We did end up going with a company who came in with a lower bid. However, Kris, who came out was extremely professional and we thought very highly of their company.

+ 0 moreThey were scheduled to start at 7-7:30a and they showed up right in that time frame. The installer then got to work on installing the can lights. When he was done I had some questions about the lightbulbs and he was more than happy to switch different types in and out so I could see the difference. He then installed the closet lights and again was more than happy to answer any and all questions I had. He also took a look at the electric in the garage since I didn't think it was right, and sure enough some of it was wired wrong so the installer took care of it. It took a little longer to do the garage then was quoted, but I wasn't charged for the extra time. Overall I was extremely happy with the entire process, from the friendly quote person, to the installer, to the actually work done. I was so happy with them I have already scheduled them to come out for another job.
Description of Work: Had 6 can lights with a dimmer switch installed in the living room, and also had 2 closet lights with switches installed. I also had them look at my garage wiring.

From our research we had read about high velocity being noisy and Dan explained the causes of the noise and make it clear that wouldn't be a problem. George and team, showed up each morning on time, walked us through the day's activities, and left us a note each night with progress and schedule for the next day. We loved this experience and can't wait for a hot day to try out our new system.

I went with this company because Kris, who does their bids, was more confident about doing this big job and had good additional ideas. He itemized every piece of work and gave each an individual price and said I could throw out anything I didn't want to do. They didn't have to do as much work on some items and credited me in those cases. And of course we added a few things along the way, and we paid more for those. We had two electricians (Dave and Adam) at our house for about 11 working days. They were a pleasure to have around and did great work. I gave them an A for price in part because of their responsiveness, punctuality and professionalism. In other words, it was a lot of money but the extra value of working with them made it a good value.
Description of Work: Replaced fuse box with breakers. Upgraded to 200 Amps. Moved service entrance underground. Replaced or installed over 20 light fixtures (inside and out) and ceiling fans. Rewired entire 2nd floor and attic. Installed sub panel on 2nd floor. Ran media cable (network, cable, phone) to 5 rooms and installed media panel in basement. Rewired much of basement. Converted multiple receptacles to GFCI. Installed vent fan with light in 2nd floor bath. Rewired, replaced & grounded many receptacles throughout the house. Added receptacles and circuits in a few places. Moved switch for garbage displosal from under sink to wall. Added outdoor receptacle with indoor switch. Hard wired smoke detectors throughout the house. Moved dryer, moved receptacle and rerouted vent. A number of other things.

Description of Work: They fixed a power outage that had been caused by a blown fuse. I called another service out for emergency repair and they could not find the problem. Chris, the owner, came out to give an assessment; he initially could not locate the problem either. He did however, come back with help and they were able to get it taken care of in an hour. In the end, a space heater was blowing out the circuit. Their was also a dangerous, exposed circuit in the kitchen light. They fixed both issues.

+ 1 moreI promptly received an estimate from Peg via email. Everyone we have spoken with has been very nice, prompt and professional. Some projects we decided to wait to do in the spring and some my husband decided he could do to save money. They were happy to adjust the estimate and work with us. We were able to have Micah come over a few days after we approved the estimate. For both visits Micah called before he came over, as requested. He was on time and completed everything is a very timely manner. He didn't leave a mess, he was very nice--in fact, we enjoyed talking with him. He's smart, honest and very personable--my husband and I loved hearing about his other interests and talents--like cooking! We intend to have him come back to complete our list of projects in the near future. Stafford Electric and Micah are officially "our electricians."
Description of Work: We had a number of projects to do on our 1940's home. We couldn't figure out what several switches controlled. Micah identified them and changed some switches to control outlets/lights where we wanted them. Some outlets/switches didn't work or were old. He installed new plates and toggles on several switch plates, turned a switch into a dimmer, replaced old outlets, installed a foyer light and a bedroom fan. Our old house has some unusual and complicated wiring--when we discovered that Micah had mistakenly disconnected the wire to our outside front door light, he returned promptly and fixed it free of charge--their work is guaranteed.

