We had leaking behind the bathtub, which was coming from the faucet. We were told that the faucet was no long usable, that we would need a new faucet that was up to code, blah, blah, blah, and that it would cost over $600 total to fix it. We didn't like that answer - we didn't believe there was such a necessity to replace the faucet at this time. So we called a different company that told us the problem was easily fixed. The faucet works fine now. I have used Randy Lane a number of times in the past and never felt like I was getting an inflated diagnosis to the problem and that they have done good work, so I was disappointed that this happened. Nevertheless, I will think twice about using them again now.
Description of Work: We asked Randy Lane & Sons to look at a leaking faucet in our bathtub. They diagnosed the problem, gave an estimate, and scheduled a time to come back to fix it. We cancelled before they came back.

Poor water pressure and a few leaks developing in our old galvanized pipes. Brian came out and talked me through some options and costs. Provided a written estimate after walking through the house in about 5 minutes time. Very competitive price when compared with 2 other estimates. Work was completed as agreed to and was satisfactorily done.
Description of Work: Replaced old galvanized pipe with new copper and plastic in basement and first floor. New frost-free sealcocks, new basement utility sink and new water heater. Also reset a toilet.

It went smoothly - they were there on time, and got the work done quickly. When the pilot light on my boiler didn't stay lit, they came back out and took care of it for me.
Description of Work: Donnie and Travis put in a new sewer access on my sewer line in the basement, made a connection between my sink and sewer line up to code, installed a new gas line for my gas dryer, a new dryer vent and hooked up my washing mashine. The price was a bit higher than I had expected, but they did high-quality work.

This report actually covers two visits. We had the two toilets installed in November 2009 and the rest of the stuff in March 2010. Based on reports on Randy Lane & Sons on Angie's List, we specifically chose Donnie to install our toilets. On the first visit for the toilet installation Donnie came with an apprentice plumber. The apprentice plumber installed the basement toilet and Donnie installed the main bathroom toilet. Both original toilets had not been installed properly--so both took extra time to prep before the new toilets could be installed. They were able to accommodate us during the basement toilet install while we finished putting down some tile squares in the area that the original toilet was before the new one was installed. Donnie was great. When there were any installation considerations, he would let us know what the options were. He was friendly, considerate, came in the time frame they said he would come, and also called when he was about 15 minutes out. He mentioned that he works mainly in older homes so he was able to quickly resolve any problems without much hesitation. During his first visit we showed him what we wanted him to do on his next visit. We followed that up with an email showing him pictures of the items that we were going to purchase. He reviewed them and promptly got back to us. That was very valuable to us as he told us what wouldn't work--that saved us money and not having the hassle of returning something.
Description of Work: Had two toilets replaced, kitchen faucet and soap dispenser, bathroom shower fixtures, spout and handles, and shut-offs. (The $1,440 price included the cost of one of the toilets and other materials, i.e., wax seals, copper pipe, supply lines, ball valves, solder, caulking, etc. Total labor for installation of everything was $982.)

They came out on a holiday so it was horrendously expensive but it went fine. When we had some other work that needed to get done, they worked with us to get it done more cost effectively; they gave us a break with the trip charge coming back out. With the faucet, they gave us a lot of different options on price so we could decide how much we wanted to spend.

We called them and they came out within a few days. Donnie was a service person on time. He checked out the gasket for the garbage disposal and said that to remove it the whole disposal had to be taken apart. The gasket usually goes out when the unit goes out. We don't use it that much so we decided to wait until it went out. He found out that the leak from the shower head was from the handle and it needed a gasket. He replaced that and them replaced the toilet guts, these were the original and over 20 years old. We were being proactive rather than reactive on this issue.
Description of Work: We had a leak in the shower, needed new insides for the toilet and a new gasket for the garbage disposal.

