The members door had been partially stripped by another painter. There was much paint and stripper residue to be removed and smoothed. There were also many areas of chipped paint where no stripper had been applied. These areas had to be sanded, filled, and re-sanded. We then primed the surfaces and applied 2 coats of paint. It took numerous trips to complete the project. Fortunately, our foreman did not live far away! The door did turn out beautifully. Thank you for using us!

We used Painting by Jerry Wind to paint our two story, 80 + year old colonial home. They were expensive but the crew members did a tremendous job with so much attention to detail. Nate (the carpenter) did an excellent job replacing multiple rotted pieced of siding, a few windowsills, and the headers and jambs (sp?) of all our outside windows. They look new. Marlin was the crew leader on the prep, scraping, priming and painting of the house and he and the other two members, Abraham and Jose did a phenomenal job. They heat treated a number of areas on our house (windowsills, and decorative piece) to remove 80+ years of paint that was cracked and ratty looking. They scrapped and cleaned the house before priming it and painting it (following specific procedures as we had lead paint on our home). They showed up everyday exactly at 7:30 AM and went through what they would be doing that day so we always knew exactly where we were on the timeline. They were great about answering any questions, and daily asked if there was anything we had concerns about. They did not take any shortcuts and they treated our home like it was their own. The house looks terrific and we are thrilled with the outcome. I would highly recommend their work.

Member, thank you for your wonderful comments! I think what you said describes not only the job and the skill sets of the crew, but the customer service that we strive to deliver. We are very grateful that we have crew members who can handle all of the diverse surface preparation skills you mentioned: carpentry, removing paint with heat, thorough service preparation, safe handling of lead based paint, and attention to detail. And, as you discovered, they're a fun bunch of guys to have around! Our jobs may seem expensive on the front end but prorated over time they are a real bargain. Our jobs typically last 12 to 15 years, many of our competitor’s jobs are breaking down into 2 to 6 years. Enjoy your newly redone home for years to come!

Painting by Jerry Wind is extremely professional, prompt to respond and come out to give an estimate, and I'm sure they do absolutely quality work. However, their price was 3X higher than the lowest bid I got and 2X higher than the one I went with. I just couldn't justify the high price.
Description of Work: We got an estimate for painting a master bedroom and walk in closet and also for removing the popcorn ceiling.

Member, there are two major things that affect price in our industry. Number 1: Company structure. Some companies use subcontractors or are a family business with multiple owners and no employees. Frequently these companies do not carry Workmen's Compensation leaving the homeowner at risk in case of injury. Our company has true employees who are covered with a liability insurance, workers comp, and unemployment. Number 2: specifications. We try to be thorough in our preparation, application processes, and clean up. With the removing of texture for instance, we assume the need for repairing drywall tape and then skimming two coats of joint compound over the ceiling for a smooth plaster like finish. I’m not sure who you hired or what they did but I hope you got a great job!

They arrived on time and walked thru the area that needed work, then they took the time to explain how the work would be done, how long it would take and the overall cost. They were one of the first contractors to make estimates, when we getting ready to start the project so they gave us some good insight into what needed to be done and idea of the cost. We ended up going with another contractor due to our budget constraint, but their insight definitely assist us with our house project.

Using people experienced in the industry allows you to tap into resources that have seen problems similar to yours and offer solutions that really work. We always try to keep in mind the long-haul, "How well will this solution hold up overtime?" We're constantly looking for products and methods that achieve better long term results. The cabinets came out beautifully, the cost was a bit higher than we had hoped but there was a lot of work to do to prep the cabinets for painting. It took a little longer than anticipated, but filling the grain and painting was a fairly long process and we needed a fair amount of small items to be done such as drilling the new holes, installing hinges/handles/magnetic catches, sanding down doors that didn't close well, etc. This saved us from needing to reface or replace, both which would have had inferior product installed at a higher price. The wall with the wallpaper covered paneling came out well and is nearly unidentifiable as having a paper liner/paneling underneath.
Description of Work: Cleaned/prepped kitchen oak cabinets (original to home built in 1966), used product to fill oak grain, removed contact paper inside all drawers and on all shelves, primed, painted white, filled holes from previous handles, installed new hardware. Removed wallpaper leaving liner paper over paneling (unknown before removal that room had paneling) and primed/prepped for painting. Removed tile backsplash on wall above range.

Member thank you for your great comments! The grain filling process worked well but definitely took some time. We enjoyed delivering high-quality and functional, like-new cabinets for your ongoing use. Enjoy them! We were happy that painting over the lining paperwork worked well, otherwise there would have been a lot of unexpected expense removing or filling the paneling that was underneath. We were glad that we were able to get everything done by your move-in date. We hope you're getting settled into your new home.

Member you know we planned to prepare your house and apply coatings to it to achieve a 12 to 15 year life expectancy. Any people think oh they're going to wash scrape, prime, and paint so all jobs are equal. The type and thoroughness of preparation, product selection, and application methods are all critical. I see many of my competitor’s jobs that are failing in 2 to 6 years. Anyone paying $10,000 for a paint project doesn't want to do it again in 2 to 6 years. Of course if you are not staying in your house people usually prefer to invest conservatively.

