+ -1 moreThe service technician made a suggestion when I talked to him as part of the scheduling process. We followed his suggestion, and the furnace worked. He did not do any billable on-site service. I am impressed!!
Description of Work: I called for emergency furnace service. When I talked to the service technician, he suggested that the furnace's combustion air intake might be clogged by frost. We followed his suggestions, and the furnace worked after we were done. No on-site service done, and no bill to pay! I am impressed!!

+ -1 moreNo need to call anyone else in the Twin Cities. Technician was prompt, clean, and amazing. Replaced a Trane Air Cleaner that was an expensive piece of junk. And a humidifier than didn't seem to have an outside sensor. Rather than force us to wait, he waited for the delivery truck of necessary parts. These folks are the real deal and are old school when it comes to ethical, on time and technically proficient. Don't bother with any other company.
Description of Work: Replaced Trane Air Cleaner, Installed Aprilaire Humidifier.

+ -1 moreI bought a new dryer which by Minneapolis law needs to be hooked up by a professional. Of course, being a new dryer and the old old being on the fritz, I called someone(Not Ray Welter Heating and Air Conditining) who was willing to come out the same day, the person came out surveyed the situation and told me the cost would be over $440.00. I was floored!! When I had called the office to set up the visit, they told me that they could not quote me over the phone because they did not know. I accepted them coming out because my mindset was, it is a simple project, it can't cost that much! I was very much wrong, I sent them packing ( I really should write a terrible review on them). Enter Ray Welter Heating and AC, He could not come that day, but was able to get him over the next day. He brought the piping up to "code", something needed to be added that Minneapolis has passed a code on, maybe a drip vent?? Can't quite remember the name, He installed the dryer and charged a very reasonable price for the service. He was also very professional and I just felt comfortable around him. I would definately call them in the future for needs.

+ -1 moreGreat - the tech, Ralph, was very polite and friendly. He patiently answered my questions and helped me understand my options. They're a locally owned family operation and thy were able to fit me in on short notice - I had called the folks that had previously looked at the furnace, based on the stickers that were on it, and called them first - and they were scheduling a month out! Ray N Welter was able to fit me in within that week.

+ -1 moreFurnace went out in late December. Had 3 contractors come to give me a quote. Welter was not the lowest but they pointed out things that the others did not and folowed up well. Showed up on time and did the work neatly and completely for the quoted price. They had to do some custom duct work but did not charge more for that. Their installation was much more professional than when the house was originally built

Technician arrived on time and certified a wall heater and performed certification for the furnace, which was required to sell the home. Technician was thorough and showed me what he did and reconfirmed all steps required. This company has an excellent reputation and my family has used them for many years. They are well known in the area, and have an excellent reputation.

+ -1 moreThey estimated $3900 for the work. They were overly friendly but I could live with that. The problem was that I knew that they missed two things. They misdated something and missed something else. When I called them to point that out, they checked and assured me that what they said was right and that I wasn't. That was one of the reasons that their bid was lower than the others as they had missed a part of it. They also told me that I was eligible for a tax rebate. I said that I had done a lot of research on that and got to know that I would not be eligible for that. But they said that I was. I would like to say that everyone except for the one company that I hired to do the work said that I was eligible for it. The company that I hired said that they would go back and do a research on it. They came back to me with the same conclusion. However, Ray N Welter Heating and Air Conditioning completely ignored my concern in that regard. They would answer my calls quickly though. I would consider getting an estimate from them again in the future because they have done some work for me in the past and I certainly would not want one experience like this to disqualify that. They were also not rude.
Description of Work: I received an estimate from Ray N Welter Heating and Air Conditioning six weeks ago for replacement of the main furnace and install a new tunnel furnace as that side was not heating.

+ -1 moreWe ran into some problems but we are not entirely sure it was them. I like them for a number of reasons and I would probably use them again. We did have some problems with the installation and it sounded like it was a disgruntled employee. Someone had to come back the next day to fix what wasn't done correctly. I think it was probably an overworked employee that probably took a shortcut. Their price was competitive with the others that we got bids from. We would use them again.

+ -1 moreIt’s rare when you have people who come to install your system know how it works. They installed the system and they also knew how it worked. The person who came out answered all our questions seemed to explain things well. He told us that he could do things for us, but also said that we could do it ourselves. So that was helpful because he showed us some things that we could do it on our own. He did ask about one particular situation that he had described to me, but didn’t occur while he was here, so he couldn’t really respond to it or answer our question. So that was a little bit disappointing because that one unusual occurrence still remains a mystery, but otherwise he did his work well and seemed to work out. Everything worked out fine and he is good. He charged me an awful amount of money for the time that he was here. I would have him to come and check the systems twice a year. I would use his services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Ray N Welter Heating & Air Conditioning to check my heating and air conditioning system for the winter. They might have come out last in the beginning of November 2010.

