Brian arrived on time. He said the appointment was made amonth ago and wasn't sure what he was supposed to do. I reminded him it was the Attice inspection/insulation Big deal. He then showed me cold spots with his device but didn't really have suggestion. I thought part of the deal was to check the attic insulation. When I asked he said he would if I wanted that. He did check it and found it to be adequate but told me I should have more. He was knowledgeable and polite. He pointed out deficiencies but didn't raally suggest solutions or present a proposal.

From Brian who ran the appointment: I guess that I am a bit surprised that I would get less than an A from Mr [remove member name]. When I arrived I sat down with him and asked what his concerns were as he had set the appt the previous month. I provided him with information on Insulation, ventilation, and ice dams. I checked his soffit venting, did an IR scan of all of his windows (all 2 yrs new), walls and the entire ceiling. I also did an attic insulation ventilation inspection and took pictures of what he had in the attic for insulation and shared them with him. He had approx. 10-12 inches of insulation and I made a very specific recommendation with (pricing) that it should be increased to a minimum of 16-3/4 in and we would bring it up to about 20" for no additional cost. I also explained how with the attic air sealing it would decrease drafts into the house and reduce his heating and cooling costs. I also checked his water heater for quality of insulation which good. He was concerned that one room was cooler than the rest of the house and I explained how this was affected by a full wall of windows, fireplace, exterior door, and that it sat over an unheated crawl space. I mentioned how he could improve air circulation by leaving the furnace fan on which said he was already doing. I also talked with him about insulation options for the ceiling of the crawlspace (spray batt, and board). I also gave him a couple DIY tips to help improve air flow in the crawlspace to keep it warmer and thus keep the floor above warmer as well. I spent about an hour with him and answered or gave an opinion on, or a recommedation for every concern or question that he had.I guess that a B is always possible from any inspection but I would not have guessed that it would have been this one.

Only 23 minutes were spent at the house and only the attic was inspected. I called the company back and was informed the energy audit included attic inspection, blower test, inspection of doors and windows (we had new windows already but wanted them checked), plus "a whole list of things". The two people we talked with and met with were nice but not at all what we expected or were told.

From the Owner; My unanswered email to (removed member name) in response to this: I would like to first thank you for your honest review. With out that we will never know what needs fixing within our company. As the owner I am sadden to hear of your experience. Clearly Chris was not prepared when he got to your home with what was included within this deal. There is no excuse for that. This has happened three times this year and all in the last month. I have very well trained individuals for your particular needs. I get that we may not deserve a second chance. However, if I were to set up another appointment to have Jim come out and take a second look would you allow us that? It of course would be free of charge and I would not expect an update on the review. I built this company to help individuals and to be the best we can be. This is embarrassing to say the very least. Thank you for your time.

It was not good. They did very little work. They didn't use the time to come up with bid for other work they wanted to do for us. There was almost nothing they could do without selling up. They continued to call for us for months...so that one was not a good experience at all. I won't use them again.

From the owner: I am still confused as to what has happened in this situation. We utilize an internal phone system and can pull up outgoing phone calls from each of our staff. We are not showing these calls that she is speaking of. I have also sent an email to be sure that this is the right company and asked her for more details so that I can appropriately find a solution and resolution to this situation. I have heard nothing back. I would like to know what happened here so that I can deal with this internally.

Here's the Deal we paid for ($300 value): $89 for a comprehensive home energy audit (typically lasts three to four hours): In and out in 45 minutes, had to come back to do the blower test Infrared camera scan thermal analysis assesses conditioned and unconditioned locations in home for convective, conductive, and radiant energy loss: Not performed to my knowledge Blower door air infiltration diagnostics measure the level of air infiltration in your home: Came back to complete Equipment diagnostics test and analysis of appliances against manufacturer specifications for energy consumption: Looked at our water heater, which we already had a bid on to replace. Did not look at any other appliance. No diagnostic tests run. Includes inspection for mold, asbestos, moisture intrusion, and gas and carbon monoxide leaks: Noted moisture intrusion and mold on some windows. Energy performance report with recommendations for improving efficiency: Verbally suggested replacing window(s)--all are new within past 3-11 years, suggested adding some insulation in attic side walls
Description of Work: Good reponse in scheduling energy audit. Showed up a few minutes early. Looked at our windows, sidewall/attic insulation, and water heater. Performed blower test at later date.

