Description of Work: The last time I used Suburban Air was 2 years ago when our furnace quit overnight one Saturday. It was still under warranty so there was no cost to us. They were good about calling back right away Sunday morning and came out right away due to the cold and I was sick with mono at the time.

My husband requested an estimate online. Dan called the next day, spent quite a bit of time discussing our situation (boiler system failed while we were on vacation, radiators froze and burst), and our options for replacing. We made an appointment for him to come out when we were available. Dan showed up promptly, spent a considerable time taking measurements and looking at options for duct work for a possible forced air system. He probably spent at least 1.5 hours with us. I was quite impressed with this given that the other contractors had not seemed to go into as much detail as Dan had. He said he would email us the estimate by the end of the week (the appointment had been on a Tuesday). It has been now two and a half weeks and neither my husband nor I have received an email or a phone call. Quite disappointing, I had high hopes since Dan seemed to be so conscientious, but there was absolutely no follow through with providing an estimate. And looking back on it, that 1.5 hours that he spent in our house was a complete waste of my time. I can't imagine that they can stay in business with this type of practice. We had 5 other contractors come through and all provided estimates to us in 2 days and we have decided on one. I would not recommend this company based on poor follow through in not even being able to provide an estimate at all.
Description of Work: Came out to provide us an estimate on replacing our failed boiler and radiator system and possibly installing a forced air system.

They were excellent! They did good work and showed up on time. The final cost we paid stayed exactly in line with their estimate. We would use them again for future service.
Description of Work: They installed allergy bulbs for the furnace. They did this for us about six months ago. That was the first time we had used them.

When I scheduled with the company, I told them that the damper assembly was not working properly on one of my furnaces. A worker came out on the day scheduled. He did not repair the furnace that day because he said that he needed a part. We were assessed a trip charge and a diagnostic fee. On a second visit--after a no show day--the work went well once it was started. We were assessed a repair charge and another trip fee.
Description of Work: Repaired damper assembly on one of our furnaces.

Response from Suburban Air
THIS CALL AND OUR PROCEDURE WAS REVIEWED BY OUR MANAGEMENT AND OUR STANDARD PROCEDURES AND FEES WERE FOLLOWED. THIS HOME HAS MULTIPLE DAMPER ASSEMBLIES, INCLUDING ZONE DAMPERS. WE ARRIVED ON TIME, DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A DAMPER MOTOR THAT OPERATES A DAMPER DOOR ON THE FURNACE. THIS DAMPER NORMALLY FAILS DUE TO A SPRING THAT BREAKS, WHICH WE DO STOCK ON OUR TRUCKS. AS THIS IS A PART THAT RARELY FAILS, SO WE DO NOT STOCK THEM ON OUR SERVICE VEHICLES. WE RETURNED WITH THE PART AND CHARGED FOR THE PART WITH LABOR AND FOR A RETURN TRIP FEE WHICH IS OUR POLICY IF WE HAVE TO OBTAIN A PART. OUR PRICING FOR THIS CLIENT WAS REFLECTIVE OF OUR COSTS AND FAIR AND COMPETITIVE IN OUR MARKET.

Mike and Dan arrived on time and were very thorough, looking closely at my current system, asking what I was looking for and explaining their products and process. They gave me bids for varying levels of products. But their bid was one of the highest I received, even with the offered 5% cash discount. Still, I appreciated their willingness to answer all my questions and explain options. They suggested paying extra for a heat pump, which they said would be paid back within two years with energy savings. I spoke with two energy specialists who advised against going that route at this point. The 'hybrid' could be the wave of the future, but I wasn't ready to rely on it.

Well enough. I called the emergency number at midnight and received a call back within 20 minutes. I discussed the problem with a technician and he surmised the cause but was not sure that even if he came he would have the right part that night. Because it was not going to fall below freezing, he suggested waiting until the morning which I did. The technician arrived promptly at 8am and resolved the problem.
Description of Work: A furnace pilot light went out while away on a trip. They came home to find the house was 45 degrees. Suburban replaced the pilot ignitor and checked other components and repaired the furnace in about 30 minutes.

THEY CHECK ALL FILTERS, REPLACE IF NECESSARY, AND DO ANY REPAIRS, ALL INCLUDED WITH THE COST. THE SERVICE AGREEMENT ALSO INCLUDES PRIORITY SERVICE AND A 10% DISCOUNT ON PARTS. THEY ARE ALWAYS VERY PROFESSIONAL, ON TIME, AND THEY ALWAYS CALL TO LET YOU KNOW WHAT TIME TO EXPECT THEM. THEY GIVE A FULL REPORT ON THE SERVICE COMPLETED AND THEY LET YOU KNOW IF THERE IS ANYTHING TO LOOK OUT FOR OR BE CONCERNED WITH. THEY ARE ALSO THE COMPANY THAT DID THE ORIGINAL INSTALLATION OF THE EQUIPMENT AND I WILL PROBABLY STICK WITH THEM BECAUSE THEY DO SUCH A NICE JOB.
