had to leave the doors open "just a crack" during the drying time. The job took 3 days to complete due to drying time between coats. Each day we were told when Dale (the guy doing the work) would return the next day so we wouldn't have to be waiting around. Communication was excellent. One day when Dale was going to be delayed by a hour or so we were notified promptly. Interestingly, the bid John gave us was for $510 but the final invoice was only $350 because the job did not take as long as he estimated it would. I don't know many companies that would reduce the bid-price after getting the work but that's just what John did. I was very impressed. When my wife noticed a couple of "thick spots" on the varnish I notified John and he promptly set up a time for Dale to come over and fix the problem (this was after I had paid for the job.) They even left a can of the stain and varnish they used in case we every wanted to do any touch-ups down the road. The doors turned out fantastic! The areas where they needed to stain matched the existing stain perfectly and the doors now look new again. I would not hesitate to recommend The Magic Painting Company to friends & family.

We received four bids to paint our home. One bid was $5,000 with two others at $8,000. Magic wanted $33k. I'll give them the benefit of doubt that they didn't want the job, they gave us an outrageous bid. $33k to paint the trim and windows on a 1,700 square foot house. We told the other companies about this bid and they all laughed and asked if we got a kitchen remodel as part of that as well. An entire waste of my time.

Professional attitude and on time for the quote (a big deal in my book), and seemed to know what he was talking about. However, the quote was several hundred dollars more then the other quotes I received easily pricing themselves out of the job. I have since awarded the job to another business. Also, overall I just felt more comfortable and confident based on the answers to all my (many) questions.

I was in the middle of selling my home and had a few items come up on the FHA appraisal: peeling paint and vents in the garage that "pierced the firewall" and needed to be removed and patched with Firecode drywall. I called John late on a Friday and he was able to come out for an estimate early Monday morning. He provided a ballpark estimate on the spot at a price point I was expecting. John also pointed out a few "trouble areas" that might get flagged if a different individual came out on the re-inspection. I agreed and had noticed them earlier myself - so we added a few painting items to the scope of the project. Between all the curveballs we were thrown (snow, sleet, etc. and a tight time line to get re-inspected or else delay closing) John's team performed exceptionally. He came out and covered some key areas to get protected from the elements. The team broke up the project into segments that they could complete in between snowstorms, sub-freezing temperatures, and darkness. Naturally, I'd prefer not to have to do it all over again but if I did I'd want John and the MAGIC Painting team to handle it.

John did a great job helping me decide on colors and style. He also arranged for multiple trips to do the add-ons I requested. It turned out great, and I will be calling him again for additional work elsewhere in the house!

Came in almost double the price of the company I ended up choosing instead

The "Magic" paint truck had been doing some work in my neighborhood the year before Really liked their truck .Checked them out on "Angie's List" along with other companies. The only company that tested for lead paint out of all estimates Very prompt with estimate a little high because of lead paint Very professional in their workmanship Considered my needs let me know the plan for the day John and Team have the special "Magic" to make an old house sparkle!

John and his crew were fantastic; the craftsmanship and integrity of the work was wonderful, and I was grateful for the daily conversations that allowed me to comment on the work and give input on various details.

John came out quickly to do a walk-through and provide an esitmate. The turn around for the estimate was fast and professional. After a good conversation with him covering the details of what they would do and how they go about it, I felt comfortable to trust him to this project. Once we agreed to go with The Magic Painting Co. we set a date. They were very aware of the weather as April was still a bit chilly so we ended up post poning a few days. They arrived on the scheduled morning and moved quickly to do the prep work of the house. Key to any project is proper preparation, the actual final task itself is often the easy part! I was pleased in care they took to both prep the house and working around the garden beds along the house. Once cleaned, scraped, caulked, sanded, and all the little repairs completed the paint went on fast! The attention to detail around the utilities and the patio/deck was very good and there was no splatter on our deck or sidewalk. While nearly everything for our siding was in very good shape there were two boards along the bottom of the garage that were in rough shape from water damage... they did an excellent doing their MAGIC to repair them and communicating what to expect. Also the final invoice came within 1% of the estimate, so very acceptable. The job completed in a timely manner and we were left with a newly painted good looking house... then we got a unexpected extra cold snap and rain. On the north sides of the house and garage, the paint turned a little streaky (looked like it has just rained even though dry to the touch) as a result of not having fully cured in time for the cold snap. John was quick to respond once we reported to him and in the first week of May they returned to redo those the north sides and a few other portions that were on the tail end of the painting to ensure everything was going to be fine. All-in-all I am pleased with the work done and their follow up to ensure our complete satisfaction. It is now nearly November and the house still looks great! John and his team know their business and I happily trust them to stand by their work on this paint job and should I need to look for a painter again I'll look to them first.as l

