They were going to charge me extra for coming Saturday night versus Sunday morning so I decided to go the night without heat. On Sunday, he showed up on time and fixed the furnace. He did not provide the Angie's list discount because it was the weekend.

+ -1 moreThe owner arrived, with an estimator. I was given a price, told it was so high because of 1 aspect of the job. Decided to eliminate that portion, but was only given 400 off estimate. Work was done by 3 different men, at different times, none aware of what the former had been thinking. 1 man was at the building and took 1hr. to find my unit. (at an hourly 110@) rate. Final straw, I was quoted 950.00 to plug in my stove and dishwasher, some additional work was required , but I paid an excellent electrician 1/4 paul's estimate.
Description of Work: I live in a loft space, and needed to have some conduit removed/reworked as well as some kitchen remodel work new construction done.

We'd had rain and snow over the previous 24 hours, and I appreciated that he made an extra effort not to track anything in. He answered any questions I had and was very careful to contain and clean up any debris. He finished in the expected time, showed me how the new arc fault breaker should be tested, and was off. I really like dealing with Paul Stafford Electric, and will certainly use them again.
Description of Work: Installed 2 outlets, a new circuit and an arc fault breaker, as well as wiring and installing a ceiling fan.

Description of Work: My furnace was making some weird noise and I searched on Angie's List for some service. I found PAUL STAFFORD ELECTRIC & HEATING COOLING INC and they came out to check the furnace. They came on time and was very professional. Dan was the service guy. He revealed to me that I had some cracks in my burners and the noise was caused by the vent ducts. Dan was very knowledgable and advised that I should replace my furnace in a near future since it wasn't producing any CO2. He also advise that I shouldn't have a humidifier install until I got the new furnace. He also sent some brochures on the different models that I should consider when making a new purchase. I liked that he wasn't pushy on selling a new furnace but instead educated me on my current situation. I signed up for their yearly heating and AC checkup plan.

I got an e-mailed estimate within a day, and he also followed up by e-mail and gave me a modified estimate when I changed some of the work I wanted. Once I had my light fixtures, I was able to schedule the work within a few days. The electrician was prompt, pleasant, and cleaned up well.
Description of Work: They put in a new outlet, and replaced one indoor and one outdoor lighting fixture.

+ -1 moreScheduled appointment from 3-5pm. Left work early to be available for the repair. I had to call at 4:45 to confirm that someone was still coming out, I did receive a call back that they would be there in about a half hour. They arrived at 6:30! I understand there was a snow storm, but I should have received a call at some point letting me know their situation. The service was fast and they fixed the problems I was having once they arrived. Also gave me some tips on how to avoid breaker shorts in the future. Overall service was great, the lack of communication decreased my satisfaction.
Description of Work: Fixed a dead short and rewired a 3 way switch.

+ -1 moreOverall, it went very well. See my earlier report on this company and know that the company's responsiveness and acceptance of responsibility is worth its weight in gold.
Description of Work: I had submitted an earlier report in Oct. 08 that noted significant difficulties with their system. Because of that report, they called and were quite apologetic and offered a credit on the bill. We agreed to it and they came back to install two fans. That job went very well. Dave was on time, knowledgeable and very helpful. There was a small problem with a remote and they came back again and cheerfully fixed the problem. From the outset the workmanship and customer service was top shelf. It's pretty clear that with this company the customer will be treated fairly and that the work done is of high quality.

+ 1 moreFirst they came out and gave me a quote. He was very punctual. They held to their estimate, so the cost was consistent to what I thought it would be. They completed the job in a timely manner. The person that came out to do the work was not attentive to detail. I had to have him redo a light because it was completely off mark. He didn't seem like he was delivering the quality I expected based on other reviews. He had to come back to complete it because he didn't know how to complete an element in the fuse box. He didn't clean up well after himself. For example, he had to remove a ceiling tile, and when he removed it, he was just going to leave it exposed, and he wasn't even going to cut another tile to make sure the job was completed. I almost had to feel that I had to supervise him to make sure that job was done right.
Description of Work: Installed 6 bucket lights, a dimmer switch and two ceiling speakers.

+ 1 moreThe service was excellent. Steve was scheduled to come between 7 and 7:30am. At 6:59 I woke up and noticed his van parked out front. He said he was waiting until it looked like people were awake to ring the doorbell. That was considerate. He was able to fix the ceiling fan, which was great. He was careful and courteous and did a great job on all the other random things we needed done. People usually leave big messes behind, but that was not the case here. I highly recommend.
Description of Work: Installed a light in a closet that previously had an exposed bulb. Fixed ceiling fan, added an outlet in the basement, installed spotlight (and switch) on exterior of garage. Evaluated pendant light that no longer worked. Took it down after it was determined it would cost more to fix than replace.

