+ -1 moreThe furnace in our new home spewed water out the exterior vent. The original furnace installer came out and basically said, "there is nothing we can do about it." After being "spit on" for four years, loosing shrubbery to ice forming, I looked on Angie's List and choose the Paul Stafford Company. "Dan" listened to my plea, came out and got "spit on," consulted the manual, contacted the manufacturer, and tried a possible solution, when this did not work, he again contacted the manufacturer, and pressed until he was sent a kit to correct the problem. Presto!! Was totally impressed with his professionalism and timeliness.
Description of Work: Dan adjusted the output of excess water in our furnace. It had been spewing out the exterior vent and he directed it into an interior drain. Excellent service.

+ -1 moreThe boiler had not been tuned up for at least three years and may not have been for the ten years of its life. Dan from PSE tuned up the boiler. When he was done, he told me what he did and explained that he could not re-pressurize the system because the supply line only allowed a trickle of water into the system. (Before PSE arrived, I had also had problems re-pressurize the system.) I am happy they told me what was happening. Dan said the supply flow was a plumbing problem and he was not licensed to handle plumbing. He gave a suggestion of how to approach the problem, which was helpful.
Description of Work: Performed a residential boiler tune-up.

+ -1 moreDan initially visited to provide the estimate. He was friendly and communicative. He wore shoe booties to protect the floors. He examined my old furnace and described the options of a comparable unit and a high efficiency unit. I received a written estimate by email for both. I decided to go with the high efficiency unit, due to rebates and tax credits. I was asked for the addition of a condensate pump install, which was agreed to. The installers arrived on time and, over the period of 1 and 1/2 days, performed the install satisfactorily. They seemed to be respectable and proficient. I encountered a minor problem of some water linkage from the condensate pump hose, contacted Paul Stafford, and Dan came out to install a hose clamp, which resolved the problem.
Description of Work: I received an estimate for a high efficiency (90+%) furnace. Based on the estimate, I had the work done. The furnace was installed, along with a new flue liner and cap, condensate pump & a thermostat/control unit. They also connected the existing humidifier and electronic air cleaner to the system.

+ -1 moreThey arrived on time, just slightly after 7:15AM. They asked to see all locations / work requests first and I showed them. We discussed options for the plugs in the basement and then they went to work. At one point, they ran out of connectors and I went to the local hardware store to get them. Overall, very smooth and I appreciated having the work done so quickly.
Description of Work: They came to do three jobs in the house: 1. Basement - extend electricity (plugs) along north wall 2. Fix fixture in sauna 3. Add outlet to upstairs bathroom. They were able to complete all but #2 because they didn't have a replacement fixture. The work that both men did was very good, and I was impressed by how well the outlet was added to the second bedroom with no ugly holes or anything. The additional plugs worked out very well too, Dave was able to consult with me on what should / should not work if I do use certain appliances down there.

+ 1 moreMy request for an estimate was answered quickly and scheduled within days, then the work was able to commence quite shortly thereafter. The work took two days to complete, and after we figured out the best way to run the wiring up to the attic (our house is old and none of the interior walls run all the way from the basement to the attic) they had the outlets installed in no time. We ended up with a problem with our phone jack and they came out and fixed it ASAP at no charge.
Description of Work: They ran a new electrical circuit to our severely under-powered second floor and installed several power outlets. Also installed overhead lights and switches in 3 rooms where there was no existing overhead lighting. They ran a phone line and installed the phone jack, as well.

+ 0 moreI did not ask for an estimate because we had a lot of little projects and based on prior reports, I trusted that their price would be fair. I felt good about the amount of work done for the price. They arrived on time and completed everything - even let me add on a couple of little jobs to the initial list. The electrician was very friendly and professional. He was also very informative and patient with my questions. He was careful to ask me "permission" before cutting a new hole in the wall, and tried to minimize the appearance of the work (i.e., hid everything as best he could and minimized the number of new holes and wires).
Description of Work: Stafford completed several small projects at our 1920's house that we just purchased. He fixed a bathroom fan and light that didn't work. He installed 2 new dimmer switches that were running quite hot. He rewired an outlet because we were always blowing a circuit when a hairdryer was used. Lastly, he fixed the doorbell that didn't work. I think he worked for about 3-4 hours.

