+ -1 moreI found this company to be very easy to work with on all aspects of this job. Their business office is well run, efficient-good follow-up. The estimators and installers arrived on time-job was completed ahead of schedule, they cleaned up everything meticulously afterward. The system is quiet, vents are unobtrusive and it works well. This type of system is a good option for people who want central air, but prefer to keep the boiler/radiators for the winter &/or don't want to deal with the hassle of fixing woodwork, etc. after a traditional forced air system is installed. I would recommend it-and if you go with this type of system, the guys at Paul Stafford are top notch.

+ -1 moreThis company was a pleasure to work with. The owner Paul Stafford did the estimates & planning and Micah did the electrical work. Both were professional, timely, neat and clear. We were not charged a second trip charge when the electrician had to make a second unplanned trip (because of unpredicted difficulty with our old wiring). They made an effort to do what was needed with limited disruption. When the electrical inspector came for the required inspection, he commented that this was one of the best electrical companies in town. I will definitely call them again if needed.
Description of Work: Grounded one outlet, updated some old wiring, installed lights including wired an existing light to an existing switch in our old house.

+ -1 moreI was quite impressed. David understood what we wanted done quickly and gave excellent feedback to let me know that he understood. He did an excellent job of problem solving the issues and was quite innovative in dealing with connecting blocks and inside wiring in a house built in 1956. All work areas were in better condition after his visit.
Description of Work: On three double light switches, David switched the two switches at our request. This made the switches more useful to us. Also, he replaced one old, outdated light switch with a modern silent switch. On the inside wiring of our telephone system, he added and/or deleted how the lines appeared in the baseboard connecting blocks at three locations in the house. He was successful in using the existing wiring and blocks even when adding a second line at two locations. He was quite adapt in determining which of three (3) lines appeared where as necessary.

+ -1 morePaul came out within a few days, arrived on time and gave me an estimate before he left. Work started two weeks later and was finished in two days. They cleaned up after each project and were very respectful of my house.
Description of Work: Upgraded all electric,replaced fuse box with circuit breakers, put in new ceiling lights in basement,changed light fixtures in kitchen and hallway, placed new lights in attic and over kitchen sink, and replaced all receptacles. Some planned work could not be done because of structural obstacles in the way, and after removing basement ceiling some outdated junction boxes had to be removed and replaced.

He advised against putting a vent fan over a nearby window due to structural considerations. He proposed alternatives involving addition of a range hood and venting through cabinets or attic. Received a bid in email the next day. The work would have been too involved and costly for my old home, so I decided against vent fan installation. I'm not prepared for a kitchen remodel. I plan to have this company do other upgrades.

+ -1 moreThe estimate we received was promptly delivered and clear; no vague or hidden costs. The employees were very attentive to the fact that their worksite remained our home. They made efforts to limit the messes that were inevitable with such a project and cleaned up after themselves as needed. They also treated us with due professionalism and respect. They accommodated our schedule and agreed to start a little later in the day than their norm. The work progressed pretty much according to the original schedule. When an error with the air-handler was discovered, Jim immediately replaced it with a conforming one and was even able to amicably work out the ensuing scheduling issue with our insulation contractor, who was there the same day. I would just as soon have them work on our house again as I would have them over for dinner.
Description of Work: Expertly installed a high-velocity central air conditioning system in our 1919 Dutch Colonial house. Jim, their expert on this SpacePak system, was highly attentive to our concerns; he treated our home as he would have treated his own. When others were working with him, they were certain to follow his instructions. He impressively found ways to install the vents for the first floor with remarkably little evidence that they extend from the attic even feeding the vents through the space between the slanted closet ceiling and the roof above it to almost totally eliminate their exposure in the second floor closets. And, of his own accord, he found a way to feed the required drainage, condenser and electrical lines through a part of the roof that extends to the first floor, eliminating the need to have those unsightly pipes and tubes mounted to the side of our house. I highly recommend them for any installation work, especially this unobtrusive high-velocity A/C system.

