We are extremely happy about our experience with Orfield Design. We asked 3 contractors for bids on our remodeling half the basement. Not only was Orfield's bid the low one and very nicely detailed, but they were the only contractor expressing optimism and a commitment to meeting a tight deadline of 6 weeks. Laura and Amy worked with us from the start to help us figure out details and get what we wanted. Once the work began, Laura coordinated the work well, sometimes getting 3 trades at the site at the same time without folks getting in each others way. The subcontractors did good jobs. The few shortcomings we pointed out along the way were quickly fixed with no hassle. Changes to the plan were credited, or up charged in writing in a very clear and timely manner. We have had numerous compliments on the work that came out of Amy s design. Optimism for timely completion was accomplished we had a nice new place for out-of-town visitors to stay when our new grandson was born!

Orfield's bid was 20% higher than the company we chose to do the work. We have also used the other company in the past and were pleased with their work, so we went with them again. I did appreciate the detail of Orfield's estimate.

Our overall experience was great. Neah at Orfield, as well as Laura and Ron Orfield, could not have been more responsive to our needs. Their subcontractors, especially Cutting Edge Tile & Dinius Plumbing-were great, always did quality work and always cleaned up afterwards. Orfield put a lock box on the door, for easy access and covered our carpets to avoid stains. We even got a gift at the end! How great is that!

We are very pleased with Orfield's work. Ron had excellent ideas for making the space more useful. Much of the work was dirty, but they did a good job of blocking off the dust, and they cleaned up much better than I expected. The workmen were punctual and very pleasant. We had no other estimates, and our job cost more than the estimate because we kept adding things. They might have given us better information concerning price of what we were adding. Although the work was nearly constantly continuing, we didn't always know what kind of work would be done next. I felt I had good relationships with everyone on the team.

It went extremely well. There were some issues on the office side in terms of the invoicing, so I would double check the invoices. Other than that, they did a great job.

They did a very good job. The estimate was accurate, and the workers were professional and courteous. The breaker box was full, so a new one needed to be set up in the basement. The electrician let me know right away. Laura was very helpful in suggesting other options and was responsive to my questions and concerns. Overall, they did an excellent job!

We ultimately selected Orfield after reading positive postings from other Angie's List members. Unfortunately, our experience has not been as positive. Our biggest complaint has been what we perceive to be inadequate project management skills. There have been unexplained delays in ordering main components which increased the project length by approximately 7 weeks into the heart of winter, delaying full completion until spring. When we were not provided with a completion date, we set milestones and a ''drop-dead'' deadline ourselves and Orfield missed them all. As of today, we are still waiting for door hardware to be installed that we specified 3 months ago. It appears that the quality of their structural work is first-rate but the finish work shows a lack of attention to detail. The subs in general did good work but we found Orfield's oversight to be lacking. Ron was not particularly prompt in responding to voice or email. We would give Orfield a B-/C+ overall scor

OVERALL, A GREAT JOB. PROBABLY ON THE PRICEY SIDE, BUT THE WORKMANSHIP IS GOOD. EASY TO TALK TO LAURA, RON, OR THE CARPENTERS OR SUBS THAT DID THE WORK. FAIRLY QUICK TURNAROUND ON CHANGE ORDERS. ONLY ISSUE IS THAT IT TOOK OVER 10 WEEKS TO FINISH THE JOB, WHEN WE WERE ORIGINALLY TOLD IT WOULD TAKE 5-6 WEEKS

VERY PLEASANT, PROMPT, AND COURTEOUS. PRICE WAS WAY TOO HIGH.

RON ORFIELD WAS HELPFUL, LISTENED TO MY IDEAS. HE COULD SUGGEST SOME SOLUTIONS WORKING WITHIN A SMALL SPACE. HE RESPECTED THAT CERTAIN THINGS WERE PARTICULARLY IMPORTANT TO ME, AND WORKED THOSE INTO THE DESIGN. I DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO BUILD, BUT WOULD HAVE GONE WITH THEIR FIRM IF I HAD.