We chose them because they were one of the highest rated plumbing companies on Angie?s List. We got a bid from them very quickly. They were excellent. They were amenable to working with our irregular work schedules. Their bids seemed very fair for the work that needed to be done because we had done a bit of comparison shopping. There was one person who was pretty much here for one day. He had a couple of issues initially like problems with the drain pipe from the bathtub and a couple of other things. He was really good about taking care of it and not adding significantly to the bill at all. He added it all to the original bid.

Al called us well ahead of our appointment and told us he might be a little late because of the snowstorm, which is much better than those other technicians or contractors who often call you hours after your scheduled time...only to tell you the obvious...that they are running late... Everything went extremely well, considering the snowstorm...and that I incorrectly told them that I only needed a shower head replaced (rather than the entire set-up). Once we realized my mistake, Al adjusted his schedule accordingly, and was able to install a new shower valve and head without any delay. He performed quality work, and the shower set-up works and looks great. Would definitely use this company again.

It went great. He was on time--and it was the morning after Thanksgiving! He had to come back to do one more repair--initially we thought the only thing wrong with the toilet was the water line, but another connector also needed replacing. He came back the same day, just a few hours later, replaced the part, and only charged us for the part, not the labor. The dispatcher was great getting back in contact with him quickly and letting us know when he was able to return.

We thought we had a leaking shower drain. The plumber from Randy Lane took about 5 minutes to figure out that it was the toilet, not the shower drain, that was leaking into the kitchen ceiling below. We needed to have a heating vent temporarily removed so that they could reach the pipes. Then they returned and replaced the seal and a portion of the pipes leading to the toilet. They were timely and highly professional in the work that they completed for us. We would definitely use them again for plumbing problems.

Tried to replace dishwasher myself, but fomer homeowner had questionable work that I didn't want to mess with. Searched for and found Randy Lane & Sons on Angies List. Al was dispatched same day. I explained what I wanted done, and how I wanted it done. He explained how one of my choices was prohibitively costly (for some reason the house supply was plumbed with 3/8" not 1/2" as it is supposed to be.) In the end he found a quarter turn shutoff in 3/8" inch, so he was able to fulfill my reqest anyway. Was charged for 1 hour of work and parts. The work was professional and quick.

This plumber is professional and responsible from beginning to end. They always answer the telephone quickly and call before they arrive. Always arrive on time. Thanks to Randy Lane, it went from a potential $700 problem, to a potential $150 problem and ended up only costing what we paid Roto Rooter for doing nothing. Jeff's SOS Drain Cleaning didn't charge us, because it was referred from Randy Lane. I think Jeff's company deserves something, so they will be getting a great review too. The bottom line is if you have any plumbing needs at all, call Randy Lane and Sons. They proved their honesty 100 times over. Even if they come in higher in comparison bids, I would still choose them.
Description of Work: Roto Rooter told me I probably had a crack in the ABS pipe for my basement toilet. That meant breaking up concrete and replacing it. I called Randy Lane and Sons and Randy himself came out to take a look the same day. He took one look down the pipe and said it wasn't a crack or separation. He then got on the phone to Jeff's SOS Drain Cleaning and asked the owner Jeff if he would send someone out with a camera to look inside the pipe at no cost. Jeff agreed. After that Randy left and said to call him if the pipe indeed needed to be replaced. It turns out he was 100% correct. The camera showed that there wasn't any cracks, separations or even a clog. What it did show was poor workmanship by the people who installed the piping in the first place which causes the toilets to interfear with each other if the conditions are just so.

the two man crew did their job competently. They ran a new service line pipe from the utility room of my basement above the ceiling of a finished room, then outside through the foundation. I had only two small issues. they first is that they didn't clean-up completely, leaving some solder droppings in the basement utility sink and on my driveway. No big deal. The second is that the plastic fitting on the external spigot were tan, while my house is grey. Not good color coordination. When I called them later to ask why they couldn't use grey fittings, they said their supplier only manufactured the fittings in one color. I didn't verify that with the manufacturer, but I would think they would offer more than one color. Overall, Randy Lane & Sons did a competent job for me this time, but not worthy of an "A" rating.
