I called Ron to get an estimate several months prior to the work. He responded that evening and came out to give the estimate that weekend. After receiving the estimate, we chose to hold off on the replacement until we saved up a bit. The skylight we were replacing had water damage around it when we bought the house, but we had not noticed any active leaking. A couple months after the estimate, my husband got on the roof to clear tree overgrowth away from the house. That night we had a big rainstorm and water began leaking through the skylight and into the house at a pretty fast rate. I called Ron at about 7 or 8 in the evening to leave a message. To my relief and surprise, he called me back within 10 minutes! I told him that we needed the replacement ASAP, and he agreed to come check out the damage the next day and let us know when he could get the parts and begin the job. At the initial estimate, he had quoted about 2 weeks to fit me in to his schedule, which seemed reasonable. However, after taking a look the next day, he let us know that he would be able to return the following day and complete the entire job! Everything was completed as described, and we couldn't have been more pleased with the result. He did notice a bit of roof damage around the skylight, which he was able to repair himself and charged us a small amount for the extra work. Ron was great and seemed very knowledgable about his work. We would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for skylight repair or replacement.

Ron was puntual, clean, and a perfectionist; which in my estimation are good things to have in a contractor.

Ron replaced two older skylights in a house we recently purchased. He came out immediately to give us an estimate which was fair. Then was able to start in less than a week installing them. We liked them so much we had him come back a week later and replace a third one that we had not intended to do. He is the local service rep for Velux which is the brand of skylight so he is very knowledgeable and will be the one to service them should anything go wrong. The whole process was very painless and very quick.

Ron came out the same day we called to give us an estimate and he replaced the skylights with nicer new ones in a couple of days. Very reasonable pricing and very fast service... good since we had a broken skylight1

I had 2 very large and very old skylights that needed replacement asap. I got three bids that were similar in price. I chose Ron to do the work because he put the most thought into his bid. I was anxious about this project because my existing skylights were very large and new windows on the market did not fit the roof opening. Rather than just replace the existing skylights with smaller skylights he suggested putting 2 windows in each existing opening--one fixed window on top with one opening window on the bottom and trimming them out nicely. No work was necessary in shrinking the existing hole in the roof (no new sheetrock, etc.). This was a huge relief to me. He was able to work around what already existed. That way I'd get just as much light with the advantage of added ventilation as well. Work was completed quickly, efficiently and in a very professional manner. I got exactly what we had discussed. There were no surprises. He was very diligent in communicating with me as the project went on. I would definitely hire Ron to do work for me again. He's a nice guy on top of it all. :)

Highly recommended. Ron responded almost immediately via email - and on a weekend! We needed to replace an old bubble skylight with a new one. He provided a free estimate and they came back and measured that same afternoon. He acquired the skylight, found matching shingles from our roofer, and installed it two days later. Ron is very profession, yet personable. The new skylight looks great. A great experience - highly recommended.

The company was referred by a neighbor. The owner came out and made the bid and had the work done within a week. The quality of the installation was excellent, and he took care to clean up and protect the surrounding areas while he did the work.

It turned out fine. It was good. He seemed to know what he was doing. He replaced the drywall that was damaged. There was still some finishing work that I need to do, but I was told that upfront.

He came when he said he would and the installation went well. The area was clean when he was done. The new window does not leak! The price he quoted was the price billed.

Ron was great to work with. He showed up on time, and completed the work as indicated. We had a problem develop, which was created by the previous company that installed the skylights in 1990. The previous installer made the holes to small, which eventually caused a water leak. Ron was able not only to see but also explain and correct the problem. Ron was also able diagnose problems with our old skylights that previous contractors missed. Ron did a wonderful job finishing the trim around the skylights. My wife and I are thoroughly impressed with the overall work and professionalism that he demonstrated. Ron was great to work with and I would highly recommend him. Just as a side note if you don't use Ron you probably will see him in the end anyway, because he is the factory "go to guy" for correcting mistakes made by other installers.

I had an old center-pivot skylight replaced in an apartment I own. The tenant complained of intermittent leaking and occasional dust / debris from the frame around the skylight. Ron Jolin was listed on the manufacturer?s web site as the only 5 star dealer in the area. I sent Ron (owner of Northern Lights Skylights) an email and he responded a couple of hours later with a phone call. Ron came out that night on his way home and gave me an estimate and price breakdown right then and there. The skylight was a stock size but had to be ordered. Everything was agreed upon and arranged on a handshake. It?s nice to see this kind of business relationship is still around. The skylight arrived on schedule and Ron arrived at the time we agreed upon. He worked quickly and cleanly and I was completely comfortable leaving him alone in the apartment while I went to work. I left a check on the table and when I arrived home, the work was completed and there was nothing left unfinished. Overall I am very happy with the work Ron performed and although it was more expensive that I had anticipated, I believe I have a great value in the product and workmanship, not to mention a ten-year warranty! I would recommend Northern Lights Skylights to anyone looking for a quality installation.

The job went very well. Ron came out the day after I called him to provide me with an estimate. I wanted to know if my skylight could be repaired or if it needed to be replaced. Please note that I didn't find Ron on Angie's list (though I have since located companies that specialize in skylights on the list, including Ron! ... dah!) ... one of the roofing companies on Angie's list provided his name/contact information ... they had used him for jobs that required repair of skylights, since they just replace skylights. Ron is very easy to work with and does a great job. I decided to go with Ron due to his skylight expertise and willingness to work with/around my schedule to complete the job (weekends or after my work hours). As it turned out we scheduled for a Monday I had off and he finished the job the next night ... the sanding and painting (after the mudd had dried). Ron did an excellent job of ensuring that the dust from sanding the "mudd" didn't get all over my kitchen by hanging plastic around the skylight tunnel ... great job!!