Member, we would have enjoyed working with you. Prices vary a lot because of two things: company structure, true employees with work comp coverage, all taxes paid including unemployment which we have, and sub contractor groups who usually don't have work comp, leaving you at risk. The other big item is specifications. Painting proposals tend to sound the same, but can be greatly different, e.g. sanding could mean hitting bare areas with sandpaper by hand or totally removing old coats with mechanical sanders down to new bare wood or washing could mean a quick power wash or a hand scrub with cleaner and rinse using minimal high pressure to prevent infiltration of water into the home. Obviously the time and labor in each varies greatly. We are trying to build 11-15 year paint jobs. We,unfortunately, see many failures in the 2-6 year time frame. We appreciate you having us out and I hope your painting experience went well and lasts a long time.

An incredible, professional crew. They were faced with 33 days of extremely unpredictable weather (rotten Spring here in St. Paul with almost constant rain), but they were quick to seize the sporadic opportunities to do very detailed work. The lead paint abatement was done very carefully, and they took care with every minor and major detail of sanding, priming, and painting the house. It looks absolutely beautiful.

Thank you for your comments! Your house and the weather both presented difficult challenges. After thorough scraping and washing, the house had to sit and dry out, but it rained almost every day and the dew point remained high on most days. One particular older coat continued to lift even after the thorough scraping when exposed to the high moisture levels. We all agreed to do an extra step to completely remove this poorly bonded coat so our new paint had a solid substrate for adhesion. When we got a few low humidity days we were finally able to prime, then caulk and paint. It did turn out well!

Member, I see wide discrepancies in the cost of painting services. Some companies do not have true employees who have work comp coverage, liability insurance, and all taxes and unemployment paid by the company as we do.They are independent business owners that might join up with other independent contractors for larger jobs. They do not carry worker's compensation and rarely pay unemployment. They offer lower costs, but sometimes at the buyer's risk, if an accident were to occur. The other difference can be specifications: We try to be thorough, meet or exceed manufacturer's specifications, use top quality products, and try to produce the best long term results. Most paint jobs look good when done, but the true test is 3-10 years later, when weathering or some building movement has occurred. We try to provide great value to our clients and we do stand behind our work.

The 2-man crew did a very thorough and careful job of taping, padding and plastic-covering all the furniture and premium cedar walls abutting the walls to be painted. They were punctual and polite. They were careful and neat when painting and did not play the radio! I loved the fact that they concentrated on their job....not listened to music or had incessant conversation with one another!! I also liked Ron who was the front man....gave the estimate, previewed the job with me and the lead man, and checked in on them midway through the job and also at the end. Ron was very knowledgeable as well as responsive to my questions and concerns. Upon completion of the job, we noticed that there were a couple of seams that need to be retouched....and Ron assured me that they will get those done to my satisfaction. All in all, I am so pleased at how well this entire experience went! I had been avoiding having the painting done for years as I dreaded the mess and inconvenience. Painting by Jerry Wind company took the stress out of this experience!

Thank you for your comments concerning our thoroughness and knowledge of lead based paint. If I recall your house had shake siding, which necessitates running a scraper down every groove to break loose old deteriorated paint, a labor intensive process. Also, our estimates are for 10-15 year paint jobs, so on a pro-rated basis our pricing is very competitive.

Great. Were on time and always extremely courteous. Protected all floors and other surfaces, always cleaned up after themselves. The whole process took a few weeks. They went the extra mile several times, such as cleaning old dried on paint from woodwork (not their mistakes, but made the finished product more beautiful) and dealing with uneven picture rails at ceiling, etc. The house looked HGTV ready in time for our open house. We sold the house after only five days on the market, which says a lot.

It was helpful to get an approval for replacing soft, deteriorated plaster with sheet rock. This was a great experience. There was a lot of work because the house is old (built in 1916) and there were many cracks. The workers were very efficient, very careful, cleaned up well and despite much sanding in order for the walls to be smooth, they left very little sanding dust. I'm not sure how they did that, but it was great to have far less clean-up than I had expected. They were pleasant, kept me informed as to what they were doing and when and overall did a great job!

Beginning with the estimator Ron Wolfe who was personable, patient and thorough in his explaining what work needed to be done to Juan, the gifted painter this was the best experience with any workmen I have had in over 30 years. Juan was so trustworthy and reliable as well as pleasant and easy going. A lot of calk was needed on pillars and Juan be made the pillars look better than new. He is is a creative genius. Ron was always there asking if everything was going okay, did we look it over etc. and was extremely thorough in making sure the work was flawless and met his very high standards. The work they did was very good. They were a little more expensive that I expected and I ended up paying them some extra to finish the job.

It was fun working for because I had met her before through a mutual friend. The member had a bathroom that needed a lot of repair, so the job was more than 2 days and of course needed materials, which were not included with the coupon. There was one area that she, nor I, were 100% happy with which became evident when re-installing a light fixture. We redid that wall and she seemed quite satisfied. Thanks again! It was great to see you!

Awful experience. A job that was suppose to take 4 days maxium took 10 days. The price was way too high for the quality of work. I was surprised and certainly declined with an additional estimate that we requested for painting our small kitchen, living room, entry and hall: $2,300. Ouch! And they were already at our house doing other work. The foreman, Juan, was difficult to understand, but spoke rather very well to fellow worker. It was a nightmare. The last straw was the foreman asking me where he put his paint water. He said he could put in rocks under deck, dig hole, or down sink. I asked him what he normally does or what the EPA would want him to do. We for sure got the "D" crew. Quality of work of knockdown was poor-not uniform with many smooth pathes and had to be redone. We had to ask them to leave because we couldn't believe the incompetence.