He was friendly, very thorough and was able to type up and print out a bid for me right there on the spot. Of the three estimates I got for this job, Stafford was the lowest BY FAR ($750 lower than the next best!). Scheduling the work was a breeze. They sent 2 electricians on the scheduled day (Misha and Jesse). They were on time and pleasant. They got right to work, finished in less time than expected, and left everything looking clean and new. I feel like I will never need to search for an electrician again!
Description of Work: Upgraded panel from screw in fuses to breakers. Changed several light fixtures. Added one wall outlet. Added one hard wired smoke detector and 1 battery operated one. Repaired one damaged switch and changed one wall plug to GCIF.

The cost of the job was half of the other estimates (for the heat exchangers). They were courteous and on time all the way through. The clean up was superior.
Description of Work: Replacing cracked heat exchangers in nine-year-old furnace and prepping for A/C installation in the spring.

+ -1 moreElectrician from Paul Stafford Electrical came out and checked everything out, couldn't find anything wrong with the house circuits, meter, etc. We then called Excel; Excel repair guys came out and checked (sort of) the main line and declared nothing wrong. That evening we experienced a power surge that shorted out most of the appliances in the kitchen. When I called PSE, the original electrician was unable to come, but Chris came instead. He checked everything over again thoroughly and theorized what the problem was with the main line and offered to wait while I called Excel again. When he left, he gave me his cell phone number so that I could call when the Excel electrician came back so that he could make sure that they actually addressed the problem. He was very helpful before he left and explained everything to me so that I could deal better with Excel. Despite the fact that he wasn't able to fix the problem, he was great and I would use their services again.
Description of Work: We were having electrical problems-flickering lights, outages, etc. Cable for phone/tv/internet had melted at connection in the basement and had to be fixed.

+ -1 moreWe're extremely pleased with the work that Paul Stafford and his crew did for us. Paul himself came out to do the estimate, and he was the only electrician who would actually visit and do an estimate out of all the companies we called. He was on-time, friendly, listened to everything we said, and was very informative about the work needed. He carried a voice recorder to keep notes of the work as we walked around the house, and then pulled out a laptop and printer and wrote up the estimate in our dining room. When the time came to rewire the doorbell, Dave came at the appointed time, which was scheduled tightly so that he could do the work while the door guy had taken off the old front entry door, but before he put the new one on, and Dave did a great job. On the next visit, Dave replaced an old outlet in the kitchen, added 2 new ones, changed switches in the basement to 3-way, and added more switches for other lights. Altogether a great experience, and I'd recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Rewired a doorbell, installed new kitchen outlets and changed light switches in basement.

+ -1 moreEasy to arrange appointment but needed to wait over a week for the work to be done. Arranged a time between 12 and 3. The rep, Dave, I believe, arrived at 12:40 and did the work within 1 and 1/4 hours. I was billed, however from 12:30 to 1:00. This cost me an extra $25. The rep really did not want me to see the invoice he was submitting to the company and did not write the actual times on my receipt. I spoke to the home office who said that they have never had this problem before. This did give me $25 for a coupon that I forgot to give the repair guy when he was here. The office staff was very helpful and polite. Not really a big deal about the extra $25 since my previous estimate from another company was over $200. Still a deal and the lights look great.
Description of Work: Replaced the two light fixtures on the front of the house, fixed the wiring for these lights, checkout lights on garage and back of the house and made recommendations.

After going over all my needs, he plugged in his Sony VAIO laptop and began working on the estimate -- I was very impressed with this. Sells Bryant furnaces and AC, Aprilaire humidifiers and EZ Flex filters. I really wish this quote had come in lower. From my initial experiences with them I feel they would have done an outstanding job.
Description of Work: One of six HVAC contractors who quoted furnace and AC replacement as well as two new heat runs, two air returns, and a new garage heater with gas line.

Other than the fact that I now have working fixtures, I hardly would have known they'd been here. I also appreciated that they kept an eye out for my escape-artist cat. The Angie's List coupon (which reduced the price) was a nice perk too!
Description of Work: They replaced a faulty wall light switch and a motion detector that had suffered a small nervous breakdown after a storm, and would no long turn off.

He explained to me how to safely operate the system until a later date when they could chase down the problem, a process that could take hours.