I am so impressed with John Armstrong and his company. He follows up! I got a call from him last spring asking if I wanted him to look over the house to see if there are any places that need touching up (rather than painting the entire house again in the future). Talk about organized. He has a record of the paint used on this house (7 years ago now? The original paint job has lasted and lasted.) and the cans of leftover paint in our basement are labelled so there are no questions about our paint can collection. John was wonderful to work with, he kept us in the loop about when they would be here, if the weather was too bad for painting he would let us know, etc. He stopped in daily and also did some of the painting himself. His employees listened to classical music and did not smoke. Finally, John had found a rotten trim board over the porch and pulled it out and recommended a carpenter. It was in a place above our view (we could see it if we stand on a riser in the driveway and look for it) so we totally forgot about the gaping hole in our trim. But John didn't. He found us a new carpenter, who came on his day off and fixed it, paint and all, before the cold hit last week-end. Impressive. We will be keeping the name of the carpenter also. If I had to say something bad about the company it would be that it probably is more expensive than other paint companies, but I don't really know because I have never checked. I love good service.

Professional and dependable. John came on time for his meetings related to the bids, he submitted a bid in a timely manner and responded consistently and quickly to any questions I had. His crew arrived on time, were polite and cleaned up to my specifications. I am very happy with the work they performed.

I was quite satisfied with the work done and the professionalism of John and his entire crew. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again on other projects.

We are preparing our house for sale and had a large amount of interior painting that needed to be done. Magic had painted the exterior of our house last summer, so I called them for an estimate. In my limited experience, Magic's estimates usually come in a bit higher, but the quality of their work justifies the expense. John ( the owner) catches small details that others, including me, would miss. Just the other day, I noticed that he had caulked something, not because I had asked him to, but just because it would look better. Because this is their slow season, John was willing to negotiate the price which I was thankful for since I didn't want to put a lot of money into a house that we'll be moving out of. I still ended up paying more than I would of had I gone with someone else, but I was willing to pay a premium for good quality work, and to work with people I know and trust. John and Caitlin were in my house for two weeks and made what could have been a real ordeal into a pleasant experience. John kept to his pricing and his timing (to the day). John and Caitlin arrived punctually every day, worked efficiently, were friendly, as unobtrusive as possible, involved me in the timing of things and updated me regularly. I can't say enough good things about their work; I will definitely be hiring them again!

They performed very well. Each day they arrived on time, met to discuss/plan their day, then went at it. They had all the tools and supplies they needed on hand. They set up an area in the garage for their supplies and as a staging area -- which was kept neat as a pin at all times. They pointed out areas of concern, any changes in scheduling, etc. in advance. They discussed tyhe paints and materials they would use and why. Finally, they performed a walk-around check with us at the end of the project to make sure everything was taken care of properly. They had taken it upon themselves to speak to several thimngs that were not immediately apparent when they started. The owner/manager, John Armstrong, was there every day. A very pleasant experience which resulted in an exceptionally great looking house again! Johns team (2 others, Dale and Katlyn) were also consumate professionals. They not only knew what they were doing and stayed on task, they were very personable, helpful and neat. By the time they left, a little over 3 weeks, John and his team were almost like members of our family. Genuinely, to-the-core quality people.

I've done quite a bit of painting myself, but I wanted a pro because of the considerable amount of difficult cut-ins with a dark color next to the white ceiling and the 8 windows. Anything less than perfection would've shown right up. We weren't disappointed. John's work was perfect. Two coats and and excellent cleanup in 8 hours. Magic Painting also painted our exterior earlier this year. John has proven to be extremely reliable and efficient. He knows his paints. He's very good with colors. The quality of his work is truly superior. He may or may not charge you less than the next guy, but you'll absolutely get a great value. When it comes to painters, don't forget why you want one in the first place. If you wanted the cheapest, you'd do it yourself, so you want somebody good, not necessarily the cheapest. Next time I need a painter, John's the only one I'll call.

