I have had 2 electricians to my house to fix wiring issues done by a "do it yourself" previous owner of my home. Scott communicated with me as promised the time he would arrive and was actually early for the job. He got right to work and within 20 minutes determined what the issue was of the problem and made the repairs. Would not be afraid to use him again for any other electrical projects in the future.
Description of Work: Loss of power in most of the outlets in a basement that has been serviced by two other electricians prior to Signature Electric.

I added an additional bedroom and bath to our home. I felt it that I needed to upgrade the electrical service and received estimates up to $2400 from other companies. After an Angie's List search, I called Scott at Signature and got an estimate of $1800. I was ready to sign an agreement to do the work, but Scott asked me a few questions about our electrical use and the type of appliances. He then told me that we did not need new service, we just needed to add a sub-panel. The revised estimate was $500. (I was ready to hand over $1800, but Scott told me all I needed to spend was $500) We agreed on a date and time, to do the work. He arrived about a minute early, went to work and completed the job in exactly two hours. I asked him to connect four circuits to the new box (which was not part of the deal) and he did so for no additional cost. The work was neat and he cleaned up after he was finished. I am extremely pleased with the work, and I will hire him again.
Description of Work: Installed a new sub-panel to my electrical service and transferred some circuits to the new box.

I've needed an electrician three times in the past six months and have turned to Scott each time and will again when I need to down the road. He is as nice, friendly, and polite as can be. He had to deal with my cat and kids wanting to watch him work, our tiny attic crawl space, and still came out smiling. He got to work right away and figured out each task with expertise.

A representative came out to bid the job. The biggest chore, of course, was to find a route to the various rooms where connections were desired. After about 30 minutes or so, he had enough information to be able to bid the job....had the quote the same afternoon. At first, I thought the quote was a bit high - that is until I got other bids. I then realized that Signature's quote was more than fair (saved me about $600!). We immediately scheduled the work - about a week out. Signature showed up early and began the work, which included, obviously, getting into the attic - good day for it for sure! First things first, they laid down protective cloths to catch any dirt from installing new fans, gaining acceess to attic (through our bedroom closet), and cutting new outlets. From start to finish, I was impressed with the quality and finish. We actually brainstormed a better way to run the cables - which saved a few bucks too! Honesty comes out at this point as they could've easily charged me the amount of original bid, but didn't, and actually discounted based on our modified strategy. After it was all said and done, they did a great job concealing wiring or placing it in inconspicuous areas (e.g., coat closet corner). All connections worked the first time, and he even chased down a telephone wiring issue at no additional charge. Fans are amazing and outlets look like they've always been there. Great job overall! Glad I found an excellent and honest electrical company that I can call on when I upgrade my garage....next year.!
Description of Work: Replace 2 bathroom fans with 'real' ones (Panasonic) Run 1 phone line and 2 CAT5 Ethernet lines (plus a coax that we ran but ended up not using) All in a finished, 2-story house. (runs had to go from basement to 2nd story).

Scott was so easy to work with! He came out to do an estimate promptly, completed the work on-time, and very professionally. Everything looks gorgeous, and exactly as I planned. The first phase of work (electrical rough in) happened during the MN State government shut down, and Scott took care of trying to get the inspection completed to keep the work moving -- which I really appreciated. He was always right on time (if not early) and did everything just as we talked about. He's even been very responsive to a few follow-up questions after the job was done.

We are renovating an old home. We get that it has extra challenges for tradesmen. The work that Signature performed was just fine and passed inspection, but their professionalism was severely lacking. They left a box full of extra romex, electrical outlet packaging and other odds and ends that they brought with them into out home. Removing trash wasn't the only problem. They left plaster dust as well. Thirdly, we were very clear during the quoting process that we were fine with using wire mold conduit on the surface if it meant less cutting into our walls. The workers communicated to us about cutting holes in one wall, but went ahead on another without consulting us, putting us in a situation where we have to reconfigure our kitchen cabinetry to cover up the hole. It could have all been done with conduit with much cleaner results. Lastly, the workers gouged a huge hole in the plaster wall on the other side from where they were working. Instead of alerting us to the mistake, they attempted to cover it up with spackle. Anyone with common sense will tell you that a half inch deep hole can't be filled with spackle. Even worse, they didn't tell us about it. When the owner of the company came by to look at the issues, he seemed apologetic but really wasn't offering to make things right other than having someone come by to patch the gouged wall. Considering that we'll have to paint an entire stairwell due to their mistake, I expected more. If you are comfortable hiring a contractor that has the motto "accidents happen," hire Signature Electric. I won't be using their services again.

