Their bid price was twice that from the Greene Construction for the exact same job. Did not use Heine for that reason.

The chimney was finished inside of a week, despite brutally hot weather. His crew was friendly, polite and personable. I've got young kids that insisted on getting underfoot at least once per day, and they were always careful and friendly to the kids. The actual brick work is quite good (I've had this verified by another mason), but he never did put the critter cap on. He promised to come back in a week or so and put it on for me, but I didn't see Roger again. I left several messages on his phone, but did not receive a call back. Still, I can't fault him TOO much for this, as he completed all the work on his original bid, and I felt his price was fair. He left a half-dozen carpet squares and several 5 and 10 gallon pails of cement in my garage, along with a 40-pound bag of unmixed concrete, with a promise to come back and pick them up. I've now been looking at them (and moving them around) for over a year. His youngest son also promised to come back and bid out refacing my foundation, but I have not heard from him again. I left five or six messages about this, but haven't heard back. I'd imagine they intend to pick them up Overall, B: the work he did was good. The crew was great -- unbeknownst to me, my youngest son had overheard them saying that they were going to McDonalds, and asked for a cheeseburger. Roger brought him a full happy meal, and I've never seen a kid so tickled pink. I would never have expected anyone to bring a meal for the customer's kid, and I think that was incredibly sweet of him. I'd hire Roger again for more work if I could be assured that he'd get it all done, and clean up after himself. C- for business acumen on his part. Why not grade him lower? His son left the aforementioned supplies behind, intending to use them for the foundation work I'd asked him to bid -- I really can't blame Roger for this. I do wish Roger had answered my messages and picked his stuff up, however. For that, I'll dock him. He's also called one of my neighbors every spring for the last 3 years and asked if she'd like an estimate on rebuilding the top of her chimney. Every time she has emphatically told him yes and given him her address, but has yet to see him.
Description of Work: Roger gave us a bid on rebuilding the top 12 rows of our chimney, and putting a critter cap on as well. This was a cement brick chimney, the paint on which had peeled over the years. The bid was to remove and rebuild the crumbling rows, rebuild the cap, and repaint the entire chimney. After he began the job, we requested that he also put a critter cap on the fireplace chimney to keep out errant birds.

As above.
Description of Work: Mr. Heine took several days to set up his scaffolding, then didn't return to do the job for another couple of days. What should have been a two-day job stretched out over a week. (The neighbors even commented about this.) Meantime, his scaffolding damaged our shrubbery. When he left, he acknowledged there was a board remaining on our roof, but he never returned to take it down, despite several phone calls. He assured me that his roofing friend, who was supposedly coming out to give us a bid, would take it down. The roofer never showed up, Roger never followed up, and when I followed up, he simply never showed up to remove the debris, left from his work.

Initial response was good, contractor was on time for inspection of the site and sent a detailed quote quickly, which was not low, but negotiable, and the contractor seemed to be professional and well-organized, so I did not mind a slightly higher price. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. First, realize that their crew is based out of Clearwater, which means one hour of driving time each way to the Twin Cities metro area, which leads to a lot of problems and makes this contractor a poor choice for work in the metro. First scheduled day was rainy all over the state although it did not rain in our particular part of Saint Paul all day. Despite my urging, contractor refused to send out his crew because of the risk to them of wasting driving time for no work performed. Understandable from their point, to be sure, though not really my problem or anything I should have to deal with. We rescheduled for another weekday, which meant another day on which I had to take vacation from work, which is not free for me, obviously. Crew was supposed to show up between 10 and 10:30am, but did not show until 12:30. The guy who was supposed to perform the work did not bring his saw to the job site because he "did not want to waste the gas required to haul around the saw." He was instead planning on using a drill/jackhammer combination to knock out the block. This is a cheap and low-tech way of breaking a hole into a basement wall, not what I was looking for in the first place. Mine is an old house and to make a legal egress window and fit within the well, we would need to cut through the center of a row of block. I was stunned that he would not bring the most obvious tool to do the job, and he rejected my suggestion to rent a saw from a local equipment rental place, which is nearby and would have worked perfectly. "If you think I'm going to use a dry saw you're nuts." By now it was too late for him to return to Clearwater and finish the job and his refusal to consider any alternatives did not help matters. He told me we would do it later that week after the contractor would contact me to reschedule, and then he left. I never heard back from the contractor. In summary: this contractor may do good work when it happens, I cannot report on that; I would that assume they do. But realize that if you are located outside of Clearwater you will have to bow to their whims and your concerns will come second to their convenience, to the point where the job will not get done at all and you find yourself wasting precious vacation time. The final discontinuation of communication was unprofessional and rude in the highest degree. I also never got a response to inquiries about permitting, generally the responsibility of a contractor, so I have to assume this job was going to be conducted without a permit, leaving me wondering why I would have paid a contractor's overhead at all. I cannot recommend Heine Contracting based on my experience.
Description of Work: I wanted to have an egress window that I purchased myself put into a basement wall around which I had already built a large well. Fairly straightforward job, though a couple of smaller windows exist in the basement, partially overlapping with the window that was to be set into the wall. So it would have basically been this: cut a hole for a window, fill the existing windows with block or similar to be covered with stucco later, fit the window, add trim inside and out. Simple job, but it never happened; read below for details.

The work was very good. The limestone wall was very thick and several people declined to bid. Roger's price was a little high, but he matched a lower quote I received. We haven't had any problems with the window.
Description of Work: Cut a hole through our limestone foundation and installed egress window.
