This has gone horribly wrong! He started on August 24th, obtained permits from the city and performed the framing and HVAC himself and sub contracted the electrical, plumbing and sheet rock. The framing was fine and the sub contractor work was good and it all passed the rough in inspection through the city. Our contract required the job to be complete by 9/30/2011. Patrick's work started to deteriorate the closer we got to September 30. My opinion is that he tried to slop it together to get it done hoping I would not say anything but I did not let that happen. I approached him about the painting on the walls where he did not use the right paint (we wanted satin, he used flat) and the walls were not prepped correctly so they felt like 60 grit sand paper. Patrick also attempted to install tile on the floor in the bathroom but did not use spacers between the tiles so some of the tiles were touching and others were so far apart, I can get my index finger tip between them. Many of them are not even level with each other. We walked through the basement and he agreed to correct the walls and repaint them and also agreed that the tile was incorrectly installed and he would rip them out and reinstall them. He offered me a refund of $300 to leave the tiles on the floor. I told him no way, I don't want a refund because I want it done correctly. He tried to take them one at a time with a hammer and chisel and gave up saying he needed additional equipment. Ever since I brought these concerns to his attention, he has not come back to our home since 10/11/2011, will not return my phone calls and did not answer the door when I went to his home. To make matters worse, I have contacted his sub contractors and they have conformed he has not paid them or not paid them in full. This is terrible because they can put a mechanic's lien on my home if they are not paid. I have not paid him the full amount but I have paid more than I should have because of the horrible work he has done and of course, the work he is not coming back to perform. He has not delivered any doors, trim or anything else per the contract. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, the MN Dept of Labor and Industry and the MN Attorney Generals office.