Response from Signature Electric & Signature Landscape Lighting
We were contacted by the member to provide an estimate. Scott from Signature Electric went out and walked through job with the member. Scott indicated that there may need to be holes made to get wires from point A to point B due to the house having finished walls and ceilings throughout. Signature Electric provided a written estimate, which also states that holes may need to be made in order to complete the wiring. The member contacted Signature Electric to approve the estimate and schedule the work for June 16th. Scott contacted the member the day before the start date to reconfirm appointment and to let her know that the electricians on site would be Tim & Jon. Tim walked through job with the member, confirming locations. Tim explained that he could cut small holes in the wall behind a small section of cabinets and the fridge, which would then conceal the holes that had to be made, in order to get wires to 3 receptacles that had no access from below and had stone under the framing making it very difficult to get the wires installed. He felt this was a better option than installing conduit on the surface of their kitchen walls. The member agreed to the method and Tim proceeded. During that time Derek Taylor arrived home around the noon hour. He saw the progress of work and the holes that had to be made. He made no indication of concern or dissaproval of the work being done. Scott stopped out to bring out material at one point and spoke with the member. At no time did she voice any concern of the work being done. Tim and Jon completed the job. Tim invoiced the member and she provided him with a check. She did not voice any concern with the work that had been done at that time either. That evening Scott received an email from the member where she informed him that a box of garbage had been left and that there was some plaster dust not clean up. Scott immediately emailed her back responding that he could come by the next day and remove any garbage left behind and vacuum any remaining plaster dust that was left behind after the guys had swept up. She said that was not necessary. The next Day the member called informing Scott that they guys had made a hole in a wall and then patched it with spackle and that she was suprised by the hole. Scott said he would stop out within the hour and take a look. Scott went to the house, removed a small shoe box size cardboard box that had some wire scrap, plaster pieces, and misc wirings pieces that was left behind. Again Scott offered to vacuum up any plaster dust that was missed. Again the member declined. The member showed Scott a spot in the wall not much larger than a quarter where the plaster had come detached from the wood lathe behind it. Scott noticed that a new box had been installed on the other side of the wall. When installing the box or drilling the hole for the wire feeding the box, the lathe was disturbed causing a small piece of plaster to fall off. Scott explained this to the member. Tim took it upon himself to take out the spackle we always carry for such instances and spackle the spot. The small, tiny spot is in the back stairway leading down to the basement. Scott offered to have a contactor come in and patch that small hole if it made her happy. Again she declined. In our written bid we state that holes may need to be made to get wires from point A to point B. Tim and Jon took extra time to figure out how to get wires from the basement to the 2nd floor attic in a finished house without having to cut any holes on the 1st or 2nd floor walls, which Scott anticipated may need to be done. Tim and Jon also took additional time in the basement to get wires to the kitchen with as minimal removal of basement ceiling as possible. The option to cut holes behind the cabinet instead of installing surface mount conduit was presented because Tim felt it would give the customer the best end result. It was not a faster or cheaper method. The holes will be covered by the appliance and the cabinet. Signature Electric responded to every issue the customer presented and tried to resolve them quickly. Scott Hunter, president

I called the week before to schedule wiring for/installation of a new ceiling fan in my master bedroom. Scott gave me a quote of $300.00. On the day of the appointment, Tim was running a bit late, but called to let me know which I appreciated. He showed up with an apprentice and they got right to work - had it installed and the area cleaned up within probably 1 1/2 - 2 hours. I had another problem which I asked him about, an outdoor light that wouldn't go on, so he took a look at that as well and got it up and running. Ultimately charged me $350 to include the extra work. Overall I am very satisfied and will definitely be calling them again!!

