I'm sorry we weren't able to achieve an overall A rating with you. It is our goal to always make sure our customers are completely satisfied. I wish that you would have given more detail in your review so that this could be a learning experience for us. I am glad to see that you felt our quality of work was worthy of an A rating. Also, the cost of this project should be $1,000 not $10,000.

Description of Work: I took advantage of the $300/day for contractor services. Mark did a great job with the projects we lined up for him. Lots of trim/wood work. The cuts were perfect and could not have asked for better work. Very respectful of our home and a true professional.

Working with Mark is always a pleasure. He provides firm price estimates, shows up when he says he is going to, and does great work. We have used Mark for several projects and wouldn't hesitate to use him again.
Description of Work: Mark painted our entire upstairs, including windows, trim, and all prep work, including repair of some loose wall board. He also painted a basement wall and installed two replacement light fixtures upstairs.

Wonderful! This is the third time we've used Mark and we've always been thrilled with his work. This time we had a short timeline (a new baby was arriving shortly!). We asked Mark to finish by a specific date that was only two weeks from our initial discussion and he did it (just in time, the baby arrived early!). Not only did Mark meet our tight deadline, he also did great work and is always pleasant to work with. I would definitely hire Mark again and recommend him to anyone.

I am a one man operation so it is difficult to always answer the phone when tools are running or my hands are full. I returned "the members" phone call on 2 different occasions. I left her the last message so when she didn't return my call I assumed she found someone else or became wary of playing phone tag. I plan on hiring some help when the economy allows to help with this issue. I apologize for the inconvenience.

His estimate was thousands less than a bid for comparable work that we received from another reputable contractor. His work was timely, professional, and exhibited an attention to detail. As always, it was a true pleasure to work with Mark, and I would not hesitate to use him (or recommend him) for future projects.
Description of Work: We have used Mark in the past for more extensive remodeling work, so we thought of him first when we had a general painting/updating project before putting our house on the market. He painted several interior rooms, including the floor of our kitchen. He also painted our garage and the exterior trim on our house. In the process, he fixed several broken window sashes, so we now have functioning windows in our breakfast nook. He also re-glazed several windows on the front of our house and re-stained our deck.

We had worked with Mark in the past and were excited to hire him again. As with previous projects, Mark was great to work with. He was always punctual, polite, and clean. He provided weekly progress updates and discussed any scheduling changes with us in advance. He finished the project when he said he would. And the project looks great. In particular, the built-in is beautiful and very functional! I absolutely recommend Mark for any type of remodeling job, and woodworking in particular.
Description of Work: Mark remodeled our basement for us, including: - Taking out a bar and building a storage closet in its place (including wire storage system) - Removing a popcorn ceiling and rewiring the light fixtures for basement-wide can lights - Building a large (and beautiful!) built-in shelf that contains our TV and entertainment center items, toy storage, and lots of books.

Mark was amazing. We had four estimates done and Mark was by far the friendliest and most reasonable. He was very reliable from start to finished. He showed up when he said he would and was able to give us an estimate very quickly. He was able to start the work soon after. We purchased all of the materials ourselves and Mark provided a very helpful list of exactly what he needed. Mark worked very quickly and we were excited to see the progress each day. The back door ended up being a much larger project that any of us anticipated. The door was plastered into place and had to be carefully removed. The walls surrounding the door had to be repaired and Mark did a wonderful job. Even the bee hive that he found above the door didn't phase him. He came back several times to reapply plaster to make sure the job was done correctly. The door took much longer than Mark had estimated so we offered to pay him more. He refused and asked that we instead rehire him on another project. Mark treated our project like one he would do in his home. We will definitely be using him again.
Description of Work: Mark did all of the finishing carpentry in our remodeled basement. He added trim and door casings as well as handrails. He also replaced our back door and repaired the wall around the door opening.

I had Mark come in to give me an estimate for a bathroom remodel in the middle of May. He barely arrived on time for our appointment. He said he'd arrive between 3-4 and he arrived at about 3:55. I was really impressed with his knowledge about my remodel He was very nice and friendly and I felt comfortable with him. He said he was going out of town for a week and that he'd get back to me the week after. It is two months later and I still haven't received an estimate.