We had three separate quotes provided by companies with high ratings on Angies List. John's business, The Magic Painting Co, was among the highest quote, but we were going to sell the house and wanted the job done right so we went with him anyway. His company was also one of the closest to our home so we figured we'd support the local business. John's quoting experience was professional and he answered questions in a straight-forward manner. He made a point to visit our house to see the work before providing a quote, which is more than the two other companies did. When he was done we had no question that the job was going to be done well and to our expectations. Even though the quote was among the highest we received, it did not include the purchase of the actual trim pieces ( there were only three of them), so my wife and I had to select, buy, and transport them to our house. We painstakingly selected oak trim to match the rest of the wood in the house, making sure the pieces had similar grain pattern and hue so that staining would come out even. If you've ever sorted through wood at a lumber yard, you'll know that this takes some time and effort. This also was not included in our quote, so the actual cost of our project was 500+trim, which was $40, for a total of $540. In our opinion this is pretty pricey for having three pieces of trim cut, stained, and put up, so as I said before our expectations were high. We selected a stain, with John's help, that ended up matching the rest of the wood in the house very closely. We were happy with this result. We were a little less pleased with the final finish of the pieces. They had a bit of a blotchy appearance, which we had believed would be avoided by hiring a professional. I have done some staining in the past know wood can be tricky to stain, but that's why we hired the work out instead of doing it ourselves. Also, one of the pieces John cut was a bit too large so it split when he installed it after staining. Even though the split was 6-8" long, it was in an inconspicuous place near the floor, so he compensated us and we moved on. In total, it took two visits (two days) for John to complete the cutting and staining because two coats of finish were needed. He called ahead and was clean and respectful of the work site (our home!) and was pleasant to talk to. Overall our experience was a B for 3 reasons: slightly blotchy finish, split trim, and price. My wife and I have very high expectations when we hire professionals and so we expect the prices to be high, but we also expect the delivery to meet expectations. We are not likely to hire a 'B' experience again.

The project went well. John was great to work with in color selection. He brought over many samples and put up in different areas in the room to give us a good idea of what it would eventually look like. He was extremely helpful in our selection of master bedroom color. We love it. Benjamin Moore Meditation--perfect for a calm, relaxing bedroom. They are so careful with edging and cleanup-their jobs always look so professional.

John, his project manager Dale, and his team of painters have a unique approach to the services provided. The team meets at the beginning of the day and discusses what they are going to accomplish for the day. Then John met with me every day and filled me in on their progress. The team always cleaned up the work site every single day before they left which was very much appreciated. They only played classic music in the morning on the radio and kept it down to not disturb anyone. I appreciate John's attention to detail, his constant communication, and his team members positive work ethic. They were enjoyable to have around. The quality of their work and attention to detail is excellent! John even provided a list of stain colors that were used and where they were applied. Repairs were also noted on that list and possible future things that may need to be addressed down the road. We have had The Magic Painting Co. do both extensive interior work, including woodwork enameling, and exterior work before. We will definitely hire them again.

I found Magic Painting on Angie's List, along with two other highly-recommended companies. I received an estimate from two of the companies I contacted; both responded promptly. The first estimate was from the other company (not Magic), and it was higher than Magic's, plus I didn't feel like the representative was very interested in the work. John's approach was more holistic; for example, he asked us how we envisioned using the room and the mood that we wanted to set for the room, which I found quite helpful. Once I signed the agreement and paid a downpayment, John begin work as soon as his schedule allowed. He was prompt, professional, respectful of me and my cats, and took the work very seriously. I can tell that he takes great pride in his work, and the end result couldn't be better. I had originally hired him to paint the walls, and we were planning to paint the cabinets ourselves. Painting the cabinets ourselves ended up being a very time-consuming task and because we took the doors off and painted them in the basement, lint from the dryer somehow got into the paint and looked terrible. I consulted John about what he thought it would take to make the doors and trim look acceptable, and he gave me an estimate. He completed the trim work and took the doors to his studio to paint. He saved my kitchen cabinets! I would definately hire John again, and his approach helps develop a long-term relationship. As much as I'd like to have everything that I need painted at once, I cannot afford it. John shared that he works with clients over a span of time according to their budgets and is proud of the long-term clients he has. He's got a great personality and sense for what colors would/wouldn't work, and was very patient with us while we decided on a palette.
