Ron was very quick in responding to our calls and emails, even when he was out of state. We had a few extra concerns because our skylight replacement required some custom fitting since the previous size was no longer available. He was very patient in answering our questions in detail. Our town home was being roofed and we wanted to have this done as soon as we could after the roofing was finished. He was very flexible in working his schedule to fit with ours so we would could line up the two as close together as possible. His price is not the lowest but he does excellent work and knows his products. He was a pleasure to work with and we have been pleased with the end result. No leaks and a great view of the sky!

We got bids from three places, including Northern Skylights. Not only was Ron's bid the lowest by far, he was also the most prompt in responding to our request, and the most thorough in explaining what he would do. He installed the two skylights by himself in one day, and left things spotless when he was done. His service was, simply put, amazing.

It went well. Ron was professional and did the entire job by himself. At first estimate, I was taken aback by the price, since the materials themselves only added up to about $1200 max. Yes, he charges about $225 an hour in labor...he was at our house for about 7.5 hours. That originally put me off from sealing the deal, but then I thought about the job and how important it was to have an expert - this is, after all, holes in our brand new roof. I know that if I ever called Velux about skylights, they would send me to Ron anyway, so he was the person we picked. He comes at 6 am, but he insisted we didn't have to be up at that time, and started with the kitchen light rather than the bedroom so we could sleep. He asked me to help by standing under the skylights and letting him know (while he was up there) if they were square and level in the hole. I was a little nervous about that, but it was easy to see when they were in right. To repair the roof around the opening, Ron brought shingles to match the house, but they weren't the right 'dimensional' style, so he used the shingles we had from our new roof job and knocked $25 off the price. I thought that was nice. I would definitely hire him again. You are paying for his experience, and you don't want some cheap contractor messing with your skylights! He also stands behind his install, however we have had no problems through many hard rains for the last two months.

Had an entire evening set aside for this gentleman to visit our home and discuss project. He never showed. Never called about the appointment. Several days later, we received a brief voicemail that didn't explain the missed appointment....he just asked if we were around that day. Of course, mistakes happen. But, there didn't seem to be any professionalism or respect for our time. We don't do business that way.

He did a great job. Finally we have skylights that do not leak. He was friendly, knew what he was doing and got the job done on time

It is a solo guy, he did the job, and got it done, almost no fuss. We have had no issues with the skylights. They are perfect.

We closed on the purchased of a home in Minnetonka and the next week both skylights leaked during the rain storms. Ron came out and provided a quote for the replacement and put clear plastic over both skylights to keep the water out. That night the rains were even worse and the clear plastic wasn't enough to stop the water pouring in. Ron came back out that morning and replaced the clear plastic with heavy blue tarps that kept our kitchen dry from that point on! With that level of service, we knew we had the right guy for the job. He got us scheduled for the replacement and after 2 days of work, we had new skylights and properly installed shingles to protect them properly. There was no sign of dirt or dust in our kitchen after all of the work he performed. We can't rave enough about Ron's service and quality.

Ron is a pleasure to work with. He is very friendly and courteous, asked permission whenever he needed to come into the house, and made sure that the floors below the skylights were protected during installation. I was curious about some of the details of the installation, and where many installers would find the constant questions irritating, he was more than willing to explain why he was doing each step. Ron arrived at 5:30am as agreed and did a good job of minimizing the noise until a little later in the morning, so as not to bother the neighbors. He worked solo and almost straight through without a break until the project was done at around 4pm. All that was left for me to do was to seal the skylights in the interior and do some touch-up painting. Normally when I arrange for a project of this size, I'd get a few different quotes, but after only meeting Ron and discussing the project with him I went with him. I get the sense I could have paid less from another installer, but Ron's experience and candor and obvious level of knowledge made it an easy decision.

It went pretty smoothly. Ron came out, inspected the leaky skylight, fit us into his busy schedule (we were on a tight timeline) and put in a new skylight. He was friendly, professional and honest. It looks great!

I contacted two 5 Star installers of Velux skylights to replace one failing skylight and another one that might be failing. One company couldn't get me a quote until I called them back and was VERY expensive. Ron returned my call immediately and was out that day to evaluate my skylight situation and give me a quote. He explained to me what was happening with my skylights, especially the one in the kitchen that failed this winter. He told me about the installation and what he would do, how he would do it and why he would do things the way he was going to. I am so happy that I had Ron do the job. Ron is the Velux technical representative for this area. When someone has a problem with their skylight Velux sends out Ron to evaluate the issues. I doubt that you can find anyone who knows more about Velux skylights than Ron. Ron replaced two skylights in one day. He showed me how the roofers had incorrectly installed the skylights when the house was roofed. He was very neat and clean and the install went exactly as planned. I highly recommend Ron, he is a straight shooter, a good guy and the Velux expert in the area. I got the best installation possible and for far cheaper than others quoted me. Note that no matter what anyone tells you make sure that you always use Velux flashing and wrap the frames with ice/water when you put on a new roof. The Velux flashing is designed to work specifically with the skylights and proper installation of the ice/water is integral to a successful installation. Also, don't reuse the flashing. If anyone tells you different they don't know what they are talking about and you should talk to Ron.