+ 0 moreThe lived up to their reputation: prompt, professional and very efficient. I had gotten an estimate from another company and was told that it would be a very messy job and possibly take a few days to complete because the vents had to go through old plaster board. They also said they would have to cut through my vintage tile work to install the on/off switches. Then I called Stafford and got a completely different scenario: simple job, a few hours, no need to install new switches because they could use the current ones. The folks at Paul Stafford even suggested I go with the energy efficient "whisper" vent (which I did) to save on electricity and because they were so quiet. It went as smoothly as predicted. In fact, it only took three hours from start to finish. I now have fog free bathrooms!
Description of Work: Vent fans installed in upper level bathrooms of brick 1939 home. Venting had to go through attic and roof.

+ -1 moreVery good. Person writing up the estimate was very helpful, made sure he understood the job requirements, answered all our questions and explained the process. Estimate was lower than other estimated we gathered (although I rated the price a B, because I still feel it was a little high for the amount of work). We had to reschedule a couple times because the work could not be completed until other work was finished. They were very accommodating to our needs. Work was completed with no issues. Inspection passed on first attempt. Would hire again.
Description of Work: Pulled the permit. Removed some old wiring that the purpose was unknown for. Installed new outlet and circuit, for microwave in kitchen. Installed new outlet and circuit for dishwasher. Rewired existing switch to a new light. Had the inspection to finalize the permit.

+ -1 moreI got quotes from the top 5 furnace and A/C contractors on Angie's List. Paul Stafford was one of the 5 that I asked to provide a quote for a new furnace and A/C. I was impressed that they sent me an e-mail to confirm the appointment ahead of time. Dan, came out to do the estimate. He was very nice. My only concern was when he said I needed a liner on the existing flu. Currently the furnace and hot water heater use the same flu for venting. An energy efficient furnace is vented differently and would not use that flu. According to Dan a liner would need to be added the current flu to make the diameter small, if only the gas hot water heater was to be using it. The flu needed to be smaller for it to draft properly. The other companies I got quotes from did not agree with this. I also called my city to see if this was required by code. It was not. Dan was going to e-mail me a quote in 3 days, but I never received it. After a couple of weeks I called. They kind of chastised me for not calling sooner and sent it (re-sent it according to them).Unfortunately, I had decided to go with another company. Maybe I should have called sooner, but I would have thought if they wanted my business they should have followed up with me. Their quote was competitive, if you throw out the cost of the liner.
Description of Work: I asked them to provide a quote for a new energy efficient furnace and air conditioner.

+ 0 moreThey were very easy to deal with and very prompt each time they sent someone out to do the work. I'm not an electrical expert but they seemed to do a good job and it passed inspection. It took them about five minutes to install the ceiling fan, which made me wish we had tried to do it ourselves! At least this way we know it won't fall down.
Description of Work: They grounded about 10 electrical outlets, brought some problems up to code and wired our daughter's room for a ceiling fan, then came back and installed it.

+ -1 moreThe electricians arrived promptly and went straight to work. One dug the trench while the other prepared the electrical components. The electrical service was run through conduit to the new outlet which is securely fastened to a sturdy stake hidden by bushes. The trench was filled in and the work area swept clean. The workers removed their shoes when accessing the electrical panel inside basement.
Description of Work: Extend electrical service through basement wall, bury electrical service to new outlet on far side of patio. The electrical service was needed to be close to a water feature. The new outlet will also be very handy for other outdoor electrical needs.

+ -1 moreQuality of the work performed by the electrician, Dave, was terrific; he was a real pro. Quickly diagnosed and completed jobs. The problem was in what happened next. We wanted to alter how our ceiling fan worked and that required ordering a part. We were to be billed once that part came in and the work done. The initial work was done in May and we didn't hear from them again until approximately August - and we owed them money, making that even more unusual. They did call in August and left a message. We called them back, left a message and didn't hear from then for about six more weeks. At that point we spoke with "Jessie," who said they couldn't find the part, whereupon we simply had the bill sent to us and we just sent it in this week. This was not an "urgent" issue for us or we would have been more assertive. Bottom line: Dave was great, work done was terrific, Jessie was pleasant, but something went awry with their tracking/customer service system.
Description of Work: Repaired dimmer switch. Rewired light switches. Wired another outlet.