OVERALL, WE ARE QUITE PLEASED WITH THE END RESULTS OF THEIR WORK. ALL OF THE PEOPLE THEY USED WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND GOOD AT WHAT THEY DO. THERE WERE A COUPLE OF GLITCHES ALONG THE WAY THAT WERE TAKEN CARE OF TO OUR SATISFACTION. LAURA DID A GREAT JOB MAKING SURE THINGS WERE COMMUNICATED TO THE RIGHT PEOPLE AND THAT WE WERE HAPPY WITH THE WAY THINGS WERE GOING. WE STAYED IN CLOSE CONTACT THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE PROCESS. IF WE HAVE A MAJOR PROJECT IN THE FUTURE, WE WOULD DEFINITELY CONSIDER USING THEM AGAIN.

WE SENT THEM A DETAILED FLOOR PLAN WITH DIMENSIONS AND DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS OF SOME MAJOR REMODELING THAT WE WANT DONE. WE RECEIVED A CALL BACK FROM LAURA ORFIELD, THE VP OF THE COMPANY. SHE REQUESTED SOME INFORMATION FROM US THAT WE FEEL WAS NONE OF THEIR BUSINESS: HOW MUCH WE HAD BUDGETED FOR THE PROJECT, HOW MANY OTHER COMPANIES WE WERE GETTING BIDS FROM, HOW WE WERE GOING TO DETERMINE WHICH COMPANY WE WENT WITH. I SENT THEM SPECIFIC INFORMATION ON WHAT WE WANTED DONE AND SHE SAID THAT THEY WERE "HIGH END" AND WERE MORE OF A DESIGN AND BUILD KIND ON COMPANY. I GOT THE IMPRESSION THAT THEIR PRICE WOULD BE SO MUCH HIGHER THAN EVERYONE ELSE'S THAT SHE WAS MAKING EXCUSES FOR NOT WANTING THE JOB. THEY TOLD ME THE BID PROCESS I WAS USING WAS COLD, BUT I FEEL THAT THEY ARE ONLY HARMING THEMSELVES BUT NOT WANTING TO WORK ON A JOB THAT IS GOING TO COST UPWARDS OF $200,000. I FEEL THAT BEFORE BEGINNING ANY PROJECT THIS LARGE, IT IS TO MY BENEFIT TO GET AT LEAST 4 OR 5 BIDS.

LAURA WAS FANTASTIC TO WORK WITH. SHE IS PROMPT, KNOWLEDGEABLE, AND PERSONABLE. SHE SENT US A DETAILED PROPOSAL. WE DECIDED TO GO WITH ANOTHER COMPANY FOR COST REASONS. I DON'T THINK THAT ORFIELD'S PROPOSAL WAS OUTRAGEOUS, BUT THEY USE CUSTOM CABINETS AND OTHER MORE EXPENSIVE OPTIONS THAT WE CHOOSE NOT TO AFFORD NOW. I THINK LAURA WOULD HAVE BEEN TERRIFIC TO WORK WITH.

DESIGN PERSON CAME OUT AS AGREED AND WE TALKED ABOUT OUR WANTS. HE EXPLAINED THE PROCESS CLEARLY TO ME AND PROMISED DESIGN WORK BACK. THE DESIGNS ARRIVED AS PROMISED BUT DID NOT MEET OUR EXPECTATION BASED ON THE CONVERSATION WE HAD. NEW DESIGNS WERE DELIVERED WHICH WERE CLOSER BUT STILL NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED. FINALLY DECIDED TO BREAK THE PROJECT INTO SMALLER CHUCKS AND LOOK AT DOING GENERAL CONTRACTING OURSELVES. WE STOPPED THE PROCESS WITH ORFIELD BEFORE WE EVER RECEIVED A FINAL BID.

BOTH RON AND LAURA ORFIELD WORKED WITH ME ON THIS PROJECT, AND BOTH WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND CONSIDERATE. THEY WORK WITH AN EXCELLENT TEAM OF CARPENTERS, ELECTRICIANS, CABINET MAKERS, PAINTERS, ETC. THE QUALITY OF THE WORK PERFORMED IN MY HOME WAS EXCELLENT, AND THE SERVICE I RECEIVED WAS EXCELLENT.