I DID EVERYTHING I TOLD “THE MEMBER” I WOULD DO: I ARRIVED ON TIME AND I SENT HER THE ESTIMATE. UNFORTUNATELY, I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM HER SO I WAS ESPECIALLY SURPRISED TO READ THIS REPORT. IT IS DISHEARTENING TO ME THAT SOMEONE WOULD WRITE THIS TYPE OF REVIEW WITHOUT TRYING TO CONTACT ME TO SEE IF SOMETHING MAY HAVE INADVERTENTLY HAPPENED TO THE ESTIMATE I SENT. INSTEAD, “THE MEMBER” JUMPED TO AN INCORRECT CONCLUSION THAT I DID NOT FULFILL MY COMMITMENT TO HER. THIS TYPE OF REVIEW RUINS MY CHANCE OF RECEIVING A SUPER SERVICE AWARD FOR 2008, WHICH WAS A VERY IMPORTANT RECOGNITION FOR MY BUSINESS IN 2007. I TAKE PRIDE IN MY BUSINESS AND HAVE ALWAYS GONE OUT OF MY WAY TO MAKE SURE THAT MY CUSTOMERS AND POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS ARE ALWAYS PLEASED AND WELL TAKEN CARE OF.

We liked Mark from the start. His bid was the most reasonable of the ones that we received, but he also impressed us with his apparent diligence and earnestness. Mark only takes on one project at a time, which gave us some amount of comfort, as we knew we were going to be displaced from our house for the duration of the project (due to the lack of a functioning bathroom). While the project ended up taking longer than expected (due to various unforeseen issues that arose), Mark worked diligently and was excellent in keeping us updated as the project progressed. He was also very good about communicating with us regarding potential problems and working with us to craft creative solutions to them. (We also appreciated that he was good with our pets, who have a tendency to want to "help" contractors out.) Overall, the quality of Mark's work was excellent, and we couldn't be more pleased with how our bathroom turned out. We would definitely hire Mark again in the future.
Description of Work: We hired Mark to do a complete remodel on our house's only bathroom after receiving a number of different labor-only bids for the job. Mark performed all the labor, including demolition and removal of all existing fixtures; minor electrical and plumbing work; installation of new drywall, floor tile, tiled shower surround, wainscoting, bathtub, vanity, toilet, linen cabinet and painting. We supplied the materials for the project except for various sundry items that Mark provided. The final cost was slightly higher than the initial bid, but that was due to the fact that we changed our remodeling plans.

A painter was in the middle of a job for me which required a plasterer. I went to Angie's List and selected Mr. Ruffner because he lived only a mile from me. He answered on his cell and was in my area so he came right over to give me an estimate. He made it clear that he does not do plaster and lathe (neither does anyone, I think). But, he said he would see whether he could work something out. He gave me an estimate of $150. He said he could start the next day, came promptly and spent about 3 hours on the project. It was a rainy day and the mud wouldn't dry, so he came back the next day and put on some extra coats. The sheet rock he was trying to put in the laundry broke and he came back on Monday with another piece. When he came in, he said, "I was thinking about your job over the weekend and have another idea." What a great thing to hear! Someone who is interested enough in a $150 job to be thinking about it after hours. He successfully finished the project. I told him I thought the estimate was too low considering how much time he put in. e said he thought it was OK.
Description of Work: Mr. Ruffner plastered 4 large ceiling cracks in a hall way and one big hole in a laundry room ceiling. In the case of the laundry room, it was a plaster and lathe ceiling from 1935, and had several pipes running through it that he had to fit the repair around.

Mark was a pleasure to work with. He provided us with a timely estimate and was eager to perform the work. Mark showed up when he promised and followed through on all of our requests. He was open to discussing and recommending options as the project progressed. Since we decided to do our own painting, Mark agreed to come back at a later time to put the baseboard and crown molding up which I certainly appreciated.
Description of Work: Mark replaced damaged wood and installed new sheet rock (hung, taped & finished) on all of the knee walls where the wains-coating had been removed. He patched all of the holes in the ceiling and removed popcorn texture after I had installed remodel recessed lighting. All of the ceilings and walls were patched and skim-coated. New baseboard and crown molding was installed.

This is the second time we've worked with Mark. We are very happy with the work he does. He is very dependable, does quality work, and is flexible with our schedules (and very accommodating to our friendly and curious dog and cats). He did a great job picking out and installing a handrail that matched our style and took the time to consult with us on the windows that best fit our current project need and budget.

