They are wonderful, they did a full house remodeling 3 years ago and they were on time, on budget, nothing was hidden, no surprise cost and they just did an excellent job.

The job exceeded our expectations. It was worth our dollar to hire Ron and his crew for their design eye and construction expertise. We could have found a cheaper contractor, but I'm not sure we could have found one to make our project look nicer.

Sicora was great to work with for our kitchen remodel! When we first met with them, they explained how the process would go without a pushy sales pitch. We really liked everything being done in house and no surprise costs to the project. Once we signed on, Sicora sent out their designer to meet with us and to get a sense of our style and desires for the project. She then came up with three designs that we were able to pick from. Once the design was set, we met the project manager who was in charge of the process moving forward. The project manager did a great job of staying on track and kept us informed of any changes in the schedule ahead of time- we never came home surprised that nothing happened. The project was done on time and high quality. Would use them again!

Amazing! We would highly recommend Sicora for any home remodel project - large or small! We added a second level to our home and completely gutted the first level. Ron and his team made the entire process enjoyable and stress free. We cannot thank the team enough for bringing our home's vision to life. Our expectations were consistently exceeded through the entire project - through high level exterior designs to the meticulous, high quality interior finishes. Sicora has strong, established connections with all of the necessary city planners, Xcel energy, etc which made each project milestone feel like a breeze. We couldn't imagine a better crew to partner with on such an important life milestone. Our fond memories of planning our future home with the Sicora team will last forever!

Very poor! Sicora sold us on their professional staff of designers and project management ability. Not so much we found out. The design staff was incompetent and kept trying to sell us a style that didn't fit the home. Then they charged us for the designers time as they repeatedly couldn't get it right. We'd request a certain style and they'd come back with something different every time. They kept wanting to meet us vs. email the detail and that took way too much time. The project manager was not onsite much and didn't inspect the work (roofing) even when he was onsite. They sold us on their experienced professional subs... The roofers did a terrible job and came back many times to fix and patch. They delivered a stainless sink by accident then charged us to return it. They were driving the costs so high that I needed to check their prices and ended up saving over $7000 on the drywall by contracting it ourselves. The cost plus agreement ended up being retail plus for the plumbing and lighting fixtures. Not per the cost plus contract. They couldn't get the entry door the correct size and they had to re-order it two times. The garage doors arrived and there was no bucking on the walls. They tried to charge for the extra trip. We lost 6 weeks due their lack of planning to convert the electricity. The siding is a disaster and not what we ordered. It is bowed and does not conform to the house. The laundry room cabinet cost was extremely over priced. The owner Ron Sonnek is also the owner of the cabinet shop. Looks like a conflict of interest to me. We ended up purchasing finished cabinets elsewhere and saved over $10,000. Sicora quit and pulled off the project prior to completion and forced us to hire another plumber to complete the job and another boiler company to provide and install the boiler. Every bank draw request was incorrect as they were over charging and each draw took many revisions prior to funding. There were so many mistakes and corrections that I ended up paying for that sink I didn't order, etc.. I'd never use them again and would avoid them at all costs.

Response from Sicora Inc
Hi [Member Name Removed]. Thank you for your posting. This happens to be a case of a project that the client started himself, then quickly realized that it was too intense and difficult to general contract himself. Sicora came in, produced the work that was under contract, did a great job with the project and still had a dissatisfied client in the end. Client was not excited to hire us from the start. Oh, plus we had to take him to court to secure final payment from him after the project was completed. He lost his case and we were made whole. I stand behind the work and am happy to provide a full warranty for it.

We had the opportunity to pick between 2 homes to renovate and consulted with Ron about what we wanted and he helped us decide to remodel a rambler as it would be much easier to fit in what we wanted as "ramblers were easier to work with vs a 1 1/2 story". Our desire was to have our own master with bath and walk in closet, main floor laundry/mudroom, larger kitchen, and adding an additional garage stall. Ron knew our budget and made suggestions of things we could do and drew up plans. We had a budget of 200-225,000 which never seemed to be an issue, up until the bids came in. In fact, he seemed like that would be more than enough. Our original bid came in a little over 350,000. We had worked about 6 weeks on plans, choosing appliances, picking out hardware etc, We had even asked several times if our project was seeming to be going over budget, but that question was ignored. We were so confident everything was on track that we leased an apt for the renovation and put a considerable amount of money down on it in addition to the money that was paid to Sicora to draw up the plans. Had we been told that our renovation was not going to fall within our budget we would have never pursued the project or wasted our, or the designers time. I felt the whole process was very deceitful and that our project became too small for them to profit on or something. We did continue to meet with them to try to scale down the project and come up with something that was going to satisfy our needs, and make sense financially for a remodel. This is were things fell apart. Ron asked if we would still be willing to consider the project if they could come up with plans for 260, using the same finishes. We agreed to give it a shot. The next bid came in at 270, but when bids were looked at item by item, cheaper materials were substituted and our appliance budget that was originally $9,000, went to 6,000, the fully enclosed concrete crawlspace (which was never going to be an option and that was communicated from day 1) went to a crawlspace that was a base of plastic and gravel. Instead of tile for the mudroom, vinyl was substituted. I feel like communication was very poor, it often felt as if there were just too many projects that they had going on. Phone calls and emails would take days to answer or needed to be followed up on to get a response, serious questions like budget being ignored. I would expect a remodeling company to have at least some idea of costs of project. we just kept being told it would be between 10-15% within budget. This was not true. Once it seemed like the project was not going to work Ron seemed frustrated and stopped working with us, quit calling and obviously moved on without professionally dealing with situation or trying to patch what he messed up. It was really disapointing to put so much time into a project and have such high hopes and assurance that the project was going to turn out great, and then have it completely fall apart. We were told that the way our process went was not typical, but when questioned about how things should have gone I got no response. Don't get me wrong, Sicora does some beautiful work and that is why we were willing to stick with the process a little longer than we should have.

Response from Sicora Inc
A design/build process is a difficult one to maneuver at times. Certainty and confidence in pricing and scope is something that clients expect from Sicora and in 99% of our projects, we deliver. In this case, however, the client's expectations and desires were not able to be met with the budget that was developed. Sicora spent numerous hours in redesign in order to "value engineer" the project to an acceptable price point, but when the clients viewed the plans that they would build to, they decided that it was not the house that they wanted. Sicora still stands behind the fact that the rambler home style was the home to purchase (in Edina, in a desired neighborhood) versus a 1 1/2 story home (in a nice St Louis Park nbhd). A grander main level floor plan, versus, having to maneuver 3 different floors in a story and a 1/2. While this situation was complicated, by fault of both parties, Sicora apologizes for what the client experienced during this process, and wish them well in the different home that they purchased.

We met with Ron and Tom (who has since passed away) to discuss plans for our home remodel. They were able to not only look at the plans we had been working on, but also improve upon them. They came in $20,000 less than their main competitor, but more than other contractors whose quality was not up to our standards. We began working in May and the project was completed in September. They were easy to work with and everything was completed on time, and many things were completed early. The workers were respectful to our neighbors (we had to move out during the remodel); the painters they used even helped out a neighbor while he was mowing the lawn (apparently he was not well).

He didn?t listen very well. So, his bid was double what everybody else quoted. I think that he didn?t really ask a lot of questions. He just assumed that we would want everything top of the line. I felt like I communicated that we were working on a budget and it didn?t come back that way.