From the Owner: I have had time to sit down and talk to Matt on this. Where this entire deal went wrong started with him not being prepared. He confused the deal with another that doesn't include the blower door. Its no excuse on his part. Second part of this deal that went wrong was the deal itself that was somehow proofed internally with detailed expectations that couldn't be met. The original deal never included anything about us being out there 3-4 hours or doing any sort of check on appliances outside of checking the hot water heater. These audits don't anywhere near 3-4 hours. I have talked with angieslist and from what we are seeing we will have to keep a better eye on what is going out. Again, sorry for your experience. It is not like us to be unprepared. If you have any further questions or if there is anything I can personally do, please call.

Jim from Snap Construction was very proactive in calling/emailing to set up an appointment for my Home Energy Audit. He was also willing to work with me when my schedule changed. The service was very informative too. Jim took his time to show me all of the places that my home was losing heat and also providing insight as to how to fix the issues. Some of the deficiencies in my home's envelope were normal and obvious but it was good to get confirmation of just how good/bad it was. Other items Jim pointed out were completely new to me and eye opening. I am self employed where I do home improvement design. My business is an Angie's List Super Service Award Winner four years in a row and I learned a thing or two about good service from Snap. I will probably tackle some of the simple solutions Jim pointed out myself but very likely will hire Snap for the jobs where I don't have the expertise or equipment. I will certainly recommend Snap Construction to my clients who would need their services.

Ordered the deal on 1/5. Was contacted on 1/7 by Snap noting they had received my order and that they were busy. Was then contacted and told that they were not properly staffed to handle the demand and that I would have to wait a couple of weeks before scheduling happened. I was then contacted on 1/17 via email and told I would get scheduled ASAP. After another week without a response, I emailed and asked for a refund as I had lost confidence at that point. Although they didn't perform any service, they have been respectful and did not hassle me when I asked for a refund. I appreciate that, hence the C instead of an F grade. I think they are a good company, for whatever reason this just didn't work out for us.

From the Owner: I know that we have recently gone through some growing pains and our insulation process has become more popular than we would have expected. However, I don't believe that you should have been strung out for that long. I don't have the answers on why you weren't added to the schedule immediately and will find that out. We have had issues with scheduling and recently introduced a new system that will allow us to put you in line on the schedule for the future and watch that schedule in case it changes for your field rep. It also includes an option to have automatic email updates as changes happen in that person's schedule days or weeks before your date. Communication is something we take seriously and with our new system we hope to conquer this problem. I am sorry for your experience. I am the owner of the company and if there is anything I can do please feel free to call in and ask for Ryan.

Based on Angie's List reviews, I purchased a voucher for Snap. I received an immediate reply (within a couple hours) from my original contact asking the nature of the services I would like performed. Based on my reply, I was passed onto their "windows and doors" expert. I seemed to have gotten lost in the shuffle as my attempts to contact my new contractor went unanswered. So, I contacted my original contact who seemed genuinely interested in my business and convinced me to stay with the new contractor. Once our schedules lined up, the contractor came out to the house and seemed quite knowledgable about his trade. He was very pleasant. He got back to me with a quote in a couple of days. The quote was around the $2000 mark I was anticipating. Paperwork was signed/paid and a tentative install date was agreed upon (a few weeks later as the windows and door needed to be ordered). The day before the install date, I still had not heard from the contractor. I had to contact him and ask if I should plan on being home for the install. I was informed a couple hours later my order had not yet arrived and the install date would not go ahead as planned. Once my order had arrived we scheduled a new install date. As that date neared, it became clear that it was going to be entirely too cold to install on that date. TOTALLY understandable. So, we rescheduled. As the new install date neared, I was told there was some sort of issue with my contractor and my account was being given to another (third) contact. The third contact got in touch with me nearly immediately. I had my new door and windows installed within a week. The two gentlemen who installed my door and windows were very professional and quite efficient. I was very pleased with their work. I have not heard back from anyone at Snap since the two gentlemen installed everything. I assume the account has been closed...??? Overall, I was pleased with the work that was done, but I feel like I fell through the cracks. I have a few other projects that I will be doing in the near future, and I was hoping to use this experience as a test for those projects. I will be looking for a new contractor to perform these other tasks as I imagine I would go crazy with the lack of communication on future projects.