The overall experience exceeded our expectation. Ron was the only contractor (of three we called) that went up on the roof to look at the sky light. He indentified installation problems and took pictures for us. Ron provided a quote to us before he left. The day before the work was to be done he called to confirm and the day of the work was on time. He cleaned up all of his construction debris and hauled off the old window. I would recommend Northern Lights Skylights to anyone that asks.

Northern Lights - Ron Jovin - is a model of excellence in performance. He knows his business backwards and forwards. He can identify installed skylights at a glance. While he has a catalog of different installations there is NO PRESSURE to buy the most expensive. Ron has a two stage method. First, he installs roof jacks (with screws). After the working area is cleaned and ready he does an outstanding installation job. When he removes his jacks he leaves, and seals the screw holes. His work is simply OUTSTANDING. This review was deliberately delayed because I wanted to see the skylight performance through the melt. Absolutely NO PROBLEMS. I would recommend Ron Jovin to anyone at any time.

I seriously can not say enough about how wonderful my experience was with this contractor. Ron is a great guy - he was prompt, courteous & professional. He kept in touch throughout the job to ensure I was always aware of the schedule & next steps. The customer service he provided was beyond any I have experienced on any other home projects (of which there have been many). The quality of his work was excellent and the price was reasonable. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this company and Ron's services.

In my opinion, Ron was very professional in my initial phone contact to schedule him to come look at the skylight I wanted replaced and made it over same day to view and quote. In quoting out the job, he viewed the skylight from inside the house, took a measurement, and got up on the roof to inspect the area around the sky light. He spoke briefly about limited options of the skylight I could replace it with, if he ran into any rot that it would be extra, and he would try to match the shingle color as best he could since I didn't have any spare shingles. He was able to schedule the work to start within a weeks time and it would only take a half day. Ron gave a 30 minute window of when he would arrive to begin the work and arrived in that window. He asked a couple of good questions before he started like, is anybody going to be in the bathroom where the skylight was being replaced and where he should park his van in the driveway as to not to block in anybody who would be leaving for he day. Oddly, he handed me a sheet of plastic and requested me to go upstairs and lay it down on the floor under the skylight to catch his debris. I complied. Soon after starting the job, he informed me that he didn't realize there was two layers of shingles and if he ran into complications that there might be an extra fee. No roof repairs were necessary. While completing the work, he requested my help in centering the skylight over the opening by having me stand in the room and direct him how far to move the skylight right/left so he could screw the skylight into place. He said that minor dry walling repair would be needed to repair the drywall around his replacement light and caulking would need to be my responsibility since there was added work in taking the second layer of shingles off and that he couldn't calk the sky light now because that would mess up the dry walling repair. The whole job was about 4 hours. He briefly explained the warranty info on the install and sky light itself. On his way out he requested that I fetch the plastic I laid down with the debris on it so he could dispose of it. Overall, although he was professional in his interactions with me, I felt he was somewhat rushed to get the work done and move on. His rates are above the norm, and if I did it over, I would go with a reputable roofer company who has experience in skylight replacement at a better price point. Based on the other reviews on this site, I was expecting a higher level of customer service and attention to detail and leaving me to do do the drywall repair, caulking, laying down the plastic and picking up the plastic wasn't the customer friendly service I was expecting. Although his quoted price equaled what I payed, I over relied on the reviews of Angie's List and should have done more due diligence before going with this bid. I'm not sure what his costs are for the skylight, trim kit, ice/water shield, and shingles are but using estimated retail costs of the big box stores and factoring in his time on site, he'd be over 200/hr for labor.

Ron was out of town when we called, but made arrangements to appear within 2 days. The first day he was to come, there was frost on the shingles so he needed to reschedule. He arrived the next day and made his inspection and recommendation.

Ron is amazing. I could not be happier with the quality and cleanliness of the work he did replacing two old skylights. One of the hardest and smartest professionals I have had the pleasure of meeting. Perfect experience.

What a great guy! We had a lot of trouble scheduling quotes with other providers, but Ron even answered his phone while he was on vacation! He is extremely professional and very good at what he does. As soon as we decided to go with him, he scheduled our skylight replacement within the week. He arrived early, was efficient and professional, and clearly knows skylights. I'd recommend his services to anyone.

Ron is an amazing professional. He fought two weeks of rain and watched the weather report until he found a day of being able to climb on a cedar shake roof to do the work. He called the night before to tell us that the next day was to have sunshine so he asked if he could come early to remove the shakes and do the prep work before 8AM. He arrived as promised and worked steadily until 2:15PM. He found rusted out flashings so he replaced everything and carried the new skylights on his back. He is amazing! I have two other skylights that have not yet evidenced any concern, but if they do, I will call him immediately.

Excellent. The service was prompt, efficient and and all was cleaned up. It has rained and hailed since the repair and there have been no problems.

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT. I e-mailed a request for a quote on a Sunday morning and my phone was ringing in less than 10 minutes. Ron had wanted to come out already that same Sunday afternoon but I was not available, so we set up a meeting for the next Wednesday. After a informative meet and fair estimate in the AM I called Ron back in the PM and said lets do it. He was ready with the product and supplies the next day and came out to complete the job. Never had this fast service before!! During install he noticed something not quite up to his standards with the product ( something that I never would have noticed or seen ) so he ordered new parts and was out the next week to replace. While installing he also noticed that I had 2 roof jacks that needed to be replaced ( something else I never would have noticed ) He also took on thet project for me. One of the best companys and people I have ever worked with. Thanks Ron for a great job experience.