+ -1 moreI don't remember now the name of the person that did the estimate, but he was very thorough in examining the home in order to consider multiple options/approaches. I felt the estimate was fair. He was very professional. I chose a different vendor for the work, but mostly due to brand/model selected and a more personal rapport with the other company. I would definitely recommend this company to others in terms of trustworthiness in their estimate/knowledge of the work.
Description of Work: Proposed work would require removal of old furnace in upstairs or home, and installation of new furnace plus central air, reusing existing ductwork. Furnace is enclosed in internal walls of home, very near to bedrooms. I asked for their opinion about removing furnace and using the heating/ac system that services the rest of the house, but was informed that that was not an ideal option.

They did a great job; everything worked, and the clean-up was meticulously done. The workers were personable and professional. Billing was easy; they completed the work and several days later I received a bill for the entire project.
Description of Work: They ran a new underground electrical wire from our home to our garage that replaced an old non-functioning line. They also added lights, outlets, switches and light fixtures to our garage.

I did not want a typical home depot light because I wanted the sensor to detect a fairly precise area and so far it is doing that.

+ -1 moreFrom my first phone call to the technician that came out I was very happy with the service, especially when they only came to wire a phone line that involved going into my attic on a very hot day & I asked them to perform the other 2 tasks when they were there. They were very happy to do so and for the work performed I though the price was very fair.
Description of Work: I needed a phone jack added into a room that didn't have one. Once they were at my house I asked them to install an exterior light on one side of my garage to match the existing one and to add an outlet to the front of my house on the outside.

+ -1 moreThe estimator came out and spent nearly an hour going through all the issues thoroughly -- they did not have the cheapest estimate, but they were far more thorough and offered solutions to problems that another company basically ignored. The workers were prompt, hard-working, and answered all my questions thoroughly. They even fixed an area that I forgot to mention during the estimate -- for no extra charge. My only problem was that they had to punch a hole in a plaster wall that no one mentioned beforehand. I know there was no other way around it, but if I'd known, I wouldn't have painted the area in advance...other than that, I would definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: Grounded several outlets, added new outlets, fixed some bad wiring in the basement.

+ 0 moreI have previously used this company. I am pleased with their work on this project. The person completing the estimate was timely, polite and informative. This was a part of a larger redecoration project and they were able to complete the job within two weeks of the estimate. A crew of two electricians spent about 5 hours on the job. They calmly handled unforeseen problems with trusses and beams in placement of the recessed light boxes. Because of these obstacles, the lights could not be evenly placed, but the electrician did a great job of making them appear to be evenly spaced. Wiring of the recessed lights and the overhead bedroom lights required them to crawl around in a small attic space on a hot and muggy day. The final electrical inspection hasn't happened yet, but I am well satisfied with the work completed.
Description of Work: Completed several lighting projects. Wired-in and installed overhead lights in three bedrooms. Replaced kitchen track lighting with recessed lighting. Replaced dining room light with new fixture and installed a new dimmer switch. Replaced recessed lighting trims in hallway. Handled obtaining permit from city for the work.

I especially appreciated that they carefully filled the soil back in along the trench they dug to put the electrical wires underground, to minimize disruption to our yard. Similarly, they ran the wires under our concrete path, without having to remove the concrete sections.
Description of Work: Electric wires from our house to garage were originally overhead, 8 to 15' above ground. We hired Stafford Co. to run the wires underground for safety purposes because there are many tree limbs around the yard.

He suggested that I could save some money by purchasing the fans myself. Micah, the electrician who did the work, was prompt, courteous and hard working. He installed 2 Panasonic vent fans, one with a light. The installation went smoothly, the fans are very quiet and my bathrooms were cleaned up when the work was completed.

All 3 of them were unable to even determine whether we had 60 or 100 amp service and all of them bid between $1,200 -$1,500. When Paul came over to bid the job, it only took him 20 minuets to look at everything and printed me an estimate and scheduled the job on the spot. When Dave came out to do the work, he was very courteous and very efficient. He was also more than happy to answer a few other questions we had about the electrical work in our house. He also disconnected and removed some low-hanging wires which fed power to our garage from our house. And then re-routed the power through a line we buried our selves last summer. All in all we were VERY VERY pleased with this company and have and will continue to recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Replaced my 100 Amp fuse panel with a 100 Amp breaker panel.

Electrician ran into some unexpected wiring weirdness in one bathroom, which he sorted out and he remained cheerful despite the delay in progress. He was also meticulous about mess and cleaned everything up very well. I'd use them again.
Description of Work: Replaced exterior lights, wired in exterior outlet, removed old bathroom fixtures, installed new ones, replaced bathroom exhaust fans, replaced ceiling lights in other areas of house, and other work.