From the owner: Hello [member name removed], I will take the brunt of the blame on this. We have struggled for the last year on a CRM system that was heavily pitched on us. I should have done more homework. The bad news is that you saw us during our struggle with this software and the 1k customers we served this year. The better news for us is that we are launching a new software program at the end of the month that will allow you to see our calendar, your orders, your install dates, photos on site as they happen, and any additional notes that are added. It also allows our customers to add their own notes or questions and schedule any warranty claims or change orders if they like. I didn't start this company for you to have that sort of experience. It pains me to here. I promise to work hard to make sure that things like this won't happen in the future. Thank you for taking a chance on us and if there is anything I can do in the future please ask for me by name, Ryan Nelson

I purchased the Snap Construction energy audit for $89. I'm not sure it was worth it. The man that came to do the audit was fairly knowledgable. He knew what he was doing and why. He had some suggestions as to what I could do. However, most of what he told me had already been covered in the home inspection I had done before I bought the town home. There were a couple things that irritated me. 1. The pilot light on my hot water heater went out while we did the blower door test. I had to pay a plumber $75 to come light it on a Sunday because I didn't realize it had gone out. 2. When he went to inspect the attic insulation through the access in my master bedroom walk in closet, about 5 pounds of blown in pink fiberglass insulation came flying into my closet. Pink bits all over my clothes, which I'm still finding a month later. Yes, he swept up what he could, and I immediately vacuumed up what I could. Had either of us anticipated the insulation shower, I could have moved/covered my clothes to reduce the cleanup. 3. I was expecting a report that listed out things I could do to tighten up my town home, which was promised early the following week. Instead, I got a bid on how much it would cost for them to do the work. That came over 10 days later. Then I emailed to ask that the bid be broken out by labor and materials. I haven't heard back from them. I believe I wasted $89 and a couple hours of my time.

From the Owner; Hello [member name removed], I am sorry for your experience with us. Your deal didn't include the blower door test and it was something that he did free of charge. This is usually a $250 test or more with any provider. However, he should have left his inspection with you including the findings. You are right that your home inspection covered a lot of what we are doing. We didn't know when you purchased this that you also had a home inspection. Jim is a BPI certified energy contractor and very good at his job. Thank you for the feedback on the mess he created. In the future he will need to set up better expectations that we do not know what is behind the door. 99% of the time there is no insulation on the door as it has been opened at some point. We apologize for the pilot light issue, it is not something we have come across before in doing the blower door testing. The contract you have from Jim is all line items and should have been broken out. I will talk to him about that. What we have learned from this is to improve on expectations, be sure that the literature is dropped, and start checking pilot lights after blower door test. With how cold it has been I am sure that was irritating to deal with. Thank you for your feedback.

Snap was professional from start to finish. Chris was assigned to manage our project, and was fairly prompt any time I attempted to contact him. He originally inspected our roof, and then was also present when insurance adjuster inspected the roof. Once it was decided we would put on a new roof, we selected the color and worked with Chris to select the day the job would be done. Chris was very helpful in assisting us during all aspects of the project. Despite a couple delays due to weather, we were able to get two days scheduled for the work crew to complete the job. The roof was done promptly and all clean up was thorough. After the roof was done, the window wraps were done separately. I do think Snap could have been a little better in communicating when this work was to be finished. The individual doing the work was delayed because of weather, however, he did complete the job efficiently. I believe the downspout is still to be completed, winter came and likely stopped this work from being finished. Again, I wish the communication was a bit better in when the wraps and downspout work was to be completed, but I believe these to be less important than the roof work. Overall, I think Snap did a great job and would hire them again.

It turned out pretty well. We paid an additional amount for the parts that we needed. I would recommend them. My only complaint was that there was some miscommunication. A sales representative came out first and we thought that that was the person doing work. So my husband was here for that. Another person was coming out later and he couldn’t come out again. When that second person came to do the work, it seemed that some of the information was lost. The sales person was supposed to relay all the information to the person doing the work but some of it got lost. I don’t know all the information because my husband was supposed to take care of it. It worked out in the end, everything that we wanted to get done got done. But I would have preferred if that had been a little bit smoother.