He was one of the best workmen we've ever had. Efficient, clever, neat, friendly, inventive. Did a terrific job. I'd hire them again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Stafford was the electrical subcontractor on a major remodel of a 1907 home. Installed lighting throughout new kitchen, mudroom and half bath, ran power to garage, installed exterior lights and receptacles, ran a new circuit and receptacles to 2nd floor, installed lighting in basement. Because they were a subcontractor, I don't know the specific cost. Figure above is guess. My sense is that their prices are fair: Not high nor low.

+ -1 moreI have an older home that needed a few fixes. I had gotten my wires crossed, so to speak, when trying to replace a ceiling light fixture myself. This resulted in a circuit that didn't work even though the fuse wasn't blown. So I decided to let the experts handle several replacement ceiling lights. I provided the fixtures. I also needed more outlets in the kitchen, so the unused 220 wiring from a long-gone electric stove was converted to 110 for my refrigerator. There was an outlet in the basement that I wasn't sure was safe. This was tested and updated with a GFCI outlet. he doorbell circuit was OK, so the electrician provided and installed a new bell switch. When I asked, the electrician gave me advice regarding work I intended to do replacing a dimmer switch for halogen track lights. Micah, the electrician, was punctual, polite, knowledgeable, professional, and personable. He removed all trash and said much of it would be recycled. All I had to do was sweep afterwards.
Description of Work: Four replacement light fixtures were installed. An unused 220 volt outlet was converted to 110. A GFCI replacement receptacle was installed. Troubleshooting of a circuit that wasn't working. The front doorbell wasn't working and it was tested and the switch replaced. Parts were $60.35; $25 was deducted from the bill with the Angie's List coupon.

+ -1 moreVery good service! Steve arrived right on time (they told me between 7 and 7:30 am; I asked for closer to 7:30 and that's when he showed up). The day before the appointment, Peg (the scheduler) called to make sure the problem wasn't something I could fix myself (i.e., reset the GFI, check the circuit breaker...) to potentially avoid an unnecessary expense. Good customer service. See above for the rest of the story.
Description of Work: I hired this contractor to fix a problem with the bathroom light switch. The problem took about five minutes to solve, but since I had paid for an hour of time (the minimum), Steve, the technician, fixed a couple other annoying electrical problems and offered input on some other electrical work I want to have done. If and when I decide to do that work, I will use Paul Stafford Electric. I chose this company because all the reviewers (all of them) said they would use this company again. I would, too. Before Steve tallied up the bill, he asked if I had any coupons. I said, "doesn't Angie's List have a coupon?" He said, "I think so," and waited while I went to the computer and printed it (otherwise it would have been $127.46: $125.00 for the hour of time and $2.46 for the 3-way switch he replaced).

+ -1 moreI was charged $155 for an electrician and apprentice to remove a light and install a thermostat which took 15 minutes. I was then charged an additional $50 to re-install. Also charged?$264 to rewire a light, was never contacted to tell me what the cost of repair would be and why. This took over a month with me having to phone twice to find out what was happening. I was told initially that it would take about 2 weeks. I phoned the company and spoke to the billing person about the apprentice charge which she?removed from the bill.?I also told her that I was surprised at the amount to rewire and that I was unhappy with the service.?That afternoon I received a phone call from the office manager.?She reduced my bill and explained the service on my light fixture.?While I did not have a great experience with this company, I understand that sometimes things just go wrong. I would be willing to?try them again because of their concern for my satisfaction with their services.?
Description of Work: Someone from the company removed an existing light fixture for repair by an associated company, took it to "Vintage Lighting" (company owned by Paul's wife according to someone at the company),installed a programmable thermostat, and re-installed the repaired light.

Overall, they are superb in this respect, and since I've found that to be one of most consistently aggravating aspects of getting contractor work done, I'm very appreciative of that. The work itself was done exactly as planned, when it was planned. Perfect! I've already recommended this company to at least one other person.
Description of Work: There were three work items: 1) install a baseboard electric heater in a room; 2) diagnose and resolve a circuit overload in the living-dining room area of the house; 3) install a hallway light fixture. After getting an estimate and talking more with the estimator, we concluded that we needed more diagnostic information on the circuit overload issue and for now they would just install the baseboard heater and light fixture.