I was pleased with Mark Ruffner's work. He was very easy to work with and clearly made every effort to complete the work in a timely, skillful manner. He was open to having me supply the material separately from his bid for the labor, which seemed to work well for both of us. His price was quite fair, almost 10% less than the other competitive bid that I received. We did encounter a few problems during the project, but Mark was extremely reasonable in working out a mutually agreed upon solution. I recommend Mark to others, particularly for those seeking to control costs for smaller renovation projects but desiring a quality result.
Description of Work: Remodeled a full bath, 3/4 bath and 1/2 bath. Almost everything was replaced except the shower stall and vanity cabinet in the 3/4 bath. I selected and purchased all the major materials (tub, tile, vanity cabinets & tops, plumbing fixtures, toilets, etc.) and had them ready for installation. Mark Ruffner supplied all the labor and minor materials for $14,200.

I give Mark my highest recommendation. Once Mark started the job, he did not work on anything else until it was finished. The entire project took about 3 weeks. Mark was courteous and clean. He was happy to advise us about materials when we asked. His price was extremely fair and the quality of the work was top notch. Our bathroom is beautiful! Two months after Mark completed the project, I noticed some cracking in a small section of grout. I called Mark and he promptly came over to fix it, no questions asked and at no additional charge. We definitely plan to use Mark in other capabilities in the future.
Description of Work: Completely remodeled a full bathroom. Mark performed a full tear-out (except tub) and installed new glass-block window, bath and floor tile, sink and toilet, shower manifold assembly, and inset medicine cabinet. He also repaired our ceramic tub where it had chipped, patched the ceiling, and installed a fan.

We were happy to find Mark, who was willing to tackle a "smaller" bathroom remodel, let us do the design and provide the fixtures. Other remodelers wouldn't even come out to look at our bathroom unless our remodel budget was at least $15k. Mark provided a prompt and detailed proposal and stuck to his bid. He kept us apprised of the progress of the work, was on schedule and was more than happy to come out for any adjustments or followup that we might need (for example, the scald guard feature on the shower body needed to be adjusted). His responsiveness and professionalism was comparable to high-end remodelers that we have used for major remodeling in our house (and were very happy with). This other remodeling experience is probably the only reason we didn't give him an "A" for quality since we are super picky and notice things like small drywall imperfections, etc. that others probably wouldn't notice. We have recommended him to several friends considering bathroom remodels.
Description of Work: Original 1930s bathroom remodeled - wall tile, shower surround, a built-in vanity table, etc. were all demoed. Then all fixtures - bathtub, toilet, vanity, linen closet, exhaust fan, sconce lights, recessed medicine cabinets, faucets and shower body - were all installed and the shower surround and floor were re tiled with travertine. Casing around the door and baseboard were replaced. Uneven ceiling was skim coated. A single vanity was re plumbed for a double vanity. We purchased the fixtures and had Mark install them. Mark took care of disposal of all of the demo.

Mark returned my call immediately and was out the next day for an estimate. He returned the estimate to me in two days and we scheduled work for February. As the date drew near, he contacted me to let me know when he would be starting. Mark was punctual and commuicated the process clearly. He covered the floors to the areas he was working in and did a great job of keeping everything organized. He called me each day to let me know the progress and ask any questions before he proceeded. The job went quickly and was done very well. I am very happy about the results and have already contracted him to make me more radiator covers!
Description of Work: Mark ripped out two existing bathrooms and completely redid them from the sheetrock up. One bathroom was a full bath - he installed sheetrock, a new tub, subway tile around the tub, sink, toilet and new tile floor. The other bathroom was a half bath - installed new ceiling (curved no less), tile floor, sink and toilet. New trim was also installed in both bathrooms. He also made radiator covers for the bathroom as well as my bedroom.

Mark Ruffner and Jack Forde are a good team and complement each other's work well. They were right on their mark with regard to the timing and pricing. Even ''surprises'' were reasonable and fair. For example, they found pipe corrosion in the walls and told me right away - they fixed it promptly and for a reasonable price. The quality of work is great. There was never a question as to the quality of their work because they take a lot of pride in it. Also, they will work on every last detail to make sure their customers are happy with the final results. Finally, there was a lot of trust between us which is one of the most important factors when you have someone in your home every day. Thanks for your work!
