It took 5 hours which seemed to be bit long. When we had issues with other work Mike Salvatore did on our home, found out he had big legal problems in his home state of Florida and here in Minnesota, we became concerned and pulled a permit so we could have the work inspected. The work failed and we had to mess around fixing his errors. Lucky for us we were able to do the work ourselves to get a pass, but what a pain and it was a safety issue. According to Mike, he was an employee of ours following our directions but in the next sentence he states he did not work for "these people". Which is it? Just an example of his dishonesty. Check him out, he has been convicted of crimes around his time as a contractor in Minnesota and Florida.
Description of Work: Replaced a water heater.

Response from Salvatore Interiors
They were once again misinformed about the safety glass. The code says greater than 9 square feet and there windows were 9 square feet. They were misinformed by and incompetent inspector. I helped the homeowner install a water heater, I was following the directions of the Owner working as an employee. Salvatore Interiors has never had a contract with this member and has never performed any work for these people. Please do not put these posts on the website

We fired him even after he offered to work for free. We started doing some research because his "stories" did not add up and we caught him in several lies. We went to the Florida Department of Professional Licenses at www.myfloridalicense.com and we found disciplinary action was taken against him. We were able to confirm this was the same man with the the state. Restitution and penalties were assessed and the homeowner had to collect from the recovery fund. We were told typically this means a contractor took funds and did not do the work. Look him up yourself (Michael J. Salvatore) and you will find the same information we did. He moved to Minnesota shortly after this action was taken by the State of Florida. Also the State of Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry issued a Cease and Desist order against him in the Spring of 2007 for unlicensed activity and again in early 2010. We were told he was not eligible to get a license in Minnesota because he could not pass a background check... Go to their web site and check it out or give them a call. We had to spend almost $10,000 fixing his errors, poor workmanship and lack of knowledge around construction methods and the building codes. The professionals we brought in to fix his work could not believe how poorly everything was done. The cabinet drawers started falling apart a month after he installed them and we found out the windows that were such a "good deal" had to be safety glass so they ended up costing more than if we had just gone to a home improvement store and bought new ones. He got mad when we refused to pay for his mistakes which included pantry doors he built but failed to measure so they did not fit. Had I known about all his legal troubles both in Minnesota and Florida I would have never let him in our home. The final straw was when the State of Minnesota asked us to testify against him because he was collecting unemployment illegally. What a nightmare. After a year, everything he did is falling apart. He states he never worked for us, but I have the "invoices" to prove it. Also, how would he know about the specifics of the safety glass? Again, what a nightmare.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen remodel. His labor was $12,000 but the project came in 60% over budget at $45,000 and it cost us another 10,000 to fix all his mistakes. A year later we are still replacing his shoddy workmanship. He lied about work in progress and we found out he had a criminal record.

Horrible - If you run into Mike run, don't walk as fast as you can the other direction. He state he "wrote the contractor's test" but can't install a door correctly. From top to bottom, we were not happy with a single thing AND it cost us thousands to fix his many mistakes. He is rude and will bleed you for everything you got. We ended up 60% over budget, he lied about work in progress and we ended up firing him. The worst part, his criminal record in Florida and Minnesota related to construction. He can't seem to follow the rules. We were also asked to cooperate with an investigation with two different state agencies, one for operating without a license AFTER a cease and desist order was issued by the state AND one around unemployment fraud. What a nightmare. We wish we had never met him and we are still paying for his bad workmanship - Everything he did was just awful.