WE WERE IN GOOD HANDS WITH ORFIELD. WE COULD ALWAYS GIVE THEM A CALL AND THEY WERE ALWAYS POLITE. THEY WERE VERY FAST TO RESPOND TO ALL CALLS. THERE WAS NO GUESSING AS TO PRICE, EVERYTHING WAS UP FRONT, EVERYONE KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING AND IF THERE WAS ANY AMBIGUITY THEY ASKED. THE RELATIONSHIP WE HAD WAS ALWAYS FLUID AND WELCOMING AND WE FELT WELCOME TO CONSIDER OR CHANGE DIFFERENT OPTIONS. WE WERE VERY HAPPY WITH ORFIELD DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION AND HAVE THE HARRY & DAVID CHOCOLATE GRAHAM CRACKERS TO PROVE IT.

GREAT TO WORK WITH; PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS.

WE HAVE USED ORFIELD FOR TWO OTHER PROJECTS AND HAVE BEEN OVERWHELMINGLY SATISFIED WITH THEIR WORK. ORFIELD DESIGN, FAR SURPASSED OUR EXPECTATIONS.

I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND USING ORFIELD. THEIR WORKMANSHIP WAS EXCELLENT AND THEY USED HIGH QUALITY MATERIALS AND SUB-CONTRACTORS. THEY ALSO FOLLOWED UP ON EVERYTHING FROM THE BEGINNING, (UNLIKE THEIR COMPETITORS THAT I SPOKE WITH) AND WERE VERY EASY TO COMMUNICATE WITH. ORFIELD ALSO DID A GREAT JOB AT KEEPING THE WORK AREA AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE AND MADE SURE EVERYTHING WAS COVERED UP TO THE BEST OF THEIR ABILITY. FINALLY, THEIR PRICING WAS VERY COMPETITIVE!

RON ORFIELD PROVIDED EXCELLENT DESIGN IDEAS AND PROMPT WORK. THEY WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL AND FRIENDLY CONSTRUCTION WORKERS AND PROVIDED A BEAUTIFUL FINISHED PRODUCT.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GENERAL CONTRACTOR AND HAVE PLENTY OF MONEY TO SPEND THIS ONE MIGHT BE THE RIGHT CHOICE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU WANT TO USE THEIR DESIGN EXPERTISE. OTHERWISE YOU ARE PROBABLY BETTER OFF TO HIRE A GOOD CARPENTER WITH A REMODELING LICENSE, DRAW UP YOUR OWN PLANS, HAVE HIM DO THE ROUGH IN INCLUDING ELECTRICAL/PLUMBING/HAVOC SUBBING, AND THEN GENERAL THE FINISH WORK YOURSELF. IN OUR CASE WE GOT THE PROJECT DONE FOR ABOUT 1/2 THE COST (MASTERSUITE IN ATTIC).

THE END PRODUCT IS BEAUTIFULLY DESIGNED AND AESTHETICALLY LOVELY. THIS IS THE SECOND PROJECT WE'VE DONE WITH ORFIELD AND HAVE BEEN VERY PLEASED BOTH TIMES. OF COURSE, THERE HAVE BEEN THE TYPICAL SNAFUS AND INCONVENIENCES BUT NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY.

HE IS REALLY GOOD AT DESIGN CONCEPTS. HIS PRICE IS A LITTLE ON THE HIGH END. WE DID NOT GO WITH HIM BECAUSE OF SCHEDULING CONCERNS.

THE WORK STARTED ON TIME AND WAS COMPLETED ON TIME. THE WORK DONE WAS BEAUTIFUL AND EVERYONE I DEALT WITH FROM THE COMPANY WAS POLITE, HELPFUL, RESPONSIVE AND CAREFUL. I WAS ALSO IMPRESSED WITH THE QUALITY OF THEIR SUB-CONTRACTORS, WHO ALL DID EXCELLENT WORK AND WERE ALSO POLITE, PROMPT AND HELPFUL.

ORFIELD WAS GREAT TO WORK WITH! RON HAD GREAT DESIGN IDEAS & LISTENED TO MY NEEDS. LAURA COORDINATED ALL OF THE SUB-CONTRACTORS VERY WELL, ANSWERED QUESTIONS & GAVE GREAT SUGGESTIONS. ALL OF THE SUB-CONTRACTORS WERE VERY POLITE, PROMPT & OVERALL NICE PEOPLE. I WAS COMFORTABLE GIVING THEM ACCESS TO MY HOUSE. THE BUILT-INS ARE ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS AND THE CRAFTSMANSHIP IS GREAT. THEY ADDRESSED BILLING CONCERNS AND QUESTIONS WELL, AND GAVE CONCESSIONS WHEN JUSTIFIED.