Great experience with Ron. Our skylights were not in good shape as the seals were broken causing some cloudiness and moisture issues and they were part of our home when we purchased it about 17 years ago. We decided it was time to replace them and called Ron. He is a master apprentice with Velux (one of the only "5 star" installers). We found him to be extremely knowledgable about what needed to be done. I also believe he gave us a little bit better price to get the job. He was an extremely hard worker arriving at our home at 6:00 A.M. in an effort to work during the cooloer part of the day. Everything went without a hitch. He also installed shades for us on the inside of the skylights. Great experience.

Ron was very friendly and energetic. He provided an estimate promptly. The skylights themselves are of a good quality. However, we seemed to have a number of misunderstandings. First, the interior portion of the skylights were to have been painted, but once they were installed, I discovered he hadn't painted them. Secondly, while we clearly discussed shade options for the skylights during the estimating process, Ron indicated later on that they hadn't been included. He ended up getting the shades for me at no cost, but suggested that I paint the skylights and he would install the shades "for free". I ended up feeling slightly manipulated, since my understanding was that both items were to have been included from the beginning. While it would have taken Ron a small amount of time to prime and paint the skylights before they were installed, him not doing it made me 4 hours of work or so. The last item I took issue with was the quality of the texturing that Ron did to blend the new skylights in with the surrounding ceiling texture. At first, the tunnel that was created for the skylights were visibly askew, not plumb from one side of the skylight to the other. When I pointed this out (which I don't think I should have had to do, people should inspect their own work), Ron came back to correct it. However, the texturing is noticeably different than the surrounding area. To summarize - when I pay someone $3000 to do a job, I expect that I won't have to do a bunch of cleanup work when they've left. I ended up having to paint the skylights, and if I expect to have a smooth transition between the skylight and the surrounding area, I will need to retexture my ceiling. And furthermore, I felt as though I had to struggle to get what I got! I was surprised, as Ron was pretty well rated on Angie's List, but I'll be calling someone else next time.

A great experience. Ron is an expert on skylights. All Ron's reviews on Angie's List were A+ and he is also the authorized repairer for a large skylight manufacturer. He thoroughly examined my 3 skylights and determined why there was water leaking. (One skylight was replaced with the wrong size skylight just a couple months earlier during a full re-roofing by another contractor. Two others weren't even real skylights; just window glass jerry-rigged into skylights.) Ron replaced 2 of the skylights in very short time. There was a wait for the third because it was a special-order size. Ron's work was excellent and I recommend him 100%.

I searched this site, narrowed to 3 contractors, and was going to call them all, but I spoke with Ron first. He agreed to come out that day, went up on the roof to check, measured, recommended an upgrade, gave me an estimate. So I hired him and it went very well. The new skylight is a much higher quality unit and matches the house perfectly. It was quite a bit more than the insurance company allowed, but that window was garbage and this one is really nice, so what can you do.

He was great. When he came out to give me the estimate he was on time and was very honest about the work he was going to be doing. He kept me well informed as to the nature of the job and all the good and bad that came with it. He also went above and beyond and did some mud work afterwords to help with clean up. I was very impressed.

Ron came the same day we called to make an estimate. He went back to the shop and found that he had a skylight in stock. He came back that afternoon and replaced the skylight.

We called Ron at Small Job Specialist and asked him to come out and give us an estimate for replacing our bathroom skylight. He scheduled a time to give us an estimate later that week. Ron arrived right on time and did a very thorough job of determining what would be needed to replace our skylight. He checked and took measurements both on the roof and inside the bathroom. Unlike when you install a completely new skylight, he needed to determine that he could fit the replacement skylight in the existing hole. I was also concerned because we have ceramic tile totally surrounding our tub including the ceiling and the skylight shaft. I wanted to make sure that the old skylight could be removed and a new one installed without disturbing the tile. Ron assured me that he would be able to work around the tile without disturbing it. He showed me his measurements and then showed me the skylight he would be ordering from the Velux catalog. He wanted to make sure that I was comfortable by knowing that the new skylight would be a good fit in the existing hole. He said that the skylight would be in within 10 days and that he would call me at that time to set up installation. He called a week and a half later as promised and we set a time two days later to do the install. I was extremely happy with the job that was done, both the quality of the skylight used and Ron's workmanship on the install were excellent. Ron is personable and easy to deal with. He knows his business and does it well. He also did a thorough cleanup after the install.

It went very well. Ron explained where it would be possible to install skylights as well as what they would look like. He did a great job of communicating to ensure I knew what I was getting and that it was what I wanted. He was very professional and tried to keep the mess as minimal as possible. Best of all, he did a great job installing the skylights; they look very nice. I also really like that he is a Velux certified solutions installer. I received 3 other estimates but felt that others didn't have Ron's level of experience or skylight knowledge. For example, I asked other contractors where I could put skylights; some told me wherever I wanted, others looked at my roof and told me of specific places but Ron was the only one who actually went into the attic to assess the situation and tell me exactly where it would be possible to add skylights in my existing home. I also like that Ron did the job from start to finish so I didn't need to hire a separate carpenter to do the finish wor

Ron came out, said he would check on material prices and call me back. He didn't call, so I called him and asked him what was up. He said he had "been up north" and would get back to me. I never did hear from him.

It was a great experience. Ron put in a nice skylight with a screen and blinds.
