Steve came to our home to look at the work and gave a verbal quote onsite. I was really pleased with our initial interaction. However, after our first meeting he became very hard to get a hold of and did not communicate well with us on final price, schedule, or any logistics necessary to do the work. I had to call him many times to try and understand next steps and coordinate for him to start. He ignored our contact, and did not follow up unprompted. After he missed our start date, that we set over a month before, we had a phone call to attempt to reschedule (weather dependent) and he could not commit to the work or tell me why he could or could not perform it. He then yelled at me and hung up the phone. I am appalled by his lack of communication, professionalism and patience. Now we have all of our doors and hardware in our garage, and we are left to find another contractor last minute, in November. I do not recommend working with Steve if you are looking for good service from start to finish.

This contractor was surly while I interviewed him, and in the end gave a grossly inflated bid for the work, really as an insult more than anything. Totally unprofessional.

I wanted a fancy railing so he had to do some fine carpentry. Work was bid, highly competent and professional - personable. Would recommend. Barbara Steinberg

I was very pleased with the responsiveness and results. Steve was the only contractor to have the courtesy to call me back for this small job (less than a day). He came up with a design for the bracket which was both functional and decorative. He was able to come on site just a few weeks after giving me the estimate.

Good job doing the drywall, had to come out again and send a different person as screws popped and didn't mud and smooth terribly well.

I called Angies List and they said I would have a 149.00 credit to my account to be used on something else. I am currently trying to apply that amount to some plumbing work. I would never recommend this guy. He has a serious problem - may do very good work when he's straight. But twice he was not sober for me.

Everything went fine from my end - I don't know about the carpenter. Actually I did ask Steve to send his guy back out to replace 1 more piece of wood I thought was a little mushy. He came out and replaced the board I sent a check. I have used Steve Scheftel 2 other times. this was the only time I asked him to come back and redo something. He did it no questions asked - no additional billing. I believe the mark of a good company is how they handle a customer complaint. I will call Steve again - with reservation.

It went well. They came out right away for the bid. It was for a new fence. They were prompt. I have not yet got any other bids so I do not know how it compares yet. The bid sounds reasonable. They will have to do the whole fence because the posts are rotted.

I have an older home and the front porch was sinking since it was just sitting on bricks. The company installed timber supports sunk to the correct depth reinforced the frame and redid the floor joists. Excellent work, very professional and most importantly they new what they were doing.

The first time we hired Scheftel, the owner came himself and re-plastered two spots on ceilings with water damage. He responded quickly and did a nice job, so we hired Scheftel again to do a few things in our kitchen. This time an employee came and told us he couldn't do what we wanted (remove some chair rails and a section of baseboard that had been painted) because he could never match the wood. (Actually, available at Menard's.) Guess it was just too small a job. He did a couple other small things and left two unsatisfied customers.

It looked very good at first, but when it was time to paint I noticed that areas were uneven and sanding was incomplete.

I wasn't contacted for three weeks after paying for the offer, so I called to follow-up. Calls were returned promptly and we scheduled within a week of contact. Work completed uninterrupted and mostly as expected. Sanding could not be fully completed as material was not completely dry.

Talked to Steve Scheftel and had the work scheduled within 1 week of signing up for it. Steve had Jane come out to do the work. She was friendly, professional, fast working, and knew what she was doing. She also offered several tips about finishing the project to save a little money. The project was done within the two hours, no additional charge. Would definitely request her, and/or call Scheftel again.

It went very well. They covered up the TV with a plastic sheet and went to work applying the numerous plaster/drywall coats over the patch, flattening the final layer again and again to get it just right when an imperfection arose from materials. Very well done.

Great! Fast and clean an the patch looks good, Steve even threw in a couple of extra patches on old wall cracks. I will use him again.

I was very pleased with the work and will hire them again

They were excellent. They were a crackerjack team. They came in and took care of it for us. I'd go A down the line. They were very pleasant but they took care of the house. They were careful with things and they cleaned up so well after themselves. Drywall and skimming the walls is really a messy job. There is kind of sand all over the place. It's part of the job but they really did a nice job. They were quick and made sure that we were pleased before they left. That's another company we'd have back if we needed them. They were pretty efficient.

They didn't charge any more than the big deal cost.