Tim and John came out after the retaining wall was already in place, so they had to do some detective work to find the wire that was covered by earth and to see whether it could still carry a current. Ultimately they found the wire and determined it was unsalvageable. But since that original line that ran to the house was also covered by a fairly new concrete step, they had to determine what was the best way to run a line without digging up too much of our garden. They determined the best path and considered alternatives to lessen the affect on the garden from trenches that had to be dug. This was not the first time I’ve used Signature Electric. I’ve used them maybe four times over the last three years. In fact, I now hire them anytime I have an electrical problem. I use them because they are problem-solvers.
Description of Work: I contracted with Signature Electric to restore electricity to my detached garage after a worker replacing a retaining wall for me accidentally tore out the wiring between the house and garage with a bobcat.

Not sure why we received such a poor grade. Customer called, we got out that day and resolved the electrical issue quickly. Sometimes it is easy sometimes it is not. So I would think it would be fair to have received an A in everything but the price category if that was the only complaint? I noticed that they had a "handyman" doing additional wiring at the house while I was there. I guess when you compare the rates of a licensed electrician to a non licensed, unqualified person, the rate may seem high.

Signature did an excellent job; the solutions they came up with were the least obtrusive and ended up blending in well with the house. They were punctual and professional. The work looks good. We would use them again for other electrical projects.
Description of Work: Signature installed three outside lights on our house in locations that previously had not lighting. Adequate electric source was not available at the points of installation, so Signature had to figure out where to tap into other sources located nearby. This was unanticipated and billed on a time/materials basis, although they stuck with the original quote for the portion of the installation that was not impacted by the need to run new lines. They also worked with us in obtaining a grant from a neighborhood organization to fund part of the project.

I unfortunately don't remember speaking with this member. On jobs that are "small" we can't always go out and do an estimate, it's not cost effective to spend an hour of time to quote a job that may only take an hour or two to complete. We can typically give a ball park price over the phone for jobs under $500. We do a majority of our smaller jobs at our hourly rate plus any material we use. I'm sorry that we were unable to give this customer the service that we have to many Angie's List members.

We have a double-switch plate in the bathroom, one switch for the light, another for the exhaust fan. When we installed a new bathroom light fixture, the wiring/box had to be moved from the ceiling to the wall. My husband, who is very handy except at wiring, attempted to wire the light, and it ended up on the same switch as the fan. We were worried it would overload the circuit. So, based on Angie's list reviews, I called Signature Electric. I called on a Friday during the week between xmas and New Year's, and they dispatched someone quickly -- for first thing Monday morning Jan 3. The office guy said to expect anywhere up to $300 depending on what the issue was. The electrician was right on time. The repair took about 5 minutes, and the final bill was $144 (this included a GFI, which we didn't have before, and the electrician offered to add). This sounds consistent with others' experiences, where the company estimated higher and came in lower...always a customer pleaser : ) We were VERY happy to have this resolved quickly and not too expensively, since we'd been going without a real light in there for a long time. We'd definitely use this company again. They were prompt and professional and got the job done quickly for what seems a reasonable amount.

Scott and his crew came over to move an electrical box. Signature was the only electrical contractor that was able to figure out how to move the box. The other two vendors did not know how to move it without having to re-locate the outside main power line, which would have been quite a bit more expensive. He was very responsive to our initial request for a quote and then setting up the appointment. The work only took a day. It passed inspection. All in all, we were very happy with Signature's service, pricing, competence, speed and efficiency.

Anytime I have electrical work, I won?t let anyone other then Troy handles it. Troy is absolutely excellent with what he does. When we had our inspection, the inspector commented on how Troy always does the work the way it should be done. His pricing is very fair. Scott (scheduling) was very responsive with answering my query and quoted a price that was correct as far as the work they did. They had to pull a permit from the city and I was surprised at the cost of the permit, but this was not Signature's fault or issue. Tim arrived right on time and went right to work. He was quiet and very professional. It was obvious he was skilled and knowledgeable. He finished exactly at the expected time, provided me with information and asked if I had questions. Since then, the city inspector and the fireplace installers have both approved of Tim's work. I would not hesitate to work with this firm and with Tim again. Highly recommend!

The process went very smooth, from my call, thru Scott?s estimate discussion (he had some good ideas), to the work day when Scott brought Chris and Ryan over to do the work. We walked thru the planned work one more time and the guys got started. Chris was the master, but worked very well with Ryan who had some terrific ideas for some of the problems. I liked the clear explanation of all of the costs on Scott?s estimate and the manor that Chris and Ryan went about their work with little disruption. Thanks guys!
