The quote process went fine. We just didn't do the project for money reasons.
Description of Work: I got a quote from Organic Bob but we decided not to do the project. It was for re-seeding of the front lawn.

We wanted our urban yard transformed from a wilderness mess to a manageable orchard of fruit trees and plants. We also wanted the muddy areas either to be wood chip or low-maintenance lawn with a playground area for the children. We also wanted a yard that required very little potable water (the lawn doesn't require watering and the grass grows well in the shady areas of our yard) and we wanted a low maintenance yard. Everything went very well. Bob was very flexible in working with us after the original bid. The original bid was too high for us so we determined together what we could self-perform (tree felling, edging, wood chipping, grass seed planting and planting of various trees and plants) while keeping Bob as the full designer of the yard. Bob was very knowledgeable about ways to do this with little impact on the environment and he helped us know what were bad and good plants to be removed. Bob's crew worked tirelessly on the many items and really complemented what we could do with what would have been virtually impossible for us to self-perform. Now our yard looks great! A year later our lawn is fully grown out, we have a playground area, and we have a start to the orchard that will be producing fruit for years to come with apples, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, plums, mulberries, rhubarb, tomatoes, & honeyberries.
Description of Work: Yard Preparation (removing stumps, invasive plant removal, regrading of yard); Oat planting in preparation for grass seed planing later in the fall; Plant (both invasive and non-invasive) identification; Yard planning for orchard and lawn areas; Blueberry plant hole digging (preparation for pine needle/layering with 10'diameter x 4'deep pit); Rain Barrel level concrete slurry pads created (for three 250 gallon rain barrels); Yard landscaping master plan layout; LEED for Homes landscaping design and identification.

Wonderful! When Bob was removing the dirt and while digging the drain swale, he uncovered an existing asphalt ditch. He and his crew hand dug it out. This was the second time we had this area worked on and the previous company never found the ditch. We ended up changing a bit from our original plan due to this ditch. Bob did a great job. We are thrilled with the results and are looking forward to seeing the no-mow fescue in the spring. He was very accommodating and worked with us around an invisible fence installation. He's a true professional who has a great vision. He really looked at our conditions and we believe he came up with the solution that fit us and our conditions best. Good value for the price. We are already looking forward to working with him on some other projects in the spring.
Description of Work: Remove fill dirt that was dumped (by another company) between the road and our new retaining walls. Regrade slope, remove dirt (and other fill), dig drain swale, line with fabric and drain tile, pea gravel, place erosion blanket and seed.

I had to pay for materials. For example, he had me go rent a tamper at my expense when he should have taken care of that matter entirely himself. A full bag of stones was dropped & opened and contaminated an area of lime rock & also killed existing grass. He did not try to do anything to rectify that or replace the bag. I felt that he made me his errand girl ridiculously & I wish I had had more backbone, especially as there continued to be more messes & mishaps. He miscalculated cost of materials & went over budget. Great personality & real eager to do the job. Six of the stones broke - that's more than I expected. I ran many errands during the job, & I shouldn't have had to. He only wanted to allow one day for the job, which is not adequate. I've learned that some other landscapers would hand-select the stone for their customers. Overall it looks fine, but there was less professionalism than I would've liked. I would not use him again. I definitely got less than what I paid for.
Description of Work: Installed a small stone patio.

Excellent experience. Bob was very thoughtful in his landscape design. He listened to our needs and came up with a plan that fit our life as well as one that was congruent with the style of our house and yard. He was great about keeping things reasonably priced. The work was done in a timely manner. We are very pleased with the results.
Description of Work: Bob landscaped our backyard. This included removal of plants and brush, installing flagstones on a slope, tilling and seeding the yard and mulching the beds.

BOB IS VERY PUNCTUAL AND WILLING TO PROBLEM SOLVE. HE IS ALSO WILLING TO SAVE YOU MONEY WHERE HE CAN. HE SPECIALIZES IN ORGANIC LAWN CARE AND ALSO DOES LANDSCAPING. THE DECK/WALKWAY/DOCK (WE HAVEN'T DECIDED WHAT TO CALL IT) LOOKS LOVELY AND IS WORKING OUT VERY WELL.
Description of Work: AFTER I HAD A NEW GARAGE BUILT, I DECIDED NOT TO REPLACE THE CONCRETE SIDEWALK, BUT HAD BOB BUILD A WALKWAY/DECK. IT HAS A TOP STEP OF 6' X 6' AND A WALKWAY OF 4' X 16' WITH A LATTICE RAIL ON ONE SIDE OF THE TOP STEP. HE ALSO BANKED THE GROUND ALONG THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE, LAID DOWN HEAVY PLASTIC, AND BUILT A SMALL RETAINING WALL WITH ROCKS I HAD. THIS WAS ALL PART OF TRYING TO STOP WATER FROM COMING DOWN INTO OUR BASEMENT OF OUR 80 YEAR OLD HOUSE.

BOB'S A HOOT TO WORK WITH AND I DO MEAN 'WITH', AS HE OFFERED A GENEROUS SWEAT-EQUITY DISCOUNT FOR MY HELP. SO I WAS OUT THERE TOO - A GREAT WAY TO LEARN AND STRETCH PROJECT MONEY. AT FIRST, HE CAME OFF A LITTLE UNRELIABLE- SEEMING TO FORGET TERMS/SCHEDULING, SO I WAS A BIT WORRIED. BUT ONCE ON THE JOB, IT WAS VERY CLEAR HE AND HIS CREW HAVE THE HIGHEST STANDARDS FOR WORK/INTEGRITY AND ARE EXTREMELY NICE AND HARD-WORKING. I GET SO MANY COMPLIMENTS ON THE NEW WALL AND LOVE THAT I HELPED BUILD IT! THE COST WAS VERY REASONABLE AND THEY WENT ABOVE & BEYOND (TAKING THE TIME TO GET IT PERFECT, CHANGING THE DESIGN MID-PROJECT, PLUGGING A CRITTER HOLE NEAR MY FOUNDATION, ETC.) AND WHEN IT WASN'T COMPLETED WHEN EXPECTED (THE EXISTING WALL HAD BEEN SURPRISINGLY HARD TO REMOVE), BOB CAME BACK ON HIS OWN ON A SATURDAY TO FINISH UP WITHOUT UPPING THE PRICE. I THINK THE BEST PART OF ANGIE'S LIST IS LETTING PEOPLE IN ON 'SECRET' FINDS LIKE THIS. HOPE HE GETS THE ADDITIONAL BUSINESS HE DESERVES.
Description of Work: REMOVED AN APPROXIMATELY 15 FOOT TALL APPLE TREE, INCLUDING STUMP, AS WELL AS SOME DEAD BUSHES, PAVING STONES, AND ROTTEN TIMBERS AROUND YARD COMPRISING AN EXISTING RETAINING WALL. DESIGNED AND INSTALLED NEW STONE RETAINING WALL, GRADED AREA, LAID SOD AND MULCH.