+ -1 moreI hired this company several years ago when I needed to replace the furnace in a previous house, and I was so pleased with the installation, product, and the customer service that I decided to hire them again when I needed to replace the furnace in my current home. I was just as pleased with this company the second time. The product salesperson who came to my home (a Welter family member) was knowledgeable, down-to-earth, and professional. Because new furnaces vent to the outside via PVC pipe, it was necessary for Welter to drill through the exterior of my home (brick). This made me a little nervous, but I was assured it would be fine. It was. I was at work when they removed the old furnace and installed the new one, but everything appeared to go smoothly. They came when they said they would, did a reasonably good job cleaning up, and once again I'm very pleased with my new Trane furnace. When a roofing company came to my home to remove snow and ice dams, they inadvertently buried the furnace vent. I came home to discover that my furnace's automatic shut off mechanism actually works, which was reassuring.
Description of Work: They removed my old furnace and installed a new high efficiency furnace. They also removed my old style thermostat and installed a digital programmable thermostat.

+ -1 moreI was doing a head-to-toe renovation project on a home, and was about to have the sheetrock hung in the basement when I realized...WHOOPS, I forgot to put in the ductwork! Time was of the utmost importance, I had not a moment to spare. I started calling every HVAC installer I could find, and Welter came through. They came out THE NEXT DAY to install the duct work, saving me from some serious headache and delays. My only gripe was when it came time to set up the final city inspection, they sent me the inspection documents via US Mail (I live 8 blocks from their office). I could have done without that delay. However, they came through in such a pinch, offered a fair price, and did quality work, so they get my endorsement.

+ -1 moreThey were the 4th estimate, arriving early Friday afternoon to give an estimate. Original furnace had a cracked heat exchanger and was professionally turned off. I'd referred to Consumer Reports and Consumer Checkbook to find installers based on price and quality. Salesman/estimator stated they could do the install on the following Monday, but no hard sell. I called late Friday to inform them that they were my choice, and they arrived Monday at 8:30 to start the install. (It had been a cold weekend!) They were finished by about 3:00 Monday afternoon, and the city inspector (later) said they did a good job. The furnace has worked very well, with very even heating. They gave me a downsized BTU, and explained it was because the efficiency increased from 80% to 96%. One of the other vendors quoted the same existing size and when I asked why (given the comparisons of 3 competing quotes downsizing), he got defensive and challenged the lack of tests. Well, that vendor didn't do any tests either! Welter staff were straightforward, and seemed honest, and everything they said was later validated. They were very prompt, informed me of the state/federal financing (which ran out that morning so no reason they should be that current), and filed the tax rebate registration paperwork for me. Said some customers forgot, so they just decided to start filing for everyone. Sent the Xcel rebate paperwork to me promptly.
Description of Work: Replaced entire furnace, connected to existing ducts (new furnace was smaller) and air conditioner. Created two new direct vents, in and out, needed by upgraded furnace.

+ -1 moreThe salesman was on time (even a little early), inspected our old furnace, and wrote up an estimate for a 100,000 BTU (the size we currently have) 95% efficient new furnace. Even though his estimate was the lowest we got (of three estimates), we ended up going with someone else because he did not do a house evaluation to see if 100,000 was the correct size furnace for our house (thus the B for Quality). He recommended the 100,000 BTU based on square footage. The other two estimates both recommended an 80,000 BTU furnace, which is what we eventually got.
Description of Work: We set up an appointment for an estimate for a new natural gas furnace.

+ -1 moreThe process was perfection from beginning to end. When you hire the best, can the results be anything other than perfect? Nope, not when you hire Welter Heating. They are a family owned business (which is a big plus for us) and they have been around for years (I think around sixty or seventy years). They have been known for years for their honesty and great service and its good to know that in 2012, they are still the best. Thanks for a job very well done!
Description of Work: We had an issue with our condo rental unit and the heating system and we had water everywhere. I called Welter Heating and they came out immediately. I met with George Welter, who by the way is the best saleman I have ever met. George looked at the Condo unit and also brough out one of his heating expert repair men who went over the system. The heating unit is from the 70's and we had planned on replacing the entire heating unit and airconditioning unit which would have cost thousand of dollars. But...George stated that we did not need to do this at this time. All we need was a few minor repair and that the units themselves were in great condition and would more than likely last another ten year. Whats this....an honest salesman in 2012? Who knew, that men like this still existed...that companies like this still existed...companies that are honest and provide you with the best service possible. Well I am pleased to announce that one does exist and the are called Welter Heating. George could have easly informed me that I needed a new $5,000 heating and cooling system, but he didn't. He was completely honest and told me exactly what I needed and saved me thousands of dollars. I wonder if I would have called another heating company if I would have had the same result? Well we will never know, because we will "only" be using Welter heating for all our future needs. As will everyone of our family and friends. We you find the best, you do not need to look any further. Thanks George and Welter Heating for being honest and hard working and for really caring about your customers and putting their best interest first. You are the best of the best and we cannot thank you enough!

(1) Thermostat-The technician quickly figured out that the thermostat was not sending a signal, and replaced with a new thermostat (I could have done this myself later by going and buying one myself, but it was good to have him install it while he was there and ensure that it was working). (2) VanEE - Technician quickly verified the problem was the blower motor. Had to order a new one. Arrived quicker than expected, he was back the next day and replaced it. We have had service help from this technician before, and both times he did excellent work-prompt, courteous and got the job done quickly. (Yes, our furnace is getting old... ;-)
Description of Work: Two problems: (1) Furnace went completely dead-turned out to be a faulty thermostat. (2) Blower motor on VanEE air exchanger was burned out.
